on how to add databound images into a report header.
The issue I am encountering is exporting to PDF. If the report spans multiple pages, in PDF the image only shows up on the first page..and broken on all other pages.
I have tied the hidden image to the table that spans multiple pages. Shows ok in HTML but breaks when exported.
After finding out that SSRS doesn't directly support databound items in the header or footer, I found the workaround from Microsoft yesterday at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159677.aspx. The problem is that their solution only works for the first page of the report, so it's basically useless! Because this is an image, it also means the workaround of using a parameter doesn't work, either.
Does anybody have any advice? Is there a solution to this problem?
Adding a Databound Image to a Header or Footer You can use image data stored in a database in a header or footer. However, you cannot reference database fields from the Image control directly. Instead, you must add a text box in the body of the report and then set the text box to the data field that contains the image (note that the value must be base64 encoded). You can hide the text box in the body of the report to avoid showing the base64 encoded image. Then, you can reference the value of the hidden text box from the Image control in the page header or footer.
For example, suppose you have a report that consists of product information pages. In the header of each page, you want to display a photograph of the product. To print a stored image in the report header, define a hidden text box named TXT_Photo in the body of the report that retrieves the image from the database and use an expression to give it a value:
I need some help. I am writing a report in SSRS 2005 that I then need to export to Excel. When I put a report header I would expect the header to not display in the Excel spreadsheet until the Print Preview or the Print. The report footer works just fine I put some text in the footer, and it shows up in the footer. The header though, shows up as a row in the Excel spreadsheet that then causes columns to merge. How do I get the report header to act like a page header?
I am unable to display report header when I deploy the reports on report server (Internet). However, they look perfect when previewed in the BI studio. Any clue where could be the problem?
Does anyone know of a way to keep from exporting a page header when rendering in Excel. We have a default header (title and logo) that I would like to suppress so that users don't need to delete the rows prior to sorting (to eliminate merged cells).
Is there a way to avoid exporting the page header to Excel (or any other renderer). My reports seem to lose their charm without the headers (setting Print on First/Last Page to false), and at the same time, the users don't want the headers exported to Excel.
I have a sum on a reportitems cell in my header: =Sum(ReportItems!textbox1.Value)
When I run the report, it looks excellent. My issue is when I export it. When I export to Excel, it looks just like it did. When I export to PDF, it gives me a total per page, not for the report.
Does ReportItem behave differently when rendered between excel and PDF? Or is it because I am putting a SUM on a ReportItems cell?
Well im new at this SSIS stuff and i have something that i am trying to do, but cannot get it to work.. Ill try to explain, and if anyone can help me or point me in the right direction it would be much appriciated..
I have 2 tables, one header table. and one lines table. This is a one - to -many relationship.. ie 1 header, many lines.. This is a Order Header, and Order Lines table setup.. Order header has Order numbers and and email address field that link to the lines table by order number. I also have a view which links all this info together.
I would like to export a excel file (preferable named from the order number column - but that can come later) for each order number in the header table. The excel file will contain the details from the View that was created. I want this to loop through all the header records in the header table and create a excel file for each one..
Down the track i want to add a send mail task to this and pass the email address to a variable so i can use it in the send mail task.. But ill get the main part working first..
Anyhelp would be more than helpful.. I tried to set this up, but i am stuck on the enumerator part..
There was a requirement to have the table header as part of frozen rows in excel when exported because there are about 1000 rows in the report and the column header has to be retained during scrolling. Since only page headers will be frozen in excel export, the text boxes was copied from the table header row to the page header. After all text boxes were copied, the table header row was removed. After modifying the report, I noticed that the excel export report took more than half an hour for exporting the data. I tried to reproduce the problem in a sample and I was able to reproduce it using AdventureWorks data source. This report before modifying takes 1 minutes to export. After moving all the column headers to page header, it takes 25 minutes to export. Has anybody faced this issue and is there any solution for this performance problem? Thank you. Here are the steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new data source for AdventureWorks database 2. Create a new report with the AdventureWorks data source and with the query 'SELECT * FROM Person.Contact' 3. Run the report and export in excel format and note down the time taken for the same - Approx it will less than a minute. 4. Open the report layout and include a page header (Report->Page Header) and move the title from body to the page header. 5. Select each column header, copy the cell and paste in the page header and align it with the column in the body. Alternatively, a new textbox for each column can be created and arranged in the page header. (As a result, there are 16 textboxes in the page header). 6. Now, run the report and export in excel format and note down the time taken and please notice that it takes 25 minutes. 7. Delete some of the text boxes in the page header, the excel export takes less time and is dependent on the number of textboxes in the page header.
