We have some columns in a table where the date is stored as 19980101 (YYYYMMDD). The data type for this column is NUMBER(8) in Oracle.
I need to copy rows from Oracle to SQL Server using SSIS. I used the Data Conversion transformation editor to change it to DT_DATE, but the rows are not being inserted to the destination.
On Error, If I fail the component, then the error is :
There was an error with input column "ORDER_DATE_CONV" (1191) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (29). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".
OK I migrated a DTS package from MS SQL 2000 to MS SQL 2005 64-bit SSIS. OK so I fixed a problem with a Double Global Variable... Now I am stuck at a connection to Oracle and it returning data... Here is the error message:
[Execute SQL Task] Error: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "Remedy_Count": "Unsupported data type on result set binding 0.".
My SQL Statement is this:
SELECT COUNT(*) AS Expr1 FROM DB.MYTABLE
When I run it from the Query Builder it returned this:
EXPR1 = 2983
Here are some details from the General Page on the Execute SQL Task
ResultSet - Single row ConnectionType - OLE DB Connection - Oracle Provider for OLE DB SQLSourceType - Direct input BypassPrepare - True
In the Result Set I have The following:
Result Name - Variable Name 0 - Remedy_Count
So... what can I do to fix this. I have the Remedy_Count set as a:
EvaluateAsExpression - False Value - 2414 ValueType - Double
I have tried setting the ValueType to Object and other things... Same error... I read some where about how SSIS has issues when Oracle returns a Numeric type data. Can someone help me with this? Anything you all can tell me would be great.
My question is on an appropriate approach to take.
We have an very large company database that supports all of current software in Sql Server. A current requirement is to take data from a Oracle Database that has "agreed upon" tables and to "Translate" that to SQL Server and place them in agreed upon "Temp" tables. Then our other software will know what to do with these temp tables and do their thing.
Upon launching this translator application, it will delete all of those temp tables and do (what I just specified above).
My initial thought was to dump each Oracle table into a DataTable. Then delete any temp tables in our database. Then create the temp tables and begin updating our Sql Server by iterating through the DataTable performing updates?
I have to develop a package to get some data from a 10g Oracle database and load it to a SQL Server 2005 database.
In my design I used Oracle Provider for OledDB as my source provider following Microsoft recommendations found here : http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb332055.aspx
As I have to use a parametrized query against my Oracle database I create a variable with my query that I override at runtime with a script task to update the parameters values.
One of the return column is of numeric datatype.
To handle this known issue with Oracle sources I edited through the advanced editor my Oledb source component to manually correct the precision.
Everything works fine with one of my package.
So I repeat the whole process while designing an other one with the same purposes.
As for the previous one I first unit test every components and everything works. But when running the full package it raised an error code 0x80004005 Error while validating post executing phase of the component (sorry for the poor translation from french to english ...)
I open my dataflow where the component is and found no warnings or errors. I edited through the advanced editor my Oledb source component and found that there's an error on the precision scale of the numeric return column. The message warn me that the precision must be between 1 and 38. I checked this column and in the "OLE DB Source output / External Columns" the precision is 0 though I previously manually corrected it. I upadted again for a 18 precision as it is for this column in "OLE DB Source output / Output Columns". But it never keeps my changes ......
I delete the component and recreate it to force the metadata to be updated but always the same thing, the precision scale for this column in the "OLE DB Source output / External Columns" never keeps my 18 value.
I have SSIS package which is extracting data from oracle. I am using always use defualt code page =true and Defualt code page value=1252.
While transferring values in to target table the package is success but when I check the decimal values For example I have 488.9602 or 56.908 values in oracle table but when they come to SQL server they are rounded as 488.0000 or 56.000.
How can I populate the correct values from source to target
The target table has data type decimal(26,4).
Also when I check in the preview of source table I am able to see correct values. This is happening during the transfer only.
I have a small problem in parameter mapping for Execute SQL Task. I am using a delete statement with 2 conditions. Followed by another Execute SQL Task which contains commit statement.
delete from tname where c1 = ? and c2 =?
where c1 is number(4) datatype and c2 is of varchar2(20) datatype in oracle.
The connection manager i am using is ORacle OLE DB provider. I am passing 2 global variables i.e g_v1 of Int32 and g_v2 of String Type.
In the parameter mapping of the Executing SQL task, i am mapping these 2 variables for c1 and c2 and changed the datatypes inside parameter mapping as Numeric for c1 and Varchar for c2.
