If I understand correctly, SSIS is kinda the "new DTS." And to use it, if I get the gist, I am supposed to open "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio," select a new project, highlight the "Business Intelligence Projects" heading, and then select the "Data Transformation Project" template. But there is just one problem.
That template is missing. It isn't there.
What am I doing wrong?
I need to import data from a CSV file into a db I'm designing. I figured I'd use DTS (which I understand now uses VS in the form of a 'Business Intelligence' (BI) project). My problem is that my only choices for BI projects are:
Analysis Service Project, Import Analysis Services 9.0 Database, Integration Services Project, Report Server Project Wizard, Report Model Project, Report Server Project.
No "Data Transformation Project".
I have SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition. Might it be that DTS is not included in that version?
If I can't use DTS, what choices do I have?
From file, new, project, I did not see Project types.
Where is Report server project template?
How to make it appear?
Does anyone know where I can download a C# CLI Assembly template?
In VS 2005 there are no defaults to create a C# SQL Assembly like the sample HelloWorld. Rather than modifying the Hello World, I'd like to get an original template for creating a new project just like the templates to create a new Windows project.
Thanks,
Chris
Hi,
is it possible to create a report server project template ? This project must have 2 datasources and 1 specific report
I wanted to use the Export Template, but it isn't available. I can only use it in Developpement Studio not in BIDS.
Thanks to help me

Hi,
I have SQL2K5 standard edition and I planned to use the CLR-UDT feature of SQL 2K5. Unfortunately, after following these links:
http://www.pcquest.com/content/enterprise/2005/105041103.asp
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/a8s4s5dz(VS.80).aspx
I found that there is no SQL SERVER project template in my installation of Visual Studio 2005(which came with the SQL2K5 CD). How can I get this particular template? Is there a work around?
I need to create the UDTs on SQL SERVER 2005.
Thanks
i have sql server 2005 dev and bids installed. i want to create a dtsx package, but when i go to File>new>project the template to create an interogation services package is not there. the template for Olap projects is missing also. it used to be present before i upgraded my system to Vista. Could this be a vista issue or do i just need to install a patch or something simple like that?

Hi all,
I am using VS 2003 Enterprise Architect edition and found out that my BI project template is missing. It could be caused by the fact that I had installed SQL Server Reporting Service before I installed VS 2003. Is there anyway I can recover this site template so I can start my RS project? Cheers!
Hi all,
I desperately need to setup the AD-HOC reporting on SQL server 2005.
I think one of the templates that I need is in Business Intelligent Project Templets Reporting Model Template in Visual Studio Templates.
But I do not see it in there.
Can some one please let me know where can I get the Reporting Model Template, or a link to where I can download or how to create it.
Thanks or any help.
Abrahim
Hello,
I've created a Report Model Project that can be used by Report Builder to generate ad-hoc reports. I'm trying to create a connection string in my Report Server Project that points to the Report Model Project data source view.
All I can do is create a regular datasource, which bypasses the metadata contained in the Data Source View.
Basically I want my Report Server Project and my Report Builder reports to leverage the same metadata. Is this possible? If so how do I get the connection string?
Thanks!!

For some reason in a Team Foundation Team Project that has multiple project types (SSRS, SSIS, WebSite, C# Business DLL...), the SSIS project makes itself the startup project to the team project. If I explicitly set another project as the startup project to the team project and then select an SSIS package in the SSIS project in the team project, the SSIS project becomes the startup project automatically.
I am using Visual Studio 2005 SP1.
The code block is embedded into a grid view item template. <ItemTemplate> <% if ((bool)Eval("isNew")) { %> New Post <% } %></ItemTemplate> but as per rule Eval and Bind can be only use bind the data. How would i pull the information from sqldatasource in the template like this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy vendor requires data to be sent in Excel format. Some of my tables have rows over 65,536 so I need to use Excel 2007 (Max of 1,048,576). Right now my data sits in SQL 2000. I am using MS SQL Enterprise Manager 8.0 to prepare the data. Is there some kind of add on or selection I am missing to use DTS to export from SQL to Excel 2007?Thanks in advance.

If you have two synchronous transformation components and the input of the second is connected to the output of the first, does the first transformation process (loop through) all rows in the buffer before outputting these rows to the second transformation? Or does the first transformation output each individual row to the second transormation as soon as it has finished processing it?
Thanks in advance,
Lawrie.
tell me the difference between Audit transformation and rowcount transformation.
Because audit and rowcount transformation will provide the environment variables.
Only difference i am finding is rowcount returns the count of rows its updating .
Apart from these is there any other difference?
Tell me the scenario where i need to use the audit transformation.
We are transferring data between AS/400 and SQL Server 7.0 using DTS. Some of these transfers may need to be very close to real time. It doesn't seem like a continuously running job is the best solution for that.
Do you know any tools or utilities that can help us to move the data?
Thank you,
Anastasia.
i have something like this:

