Data Source Type Not Overwritten When Uploading RDL
Nov 5, 2007
Hello,
I've been working on an application that uploads an RDL to Reporting Services programmatically. I'm having problem with the data source properties for my uploaded report. The datasource for my report is custom datasource. It work s fine if the report still did not exist. But if the report already exist, after I upload the report to Reporting Services, the function will overwrite the RDL but it did not overwrite the Data source type correctly. Other setting like connection string is overwritten correctly.
For example, I already have RDL ABC with Data source type SQL, when I try to overwrite the existing RDL ABC which have Data source type Assembly, it still hold the SQL value for the data source type. But in the RDL itself (I checked in the rdl script in <DataProvider> tag), the value already overwritten to Assembly.
This problem also happen when I try to upload RDL using Report Manager. The Data source type are not overwritten by the action.
What should I do? Why it did not overwrite the datasource type? Maybe I do anything wrong here. I dont know what. Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
The table in SQL has column Availability Decimal (8,8)
Code in c# using sqlbulkcopy trying to insert values like 0.0000, 0.9999, 29.999 into the field Availability
we tried the datatype float , but it is converting values to scientific expressions€¦(eg: 8E-05) and the values displayed in reports are scientifc expressions which is not expected
we need to store values as is

I'm trying to find a way to maintain the data that was UPDATEd in a table from being overwritten.
I used UPDATE in a table to include missing data. However, since I do not have access to the original table from where the data is derived, when I run my query, it knocks out the data in my table that was updated, because it is linked to the orginal table that has the blank fields. A few users do not have an employee email, and this has to be updated with a personal email account for now. Â
My update works fine, but is there a way I can use the statement in my query so that it updates each time it is run to maintain the user email address? This will solve the problem of not having to change the original table that I do not have access to.
if exists (select * test..dbo.Employee)
truncate TABLE
 test.. dbo.Employee
insert into test.. dbo.Employee (EmployeeNumber Â

Hi
I am after some help with the following issue
I have a package that reads a table for a file path of a excel file. This gets passed to a variable and then this file is imported into a staging table for further transformation work. The issue i have is that file 1 may contain data in Column A which is 50 characters long in which case i have to import the excel as a DT_WSTR, do a data conversion to a DT_STR and load to the staging table. However file 2 may contain data in Column which is over 255 characters in which case it would import as a DT_NTEXT which i then transform to a DT_TEXT and then to a DT_STR. I used a fixed file path in the Excel Connection to start with which was for File 1 so the datatype for column 1 is a DT_WSTR. I then changed the excel connection to a filepath variable, put the path of file 2 in my table and called it from my package. It failed as the data exceeding 255 characters in column 1 needed to be a DT_NTEXT. I can change it and it works but if i then run the package using file 1 (less than 255 characters) it fails again as it wants it to be a DT_WSTR.
Is there anyway around this? Am i missing something as i would have thought that by setting it to DT_NTEXT this would cover data under 255 characters as well.
Any help is gratefully aprreciated.

I'm using the XML Source to process a hierarchical set of XML. As such, the XML Source creates keys to maintain the hierarchy. This is very convenient, and keeps me from having to invent my own keys.
The problem is that the datatype of these keys defaults to DT_UI8. Which SQL Server 2005 datatype should I use to store these values in my staging tables? BIGINT corresponds to DT_I8, which can't accept DT_UI8 values.

Hello Friends
During downloading tabel from remote server, I am using follwing code with traking option ON as follows
RDASpotLighter.Pull("TableName" , SelectFromServer ,RemoteConnString,RdaTrackOption.TrackingOn,"ErrorTableName");
And during uploading same table with data, I am using RDA object as follows
RDASpotLighter.Push(TableName, RemoteConnString, RdaBatchOption.BatchingOff);
When I tried to upload uploaded data, RDA throws an exception and removed that data row from main table and insert into Error table. But this behavior is inconsistence like some time I got that exception but some times I don€™t.
Actually the problem is, some times RDA does updating data on server where I excepting insertion should be perform. I eager to know about when RDA does perform INSERT operation AND when does perform UPDATE operation on server data.
Please help to figure out this problem.