I also set the property as ByPassPrepare = True.
When i am executing the package i getting INVALID NUMBER ERROR. i believe the SSIS is unable to perform the implict datatype converison.
For the next run, i changed the g_v1 varible datatype to Double and also i changed the parameter mapping for c1 as Doble datatype. This time it is working fine. I can see the Green signal for the 2 SQL Tasks.
But when i connected to Oracle check the count in the table, the data is not getting deleted.
Also, I set the property RetainSameConnection = TRUE for oracle connection manager. I am not able to trace this logical error.
The same is working fine in my local machine. But i am facing the problem when i deployed the same on the client machine.
Is there any problem with parameter mapping? What should be equialent Datatype for Oracle NUMBER datatype that should be used inside the SSIS package while declaring the global variable and inside the parameter mapping.
I have SS on 64bit trying to do a lookup to an Oracle 10G db - I'm reading from a SS table and using a column to be part of the 'where' clause on my lookup against a table in oracle - I get Data Type mismatch even though both columns are strings (the input SS column is mapped to a string Derived column which is then mapped to the lookup). If I run on a 32bit machine it works fine. I have a task that can successfully update the Oracle DB table (on 64bit), I just can't get the lookup to work on 64 bit.
insert into scn_transaction (sourceSystemName) values(@sourceSystem);
SELECT @txOut = @@identity
Whose purpose is to perform an insert into a table and return me the identity value of the inserted record, which I'll then use throughout the rest of my package. The identity column in the inserted table is numeric(18,0).
I execute the stored proc with the following sql with an OLE DB connection manager:
exec sp_newTransaction ?, ?
The first parameter is a string variable from earlier in the package, and the second is the output parameter. I have the following parameter mappings to the execute sql task:
The proc is correctly called, and the row insesrted, however I get a type conversion error when SSIS attempts to map the return parameter to my package variable... I've tried all sorts of combonations, and can't seem to get it to execute.
At one point I wasn't returning a numeric, but rather an int from the stored proc, and all was well until I went to use the variable in a derived column later in the package, and the type was converted quite incorrectly (a 1 was 77799789080 or some such), indicating a type conversion error likely related to the encoding of the number.
I'd like to keep the datatypes as numeric and make ssis use those - any pointers are greatly appreciated as to what type my package variable should be to allow proper assignment of a sql server numeric type to it.
I'm using Script Component to load data into Oracle DB due to the poor performance issue. Now, I found it will missing some data during the transmission. Please see the screenshot below:
Ok, we have built a data mart using SSIS etc...for transformations and loading.
Our biggest single problem we have currently is loading data from an Oracle server to our SQL server. Some tables from oracle run fine when retrieving the data but there is one particular table that just doesn't load fast enough (9 million records take over 12 hours). It seems that we are idling alot and its not always running.
I am getting this error when connecting to Oracle db. I tried using Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle it give me error and tells me the error could not be retrieved from Oracle. When I try the Native OLDDB provider for Oracle I get

I want to use "Oracle Data Provider for .Net" driver to get Oracle 10g data in SQL Server 2005 environment. I am getting this error message when try to import oracle tables in sql server.
"Operation could not be completed. The server name is not specified (DTS wizard)."
Any help will be very highly appreciated.
Also I want recomemndation on which driver should I use for getting huge Oracle data into SQL server environment?
I have a package that inserts data from a sql server table to an oracle table. I use a dataflow task to do the loading.
The weird thing is, if the package fails during execution, the transaction does not perform a rollback and the inserted data is committed.
The dataflow component has its TransactionOption set to Supported (this has always been the case for our sql to sql packages). However, now that I have a sql to oracle package, it won't work anymore.. also, setting the TransactionOption of the dataflow component to Required causes the whole package to fail.
I have SSIS package which is created to pull data from oracle server. The package is running fine when executing from BI studio. But failing when i execute as a job. I am getting teh below error message.

Appreciate if somebody can provide some inputs on this .
I am trying to pull data from an Oracle Db using SSIS. If I use the Table/View option in the Access Mode option on the OLE DB Source component, it works fine. But when I use the SQL Command option, the processing get stuck at Pre-Execution stage.... (for days).
how to pass the numeric(12,0) data type to a variable in SSIS? what kind of variable data type should I choose? I am trying to assign object_key column ( numeric(12,0)) to a variable in SSIS
If i select int32 , it keep giving me an error: Error: 0xC001F009 at Row by Row process: The type of the value being assigned to variable "User::Object_Key" differs from the current variable type. Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object.
