Dataset Not Putting Text In Right Place..is There A Better Control?
Jun 4, 2008
The dataset2 control doesn't seem to want to place the text in the right spot. I put it right after the 1st Dataset and the user comments wound up all the way down in the footer of the site. I want them to appear in the white area just underneath the article text.
Here's a link to one of my articles so you can see this.
Down at the bottom left corner you'll see white space below the article. I'd like to have all the comments lined up going down the page. Is the dataset the best control for this task?
Hello, I created this DataTable, add rows of data to it, and then display the data on to a form via a repeater. Dim ds As DataSet = New DataSetDim dtTableName As DataTable = New DataTable("dtTableName") dtTableName.Columns.Add("Description")dtTableName.Columns.Add("ItemNumber")dtTableName.Columns.Add("Quantity")dtTableName.Columns.Add("Price")ds.Tables.Add(dtTableName) What I need to do now is create a table in SQL Server and update the database with the data I've collect in my dataset. How do I bind and update this data to a sql server table? Thanks!James
How can I program BCP to output text items in double quotes (")? Here is an example (please try it) that trys to output some columns from a table to csv file. However, due to the existence of commas within the fields, the comma separation gets messed up.
------------------------------------ USE [MASTER]
IF EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM sysobjects WHERE name = 'mcg1') DROP TABLE mcg1 go
CREATE TABLE mcg1 (pkINT IDENTITY(1,1) ,Address_1VARCHAR(100) ,CityVARCHAR(100)) go
Exec Master..xp_Cmdshell 'bcp "SELECT Address_1, City FROM mcg1" queryout "C:mcg1.csv" -c -t,"'
------------------------------------ The output I get is below. You can see how the use of commas in the text makes the comma separate list all confused 100 Road1, Suburb1,BigCity1 200 Road2, Suburb2,BigCity2
Thus what I want is "100 Road1, Suburb1","BigCity1" "200 Road2, Suburb2","BigCity2"
You can do this OK in DTS by specifying the text identifier to be double-quotes. I do NOT want to use DTS and want to be able to do via a T-SQL procedure. Note that the real table I will export from has numeric datatypes and I would prefer NOT to wrap them in double-quotes too.
Thus, how can I alter the Exec Master..xp_Cmdshell command, to wrap each text field in double quotes. I may have to use a format file in which case please provide the format file too.
Hello, I'm pretty new to SSIS but so far what I have is a package that exports a SQL Server table to a text file. I needed to add a dynamic header that had the date and time of creation. Now I need to know how many records are being exported and put that number into the header.
For the header I am using a script task in the control flow which works well to put the creation date in the header. The script runs and writes the header and then the data flow exports and appends the records to the same text file. It seems to me since the script runs before the data flow I won't know the amount of records until after the data flow is done.
Maybe I could write the header after the data is gathered but before it is exported. Can anyone make some suggestions?
Basically the text file would be:
2/6/2008 154 Data Data Data ...
the 154 would be the total number of records to follow.
While I'm at it can someone tell me how to access the destination file path in the flat file connection? Right now I'm just hardcoding the path into my script.
please help newbieI need to create a lot of objects the same type (let's say: schemas)I wish to use paramerized block in loop to do so.- how to put names of my objects to such control-flow?belss you for help
i have another problem with my library... i create a library with a datagridview, that i polute manually from several database querys... thats just fine.... works excelent.. but if i browse the aspx page from another computer on the network, when the code tries to read the data set give me an error Cannot find the table 0 seems like a problemwith the connection or the query, but if i browse the page from the localmachine i works just fine
please help Public MM_CONEXION_STRING As String = "server=HP001SQL2000;uid=xxx;pwd=xxxxx;database=GSSDOTNET;"Dim myConnection As New SqlConnection(MM_CONEXION_STRING)Dim myCommand As New SqlCommand(SQL, myConnection) myConnection.Open()Dim objDS As New System.Data.DataSet() objDS=myCommand.ExecuteReader()For Each FILA As System.Data.DataRow In objDS.Tables(0).Rows ....... Does anyone know how to reference the ongoing dataset within the dataflow in sql?
So here is the scenario I have.
1) OLE DB SOURCE 2) Lookup a value and that column gets added to the dataset 3) Lookup another value but this time I would rather code the sql rather than select a referencing table. How do I reference the current dataset?
I am trying to upload a file in ASP.net 2.0 to a SQL database using the FileUpload control. I am doing this by way of a typed dataset.Here is my code.Dim rta As New ResponseTableAdapterDim rdt As ResponseDataTable = rta.GetResponseByID(1)Dim rr As ResponseRow = rdt(0)Dim fs As New FileStream(fu.PostedFile.FileName, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)Dim br As New BinaryReader(fs)Dim image() As Byte = br.ReadBytes(fs.Length)br.Close()fs.Close()rr.UploadFile = imagerr.NameFile = fs.Namerta.Update(rdt)The code runs without an error but afterwards I find that nothing has been stored in the UploadFile cell in the database but the file name has been stored in the NameFile cell in the database. Any ideas?Your help is much appreciated. James
Ive run into a situation where some code im using will not function the same when between these two cases. So, this has me wondering what is going on behind the scenes. What is the sequence of events that are occurring that would possibly be messing things up.Here is the sample codeIts a gridview that is using a sqldatasource control. The code works fine, but if you want to bind the grid to a dataset and call databind yourself, things dont work as expected and the other features that the code performs just isnt happening, at least not for me.
