after i attached the file in package configurations .
i was unable to see the db connection in connection managers.
i tried to attach the .dtsconfig file in (New OLEDB connection manager) but after clicking the test connection " Testconnection failed because of an error in intializing provider. The connectionString property is not intialized"
I'm trying to easily change a value in 80 ssis configuration files from "localhost" to "myservername". I downloaded WinGrep to do this, but it's balking on some of the files, saying that they are binary files.
Does anyone know how to make the *.dtsconfig files NOT binary in SSIS?
Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated.
I won't go into the reason I have my servername in 80 places...
I was requested to build and move and existing SSIS package from the developers local PC to the Dev server. Both are running SQL 2K5, I built the following command file so SQL Agent can run the import job.
REM *** Run for FileImport set FileImportLoadData=C:SSISConfigDEVFileImportLoadData.dtsConfig "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinndtexec" /f "C:SSISConfigFileImportFileImportLoadData.dtsx"
All files are in the proper place but when the jobs runs the following message shows up in the history;

My questions is how do I fix this and is this really and error?
I use an XML configuration file for my SSIS package, and I have "Enable package configurations" checked. When I build the package, however, there is no dtsConfig file in the output (set to in) or the Deployment folder, and the config file is not included in the SSISDeploymentManifest file. There are no build errors or warnings.
This was working fine the last time I worked on this package (~9 months ago), but not now. I have since installed SP2, but can't confirm if the problem is related to a "fix" in SP2.

But then it goes on to read values from my Production config file. How can I stop the annoying warning about my Development config file-path (which doesn't exist on the Production machine)
I am migrating from local to Dev,QA and Prod. I created a .dtsconfig file containing database connection strings to Dev database. What is the "location" on the Dev server where this .dtsconfig file nees to be deployed to??
I have setup a package configuration and it ran fine; however, I would like to be able to use the script task to change content of the dtsConfig file. For example, I can get the newServerName using the SQL Task, then how can I assign the newServerName value to the DataSource in the package configuration file? Is this possible?
I've deployed my ssis pkg to the server and created a sql job to run this pkg. So far, everything is fine. Today, I got a request to change some variables inside the package which is part of the .dtsconfig.  I want to edit the deployed .dtsConfig but it won't allow me and always complained  that this file has been opened by another program. I am sure i've closed my ssis designer and other notpad, why can't I edit and save .dtsconfig file?
The problem that I am having is that with Visual Web Developer I am creating a webpage and having it directly put online, so for example when I start a new ASP.NET page, I select the location to be HTTP, with the location http://MYWEBSERVER/Website and for the language and Visual BasicI notice a couple of things, first that there is no longer a a link under the Main toolbar "Website" selection called the ASP.NET configuration. So how can I configure what I want to have users be able to do? It seems that this choice is only available if I am building the ASP.NET page on my "localhost". So that is the first problem. So I am able to get the pages to work, atleast the things such as the textboxes to show up etc, (Even things as advanced as the "Login" box). How ever when I try to get someone to try to login I am taken to a page that has an server error. The error is: "The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file. " The Stack Trace Errors are at the bottom. I think this is happening because the automatically generated databases are not getting built online as they are on my computer. On my computer I have MSSQL express. So either the databases are not getting built for some reason, (and I think that is the case as I don't see any in the folder). So I think that somehow I have to create a database on my server, and then somehow configure the ASP.NET file, perhaps in the Web.Config file to look for that new database. Is this the correct methodology? Is there some simpler way that I can just somehow upload things as they are and have them work correctly on my server? The error says that either the Server did not find the database or that the trust level was insufficient. I don't think that is it as I just looked again and I don't see any .MDF files. So how would I go about getting this to work right? Is there a way to do this with MySQL also? So that I don't have to use MSSQL? My server only allows 1 DataBase for that. Thanks and I hope my question makes sense. It is basically how can I get it to be able to create and check users etc. online? Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET. I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page. Anyone have any ideas why i am getting the above error? have searched many places on the internet and not getting any closer. Cheers ~ J

Database Connection - Don't have permission to open file
I'm trying to establish a connection to a database file (c: empMine.mdf) through visual studio c# express 2005 edition. I'm using the database explorer/add connection wizard. On the add connection dialog window when i browse and select the db file to connect to i'm getting the message "You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission"
I have SQL Server Express 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio Express installed. Within the management studio at the server security level i'm mapped to the db file (Mine.mdf) and have db_owner and public ticked and have also set the default database as Mine At the database security level under usersproperties i have also ticked db_owner. Also when i select properties for the db file itself it's telling me that i'm the owner.
