Database Connection - Don't have permission to open file
I'm trying to establish a connection to a database file (c: empMine.mdf) through visual studio c# express 2005 edition.
I'm using the database explorer/add connection wizard.
On the add connection dialog window when i browse and select the db file to connect to i'm getting the message
"You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission"
I have SQL Server Express 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio Express installed.
Within the management studio at the server security level i'm mapped to the db file
(Mine.mdf) and have db_owner and public ticked and have also set the default database
as Mine
At the database security level under usersproperties i have also ticked db_owner.
Also when i select properties for the db file itself it's telling me that i'm the owner.
I'm also using vista home premium edition and using windows authentication instead of
sql server authentication.
I'm fairly new to all this so there may be something glaringly obvious i've missed!
I receive this error when choosing the data connection in TableAdapter Wizard for me to reference the ASPNETDB.mdf database.
Failed to open a connection to the database
"The header for file 'C:InetpubwwwrootWebsites4App_DataASPNETDB.MDF is not valid databasefile header. The FILE SIZE property is incorrect.An attempt to attach an auto-named database exists, or specified file cannotbe opened, or it is located on UNC share."
Check the connection and try again.
I already have the connection at config but the error persists.
I am very new to VB.Net but my goal is to build a web app that ineracts with an Access database. This is a very small scale app so I am not interested in using SQL server. I created my Access database and the udl file for connection information.
I created a class that opens a connection to the database when the webpage loads.
I get the following error though,

The database is not open so I know it is a matter of security. I have configured IIS to use an admin account and the Access db does not have security turned on. In the UDL file I have selected read/write access and the test connection works.
Can anyone help me narrow down the root of this error,

I created ReportServer by reporting services configuration and i gave the local and remote permissions using surface area cofiguration using tcp/ip only. But when i browse the reportserver i got the below mentioned error.

Can not open mssql .bak file in ms_sql. File starts with "ti" and someweired charctor. Can some one help me on how to open this back up ofmssql database. I've tried to restore this file in mssql and it says itdoes not recognize this file. I understand that .bak file for mssqlshould start with "tape". I got an approach like that: 1) Read something from DB - check the value, if true stop if false go on2) Read the second Value (another SQL Statement) - check the value etc. Now I could open the connection at 1) and if I have to go to 2) I leave the connection open and use the same connection at 2). Is it ok to do that? The other scenario would be opening a connection at 1), immediately close it after I read the value and open a new connection at 2). Thanks for the input!
I create a certificate and a symmetric key encryption by it. Then i create a user and grant the view definition permission of both object to the user.
But it return a error message "Cannot find the certificate 'cert1', because it does not exist or you do not have permission" when execute the open symmetric sql statement as the user.
It' very surprised that it return a string when execute encryptbyCert function ,but it return null when execute decryptbyCert function...

I have a SQL Server 2005 database file (a .mdf file) that I am trying to open in SQL Server Management Studio so I can add a field to a table, but I am unable to open the file. I can't say that I really understand how SQL Server handles these databases. I especially don't understand the "attaching" and "detaching" operations.
I am working in VB.Net 2008 now, but my background is with VB6 using the JET engine. It was just so straightforward using the JET engine, but seems so much more complicated with SQL Server. I am trying to use .mdf files the same way I used .mdb files. I want my application to find the database file, "attach to it", and let me manipulate it.
At one time I was able to open my database in Sql Server Management Studio and edit the design of the database. The application still works but I am no longer able to modify the database because I cannot attach to it in Management Studio.
Here is a big clue: the files are no longer in the special folder anymore, which is c:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2MSSQLDATA. I might have deleted the files, stupidly, thinking they were redundant. I still have the .mdf file (and the _log.ldf file) on my hard drive and the application can still open it, but when I try to use Management Studio to attach to the .mdf file, I get this error:

Indeed the file is not there, but why is Mgmt Studio looking there? Why doesn't it just open the file where it is? What can I do to get it back? I even copied the files to c:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2MSSQLDATA? I get the same error.
Here is another clue: In Management Studio, when I right-click Databases, and chose Attach, it brings up a dialog. There I click "Add" to get another dialog in which I will select a database, but before the dialog appears I get this error:

you see these are the requirements.. 1. there is a text file named "Loan" 2. i must create a program using ASP.net wherein the text file can be imported in the system. 3. after importing, i must save the whole text file in a database.

