I am working on a .NET project and I would like to save some LOCALIZED content in an SQL 2005 database.
This content might be a string, a number or even a class with its properties values defined so I can retrieve it later.
I will not need search or any complex operation just the following:
1. Add content to the database
2. Remove content from the database by contentId
3. Get content from the database by contentId
Anyway, is this possible?
What SQL 2005 datatype should I use to accomplish this?
Hopefully ur guys can help me. I declare data type as float in price table. So the problem here is, whenever i enter a float number and move to the second row to enter a new number. The first number in the first row will automatically change to integer, without no reason. For example "2.3" will become "25".
In my applications, I often encounter situations where the domain of a type is some set (e.g. Student, Staff etc. for Membership type etc.). A common solution is to assign integral values to each possible value of the set & convert them to corresponding strings programatically when fetching data, or use a Foreign Key into a relation defining each of the unique value.
MySql has a Set Data type. So, this time around, I decided to do the same with Sql Server, and resorted to CLR to create a custom data type, whose domain could only be a collection of predefined strings or other data types.
But, just before deploying the assembly, the performance bug struck me. So, assuming a simple custom data type, like:

I am working on a program in VB 2005 in which i want to store and retrieve GPS coordinates. I am not sure which data type is the best to use to enter Latitude & Longitude numbers and maintain their proper integrity.
Like LAT ( N38 28.025' ) and LONG (W105 52.098' )
The numbers will be entered by the user and that format can be maintained, but how to re-enter & or insert them into the database using the same format is my real question.

I have an Execute SQL Task that runs a simple SELECT query. I have the result set = Full Result Set. The variable is of type Object and the value is System.Oject. After successful completion of the Execute SQL Task, I am doing a Send Mail task. For the Message Source, I want to use this Object. The drop down is only listing variables of type String. Can you not use a variable of type Object in a Send Mail Task? If not, what is the easiest workaround? Thanks!
Im trying to use a .NET IPAddress in my UDT. i create the assembly, but i get this error when i try to create the type in SQL Server:
Type "IPAddress.IPAddressUDTType" is marked for native serialization, but field "address" of type "IPAddress.IPAddressUDTType" is not valid for native serialization.
From what i understand about the IPAddress object in .NET it is serializable. what am i doing wrong
( note, im just doing this for research purposes and not planing to use the UDT)
I have extensively revied both of the design methodologies and I cannot come up with a single clear reason to use one over the other!
Type - Attributes is where you have a table holding the type categories, type, a table holding the type attributes expected and then a table holding the type attribute value:
Now the above sure is flexible in the sence that a type of automobile can be added without affecting the database schema, but was if some attributes do not take a numeric value? How do you handle computations on attributes specific attributes? Why would I use this structure as opposed to the super type - sub type as shown below?
Now, adding new sub types probably isn't very flexible but, now you can specify data types for each attribute instead of using sql_variant, which by the documentation cannot be used in aggregate functions and may render poor result when used with ADO.
Regardless of the method used, alot of back end coding is required for computations, what table to send the attributes, etc...
Can anyone please help me clarify. What method is best and why. So far I am leaning for option 2. More work but seems to be more flexible in the sence of customization of each datatype.
E.G., what if you wanted to specify attributes about the cap that can be supplied to trucks?
I need to get the object type (view, table ...etc) for a synonym base object inside a script. The only place where I see something related to this stored is in column "base_object_name" in sys.synonyms but there I can see only the same with format [database].[user/schema].[name]. After some testing playing with different users without specifying database/schema I think that maybe the object_id must be stored in a another place, my first idea was parent_object_id in sys.synonyms but it isn't stored there.
know if object_id for the base object is stored in any other place ?
Hi, When creating a database in the Management Studio, you get to select the database owner, and should that be usually the Administrator and ASPNET account?Also, what is this Object Types option for? There seem to be only one "Login" option in there, what does that serve as?

I´m exporting an ms-excel file, then I use a lookup transformation to get a field from a SQL Server 2005 table. The Lookup transformation editor, after selecting the table, shows a warning that says:
at least one mapping between a column from available input columns ans a column from available lookup columns must be defined on the columns page.
So I try to make a relationship in the Lookup transformation editor's column tab where I find the Available input columns and the available lookup columns but I get the following error:
The following columns cannot be mapped: [Department, DEP_CLEGALCODE] One or more columns do not have supported data types, or their data types do not match.
The field in SLQ Server is varchar(10) and the input field is a derived column transformation; I have tried different Data Types but I always have the same error.

In Management Studio, under Registered Servers, I double-click a server name (could be sql 2000 or sql 2005 server) and it apperars in "Object Explorer" where I can work with it. I click the "Save All" button in Management Studio, exit Studio, and re-start Studio. When I do, I find that all the servers I placed under "Object Explorer" are now missing and I need to go through the "double-click the registered server" ritual again. And again, and again.
What am I doing wrong here? Why don't the servers "stick" in Object Explorer?

I have an application which runs successfully on a couple of my customer's machines but fails on a third. It seems to fail when opening the database:

Before I got this error I was getting another problem (sorry didn't make a copy of that error's text) that made me think that adodb.dll simply wasn't loaded/registered. I got rid of that error by copying my adodb.dll onto the third machine and running gacutil /i. There is now an entry in winntassemblies for adodb.
Just in case you think it could be an obvious registry problem: when I started getting the current error I thought that maybe the registry needed updating and I merged the following lines into onto the target machine (from my dev machine):
Hi, I have developed a custom server control for .NET Framework 2.0. The server control has a property named BinaryData of type byte[]. I marked this property to be data bindable. Now, I have varbinary(Max) type of field in my SQL Database and I have used SQLDataSource and bound this varbinary(Max) field with the property BinaryData (byte[]) of my control. It is working fine as long as the data value is not NULL. Now, In my control, I have handled the NULL value so that no Exception is thrown. Still, when I bind this property using the SQLDataSource, I get Error "Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System.Byte[]'." I am not sure if I can do anything to stop this erro within my control. If it is not possible from the control, then what is the workaround that I can do in my ASPX page in order to stop this error ? Hi There,This is related to a ms access database but since I use the SqlDataSource control I thought I should post here.I have a project that I was working on with this ms access db and using sql controls, everything was working just finesince one day I started getting "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" messages when I try to designa query or retrieve a schema, nothing works at design time anymore but at runtime everything is perfect, its a lotof work for me now to create columns,schemas and everything manually, I've tried reinstalling visualstudio, ado componentsbut nothing seems to fix it, did this ever happen to any of you guys?any tip is really appreciated thanks a lot