I'm also using vista home premium edition and using windows authentication instead of sql server authentication.
I'm fairly new to all this so there may be something glaringly obvious i've missed!
Hi All, Please help me how to proceed from this situation, my requirement is to present (load) data in excel file and need to access (update/delete) it, the data which is in remote server; I want to connect database using odbc connection through ASP.NET. Please suggest me how to continue. Thanks to all in Advance. kolags@hotmail.com
I'm a newbie to SSIS so this question may cause people to point and laugh. I apologise if that's the case.
I have a configuration database that holds connection details to a remote database. I want to use these connection details to dynamically create a new connection to some remote database.
I usually work in with C# where this would be simple but I can't find how to do this using SSIS.
I have found people using configuration files but as I already have my connection data in a table I don't really want to strip it out. (Also, is it a security risk to have database connection strings stored in a config file?)
I have been able to implement a custom script object to build the connection string and assign it to a user variable within the package but can't find any way to then use that variable to connect to the remote database.
I have dozens of packages that work as follows (high level... not listing all the steps just those relevant to this question)
- Get list of files in directory
- Join list to list of already imported files
- Those not imported put into an ADO.Net object
- Loop through ADO.Net record (which contains the filename) and import each file.
I just set the connection string of the flat file to be the variable in the loop (expressions.. connection string). Pretty standard stuff. Now I tried to do the same with a file connection (not a flat file) becuase I have a source that is from a mainframe and I had to write a custom source script and its not working. Basically the source script uses
And it opens the same file over and over (not ever changing as the ConnectionString expression changes like it does for flat files) and imports it even though I have verified the loop is correctly looping through all the different files.
I added a connection (ADO.NET) object by name testCon in the connection manager - I wanted to programmatically supply the connection string. So I used the "Expressions" property of the connection object and set the connectionstring to one DTS variable. The idea is to supply the connection string value to the variable - so that the connection object uses my connection string.
Then I added a "Backup Database Task" to my package with the name BkpTask. Now whenever I try to set the connection property of BkpTask to the testCon connection object, by typing testCon, it automatically gets cleared. I am not able to set the connection value.
Then after spending several hours I found that this is because I have customized the connection string in testCon. If I don't customize the connection string, I am able to enter the "testCon" value in the connection property of the BkpTask.
yes,I have an error, like 'The database file may be corrupted. Run the repair utility to check the database file. [ Database name = SDMMC Storage Cardwinpos_2005WINPOS2005.sdf ]' .I develope a program for Pocket Pcs and this program's database sometimes corrupt.what can i do?please help me
When adding a SSIS DTSX package solution to Sourcesafe the SSIS Package Configuration file (.DTSConfig) is not included. We are using sourcesafe version 6.0d and Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Developers.
Hi, i'm new in this forum and in SSIS, so I apologize if mine is a stupid question and also for my english.
I have this problem: i have to develop an ETL package and i have to set the transformation between input and output columns using a configuration file, i.e. my client want to change the transformation simply modifying a config file( for example from UPPER to LOWER ).
I tried using dtsconfig and setting EvaluateAsExpression with value 1( true ) and Expression UPPER[Column 2] but i get an error saying that Column 2 is not a variable.
I have an SSIS package with a small number of connections for various databases, both SQL2K5 and AS2K5.
When I build the package the .dtsConfig file is produced but the contents for some of those connections are not accurate relative to the package itself. There are some old values retained in the .dtsConfig file.
Worse, when I deploy the package to another machine the installation should allow me to change these values to ones appropriate for the new server. While I am able to change them they are not retained and the old values crop back up making the package fail during execution.
Any idea where I can smack this thing to unstick these values?
Would specifics help? I can post the file(s) if need be.
Apologies if this has been posted before and feel free to point me to an existing thread if it has.
I currently have a dev, stage and live environment for a package
i have created a load.dtsconfig file that contains various bits such as connection strings, email to, from, etc which i created via the package configurations in the dev package. I then made a few changes via XML Notepad
I went to use the same config file on stage and decided to add a further property. I selected package configurations on stage and selected edit it the package configurations box, added the property and clicked finish. However it reset all the existing properties to the values that exist in the actual package so all the changes i made via XML notepad were overwritten.
