Losing Config File Between Child Packages And *$##@!- Passwords!
Feb 5, 2007I have a parent package that uses Execute Package Task against three child packages. They are all setup to use the same configuration file, and the packages are all located in the same folder. Purpose of the configuation is to use the same connection strings for each child package.
I removed the path from the config. file specification to facilitate deployment. During debugging, the child packages cannot find the config file when they are run via the parent unless the full path is specified. If run standalone, a child package can find the config. file without the path. As I said, all dtsx filaes and the config file is in the same folder.
Also, the password-removal issue is killing me in development. Everytime I touch the config. file, it removes the password from the connection string. I have "protection level" set to "don't save sensitive" - I'd appreciate help with this too.

May 2, 2001I have a pgp file requiring a password that is emailed to me. Is it possible to set up a DTS package that will open the file (using the password), and insert the data into a table, file, etc.

I was trying to configure my package. I have a Oracle 10g DB as source. I used "Oracle provider for OLE Db" as provider in connection manager. I entered user name and password.
When I set my package protection level to : DontSaveSensitive and executed the package
it gives me this error:
[Connection manager "WDEV.wuser1"] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "OraOLEDB" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "ORA-01005: null password given; logon denied".
When i go back to connection manager I see the blank password. I retype it but again when I execute I get the above error.
I configured the package with same setting and in the config file I mentioned the passwords and all details but again I when I execute the package i get the below error:

Since it was not storing password OR not executing without password I set the Protection Level to : "EncryptAllWithPassword"
and excute it I works Great. and runs Awesome. Except I get this Warning

If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. XML Config Files
Mar 30, 2006I am new to SSIS. I created a XML configuration file for my package. I found lots of data on how to do this but I can't find anything on how to get the values back out. I am trying to get them out in a Script file. Any help and maybe examples would be appreciated.

Jul 12, 2006I created a package, created an XML Config file, created a deployment utility and then deployed to server. I scheduled it with agent and I get this error (changed the package name in the error to IMPORT to make it more readable):

So basically its trying to point to a config file on my dev workstation. When I created the deploy utility it created a config file in the Deployment directory with the Manifest and the package. I installed from the deployment directory. When installing it asked where I wanted to install and I left it the default of "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPackagesIMPORT" and if I look in that folder the IMPORT.dtsconfig is there.
Ideas of where I went wrong? I want to make sure I understand the whole configuration file notion correctly as I am starting to roll a bunch of packages with config files out to production. I've done the tutorial and thought it was straightforward and made sense. I can fix it by editing the xml of the package and removing the line pointing to my dev box - just want to know what I am doing wrong :)
Config Files Get Lost...

config file that all packages reference. I also created a config file
for each package that contains the package specific settings. I
checked it all into TFS. I went to a different machine and checked it
all out. Upon loading a package into the IDE I got the following 3
warnings.

Using XML Source In SSIS Vs Script Source To Parse Xml Files.

I am having a huge xml file with nested section.
i also have a xsd file for that xml.
i have a destination table where the data from the xml should be loaded into.
i am using the xml source transformation. But o get all the data i need to use multiple merje joins to get the data in a single row which i can insert into the destination.i was not quiet convinced with using so many joins.
so i tried using the script source transformation where i am using xml objects to get the node and dynamically construction the data row. and the output is then inserted into the destination.
on comparing the two approach the one using the script source is working much faster than the xml source transformation.
i wanted to know is there any limitaion using the script source to parse through xml files.
also i would like to know any other better way of getting the data from xml source without using the joins.

Deployment Of SSIS With Config Files
Jul 12, 2007I went through other threads and links on this subject. Still one thing which concerns me is the config files.
My current folder path is C:Karunakaranfolder1folder2
Under folder2 I have the following files
4 dtsx files
1 .database file
1 .dtproj file
1 .dtproj.user file
1 .sln file
1 .suo file
Config folder ( C:Karunakaranfolder1folder2Config)
common.dtsConfig
oracle.dtsConfig
Based on some of the threads, when I enabled package configuration, I changed the path from
C:Karunakaranfolder1folder2Configcommon.dtsconfig -> common.dtsconfig
Once I did this, when I open the project I get a dozen of warning similar to the one below
Warning loading <package1>.dtsx: Failed to load at least one of the configuration entries for the package. Check configurations entries and previous warnings to see descriptions of which configuration failed.
What am I doing wrong here? If I have to deploy this to another box, what should I do to ensure that nothing breaks once its copied / installed?

SQL 2005 Passwords, Can It Be Configured To Accept Case-insensitive Passwords???
Jul 7, 2006Users were able tolog on to our SQL 2000 servers with their passwords being case-insensitive.
Now with SQL 2005 some users can't logon because SQL 2005 passwords are case-sensitive.
Can SQL 2005 be configured so that passwords are NOT case sensitive???

It appears that the WSE-generated config file (or possibly the app.config file) is not accessible to the .Net code.

