Database Not Beeing Updated When Debugging PLEASE HELP
Mar 5, 2007
Hello
I am developing a windows forms app in Visual C# Express edition, it has a database, and when I am debugging, nothing is being done in the database, and I am sure it is nothing to do with the code. Because all I am doing is creating a database with one table, and just dragging the table (with the datagridview) onto a form, then it runs perfectly, but when I add or delete records, and exit the program, it is not reflected on my DB (which is a SQL Server express DB by the way),
I was looking everywhere, and all I could find was to change the "copy to output directory" propierty of the DB to "copy if newer" but still it doesn't work,
We have an asp web aplication using COM on a SQL Server 2000 database. The application uses COM to perform the database access. On altering data, the code checks the @@rowcount to see if the intented insert or update was succesfull - this is done on changes in various colums in various locations in the code. Now we need to add a trigger to update changed data into other tables. This is because we start migrating to a different data structure - while keeping most of the original code intact.
The problem is now, that the trigger beeing fired erases the @@rowcount. I can imagine others to have experienced the same problem. So, the big question is here:
Is there a solition/workaround to keep the @@rowcount on update/insert/deletes on a table evn if a trigger fires?

I have found that when I'm debugging a custom component in BIDS that I've created in another instance of Visual Studio, every time I rebuild the component I have to shutdown and restart BIDS and then reattach to the BIDS process. Which is pretty time consuming... And if I find a small error in my custom component when debugging then I don't seem to be allowed to make any changes to the code unless I stop debugging and go through the process above.
Am I missing something here? Or do I really have to manually go through these steps every time I want to change code in the component I'm debugging?
Can I automate the process with MSBuild or NAnt? If so, is there an example of this anywhere?
Hi guys, may I know is it possible to create an update trigger like this ? Assuming there are two database, database A and database B and both are having same tables called 'Payments' table. I would like to update the Payments records on database A automatically after Payments records on database B had been updated. I can't use replication because both tables might having different records and some records are the same. Hope can get any assistance here, thank you.
I am trying to debug a classic ASP application using Visual Web Developer Express and SQL Server Express editions. When my application tries to execute a stored procedure, I get the following error:
Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available.
Is there a way for me to trace queries that are getting executed in SQL Server Express so I can see which stored procedure is failing? I seem to remember being able to do this with SQL Server 2000. Any other ideas on how to debug SQL Server errors like these using SQL Server Express?
in the database, there is some information about the applicant: his name, his email, his status (accepted or rejected)....etc. the page that is shown to the administrator displays the applicant name and his status, when he changes any of the applicants status, an email is sent to that applicant. is there any way to do that? thanks in advance
Till yesterday every thing was fine....after i installed visual studio...god knws wat happnd dat it was not working, i did everything again but noe using my asp.net forms i am unable to write/edit/update the database, though i can view the same.....can any one suggest was might b d problem.
(i have set permissions for IUSER bot Read and Write)
I am making web application using Asp.net C#(Visual Studio2005). And Sql server 2000 as a back End.
Actually I am fetching data from other database(named as retailexcel but in same server). I have wriiten a view (in retailexcel database) to get required data from four table of other database. My problem is when I fetch those data(about 40000 to 50000 record) It taking to much time. I tried catch feature of asp.net2.0. Time reduced but not significantly. So I am trying to import those tables to my database (named Inventory) from that retailexcel.
Now problem is every day or two, record of those tables changes. How can I keep update my tables (which are importing from retailexcel)
I am trying to create a data dictionary for a huge application which has aroung 300 tables in the database....when i perform any operation in the application some tables are updated.... can you help me to find out how can we find out the last updated tables in the database ??
I have very little, to zero, IT configuration knowledge and I am hoping that someone is able to help me out.
I am currently writing the SQL scripts and developing the reports in the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio, and then deploying the reports to the server for managers to eventually view.
Recently the IT section updated the test database (temp) that is connected to SQL Server 2005, with the live database (production), so that the data and database structure were up to date for me to create the reports.
