Database Backup Failed After Server Upgrade To V12
Jul 21, 2015
We backup the database using the following method
1. launch the DacIESvcCli.exe at specified time, which in-turn calls the service (southeast asia).
2. the bacpac is created and uploaded to the specified storage
However, after upgrading the Server to V12, it failed to create bacpac file in the storage, there are no errors/no logs/no information.

Hi,
I was trying to restore some databases from one SQL Server to another SQL server on another machine. When i backed up them i followed the procedure described on the MSDN website.
Now when tried to restore them on to a new machine on another instance of SQL Server i got the following error. I really dont know what it means. The error is:
"Device activation error. The physical file name 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL$SOPHOSDataeRoom_eRoomSite.mdf' may be incorrect.
File eRoom_eRoomSite cannot be restored to 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL$SOPHOSDataeRoom_eRoomSite.mdf'. Use WITH MOVE to identify a valid location for the file.
Device activation error. The physical file name 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL$SOPHOSDataeRoom_eRoomSite_log.ldf' may be incorrect.
File eRoom_eRoomSite cannot be restored to 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL$SOPHOSDataeRoom_eRoomSite_log.ldf'. Use WITH MOVE to identify a valid location for the file.
RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally."
Now from the file location i can see that it has got the location of database where it was belong but question is why it is storing the old path here on the backup file. On the path "MSSQL$SOPHOS" is the instance of the SQL Server from where it was backed up. According to the Administrator's pocketbook on the microsoft web site we can restore a database on a completely new machine, then why is this error. Can anyone please help me.
Thanks very much.

I can't install the SQL Server 2012 Express version with tools downloaded from [URL]
I'm getting the following error:Â
Error installing SQL Server Database Engine Services Instance Features
Could not find the Database Engine startup handle.
Error code: 0x851A0019
I'm trying to install a new stand-alone version with a default instance but always getting this error. From the features I'm installing the database engine services (not the replication), all the tools, only the basic management toolds and the SQL Client connectivity SDK.
Further in the installation I'm choosing the Windows authentication and in the list of SQL administrators I've already tried to install as current user but also as System. Both with the same error result.

Note: Visual studio is not installed.

We recently upgraded to SQL 2005. A windows service account was setup for the SQLServer agent as(domainuser). Our backups are failing with the following message.
Unable to perform a SETUSER to the requested username 'dbo' because the username is invalid for database.
The master and msdb backups are working fine.

I am needing to restore a SQL server 7 database. I had a backup, but the media it was on has failed. I have copies of the folder the original database was in (.mdf files and such), but I was wondering if there is a way to re-integrate these files in order to pick up where we left off. Thank you.

Hi,
I have SQL Server 2000 with SP4. When we take backup from Enterprise manager its fails with error "timeout expired". But when we take backup from query analyzer it works.
It seems that through enterprise manager 30 sec is the non configurable timeout parameter set. Checked sysprocesses table during backup but there was no blocking during that time at least for that spid.
Is there a way to find out which process is blocking the database backup? Also, what are the possible scenarios where database backup can be blocked.
Thanks,
Ramesh

Hi,
I am administering several SQL Servers running SQL Server 2005 SP2 Build 3042.
I have a common maintenance plan that runs on each of the servers. The maintenance plan runs
fine on all the servers except for one. On the one server the Database Integrity check fails with the following error:
Check Database integrity on Local server connection
Databases: <list of databases>
Include indexes
Task start: 2008-02-21T00:05:42.
Task end: 2008-02-21T00:05:46.
Failed0) Alter failed for Server €˜XYZ€™
I created a test maintenance plan to just do the integrity check and selected one database only and this also failed with the same error message. I ran this test maintenance plan and configured it for each of the databases in question and it failed each time.
If I run the DBCC manually against the databases they all report fine.
I read some of the post that talked about the €œAllow Updates€? being set incorrectly but that does not apply to my problem since my configured and run values are set to 0.
Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I have a VM with Windows Server 2012 and SQL 2014 installed. Some things about the VM: Using VMware Workstation 11. Created with 160 GB hard disk and 4G memory (that's all we could do when needing to run multiple VMs from the box we're using). I am able to get to the internet and to our network but the internet connection tells me that there is no internet access and we can't seem to fix it.When I attempt to create a backup of one of my DBs, I receive the attached error. No other backup has been created for this particular DB so it would not need to overwrite anything. This is an issue for all of the DBs that are in the SQL Server and not just an isolated DB.
We ran DBCC CHECKDB against the DB and no errors were returned.A bit about the DBs: Our software creates a number of empty DBs upon install. For testing purposes we have DBs that are populated with data that we restore once the install is complete. So our procedure is, once all services are shut down for our software and the SQL connection has been cut, we delete the DBs created during install and restore the DBs that will replace them. All of the DBs restored successfully so I don't understand why there would be an issue with backing them up.Â