Hi
I designed a package in SSIS that loads data from an Excel source into a oledb SQL database table.
The problem I have is that two of the columns that are supposed to be nvarchar type columns sometimes contain numerical strings. These values causes an error when 'Allow Null' is not set and loads as NULL if 'Allow Null' is set.
How can I force these values into the table?
I have a script transformation object in the package with this code:
If IsNumeric(Row.OCCode) Then
Row.ItemCode = CStr(Row.OCCode)
Else
Row.ItemCode = Row.OCCode
End If
ItemCode is of type unicode string and the column in the SQL DB Table it's mapped to is of type nvarchar

Hi,
I can populate a dataTable with type double (C#) of say '1055.01' however when I save these to the CE3.5 database using a float(CE3.5) I lose the decimal portion. The 'offending' code is:
this.court0TableAdapter1.Update(this.mycourtsDataSet1.Court0);
this.mycourtsDataSet1.AcceptChanges();
this.court0TableAdapter1.Fill(this.mycourtsDataSet1.Court0);
This did not happen with VS2005/CE3.01.
I have tried changing all references to decimal (or money in CE3.5) without luck.
I'm beginning to think that string may be the way to go!!!!!!!
Can someone shed some light on my problem.
Thanks,
Later:
It's necessary to update the datatable adapter as the 3.01 and 3.5 CE are not compatible.

We have some columns in a table where the date is stored as 19980101 (YYYYMMDD). The data type for this column is NUMBER(8) in Oracle.
I need to copy rows from Oracle to SQL Server using SSIS. I used the Data Conversion transformation editor to change it to DT_DATE, but the rows are not being inserted to the destination.
On Error, If I fail the component, then the error is :
There was an error with input column "ORDER_DATE_CONV" (1191) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (29). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".

In MSDE 2000 no action can be performed on a database while it's attached andor when the service is running but in Express 2005 there are no such protections. The file can be copied, renamed, deleted all while the database is attached and the service is running. Is there a way to make Express act like MSDE 2000 in reguard to accessing the active files?
Thanks,

Does anyone know how to upload (bulk) data from a client (written in Excel VBA) to a remote SQL2000 database? Of coarse I tried "INSERT INTO" and rst.addnew but I noticed this is much, much slower as downloading from the same remote database.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have found a problem with my SSIS package. The package takes a Excel File using the Excel Source/Excel connection manager objects. There's a Data Conversion Object which sets all the fields to be DT_STR and then I import the data into a Holding table using a OLEDB Destination Object.
My Excel file contains a list of Code/Description pairs. The problem I have is that I can have data such as the following
CODE
A101
A102
A103
12
1.2i
What seems to be happening is that when the data is imported into the holding table and the first rows are Alphanumeric then the fields where there's a code such as 12 get converted to NULL for some reason. If all the codes are the same type (either Alphanumeric or numericit doesn't matter, as long as they are all the same) the import works perfectly well.
I need to be able to import all of these codes without SSIS converting some to NULL. Has anyone come across this problem before? If so, is there something I am doing wrong or a workaround?
Many thanks in advance
Rob

Need to change the datatype of existing column which has huge data.
I'm performing below steps
1. Create new column with correct datatype in the same table
2. copy data into new column
3. drop indexes on column
4. <<<>>>
now the existing column also has many SP dependent and I do not wish to drop them.
5. rename existing column to xxx
6. rename new column to correct column
7. drop old column
8. make required indexes

2. LTTEST_MSCRM (Just Created to practice something)
I have take the database back of LT_MSCRM from Testing server and want to restore it on LTTEST_MSCRM in Dev. Its failing because of the following error.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL11.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATALT_MSCRM.mdf' cannot be overwritten. Â It is being used by database 'LT_MSCRM'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)