When the update was done, the connection to SQL Server failed, and the newly appointed IT person responsible for SQL does not know how to resolve the problem. Up until yesterday I was getting a message that said that the connection has failed and then today I have the following message (she has been trying very hard to get it working):
An error occurred during local report processing. An error has occurred during report processing. Query execution failed for dataset 'Division'. The SELECT permission was denied on the object 'Dim1', database 'payglobal', schema 'dbo'.
The reports that were deployed to the server prior to the update are still accessible however I am unable to review any reports I edit within the Development Studio. It has been out of action now for nearly two weeks.
Could someone please give me very detailed instructions on where the IT person should look, and what she should do to fix the problem. I will then pass these onto her.
I been asked recently in the interview thatHow can I detect changes automatically in the SQL Server Database when anything is updated, deleted or inserted?if anyone can help me in this that will be really great. I dont actually know whether I can ask this here but I wanted to know the answer for this and thought this might be right place to ask? sorry if I am wrong? Thanks in Advance
I am new to connecting to databases through java and in fact have not done much database programming although I am fairly good at SQL. I have used the MS JDBC driver to connect to a MS SQL server database but I want to update my application every time a record is added to the database and or alert the user. From what I have read, i assume that I can create a Trigger in java but how do I get my trigger to call a method / run java code?
Hi,I want to save the last modification date when the row is updated. I have a column called "LastModification" in the table, every time the row is update I want to set the value of this column to the current date. So far all I know is that I need to use a trigger and the GetDate() function, but could any body help me with how to set the value of the column to getdate()? thanks for your help.
Stepping thru the code with the debugger shows the dataset rows being deleted.
After executing the code, and getting to the page presentation. Then I stop the debug and start the page creation process again ( Page_Load ). The database still has the original deleted dataset rows. Adding rows works, then updating works fine, but deleting rows, does not seem to work.
The dataset is configured to send the DataSet updates to the database. Use the standard wizard to create the dataSet.
cDependChildTA.Fill(cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild, UserId); rowCountDb = cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild.Count; for (row = 0; row < rowCountDb; row++) { dr_dependentChild = cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild.Rows[0]; dr_dependentChild.Delete(); //cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild.Rows.RemoveAt(0); //cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild.Rows.Remove(0); /* update the Client Process Table Adapter*/ // cDependChildTA.Update(cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild); // cDependChildTA.Update(cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild); } /* zero rows in the DataSet at this point */ /* update the Child Table Adapter */ cDependChildTA.Update(cDependChildDs._ClientDependentChild);
I am using web service to synchronize data between SQL Server 2005 on a desktop and a SQL Server Mobile Edition on a mobile device.
Initially, when i added the data source to my mobile application, my .sdf only has 3 records. I am then supposed to retrieve 97 more records from the desktop server when my mobile application runs. After performing merging, I clicked (on my device emulator) on the .sdf deployed under my mobile application and the query analyzer showed all 100 records.
Does this mean my mobile database has been successfully updated with all 100 records? If not, how do I check that? The reason why I am asking this is that the file size of this .sdf with 100 records is still the same as the initial .sdf with only 3 records. How is this possible?
Am I missing anything or getting some concepts wrong? Please enlighten. Thanks.

We installed SP1 for SQL Server 2014 this past weekend and got this error message in the logs. I found that if you set the db to read-write, it updates the system objects, even after SP1 has completed. Then you can set it back to read-only. I'm just posting this so other people can find it on the internet, as I wasn't able to find it specifically.
Error Log Entry:System objects could not be updated in database 'x' because it is read-only.
Problem: After installing SP1 for SQL Server 2014 you will find this message in the error logs saying read-only databases could not be updated.
Solution: Simply set the db to read-write and the system objects will get updated, long after SP1 was installed.