On the SQL Server the Event Viewer shows the same messages and errors every evening between 22:05:00 and 22:08:00. The following information messages are shown for every database:
"I/O is frozen on database <database name>. No user action is required. However, if I/O is not resumed promptly, you could cancel the backup."
"I/O was resumed on database <database name>. No user action is required."
"Database backed up. Database: <database name>, creation date(time): 2003/04/08(09:13:36), pages dumped: 306, first LSN: 44:148:37, last LSN: 44:165:1, number of dump devices: 1, device information: (FILE=1, TYPE=VIRTUAL_DEVICE: {'{A79410F7-4AC5-47CE-9E9B-F91660F1072B}4'}). This is an informational message only. No user action is required."
After the 3 messages the following error message is shown for every database:
"BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP LOG <database name>. Check the backup application log for detailed messages."
I have added a Maintenance Plan but these jobs run after 02:00:00 at night.
Where can I find the command or setup which will backup all databases and log files at 22:00:00 in the evening?

Installed sql 2005 sp1 on standalone Win 2003 Server box in workgroup. (sql 2000 is default instance, sql 2005 is named instance and sql 2005 Express is floating around somewhere).). Box does not have any prior CTP SP1 versions.
When I reach the "Authentication Mode" dialog during the SP1 install, and click Next, I get
"Your account information could not be verified for one or more instances. Ensure that you can connect to all the selected instances using the account information provided.."
I reset and restarted the sql 2005 database and reporting services using both a local account an the €œsa€? account. In both cases I received the above error message.
What am I missing here?

I tried the Upgrade method on SqlCeEngine, but that throws an exception if the database has already been upgraded. And because the exception type is generic, I have no reliable way to know if it was caused by corruption or because it is too stupid to ignore requests to upgrade from 3.5 to 3.5.
If someone can show me a way to get the database version, this would be easy to solve.

Perhaps someone here can give me a hand with this... I have three servers running SQL Server 2000. Two are running Windows Server 2000 SP4 with SQL 2000/SP4 and one Windows Server 2003 with SQL 2000/SP?(probably not 4). I copied the installation DVD to a network drive and successfully performed an in-place upgrade of the Windows Server 2003 machine. However, when I try to upgrade either of the other servers, I get an error indicating that I have a service pack problem.
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Service pack requirement check:
Your upgrade is blocked because of service pack requirements. To proceed, apply the required service pack and then rerun SQL Server Setup. For more information about upgrade support, see the Version and Edition Upgrades topic in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
My SQL 2005 media was probably released before SP4 was released because the Setup Help indicates that you can directly upgrade from SP3, but makes no mention of SP4. I can't imagine there are any migration problems with it since I can't find any reference to it as a problem on any SQL Server sites... So... I'm left wondering what my problem really is...
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Recently when i try to upgrade my current MSDE 2000 (SP3a) to SP4, the system just keep on failing me. Here is the scenario:
1. Download the MSDE2000 SP4 from microsoft
2. Extract the SP4
3. Run the following command in either the command prompt or via a batch file:
echo off
echo "Start to Upgrade MSDE SP4 ... "
setup.exe /UPGRADESP SQLRUN INSTANCENAME=JSNG SECURITYMODE=SQL UPGRADEUSER=sa UPGRADEPWD=Th3B3st /L*v c:MSDE_Log.log
echo "SP4 Upgrade Process completed!"
4. Once the above batch file was runned, the standard SQL configuration screen (gathering information) will be triggered.
5. However after a while the installation will just stopped.
6. When i checked on the log, i have found out that the failure of installation is due to the system has failed to configure the server. PFB for the last few rows of the verbose log:
=== Logging stopped: 8/22/2006 17:36:49 ===
MSI (c) (90:88) [17:36:49:865]: Note: 1: 1729

MSI (c) (90:88) [17:36:49:865]: Grabbed execution mutex.

