Data Changes In SQLExpress Not Committed?

Aug 2, 2006

Hello,

I am developing an application with a SQLExpress database. The database contains a very simple table, and I have added a Dataset object to the solution, and generated a plain Adapter object in the Dataset (using the standard VS wizard capabilities) to operate on one of the tables in de database. Just plain SELECT, INSERT operations, etc.

Strange thing is, the data changes caused by the adapter's generated Insert command (which will call the INSERT statement on the database) are only visible while the application runs (or so it seems). For example:

- I start off with the table containing 2 records, and start debugging
- perform a COUNT within the code: 2 records
- call the Insert function once from code
- perform a COUNT within the code: 3 records
- stop debugging
- inspect the table: the 3rd record doesn't exist, just the 2 records

So, it seems that the changes don't get committed, although I am not sure it is a transaction/commit problem. I haven't been able to figure out what I can do to fix this. I have used adapters before on a SQL database, no problems there. Any comments appreciated.

Cheers, JP

How To Get A Row Committed

May 11, 2006

I have a package loading up rows of employees from an excel file. An employee may be in the file multiple times. The package does a lookup and if not found it inserts the employee. When the employee is found it does an update.

So in my file employee A gets added on the first occurrence in the file. On the second occurrence, the lookup does not find the employee and tries to insert a second time and I get a unique constraint. How do I make the first insert Commit so that it is seen by the lookup on the second occurrence.

thanks

Read Before Committed, Comments?

Mar 10, 2000

Consider this example please.
BEGIN TRAN
insert into OrderDetail (fields) VALUES (values)
insert into Orders (fields) VALUES (values)
COMMIT TRAN

If there is a trigger on Orders that takes some fields from OrderDetail and puts them into some other table.

When the trigger fires, can it find the details if the COMMIT has not occurred yet.

I'm wondering If I should use isolation level READ UNCOMMITTED.
After all, If the whole transaction rolls back, my trigger activity will be rolled back as well. Comments?

How Do I Update New Record Before It Is Committed?

Jun 9, 2008

I have a queue in service broker, which gets messages with a stored procedure which is invoked from VS application. The messages are properly stored in queue. I want to receive these messages one after the other and put it into a table. I am fetching the messages in a while loop which breaks when messages are over.

The first record is inserted properly. In the next iteration of the loop I want to append the next message data in that same record. This will continue for approximately 10 minutes after which a new record will be created. When I attempt to append the data in first record that record is not being read even though I have used isolation level read uncommitted.

What is it that I am missing to achieve the desired results?

Can't Start SQLEXPRESS So That I Can't Install Latest SQLEXPRESS Security Updates.

I can't start SQLEXPRESS.

The SQL ERRORLOG shows: Error is 3414, Severity 21, State 2 and says: "An error occurred during recovery, preventing the database 'model' (database ID 3) from restarting." Just prior to this, I get a warning: "did not see LP_CKPT_END".

Any thoughts why this might be and how I can fix this?

Locking In Read Committed With Row Versioning Isolation Level

Dec 27, 2007

I have a question on locking pattern of read committed with snapshot isolation level that when two transaction update two different records then why do they block to each other even if they have previous committed value (old version of record).

I executed the below batch from a query window in SSMS

--Session 1:
use adventureworks
create table marbles (id int primary key, color char(5))
insert marbles values(1, 'Black')
insert marbles values(2, 'White')
alter database adventureworks set read_committed_snapshot on
set transaction isolation level read committed
begin tran
update marbles set color = 'Black' where color = 'White'

--commit tran

Before committing the first transaction I executed below query from second query window in SSMS

--Session 2:
use adventureworks
set transaction isolation level read committed
begin tran
update marbles set color = 'White' where color = 'Black'
commit tran

Here the first session blocks to second session. These same transactions execute simultaneuosly in snapshot isolation level. So my question is why this blocking is required in read committed with snapshot isolation level?

Thanks & Regards,
Subhash Chandra

SQL Server 2014 :: Isolation Level Read Committed Snapshot

Dec 10, 2014

I have several databases set to read committed snapshot isolation level. Tempdb is configured according to best practices, but I don't see it's used much.

The application uses EF6, and it calls the stored procedures in the following way

Database.ExecuteSqlCommandAsync("exec dbo.spSync_MatchesByTenant @MatchesGroup, @TenantId", parameter, licenseIDParam);

Is it possible the code does not use the read committed snapshot isolation level of the database?

Excel Cell Data To SQLEXPRESS

Feb 22, 2008

Hello, I am haing a little trouble with send cell data from an Excel sheet to SQLEXPRESS and I'm sure that it is not that hard. Has anybody else come accross this. I have the code below, but it is not complete as I'm not sure what to do to complete it:

Private Sub cmdSend_Click()

Dim cn As New ADODB.Connection
Dim rs As New ADODB.Recordset

Dim strConn As String

strConn = "PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB;"

strConn = strConn & "DATA SOURCE=(local)SQLEXPRESS;INITIAL CATALOG=test;"

strConn = strConn & " INTEGRATED SECURITY=sspi;"

cn.ConnectionString = strConn
cn.Open

Set rs = New Recordset

With rs
' Assign the Connection object.
.ActiveConnection = cn
' Extract the required records.
.Open "UPDATE tblData Set ID = ID, Name = Name"
' Copy the records into cell A1 on Sheet1.
Sheet1.Range("A2, B2").CopyFromRecordset rs

' Tidy up
.Close
End With

cn.Close

End Sub

I know that it is not correct, but I am trying to convert a recordset query from SQL to Excel to Update Sql from Excel.

