Jul 30, 2015In SSMS, I connect Object Explorer to a partially contained database using a contained user login with password. This user has a database role of dbdatareader. When I try to expand the Tables in the database, I get the error:Â
The SELECT permission was denied on the object 'extended_properties', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229)
Is there a way to set permissions for the contained user so that this could be done?

Purpose of making dynamic is that I have created separate sp for all the input, my clients want to have sungle dynamic sp which will execute on the basis of input file.this input file name I wil get fromm variable which i have created in SSIS Package.
Lets consider @File_name is the variable in package which store the file name
if file name is CCTFB then my query should take the Source table ,Destination table and BBX expression value from file master table.
Like that I have 100 of source query and evry query have diffrent number of columns. How can I change the column number in uodate and insert statement dynamically on run time.

HardCoded Breakpoint
Mar 5, 2001My SQLAgent keeps failing with a DR. Watson message(see above) with differen addresses. Sometimes the SQL Agent will restart and other times it stays down.
I get no messages in the Agent Log or the SQL Server log. I get one message in the NT Event Log "SQLServerAgent Monitor: SQLServerAgent has terminated unexpectedly".
Running NT 4 sp 5 w SQL 7 w sp 2.
If you look at the NT Services, it shows that SQLAgent is still running. But SQL Enterprise manager shows it stopped.
If you try to look at a scheduled job or a DTS package, you get the message that SQL Agent is starting and to try back later.
Have stopped the NT Services SQL Agent and then tried to start it with Enterprise manager. No luck.
Only way that I have found to get out of this mess is to restart the server.

Need To Change Hardcoded Paths
Mar 17, 2008I have created over a hundred reports and each of them are scheduled to output a pdf. The problem is this was temporary and each week I would like to output the reports to a directory that is based upon time. For example, I have 13 groups of reports and each group has 9 reports. Each group has it's own directory and folder. IE group A would be saved in something like \client filesgroup aweekly reportsMar 17 2008. The next week the reports for the same group need to be saved in \client filesgroup aweekly reportsMar 24 2008. This would be the same for each of the groups; group A, group B etc.
The question is there a way to set these paths dynamically or at least iterate through the subscriptions and change the paths?

We use reporting services to report on our SQL 2005.
I wanted to have a function that translates a filter (parameter) in one RDL from IDs to Names to be able to show a summary of what the user selected when he executed the report.
Instead of writing this function in the .Code, I said great, lets use custom assemblies.
PROBLEM: I see examples on how to enable a function in such dll access to DB, but they all hardcode the connection string in the vb code. that seems useless to me. Each customer will have different server name, I need to get the connection string from the sme (shared data source) used in the catalog's folder. just like the RDl is using it. how do I do that?

I have installed an ASP.NET 2.0 application which uses a SQL Server Express database file on a client's network. I am able to connect to my client's network remotely over the internet. I would like to know if there's a way - and if so, how - to manage the Database file remotely.
I have VWD Express, SQL Server Manager Studio Express and a trial version of SQL Server 2005 on my development machine.

Attaching Database In SQL Server Management Studio

I recently installed the express edition of sql server express, I installed with all the default options and choose windows authorisation for login. I have tried to attach a database in studio mangement and it threw an exception about security and connection error, I presume I have no priviledges, but I have tried to grant myself rights and basically tried everything but I cant seem to get anywhere with it, would apprechiate some advise on this subject, and what steps I should take to setup and use and have complete rights to the database thanks in advance

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio - Opening SQL-File From Explorer Does Not Connect Automaticly To Server/database

I have a question about opening files in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.
In the old Query Analyzer from SQL 2000 I can open SQL Files via drag & drop (from explorer to QA) or open it with a double click in the explorer. Then the Files opened, if I had actual a connection to a server / database (QA is stared with one file and has a connection to Server/Datebase), with this connection.
Now in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio I'll be asked everytime for Server and have to get the database from the database list - it does not connect automaticly to server/database, that is actual connected (I have opened a file with the connection and a connected database in the object explorer).
Someone do not have this problem - but we found no option to set it up.
Any ideas?

Nov 2, 2015In our application we are copying data between 2 sqlserver databases using linked server. Say, sqlserver1 is source and sqlserver2 is destination, then, our application will be on sqlserver2 box and will copy data from sqlserver1 to sqlserver2.
User also need to choose from which database of sqlserver1, the data need to be copied. This data is our application data.. Nothing related to sqlserver database.
We are using the following query, to get the database names of the source sqlserver..
SELECT * FROM <linked server to dest db>.master.sys.databases
My questions is : is this query generic enough that works on all sqlserver versions?
Is the master database name of sqlserver configurable or its alwasys fixed as "master"?

I just realized recently that a database "XYZ" in the Object Explorer of my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) is put in the Database Explorer of my VB 2005 Express for processing a Stored Procedure in executing the SELECT statements (not by using Input and/or Output Parameters) during the ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 Express programming, then the content of the database "XYZ" is not in the SSMSE. How can I return the database "XYZ" from the DataBase Explorer of VB 2005 Express back to the Object Explorer of SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) safely? Please help and advise.

Aug 9, 2007HiI am using SQL Server Management Studio Express to make my databases but I noticed if I make my database in Visual studios and go new Item and make a new database I see it in app_data folder and server express tab and if I make it in SQL Server Management Studio Express I only see it in the server explorer. So if I have to move my files to another computer how do I move my database easly with SQL Server Management Studio Express? Since when you make it with the visual studio the file gets stored with all the other files of your project so if you move it all to another computer you prob won't run into a problem. So how do I make it that so I can do everything in SQL Server Management Studio Express(since I like working in it) then export it into a file that I can then go into my app_data folder and add it is an exist item? I get an error. I can only create a database in my C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData . I cannot create the database in other folder.

Database Snapshot In SQL Server Management Studio Express
Oct 16, 2007How do I set up a database snapshot and backup the database for Windows Server Update Services 3.0, that uses the "desktop" version of SQL server on the same server running Widows Server 2003? There does not seem to be a "Management Plans" sub-folder under the "management" folder in the Management Studio Express console- so that's probably my first request- how do I establish a "Management Plans" subfolder, then how do I (step-by-step) set up a backup of the SUSDB?

Apr 15, 2006I am having a problem Attaching, well actually not being able to see a database when attempting to attach it. I suspect this is more of a security issue rather than a problem with Management Studio, but I can't figure out what is happening.
If I copy a database to Documents and SettingsAll Users... and attempt to attach I can see the file in the selection tree. This also is the case if I copy it to Documents and SettingsDefault User... But if I copy it to Documents and SettingsADynarski... which is the account I normally log into, when I expand the folder in the selection tree, nothing is visible. And the same thing occurs if I copy the file to Documents and SettingsGuest...
I've looked at the security settings and everything appears to be normal. This is on a box with XP Home and SQL Server Express. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?

SQL Server Management Studio Express Export Database

I'am a student and I'am using the Express version of the SQL sever Management Studio. The question that I have is:
Can I create a SQL database on my local computer and use this database on a other computer?
So I create a database on a laptop and want to export/import this on a desktop.
If this is possible can somebody sent met a tutorial ore something.

How To Create Database Diagrams In SQL Server Management Studio?

I installed SQL Server 2005 onto Vista RTM.
When launched SQL Server Mangement Studio -> Databases -> choose a database and expand.
Right click on top of "Database Diagrams" node, only options I've got are:
1. Working with SQL Server 2000 Diagram
2. Refresh.
Wondering did I missing something on my system in order to make database diagrams to work?