MSI (c) (90:88) [17:36:49:865]: MainEngineThread is returning 1603
=== Verbose logging stopped: 8/22/2006 17:36:49 ===
7. When i check the MSI Installer Event ID at Microsoft site, it just said that this is the server configuration problem and i cant find any solution.
Any forumers here experience the above before? Mind to share some thoughts?
FYI, my current MSDE configuration is as follow:
- MSDE 2000 Release A (SP3a - 8.00.760)
- Installed Instance = JSNG
Thanks.

We are getting a failure when upgrading to SP1 for SQL2005. We're running Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1. We're running 4 SQL 2005 instances and 6 SQL 2000 instances on this machine. One of the four 2005 instances did upgrade successfully - don't know how or why.
Looking at other postings, it seems that the 10 lines or so preceding "value 3" in the upgrade log file (under C:WINDOWSHotfixSQL9Logs) are helpful in diagnosing the problem.
Here are the lines preceding the value 3:

Hi there
I'm getting this message on my third automated backup of the transaction logs of the day. Both databases are in full recovery mode, both successfully backed up at 01.00. The transaction logs backed up perfectly happily at 01:30 and 05:30, but failed at 09:30.
The only difference between 05:30 and 09:30's backups is that the log files were shrunk at 08:15 (the databases in question are the ones that sit under ILM2007, and keeping the log files small keeps the system running better).
Is it possible that shrinking the log files causes the database to think that there hasn't been a full database backup?
Thanks
Jane

I used backup and restore to upgrade to sql 2005 from 2000. It went well but I didn't get the permissions change in time for the users to access the database today. The users were accessing the old server. I need to do another backup off the old server to the new server. Do I do a full backup to get the information for today's data or what? Will it restore a full backup override?

Hi everyone!
I start to get panic now after 10 hours of different ways of trying to
get my old database from my [Server1]* to my [Server2]*. When Im
trying with the "SQL Server Management Studio" that included in
the MSSQL 2005 but that just tells me it dosn't support any version
before MSSQL2000.. I've also tryed with some third part softwares
like EMS but no joy!... Its 5 databases from the old server that I MUST
get into the new one.. Anyone know howto do this?
[Server1]
Windows 2000
MSSQL7
[Server2]
Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2.
Includes MSSQL 2005 Premium edition.
Kind Regards

I have a database on one server that is running MSDE and I would like to copy it to another server running SQL Server Express.
The process I followed was to create a backup on the first server.
Copy the backup file to the other sever
Then restore using the backed database file on the new server
Is this the right procedure? Everything I see about migrating in on the same server. I do not want to do it on the same server as we are migrating the application to the new server.

Upgraded SQL Server 2005 x64 to Service Pack 1 expressly for the purpose of enabling Database Mail from SQL Job, which was a known bug that was listed as fixed in this Service Pack. It still does not work; in fact after installing SP1 on an x86 SQL Server Standard, Database Mail does not work from there now either, although it did prior to the upgrade! I am using Integrated Security.
Error message received: The job succeeded. The Job was invoked by User <name>. The last step to run was step 1 (Select). NOTE: Failed to notify 'Mike Schelstrate' via email.
Message in Error Log: [264] An attempt was made to send an email when no email session has been established.
Send test Email does work on both Servers.
Here is another Error message I found in the SQL Error Logs: [298] SQLServer Error: 2812, Could not find stored procedure 'msdb.dbo.xp_sqlagent_notify'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (DisableAgentXPs). Looks like this may be the root of the problem because it does not exist, I checked. How do I obtain this missing extended stored procedure?