ALTER DATABASE [x] SET READ_WRITE WITH NO_WAIT
Then set it back to read-only:
ALTER DATABASE [x] SET READ_ONLY WITH NO_WAIT
You should then see these log entries:
System objects could not be updated in database 'x' because it is read-only. Setting database option READ_WRITE to ON for database 'x'. Starting up database 'x'. CHECKDB for database 'x' finished without errors on 2015-07-25 01:02:28.143 (local time). This is an informational message only; no user action is required. I have finished a change request from our client. I need to update clients' database with the one in developments. Here is the changes i made to database:Added/Changed some tablesAdded/Changed some stored proceduresAdded data to some dictionary tableThe data in clients' current database MUST be kept. So how can I merge the changed information to clients' database?
I need to step into a SP on my SQL server. However, I get "Security hasn't been setup correctly on server RADU. SQL debugging terminated."
I read the docs, and I did exactly this (as per the help files):
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To configure DCOM on the server for SQL debugging
You may need to download and install DCOM first. If so, go to http://www.microsoft.com/com/resources/downloads.asp for the latest version.
You must have administrator privileges on the machine where you are configuring DCOM.
From the Start menu, choose Run. In the Open box, type dcomcnfg.exe. Click OK. The Component Services dialog box appears.
In the left pane of the Component Services dialog box, expand the Component Services node and find Computers. Expand the Computers node and find the computer for which you want to configure DCOM. Right-click the computer and choose Properties from the shortcut menu. In the Properties dialog box, select the Default COM Security tab. Under Access Permissions, click Edit Default. The Access Permission dialog box appears.
If the group or user who needs access does not appear in the list of permissions, click Add. The Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box appears.
In the Enter the object names to select box, type the name of the group or user who needs access. Click OK. The user is now added to the list.
If SYSTEM does not appear in the list of permissions, click Add. The Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box appears.
In the Enter the object names to select box, type: SYSTEM Click OK. SYSTEM is now added to the list.
In the Access Permission, select Allow for each user you added. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box. If you changed any settings in this procedure, restart SQL Server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
However, from inside VSnet IDE. I get the same message ("Security hasn't been setup correctly blah-blah-blah").
I have tried with users 'ASPNet' and 'VSDevelopers'. Which user should I choose ? Is there something else I should do ?
Sure, this is not the end of the world, I can still do the debug from within Query Analyzer, but still, it would be nice not to have to do this.
Does anyone use SQL debugging? I write pocedures in SQL server useing Developper studio, but i do not find any means to debug stored procedures. Though i can place a break point to source code of sp_procedure, code is runned a whole. Is this means only for C++? Can anyone help me? I have very large procedures and someteimes it is hard to find an error.

My colleagues and I have not been able to successfully set up SQL debugging on a SQL 2000 instance running on Windows 2000.Is there a checklist posted somewhere? We have verified that the SQL Server is not running with System Account Credentials. It runs as a Domain Administrator. We have also verified that everyone has permission to run sp_sdidebug. Does it matter that the Win2K machine is a Domain Controller? Any help would be appreciated.
I am new to SSIS but not new to ETL. Is there a way in debugger to debug but not actually update the target table ? In other tools I€™ve used, there was an option setting to not allow update/inserts into the actual table, but would provide a visual dataset so you could see & test with. I haven€™t been able to find this feature in SSIS & was wondering if there is a way to do this.
Hi, I am new here. I tried to debug stored procedures in the Visual Studio and you know… it was a real shock. Like going in time 10 or 20 years back. The stored procedures I deal with contain a lot of @tab and #tab, but it appears that I can not evaluate the values of these objects! The only type of object I can evaluate is a variable. But SQL is designed for the table data, right? So the most important type of data is not accessible! How can I understand, what records have been affected by Update or inserted by Insert? Using prints or debug selects? Is it an era of FORTRAN or ALGOL??? To make it worse, to enter a debugger, I need to provide values of all parameters. It might be simple for the outermost procedure, but for inner stored procs, and where some parameters are some short-living identity values of some records, created in a transaction, it is very difficult to prepare all conditions to make a correct run. So my question is, may be I had overlooked something? Is it a real debugger or just a joke from Microsoft? Sorry, but I am really angry after wasting a lot of time last week on it.
I have a script that works in works in Query Analyzer, but when I try to put it in a DTS package, it fails. I have the database set properly in the data source. Can someone give me direction to figure out what is going on?