Mar 26, 2008I have several SSIS packages, some of which retrieve data from excel files - they work fine from th VS designer until I try to store configurations in a SQL database - then I get the following error:

SQL Jobs Calling SSIS Packages Within MSDB Not Referencing Connection Info In Config Files
Nov 13, 2007I have deployed to production a number of nested packages (parent packages that call child packages) to the SQL msdb via the Save As option rather than building a deployment utility. These packages reference configuration files in a static location off of the c: drive on the production server. In the development environment, when connection changes are made and I run the Reload with Upgrade option the connection manager takes on the new server and user id settings. However, out on the production side I get the following error from the SQL job log:
Cannot load the XML configuration file. The XML configuration file may be malformed or not valid.
As a result the SQL job uses the default connection information which references the development database rather than the production database. I did research the error but found no good solutions. Is there a way to ensure the configuration files are formed correctly and that the packages are correctly referencing the configuration files? We are trying to run the ETL updates via a SQL job.

How Do I Add An ODBC Connection Data Source As A Data Flow Source
Mar 2, 2007I have set up a new connection as a connection from data source, but I cannot see how to use this connection to create my Data Flow Source. I have tried using an OLE DB connection, but this is painfully slow! The process of loading 10,000 rows takes 14 - 15 minutes. The same process in Access using SQL on a linked table via DSN takes 45 seconds.
Have I missed something in my set up of the OLE DB source / connection? Will a DSN source be faster?

I have .txt import files which have huge amounts of columns (this time about 150 - 200). And i need to import 3 of those files. I do have the definitions for columns - but to fill out 200 column definitions in SSIS editor takes u a while. (And suggest types is quite useless due to 1000 sample row limitation - not to mention that if you identify Boolean fields using Y,N - i throws errors on import - so you are most of the times better off defining your own columns).
Fortunately for me - majority of the fields is similar (over 100 fields) - so I can copy and paste the flat file connection and make changes to copied file connection
I guess my wish for future version is that flat file manager could create column definitions from pre-defined format document which would look like:

Create Data Source, Data Source View From XML?

i want to create data source and data source view for data mining, with using C Sharp.
i have create data source and data source view and export to XML file, but when i change to another computer, run those XML file, it return error, when i run statement to create and biuld mining model, what can i change on xml or how to run XML on another computer sucessfully,
and have i build data source and data source view, how to do it.?

Cannot Create A Connection To Data Source 'data Source Name'
Dec 11, 2007Today I was making a few reports.
When I tested the reports in Visual Studio, they worked great: I got the expected result.
But when I deployed the reports to our reportserver the problem started.
When I click on the directory in which my reports are deployed, I got my 4 reports.
Till now everything worked correct.
But when I click on a report to view the results it went wrong.
I got an error:
"Cannot create a connection to data source 'Live'"
(Live is the name of our data source).
We are using the Windows Logons and I am sure that I have all the rights on the server, I gave myself 'sysadmin' rights, so it should work.
I also have tried it with all the roles assigned on my account, but then it still won't work.
When I modify the data source, and set it to another server en database it works.
The datasource 'Live' exists on a x64 MsSQL server, en the other datasource is on a x86 MsSQL server.
Maybe that is the problem?
Can someone tell me what is wrong?

Loading Data Using Ole Db Source With Input Source Being A View
Dec 13, 2007I was trying to load data using SSIS, Data Flow Task, OLE DB Source, source was a view to a OLE DB Destination (SQL Server). This view returns 420,591 rows from Query Analyzer in 21 seconds. Row length is 925. When I try to executed the Data Flow Task from SSIS, I had to stop the process after 30 minutes, because only 2,000 rows had been retrieved. I modified the view to retun top 440, 000 and reran. This time all 420, 591 rows were retrieved and written in 22 seconds. Next, I tried to use a TOP 100 Percent. Again, only 2,000 rows were return after 30 minutes. TempDB is on a separate SAN Raid group with 200 gig free, Databases on a separate drive with 200 gig free. Server has 13 gig of memory and no other processes were executing.
The only way I could populate the table was by using an Execute SQL Task and hard code an Insert into table selecting data from the view (35 seconds) from SSIS.
Have anyone else experience this or a similar issue? Anyone have a solutionexplanation?

I want to skip running the SSIS data flow task when the source file is missing. We have a scheduler that copies the source file to the staging area. This SSIS package runs as SQL server job. So when a SSIS package fails due to missing file the remaining steps in the SQL scheduler won't execute. I want to handle the missing source file condition grace fully. Please advise.

XML Source File Change Issue (same XSD Different XML Files)

i'm facing a small problem with xml file source.
let me explain the scenario!
we have 4 source xml files with same format, each file has around 25k rows of records.

Data Conversion
Conditional Split
OLEDB Destination
its executing fine.
once we change xml file source (second xml file with same xsd),
all other components are showing errors. the error is that
Error 21 Validation error. Staging: DTS.Pipeline: input column "LateRsnCd" (17917) has lineage ID 19380 that was not previously used in the Data Flow task. OnTimeOrderEntry.dtsx 0 0
lineage id has changed it seems, when we are giving new file as xml source. of course xsd is same, but its not taking with names.
to resolve this, if we open that errored task, select all, map using column name--> apply. its getting mapped with the columns as it is in the input.
still the conditional split will show the error.
if we open the conditional flow and give ok, the error has gone, i think some meta dat change has occured in the opening task and giving ok.
what could be the possible probelm and how to fix it?
one more doubt, how can we include xml source in the configuration file? since it doesn't have connection manager, i'm struggling with it for dynamic file selection for xml.
i dont want hard code the source file path (as it reside in the server) in the poperties of the xml source task.
can i have some suggestions please?