Just attempting to import a simple tab delimited text file into my SQL Server 2005 database using the SQL Server Import and Export wizard. Column names are specified within the first line of the file. The Header Rows to Skip field value is listed as 0, but the wizard indicates that "The field, Header rows to skip, does not contain a valid numeric value".
Why isn't zero (0) a valid numeric value? I don't want to skip any rows. PLUS, I get the same error when trying to export to a text file although the header rows to skip field does not exist. I can increase the number to 1 or more, but the wizard will skip part of my data .. unacceptable.
What am I missing here? I installed SP1 of SQL server 2005, but that did not help.
Does anyone know of a way to improve the quality of an image when exporting a SSRS report to PDF? I have an embedded image that when exported to PDF looks very bad (i.e. grainy, dull). I have tried various different image file types (i.e. jpg, png, gif) and DPI's to no avail.
I know that Acrobat uses compression on images and will degrade the resolution of images in order to keep files sizes small and facilitate faster printing, however, these settings can be overridden. Also, I've read that using Acrobat Distiller to generate a PDF will not degrade the image. Are there any comparable settings in SSRS that will improve image quality?
I've tried specifying the DPI (thinking that the image DPI was being degraded by default) by passing the following deviceInfo string to the Render method but this did not work:
I have a SSRS report developed in SQL 2012. When I exporting the report into word the back ground colour of page header missing. When Exporting to PDF and Excel page header BG colour showing.
I have a table with an IMAGE datatype. Without using xp_cmdshell and bcp, is it possible to get this image to disk? We do have the OLE procedures enabled so I can use those to create in instance of the Scripting.FileSystemObject and write to disk but how do I convert the image datatype to something I can store on disk and it actually be a readable format? If it helps, we only store this particular field in JPEG format in the database.
Hi-I have a sql database (2005) that I need to extract a report from that looks somehintg like SELECT * From Empl_Hours WHERE some_flag <> 'true' .The thing works fine, but the problem is this: I need to insert a record in the 1st row that looks like "Static_text"+row_count() +"more_static_text"where row_count is the actual # of rows that were retrieved. Thanks in advance for any help.DAn
When i view the Report from SSRS Report preview Tab it's working fine, But when i deploy that and try to view in the IE I am seeing the Body background color in between the image and page border of the page footer how to solve that?
How to display the logo in middle of report header , The logo is embedded in the Image folder . The column of the report  are static. we are using SSRS 2008
For the past couple of days I've been having an issue with Reporting Services. From what I can understand reporting services doesn't work well when exporting to word.
The scenario is quite simple, I am developing a report for a client with a 'master page', which works as the cover, and executes 2 sub-reports with one table each, nothing fancy. We don't export this report to pdf, because the internal client has to attach another report that is impossible to automate, so they generate that report via excel and integrate it on our word document before sending the document to their business partners.
Our main problem is that we can't export the header/footers to word.
Hello All,I am stuck on a task that I need to complete. What I have is a SQL 2005DB running with a Table called Docs. The table structure consists ofthe following:Table Structure for Docs------------------------------------DocID int - Primary KeyClientID int - CustomerIDCreatedByUser nvarchar - UserNameCreatedDate datetime - Date of Document stored in SQL DBContent image - Bytes of actually documentContentType nvarchar - (application/msword)ContentTypeImage nvarchar - Path to Image of Document Type(such asword.gif")ContentSize int - Size of DocumentFriendlyName nvarchar - Name of DocumentWhat I want to do is create a query to export all documents from theSQL DB to a local folder on the server or even my local pc. Can this bedone? Thanks
I have a server report which made by ssrs 2005, I am using vs 2005 to build an aspx page and call this report which already uses dynamic query. I use parameters and send these to reportviewer with setparameter method. I dont use DataBind and Refresh method. SetParameter is enough to generate Report. When report generates everything is fine. But when i export this report to excel the pictures in this report get smaller to fit in cell height. I used rendering extensions but its same.
