i created a query to insert a row in DataSet in Visual Studio 2005. i gave the method name to the query i created. as i understood it returns '1' if successful or '0' if not.
is it possible to get the ID or the row instead?
I have a gridview and a dataset. When I start my application I see the results in my gridview. When I clic on edit and chanche some value and click on update it wil give me this error:ObjectDataSource 'ObjectDataSourcePersoon' could not find a non-generic method 'Update' that has parameters: naam, tussenvoegsel, achternaam, adres, woonplaats, telefoonnummer, original_id, Original_naam, Original_tussenvoegsel, Original_achternaam, Original_adres, Original_woonplaats, Original_telefoonnummer. I can select and insert, but I can't update or delete. I right click on the adapter bar and select Add Query. I sleect 'Use SQL Statements'I select 'Update' (or 'Delete')I get a sql statement pane containing the word 'Update' ('Delete') and asking 'What data should the table load?'I can click on next, but anything else gives me errors. I have a user input form with upwards of 60 fields that are to be filled in by the user (intranet environment). I want to post those values as a new record in an SQL database. I have setup an SQLDataAdapter tied to a parameterized stored procedure on the SQL server. I can successfully post data from the controls on the form when I set the parameter type to Control based.
Here's the problem, though. I need to do some pre-processing on most of the values in the controls on the form. I have setup VB code (that executes when the user clicks the "Submit" button), that pulls in each control value, performs any necessary processing, and sets a variable to the value I actually want stored in the DB. How can I assign THAT value (from the variable) to the parameter for the stored procedure?

To simplify:
1) C# smart device appliccation
2)a database file *sdf
3)a typed dataset using the wizard to do so
4)TableAdapter with connection string with no problems(cool)
5)use of Insert method that returns 1 ( also cool) [--> MyTableAdapter.Insert("blabla","blablabla"); <------]
6)no saved records in the DB file(baaaaaad)

Hi, it is few days I posted here my question, but received no answer. Maybe the problem is just my problem, maybe I put my question some strange way. OK, I try to put it again, more simply. I have few textboxes, their values I need to transport to database. I set SqlDataSource, parameters... and used SqlDataSource.Insert() method. I got NULL values in the database's record. So I tried find problem by using Microsoft's sample code from address http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.sqldatasource.insert.aspx. After some changes I tried that code and everything went well, data were put into database. Next step was to separate code beside and structure of page to two separate files followed by new test. Good again, data were delivered to database. Next step: to use MasterPage, very simple, just with one ContentPlaceHolder. After this step the program stoped to deliver data to database and delivers only NULLs to new record. It is exactly the same problem which I have found in my application. Table A could look like the following where the multiple employees could have multiple types and multiple stages.

Table B is a list of requirements that each employee must have. So every employee must have a type 1 and 2 and the associated stages listed below.

So I know that each employee should have 2 Type 1's and 4 Type 2's. I hope that makes sense, I'm trying to change my data because ours is very proprietary.
I need to identify employees who do not have all their stages and list the stages they are missing. The final report should only have employees and the associated missing types and stages.
I do a count by employee to see how many types they have to identify the ones that don't have all the types and stages.
My count would look something like this:
EmployeeNumber Type Total
100, 1, 2
100, 2, 2
200, 1, 1
200 1, 2
So I know that employee 100 should have 2 more Type 2's and employee 200 should have 1 more Type 1 and 2 more Type 2's based on the required list.
The problem I'm having is taking that required list and joining to my list of employees with missing data and pulling from it the types and stages that are missing by employee. I thought I could get a list of the employees that are missing information and right join it to the required list where the missing records would be nulls. But, that doesn't work because some employees do have the required information and so I'm not getting any nulls returned.
Hi,Ive got a class in my code which contains data from several tables. A user profile has a single record in a user_profile tables, for each of these records there is several records in a another table, which itself has several records in a tags table.So far the save method on the class saves the record to the user profile table, then loops through the next two tables info to insert each record. I want to decrease the number of trips to the database and am wondering if anyone can advise on the best way to do this.I am considering using a dataset to retrieve and store the records, instead of a datareader Im using currently. Then when Im done altering the data in the dataset (all three tables) I can commit all the changes in one database transaction?? I have been avoiding datasets due to the fact datareaders are apparently faster.My other option is to try make three calls to the database, one per table, updating my stored procedures to accept arrays of data using XML?? Can anyone tell me what is the best option for me?Thanks,C

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a table adapter for one of my SQL2005 tables, and in two different fields I accept a date time. Now 99% of the times, new rows to this table will be filled out using DateTIme.Now(), as a Time Stamp is what I'm going for.
Here is the line of code in question...cops_current_data_adapter.Insert(ProductOrder, Convert.ToInt16(Session["StationId"].ToString()),
PartNumber, DateTime.Now, DateTime.Now, Convert.ToInt16(qty), 0);
The second DateTime.Now is the one that can be null, and it's throwing a formatting error everytime I try and drop it in there. It's a FormatException, and there's not much more to the example except unhelpful tips like be careful when conveting a string to a dateTime, which I'm not doing. Needless to say for the code to compile, and then throw a Format error at runtime is a bit frustraiting.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated
Ok I think I will need to use a temp table for this and there is no code to share as of yet. Here is the intent.
I need to insert data into two tables (a header and detail table) the Header Table will give me lets say an order number and this order number needs to be placed on the corresponding detail lines in the detail table.
Now if I were inserting a single invoice with one or more detail lines EASY, just set @@Identity to a variable and do a second insert statement.
What is happening is I will be importing a ton of Invoice headers and inserting those into the header table. The details are already in the database across various tables and and I will do that insert based on a select with some joins. As stated I need to get the invoice number from IDENTITY of the header table for each DETAIL insert.
I am assuming the only way to do this is with a loop... Insert one header, get identity; Insert the detail table and include the IDENTITY variable, and repeat.

I have a stored procedure attached below. It returns 2 rows in the SQL Management studio when I execute MyStorProc 0,28. But in my program which uses ADOHelper, it returns a dataset with tables.count=0.
if I comment out the line --If @Status = 0 then it returns the rows. Obviously it does not stop in
if @Status=0 even if I pass @status=0. What am I doing wrong?

i have two datasets.one dataset have old data from some other database.second dataset have original data from sql server 2005 database.both database have same field having id as a primary key.i want to transfer all the data from first dataset to new dataset retaining the previous data but if old dataset have the same id(primary key) as in the new one then that row will not transfer.

I have two datasets in my report, D1 and D2.
D1 is a list of classes with classid and title
D2 is a list of data. each row in D2 has a classid. D2 may or may not have all the classids in D1. all classids in D2 must be in D1.
I want to show fields in D2 and group the data with classids in D1 and show every group as a seperate table. If no data in D2 is available for a classid, It shows a empty table.
Is there any way to do this in RS2005?

now idIndicator and idEq was result of an other dataSet from a xml datasource...
But I don't how integrate dynamically... I try to enter a parameter via the param tab, and create and expression :

I've a dataset and query by a field name 'companyid'.
select * from companyid where companyid = @icompany which @icompany is a input field.
if user select all, i'll send 0 to @icompany then I need to select all records.
question 1. How can I get all records? (i think about this query select * from companyid <> 0)
if user select for example companyid = 1, i'll send 1 to @icompany and the query work fine.
question 2. How can I change the query to adopt this 2 condition?