I have used my parameter value in where clause of my dataset control SQL query. When I choose a single value in my multiple-value parameter then I get output as expected. Hovewer when I choose multuple values I get an arror:
Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS. ---------------------------- Query execution failed for dataset 'DATABASE'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand) ---------------------------- An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
I am convinced that it's a syntax problem. Is there a way I can change syntax of data output from query:
select @parameter
I need output to be like: value, value, value ... etc.
The dataset control query looks something like the following:
select ID, a, b, c, d from DATASET.dbo.Table where ID in (select @parameter)
I have been searching through google for weeks to solve this and got this far and got stuck. Is it possible at all to achieve what I am looking for?
Hi, I have a really simple question. I have a web form with a couple text boxes and check boxes. I want to get data from my DB and set the values to the controls. Right now this is how my code looks: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dim cmdSelect As Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand Dim CnDB As Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection Dim strSQL As String 'Build Select StatementstrSQL = "Select LoginName, UserName, [Status] " & _ "FROM SmallToolSystemUser " & _"WHERE LoginName = '" & strLoginName & "' " & _ "AND UserID = " & intUserID & " " 'I must take the connection string and put it back in the web.config file. For now i am having problems getting it from thereCnDB = New Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=ORION;Initial Catalog=eisTEST;Persist Security Info=false;User ID=User;Password=password") Try CnDB.Open()Catch ex As Exception Response.Write("Cannot open the database connection ") Exit Sub End TrycmdSelect = New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand(strSQL, CnDB) cmdSelect.CommandType = Data.CommandType.Text ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am a classic ASP guy so I am used to recordset and old text1.text = RS("value") approach. I have done some work in ASP.Net 1.0 and my code in there used datareaders. Can someone give me some guidance here.
I would like to get in the textbox all the cutomer name seperated by ",".
Is the same as I can use join(Parameters!CustomersName.Value,",") but I need to do that from the data set and not from the parameters since I don't have parameters for my customer name
with the help of the following code am able to read the text file now i need to insert values to the datatable in dataset can anybody help me on this regard
how shall i spilt them and add each value to two fields of the datatable
for example i have the fields in text file as Username1:Password1 Username2:Password2 etc i need to add the username seperatelt to a field called username in table and password in password field of the datatable an example with code would be better and helpful
I am working on an SSIS project where I create two flat files for submission to a data contractor. This contractor requires a control record be the first line in the file. I create the control record based on the table information being exported.
What I would like to know is, is it possible to utilize the Header Section of the Flat File Destination Editor to insert the control record? And, as it is dynamic, what kind of coding must I do in order to utlise this functionality?
I have a VS 2005 Web Appplication solution that uses SQL Server Reporting Services 2005. One of the projects is a Report Server Project. In this project I have an RDL file that has: 1.)a non-shared XML DataSource (no credentials), 2.)a DataSet with a Command Type of Text and a Query String that is as follows: <Query> <XmlData> <Root> <LOAD LOAD_ID_PREFIX="" LOAD_ID="" TRUCK="" DIAGRAM=""/> </Root> </XmlData> </Query>
3.)a field that comes from the Database that is of VarBinary(Max) that is a JPEG Image
What happens is, is that by doing #2 above, at design time I can create tables and hook into my datasets and get the report all designed out the way I want. Then at runtime, I have a Stored Procedure that uses the "FOR XML AUTO" option so that I can represent my results from the database in an XML fashion which will allow me to replace the XML Schema in between the Root tags above (in #2) with my actual data (which still has the same schema). I then save the modified RDL to a database table field and move on to happily ever after......in this case, not. In this case, since an VarBinary is involved, unless I want to get a pointer back for the Diagram Column, I have to use the "FOR XML AUTO, BINARY BASE64" option. This returns an Encoded string to represent the Binary value that was in the Database....and this is the partial source of my angst....read on.
My approach that I described above worked flawlessly in all cases where an image wasn't involved. This report is the only report in the whole system I am working on that will have an image and it is the last one being done, so that's why I didn't run into this earlier.
I have tried all kinds of things at different levels, but the thing that I have tried that seemed to me to have the most potential was to use Embedded Code to take the Encoded ASCII Value and convert into something binary that the SSRS Reporting Engine likes (so my image will show), but I have been unsuccessful thus far. The error message I keep getting now from my Embedded Function is: "Invalid length for a Base-64 char array", which I have not been able to resolve thus far....and I do know that the Binary value in the database is good becuase I can see it in pages in my application otherwise.