Hi All, I am moving some numerical data from SQL server to excel. After the data is moved, i am getting green flag in excel cell to which the data is moved. I have configured the excel column to accept only numbers, but still i am getting green flag in excel cells. When i click the cell i am getting this message "The number in the cell is formatted as text or preceded by a apostrophe"
We have a custom web C#/SQL2K8R2 workflow application that I need to pull Oracle data into a varchar(max) field as an XML DOM document. I have no problem pulling the Oracle data using OLEDB, but I'm not sure how to create the XML DOM doc. Once I get it into the DOM doc, I then need to assign metadata about the XML DOM doc and insert it all into a staging table:
CREATE TABLE [stg].[EtlImports]( [EtlImportId] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [EtlSource] [varchar](50) NOT NULL, [EtlType] [varchar](50) NULL, [EtlDefn] [varchar](max) NULL, --Either a SQL statement or path to file on disk [EtlData] [varchar](max) NULL, --BLOB field to hold the XML data or FILESTREAM path to file on disk [EtlDateLanded] [datetime] NOT NULL, [EtlDateProcessed] [datetime] NULL, [EtlStatus] [varchar](50) NULL, [Comments] [varchar](4000) NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]
I will have a separate SSIS package to pull the [XML/File] field and process the data into the workflow tables. Is there a wasy I can use the ADO Record-set Destination task to accomplish this, or do I have to create a custom C# script to create the XML DOM Doc?
If I have an executesql task that returns a result set, if the result set contains a tinyint, I can't find what SSIS data type to declare the variable as. They all cause errors.
the situation is that i have a column data comes from flat file and all i want to do is to check that the incoming column is numeric(12,3) and if the incoming data exceed that size "12,3" exception or redirect the row is happened.
the problem that i try to apply that with the data conversion or Derived column component but it in case of the scale of the incoming data exceed 3 the component trim until 3 scale.
i also try to perform it with the flat file data source component but i face a problem that if the data in the column is empty then flat file data source component read the numeric column as Zero
i hope someone help me coz i need to handle it soon.
Hi, I have a table in SQL Server 2005 which has [Id] and [Name] as its columns. I also have a Oracle database which has a similar table.
What I want to do is as follows: In a SSIS package, I want to pick up details from SQL Server and update the Oracle table. And then should be done without using a linked server connection.
Can someone guide me as to how I can specify a update statement in the destination dataflow.
I am working on a project to write SSIS packages to update a SQL Server 2005 database with data from an Oracle 10g database. Unfortunately, our development ETL box is running 32 bit Windows Server 2003 while the production ETL box is running 64 bit Itanium Windows Server 2003. We have created SQL Server Agent jobs to execute all of our packages. All of our jobs run without error on the 32 bit development box, but in our preproduction tests they are failing in the 64 bit box.
In my testing, I've found that I can successfully pull character data from Oracle. For example, I can write a package that retrieves the data for the following query:
SELECT 'test' FROM dual
However, the following fails:
SELECT 1 FROM dual
I have logging turned on in my package. When the package fails, I typically see informational messages in the log up to the point of failure, but no actual error event logs are generated. The only error information I have is in the SQL Server Agent job history log, which contains the following:
Executed as user: SERVERNAMESYSTEM. The return value was unknown. The process exit code was -2147483646. The step failed.
I have also tried using the 64 bit version of the DTS Wizard to create a sample package, and observe the same behavior. When I run the DTS Wizard, queries that return numeric data cause DTSWizard.exe to exit and produce the following message in the application event log:
Event Type: Error Event Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting Event Category: None Event ID: 1000 Date: 2/1/2007 Time: 12:36:13 PM User: N/A Computer: SERVERNAME Description: Faulting application dtswizard.exe, version 9.0.2047.0, stamp 443f5e50, faulting module oracore10.dll, version 10.2.0.1, stamp 435841b0, debug? 0, fault address 0x00000000001e4910.Has anyone else experienced similar behavior, and know of a solution aside of wrapping all retrieval of numeric data in to_chars in our Oracle queries?
I have an OLE DB Source and i want to transform the data type fields of the table before i export the table in an OLE DB Destination. Is there a way to transform numeric value to float, and numeric to nvchar?