Hi,
I needed to recreate/publish a DDL and data file(of a database) that was produced using Database Publishing Wizard. The size of the file is 4G. I receive the following error when I try to open it up in the new query window of sql server 2005 (sp2)for execution.
"The operation could not be completed. Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."
I know my server has 829G of free storage space available. i receive no errors when I open up a smaller file also created by database publishing wizard.
What possibly is causing this?
Thanks in advance

Hi
In this code how can I create a new data source and new data source view and model and structure that it run dynamic.
In this code I have a lot of errors, that they are about server and database don€™t have in current code,
In this code, first I should definition server or no?
Database dbNew = new Database (databaseName,
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID(databaseName, typeof(Database)));
srv.Databases.Add(dbNew);
dbNew.Update(true);
***********************************************************
How can I create data source and data source view and model and structure?
Please say code of that, and guide me.
databasename and srv is unknown.
Do I add other reference with analysis services?
Please explain about these codes:
************************************************************************
1)
RelationalDataSource dsNew = new RelationalDataSource(
datasourceName,
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID(
datasourceName,
typeof(RelationalDataSource)));
db.DataSources.Add(dsNew);
dsNew.ConnectionString = connectionString;
dsNew.Update();
2)
RelationalDataSourceView rdsv;
rdsv = db.DataSourceViews.Add(
datasourceviewName,
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID(
datasourceviewName,
typeof(RelationalDataSourceView)));
rdsv.DataSourceID = ds.ID
***************************************************************
3)
OleDbConnection cn = new OleDbConnection(ds.ConnectionString);
OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(
"SELECT * FROM [" + tableName + "] WHERE 0=1", cn);
OleDbDataAdapter ad = new OleDbDataAdapter(cmd);
DataSet dss = new DataSet();
ad.FillSchema(dss, SchemaType.Source);
*************************************************************
4)
// Make sure we have the name we thought
dss.Tables[0].TableName = tableName;
// Clone here - the original DataTable already belongs to a DataSet
rdsv.Schema.Tables.Add(dss.Tables[tableName].Clone());
rdsv.Update();
5)
MiningStructure ms = db.MiningStructures.Add(miningstructureName, Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID(miningstructureName,
typeof(MiningStructure)));
ms.Source = new DataSourceViewBinding(dsv.ID);
ms.CaseTableName = "Customer";
Add columns:
ScalarMiningStructureColumn smsc;
// From table "Customer" we will add a couple of columns
// CustomerID - key
smsc = new ScalarMiningStructureColumn("Customer ID",
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID("Customer ID", typeof(ScalarMiningStructureColumn)));
smsc.IsKey = true;
smsc.Content = "Key";
smsc.KeyColumns.Add("Customer", "customer_id", OleDbType.Integer);
ms.Columns.Add(smsc);
*******************************************
6)
MiningModel mm = ms.MiningModels.Add(miningmodelName,
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID(miningmodelName,
typeof(MiningModel)));
mm.Algorithm = "Microsoft_Decision_Trees";
mm.Parameters.Add("COMPLEXITY_PENALTY", 0.3);
MiningModelColumn mc = new MiningModelColumn("Customer ID",
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID("CustomerID",
typeof(MiningModelColumn)));
mc.SourceColumnID = ms.Columns["Customer ID"].ID;
mc.Usage = "Key";
mm.Columns.Add(mc);
mm.Update();
Please exactly say, whatever I want
Thanks a lot for your answer
Please don€™t move this question because I don€™t know where I should write this.

I have set up a new connection as a connection from data source, but I cannot see how to use this connection to create my Data Flow Source. I have tried using an OLE DB connection, but this is painfully slow! The process of loading 10,000 rows takes 14 - 15 minutes. The same process in Access using SQL on a linked table via DSN takes 45 seconds.
Have I missed something in my set up of the OLE DB source / connection? Will a DSN source be faster?
Thanks in advance