The cells from A2 down have an ID and cells from B2 down have a name.

As MS suggest to calculate the temp db file size and growth rate we need to monitor the perform counters Free Space in Tempdb (KB) and Version Store Size (KB) in the Transactions object.

basic formula: [Size of Version Store] = 2 * [Version store data generated per minute] * [Longest running time (minutes) of your transaction

That string looks like this (for a MS SQL database):strConnectie = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;" & _ "Data Source=(local)SQLEXPRESS;"
& _ "Initial Catalog=[GEBRUIKERSNAAM];" & _ "User Id=[GEBRUIKERSNAAM];" & _ "Password=[WACHTWOORD]"My connectionstring in web.config looks like this:<connectionStrings><clear/><add name="ClubSiteDB"

SQL 2012 :: Read Committed For Read Only Database?

Jun 27, 2014

i have a database which get refreshed every day from client's data . and we need to pull heavy data from them every day as reports . so only selects happens on that database.

we do daily population of some table in some other databases from this daily refreshed DB.

will read uncommitted or NOLOCK with select queries to retrieve data faster.

there will be no dirty read as there are NO DML operation in that database so for SELECT which happens concurrently on these tables , will NOLOCK work?

SQLExpress ASP.NET Confusion

Jul 19, 2006

Hello,I am just getting reaquainted with programming and all. I work in GIS mapping and am having diffilculty using  a ASP.net internet Map site and adding records to a needed database.I would like to be able to add records to a linked SQLExpress table when the user clicks on a map location. I adapted the following code snippet from an example that does what I would like only using an .mdb file.CODE:    // create connection to database                        var connection;                        connection = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection");                        connection.Open("Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=OutdoorsExp;Data Source=NOLOGOSQLEXPRESS;");                        status = "Can't access 'FishSQL' table.";                        // create recordset                        var recordset;                        recordset = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset");                        recordset.CursorType = 1                        recordset.LockType = 3;                        recordset.Open("dbo.FishTable", connection);                                                status = "Can't append new record.";                        // append record for clicked location                        recordset.AddNew();                        recordset.Fields("LongitudeI").Value = xco;                        recordset.Fields("LatitudeI").Value = yco;                                                recordset.Update();                        recordset.Close();                        // release the .mdb file                        connection.Close();However, this does not add anything to the SQLEx table. What am I missing? I am thinking that it might have something to with the primary key.I had a table with way more columns then just lat/longs (as above) but only coded it to add data to the latitude and longitude fields. Nothing got added of course. Would have to add data to every field that doesnt allow nulls.How do I generate a random, unique ID for a primary key on the fly and for example add it to the appropriate column.Thanks you in adavnce for any insights.

SQLExpress To SQL 2000

Jul 22, 2006

To be as brief as possible:I had Visual Studio 2005 installed with SQLExpress 2005.  worked reallll good :) I needed to convert an excell spreadsheet to SQL, so I migrated it to Access.  Then the upsizing wizard would not/could not create an sql table with the data.  Just would not take the data when the table was created. Argh.FINALLY figured out that the SQLexpress 2005 doesn't come with import/export.So I uninstalled the sqlexpress and installed SQL 2000 - Developer.  Veeola, able to convert and created the table I needed.Now Visual Studio 2005 won't let me touch the sql file, says it requires sql server express 2005.My ISP does not support SQL 2005 yet.  Is there anyway to get Visual Studio 2005 to work with SQL 2000 (only?)If I install SQLExpress over again, will it create problems when I go to publish my website, and more importantly right now, will anything bad happen when I reinstall sql express, or do I need to uninstall SQL 2000 first?  Thanks...

What Is The Limitation Of SQLEXPRESS?

May 4, 2007

** For those 20 users (or fewer) who've read http://forums.asp.net/thread/1692306.aspx, I'm sorry that I ask the same question.Like I said above, what is the limitation of SQLEXPRESS, in terms of performance and scability?I'm creating a new webboard application that will replace the old one. I intend it to handle 200 concurrent users + 70000 records (9 years of data)The current system use Microsoft Access, which is reaching it's limit in performance and size. I took a look in the SQL Server product information page : http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinfo/features/compare-features.mspx.It didn't tell me what I want, like how many connections it can handle, for example.If there are limitations that might cause my application to not reach the required specification (above), I may need to switch to MySQL. I've no intention buying a licensed SQL Server 2005.Thanks in advance.PS: Why there're so few users viewing my posts? Anyone know a more active forum that may help me?