And i used copy contents of reportviewer and paste it to excel file. There is interesting case here. If this is the first time that i run the report and copy and paste. No image is seen in excel workseet but other report elements is fine. But if i click on refresh button on reportviewer toolbar and report regenerates, i try to copy and paste and it works fine, and if i dont close ie window copy and paste progress works good and i dont need to click on refresh button on each report to copy and paste?
This is so interesting subject, i tried lots of things for example i tried to use databind and ServerReport.Refresh methods maybe it acts like clicking on refresh button but this wasnt the same only difference is it took more time to generate the report.
Help, I have a simple app that only has on datagrid that is bound by the typical sqlconnection, sqldataadapter and dataset. But I keep getting this error: Login failed for user '(null)'. im trying to display all of the results from a SQL database where the username is the same as the current user.currently, i have a long way around way of implementing this. i have a dropdownbox with a static entry (set at the page load) of the users name. i then tried to databind the gridview to the database and use the dropbox as the variable. however, for some reason, it doesnt acknowledge the username field and it doesnt return anything. i think this is because the dropbox is a static entry, but why does that matter? here is my current code: <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowPaging="True" AllowSorting="True" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource3" EmptyDataText="There are no data records to display."> </asp:GridView> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource3" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:pas_db_connectionstring %>" ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:pas_db_connectionstring.ProviderName %>" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [files] WHERE ([submitter] = @submitter)"> <SelectParameters> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="usernameDropBox" DefaultValue="none" Name="submitter" PropertyName="SelectedValue" Type="String" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource> please understand that i am trying to set the @submitter variable equal to the current user's username. thx
Ive run into a situation where some code im using will not function the same when between these two cases. So, this has me wondering what is going on behind the scenes. What is the sequence of events that are occurring that would possibly be messing things up.Here is the sample codeIts a gridview that is using a sqldatasource control. The code works fine, but if you want to bind the grid to a dataset and call databind yourself, things dont work as expected and the other features that the code performs just isnt happening, at least not for me.
I am making a book-like report, I am using a report that has a header and calling a sub-report that has it's own header. However the sub-report header is not showing on the parent report. Parent report header is prevailing over the sub-report. Is it possible to have both headers displaying?
I have a report that I created and the report was working until I added some fields to a group footer row in a table.
My table has 5 group levels. I had information displaying in the 5th level header group and detail. It was working fine. Then I added some fields to the 4th level group footer. Now it displays only the Page header, Table header, and the 4th level group footer data.
What happened to the rest of the data?
All the cells and rows I want to display have the Visibility Hidden set to false. I tried removing the objects I added (to the 4th level group footer) and it still does not work. Is this a bug or did I set something that is hiding the data.
There is a one header in the report, when I publish and hit the report in IE(internet explor) the header appears fine on first page when I go to next page this header does not appear.
But in mozilla the header is visible on every page of the report. so it is working fine in mozilla.
I've built a fairly straight forward report in RS that looks normal in preview mode and in PDF format with out any issues. But when I export it to Excel report header is not appearing in each page.Any ideas as to why this is occurring?thanks in advance,Ramesh KS
I am using the 3-tiered architecture design (presentation, business laws, and data acess layers). I am stuck on how to send the image the user selects in the upload file control to the BLL and then to the DAL because the DAL does all the inserts into the database. I would like to be able to check the file type in the BLL to make sure the file being uploaded is indeed a picture. Is there a way I can send the location of the file to the BLL, check the filetype, then upload the file and have the DAL insert the image into the database? I have seen examples where people use streams to upload the file directly from their presentation layer, but I would like to keep everything seperated in the three classes if possible. I also wasn't sure what variable type the image would be in the function in the BLL that receive the image from the PL. If there are any examples or tips anyone can give me that would be appreciated.