This aside, is there anyone out there that knows how to take the value of a VarBinary(Max) field and insert it into the Text (XML) DataSet in the markup of an RDL file....and have it appear correctly when the report is rendered in something like the standard Report Viewer Control (or even when being previewed at design time inside of Visual Studio for that matter)?
Just to be clear, the root of my problem, as I see and understand it, is that I have a VarBinary value in a database that is being converted to a string (ASCII...I am presuming) due to how I am writing my stored procedure and then needs to go back to something else binary that the SSRS Engine will accept so that I can see my Image in the report when I render it.
I am wishful that someone out there understands my problem and has run into this and has a solution......but I am wishful of winning the lottery, too, and that hasn't happened yet...............
Hi All, I am placing a Matrix inside the table control for grouping requirements,but when we export the report to the Excel, the contents inside the table cell are ignored. Is there any way to get the full report exported, as per the Requirement.Please help me with this issue.
I have a report with multiple datasets, the first of which pulls in data based on user entered parameters (sales date range and property use codes). Dataset1 pulls property id's and other sales data from a table (2014_COST) based on the user's parameters. I have set up another table (AUDITS) that I would like to use in dataset6. This table has 3 columns (Property ID's, Sales Price and Sales Date). I would like for dataset6 to pull the Property ID's that are NOT contained in the results from dataset1. In other words, I'd like the results of dataset6 to show me the property id's that are contained in the AUDITS table but which are not being pulled into dataset1. Both tables are in the same database.
I have a small number of rows in a dataset, Table 1. There is a CLOB on a large dataset, Table 2. They join on a PK. I would like to retrieve this CLOB and add it to the data flow for Table1. In short I want to emulate the following:
Table 1: Small table without CLOB, 10 rows. Table 2: Large table with CLOB, 10,000,000 rows
select CLOB from table2 where pk = (select pk from table1)
I want this to return the CLOBs for the small number of rows in Table 1. The PK is indexed obviously so it should be a fast look up.
Table 1 and Table 2 live on different Oracle databases. How do I perform this operation efficiently in SSIS? It seems the Lookup and Merge Join wont do this.

I found out the data I need for my SQL Report is already defined in a dynamic dataset on another web service. Is there a way to use web services to call another web service to get the dataset I need to generate a report? Examples would help if you have any, thanks for looking
Hi, I have a stored procedure attached below. It returns 2 rows in the SQL Management studio when I execute MyStorProc 0,28. But in my program which uses ADOHelper, it returns a dataset with tables.count=0. if I comment out the line --If @Status = 0 then it returns the rows. Obviously it does not stop in if @Status=0 even if I pass @status=0. What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated.
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[MyStorProc]
(
@Status smallint,
@RowCount int = NULL,
@FacilityId numeric(10,0) = NULL,
@QueueID numeric (10,0)= NULL,
@VendorId numeric(10, 0) = NULL
)
AS
SET NOCOUNT ON
SET CONCAT_NULL_YIELDS_NULL OFF
If @Status = 0
BEGIN
SELECT ...... END If @Status = 1 BEGIN SELECT...... END
I'm pretty new to SQL and I've got a bit of a sticky problem. I've looked around on the net for a solution but possibly I just don't know what I should be searching on. I'm trying to join tables together where there is a one to many releationship - but I'm trying to put the results for each relationship on one row (which kind of results in dynamic columns).
Is this possible? There is no limit on how many rows in table 2 can be related to table 1. Can anyone point me in the right direction for what I should be looking at?
The reason I'm trying this is for SQL reporting services if that makes a difference? Thanks, Kelvin.
UPDATE #2: When it said "Do you want to install Microsoft SQL Server" I said "yes" and that caused it to work. I exited and re-ran and now the print runs w/o the "install SQL Server" (If the prompt had said "Do you want to install the print dialog" we wouldn't be having this discussion...)
UPDATE: After posting this i discovered that the same thing occurs when attempting to print the report direct from IE6: First a dialog pops up "Do you want to install this software?" Name: Microsoft SQL Server. When I click "Don't Install" I get the dialog "unable to load client print control." Since this happens direct from IE6 I suspect it's browser settings. I'll resume tomorrow and post a followup.
My WinForm C# app integrates Reporting Services by calling them from WebBrowser controls. The problem is attempts to print cause a dialog: "unable to load client print control."
I've read prior posts that say "enable Active-X in your browser" - I don't know how to do that from a WebBrowser control.
Any ideas how to support Reporting Services "Print" from within a WebBrowser control?
Hi all, I have a asp .net 1.1 application running on the intranet which uses SQL Server 2000. The application is in production and everytime I want to do some changes, i do the changes on my development machine then I copy the application dll on the server. The problem is that I'm using Stored Procedures for all my Select, Insert and Delete statements. These stored procedures are live on the server so I can't do the modifications locally and test them then copy to the server.
How can I do modifications without affecting the production server and the users ??? thanks.
I just want to get the sum of a table's column into a variable, in a stored procedure. The best I can do is SET @TotalBalance = SELECT SUM(Balance) FROM AccountDetails Not good enough, of course.