mary chequing 246.00
mary investment 135.00

john chequing 987.00

Hi, newbie here with a simple?(maybe)question.
I have an Access Database that I have imported into SQL Server2000 and that worked great, but now I have to get it into 2005. My question is, How can I get the tables and all info in the tables into an SQL Script so I can run that script on the 2005 server?
The SQL 2000 is on my dev server and I have all the Tools, (Ent Manager, Query Analyzer,etc...) but the 2005 Server is Godaddy's and they only have the basic web interface. I can run Sql files and create databases and tables, but thats about it.
HiI was told that using DTS will allow me to schedule stored procedures to keep an sql database up to date. For example if a user registers but does not activate the registration, his details will be removed by a stored procedure which is scheduled to run every 24 hours. I use to use the global.asax file to fire a update by using a file containing a the date of the last update and then by adding 24 hours to it, it would execute a SP to delete unwanted data.I have tried to install DTS with no success. I am running the followingVisual web studio expressSQL 2005 Express. (From SQLExpr_exe) and I have told it to install all the extra componentsInstalled SQLEXPR_Toolkit.exe with all its optionsInstalled SQLServer2005_DTS.MSI When I go into the sql server using MS SQL Server Management Studio Express. I cannot see the Data transformation services node. I have also just installed server reports which I had no problems installing. Can somebody please help me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have begun using SSIS and I am a little taken aback by the complexity of it especially since I just want to do a simple data transformation such as in DTS.
Are there any tutorials for data transformation for SSIS on the web/this forum and what if I want to do a simple transformation from Access to SQL Server?
I tried transforming data from one server to another using DTS. and then i got an error as below,

I'm running a DTS package on SQL Server. The source is MS Access and thetarget is Oracle. On a "Drop Table" command the process just hangs. There are no foreign keys onthe table. Several tables have already been processed successfully by thistime.I think I've ruled out corruption by dropping and recreating the targetdatabase on Oracle.Any ideas?M Man

I have a lookup transformation that retrieves a key for a certain column of values, in this case, a name. So, I go in to the lookup table with a name and come out with its key. I had it working and then I added new entries to the lookup table for a bunch of new names. Now, for some reason, I am not getting the matches for the new names. But I am still getting the matches for the names that existed before I added the new ones.
I'm wondering if the lookup transformation is using the old set of data and some how not picking up the new names. Do I have to trigger something in the lookup transformation to let it know that the lookup table data has changed?
I have a student table that needs some clean up. My first task is to remove all the periods (.) from the middle name column. Some people have two char middle initials with two periods. Can this be done via a SSIS package (I sure it can, but not how)? I can't think of a simple update statement that would accomplish the same thing.
Any direction would be appreciated.
Hi,
I have been working on some SSIS packages for a while now and today while i was working i was trying to create a new connection and in the process there was an error and it said the BIDS has to be closed and i closed it but later when i open BIDS and try to open my project(.sln) from the file menu to work on the half done package it pops up an error which shows the path to my project location on the first line and next statement on the pop up error box says:
"Make Sure the application for the project type (.dtproj) is installed."
I tried to check some forums in which some suggested to try installing SP1 which i tried but ..i dont know why but the SP1 fails to install (i dont know if its causing problem becoz i already installed SP2 as i had some other problem before for which the cure was to install SP2).
Did anyone here face such a problem before ?
I'd really appreciate if the experts here can tell a cure for this problem.
thanks,
Ravi
I have a Visual Studio 2005 solution which contains a Sql Server Integration Services (SSIS) project.
In this solution I have explicitly set a Web application project as startup project, but whenever I edit a DTS package within the SSIS project, VS automatically sets the SSIS project as startup project and the package I edit as startup object.
Needless to say, this may cause some really unwanted incidents when running the solution - thinking that you're about to run the Web application project (that was explicitly set as startup project), but instead, you run the edited package in the SSIS project.
Is there any way to avoid having the SSIS project automatically setting itself as startup project, any workaround here at all? :)
Thanks.
in order to maintain a deployed project into an Integration Services Catalog I'd like to know if it is possible to import it into a new project inside SSDT.

I have a very small project written in VB.Net 2005 using the SQL Server 2005 SSiS DTSx package.
I took a SQL Server 2000 dts package and using the SQL Server 3005 legacy tools migrated it so I could still use the package withing SQL 2005 until I can build one using BI/SSIS.
Anyway,I added the reference Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS so I could then use the Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime so I can execute the commands:
Dim oApp As New Application
Dim oPkg As New Package
oPkg = oApp.LoadPackage(g_DTSx_Directory & "AOC copy Generic1 CSV to AOC_verify_file_1.dtsx", Nothing)
Dim oResults As DTSExecResult
oResults = oPkg.Execute
Ok. That works fine. Executes without a hitch. So now I try and create a setup project for this and I use the setup wizard.
During the creation of the setup project I get a message that states:
The following files may have dependencies that cannot be determined automatically. Please confirm that all dependencies have been added to the project.
C:windowssystem32msxml6.dll
OK. The dll is part of the reference I mentioned above and I have no idea what other dependencies it may have.
How do I find this out?
Has anyone else created a project like this and experenced the same?
I am on a clean build running WinXP Pro with SP2 - VS2005 with SP1 and the SQL Server 2005 tools.
I've got an SSIS solution file with project deployment model in VS 2013 and would like to deploy that to SSISDB on different environments. All these days I followed the regular way to create a project in SSISDB and deploy it to that. Now want to find out if i can automate this process and so got some questions
1. Can we automate the process of creating a project on SSISDB based on our SSIS project name? This will be like when we do a deployment it should check if the project exists or not on SSISDB based on our SSIS project name, if the project exists we just deploy the packages in the project and if the project does not exists in SSISDB it will create that project and deploy the packages.
2. Can we also automate the process of creating environments? In traditional way we manually create the environment variables under environment tab of SSISDB, but can we make that also as part of deployment? Like when we are releasing to Dev server we look if that particular Dev variable exists on that server, if it exists we just update the existing stuff and if it does not exists we just create it.