Is there anyway you can get the Package configurations editor to retain the values from the .dtsconfig file rather than reading in the values from the package???
hi, all; i'd like to resolve this problem: We are Developing packages in Dev.Server; if we are Deploying our packages to Prod.Server; we need to modify the connection string and related properties of the connection manager. 1. How to modify the connection manager while deploying to production server? 2. can we create 2 dtsconfig file for a single package; is there any mechanism for instructing sequel server to use a particular dtsconfig file for our package.
i modified the config file in order to change the connection string. but its affecting only the config file not the package. while running the package its reffering the old connection string only.
hi i want to know what are the purposes of dtsconfig file for the package. once we deploy our package, if we want to modify the connection string for the new excel source or data source or destination, how to modify the connection details at client site, or in the server,
please help me to modify these connection details after or before deployment at server machine.
I am going thru the Integration Services Tutorial found in Books Online and I'm on Lesson 3. It has to do with creating a configuration file for the source file location. I followed the steps and now I need to open the .dtsConfig file and type in the folder location.
The exact direction says,
"
In Notepad or any other text editor, locate and open the SSISTutorial.dtsConfig configuration file that you created by using the Package Configuration Wizard in the previous task.
Change the value of the ConfiguredValue element to match the path of the New Sample Data folder that you created in the previous task. Do not surround the path in quotes.
Save the change, and then close the text editor. "
When I open the file, I see this. What am I supposed to do here?
Problem: ColA (Source) Rounding error to PARTY_NO (Destination) I have a field of text of in a flat file that the flat file connection manager Source picks up correctly €œ70000893€? However when it gets the OLE DB Connection Destination the data has changed to 70000896. That€™s before its even Written to the database. The only clue that something is wrong in the middle is the great Data viewer shows the number as 7.000009E+07 Other clues looking at the data it appears there is a rounding error on only the number that dont end in 00 ColA (Source) PARTY_NO (Destination) 71167300 71167296 70329000 70329000 70410000 70410000 Any ideas people? Thanks in advance Dave
it would be really useful. it looks like the .dtsconfig file needs to be maintained on each install independently. This makes maintenance a nightmare. it would be a lot nicer if the .dtsconfig files were more like templates rather than hard coded values to specific system resources.
When I edit package configuration files inside of Visual Studio, it puts all the XML on a single line. Does anyone know how to automatically spread the information onto multiple lines, to make comparing file differentials easier.
How to use Microsoft Data Link(Udl) type file to connect with SQL Server using SQL Native Client,If i use OLDEDB Connection i can make connection using UDL file with Database ,but how can i use a file for a connection using SQL Native Client. Is there any other data link file that can be used to connect with SQL server using SQL Native Client.
Hello Experts, I am createing one task (user control) in SSIS. I have property grid in my GUI and 2 buttons (OK & Cancle). PropertyGrid has Properties like SourceConnection, OutputConnection etc....right now I am able to populate Connections in list box next to Source and Output Property.
Now my question to you guys is depending on Source Connection it should read that text file associated with connection manager. After validation it should pick header (first line of text file bases on record type) and write it into new file when task is executed. I have following code for your reference. Please let me know I am going in right direction or not.. What should go here ? ->Under Class A
Hi there, I have inherited a databse and am building a new website to go wiht it. There is a file upload page which will upload images to a directory. I need to insert into the database retrieve the id just added then upload the image renaming it in the format locID(QueryString)_ImageID(retrieved from database).jpg The page has a file upload control and a button. I am trying to write my code behind so that when the button is clicked it inserts location id into the images table retrieves Image id. Renames the file and uploads it to the images folder. II think i need to call the routine from another routine for the button click but the signatures are different, where am i going wrong? or for that matter have i been pissing into the wind for the last 4 hours? I have a package A which is copied from another existing package B as most of the data structure and ETL mappings are same.
What I need to change in Package A is to change the file in Flat File Connection Manager. I can change it in the conneciton manager editor. However, it is automatically changed back to the previous one everytime when I try to Save All or run the package.
I also tried to copy/paste this Flat File Connection Manager in the same package but samething happen. The package file is not set 'Read Only" so anything else can Saved well except for the File name in connection manager.
Is this a bug? It would be very appreciated if anyone can give me any idea about this.