Event 17204, FCB::Open failed: Could not open file F:MSSQLDatafilename.mdf for file number 1. Â OS error: 5(Access is denied.).When I look at the file permissions of filename.mdf, there is no MSSQLSERVER group permissions listed nor can I add it. I am accessing SQL2005 with C# code using OleDbConnection.
A try and catch block catches the following error once a while between the Open() and Close() of the connection:
ExecuteNonQuery requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is closed.
I do not even have any idea where to start to debug this. The ExecuteNonQuery() runs a delete SQL query. It works 99.9% of the time. I do not see anything wrong when this error happens.
I'm working on a report to show financial transactions from a table over a certain period. For most transactions there is a PDF document that is stored in a separate table in a binairy format. In my report I would like to include a link on every line with transaction information in the report that opens the PDF that is linked to that transaction. Just to be clear, I don't want to embed the PDF in the report but I want the users of the report to have the option to view the PDF that is related to that transaction in their standard pdf reader (adobe).
Code to do the following:
Once a user clicks on the link to view the PDF I need the code to get the binairy data of the PDF file from the table, convert it back to a PDF and open it in the default pdf reader (for example adobe reader). If it can't directly open the file then it's maybe possible to activate the 'open or download' pop up that you also get when you download something from a website.Â

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have installed the SQL Native Client for XP. However, when I try to add a new data source through ODBC Connection Manager, SQL Native Client is not listed as an option. I have followed this procedure on three other systems with no problems. What would be causing the SQL Native Client to not show up in the list of available ODBC data sources?
I get the below error only when my IDE open. It connects well when it is found closed. [SqlException (0x80131904): Cannot open user default database. The problem that I am having is that with Visual Web Developer I am creating a webpage and having it directly put online, so for example when I start a new ASP.NET page, I select the location to be HTTP, with the location http://MYWEBSERVER/Website and for the language and Visual BasicI notice a couple of things, first that there is no longer a a link under the Main toolbar "Website" selection called the ASP.NET configuration. So how can I configure what I want to have users be able to do? It seems that this choice is only available if I am building the ASP.NET page on my "localhost". So that is the first problem. So I am able to get the pages to work, atleast the things such as the textboxes to show up etc, (Even things as advanced as the "Login" box). How ever when I try to get someone to try to login I am taken to a page that has an server error. The error is: "The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file. " The Stack Trace Errors are at the bottom. I think this is happening because the automatically generated databases are not getting built online as they are on my computer. On my computer I have MSSQL express. So either the databases are not getting built for some reason, (and I think that is the case as I don't see any in the folder). So I think that somehow I have to create a database on my server, and then somehow configure the ASP.NET file, perhaps in the Web.Config file to look for that new database. Is this the correct methodology? Is there some simpler way that I can just somehow upload things as they are and have them work correctly on my server? The error says that either the Server did not find the database or that the trust level was insufficient. I don't think that is it as I just looked again and I don't see any .MDF files. So how would I go about getting this to work right? Is there a way to do this with MySQL also? So that I don't have to use MSSQL? My server only allows 1 DataBase for that. after i attached the file in package configurations .
i was unable to see the db connection in connection managers.
i tried to attach the .dtsconfig file in (New OLEDB connection manager) but after clicking the test connection " Testconnection failed because of an error in intializing provider.The connectionString property is not intialized"
Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET. I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page. I apologize upfront if this is an old issue but i couldn't find the solution after searching quite a bit.
I have a OLE db connection manager and an ADO.net db connection manager and both of them fail when i run them in VS dev environment:
Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection
When I set up my connection managers, they do connect fine but no matter which one i try to use with an Execute sql task, the above error keeps popping up.
The connection managers are both set up to use SQL Authentication and the database is not on my local machine but instead on a server and my package security is set to 'DontSaveSensitive'. I have not yet deployed so this is all in my VS.net dev environment where it's failing.
I have also turned off the firewall on both the development server and my pc. All I want to be able to do is let the connection managers point the the dev server as the db is on there.
I am running my package in sql server 2012, in which i am giving network path for flat file destination. And its working fine. But if i give m local path, its giving me  error " cannot open data file" ...
I have used the copy database wizard, but I realized I had forgotten to shrink the transaction log file. So I canceled the wizard. My database, detached by the wizard, has now disappeared. The mdf file is still there, but when I try to attach it manually I get the "create file encountered operating system error 5 while attempting to open the physical file..." error.

I have a configuration database that holds connection details to a remote database. I want to use these connection details to dynamically create a new connection to some remote database.
I usually work in with C# where this would be simple but I can't find how to do this using SSIS.
I have found people using configuration files but as I already have my connection data in a table I don't really want to strip it out. (Also, is it a security risk to have database connection strings stored in a config file?)
I have been able to implement a custom script object to build the connection string and assign it to a user variable within the package but can't find any way to then use that variable to connect to the remote database.

I am trying to write a Windows Application using ASP.NET 2.0, C#2005 EXPRESS, and SQL 2005 EXPRESS.
I had followed the introductory video to create a connection to the Database using Windows Authentication, and use the wizard to create a dataset and checking all the tables in the database.
After that I dragged a table from the data source created from the above process. The Details Grid so created is able to perform update, delete and addition of records.
But when I went back to the database at my PC I wasn€™t able to connect to the database. And if I opened the database first and then load the windows application and perform some database operations and went back to the physical database I wasn€™t able to open the tables in the database.
The error message is that the physical database connection cannot open the .mdf file or log file because another process is using the database. I guess it refers to the Windows Application.
Is this normal? Will it have any implications after the application is deployed? I suppose that there isn€™t a scenario where a Windows application and a physical process will access the database at the same time.
Will appreciate some feedback and advice on this scenario and whether it is a problem.
