Datasource Reader - Name For Output Column Is Blank.

Hi,
I have a problem using the odbc datasource reader to execute a sql command on a progress database. My query is something like:-
select max(id), sum(amount) from my_table
OR
select a, b, c, recid(my_table) from my_table
which produces external columns and output columns with no name. The progress sql doesn't support using aliases on column names and setting validateexternalmetadata to false and manually naming the input and output parameters in the 'Advanced Editor' doesn't seem to work either. I either get the error 'The name for output column "" is blank and columns can not be blank' or if I add my own column names in the input and output parameters it fails in the pre-execute phase saying it can't find a column in the datasource with name 'myalias'
I can get around the aggregate functions by transfering all the data and doing the aggregate on the local server but I also need to call functions such as recid() which I can't work around. SQL2000 DTS ignored these things and matched as best it could where SQL 2005 IS seems overly strict.
Has anyone encountered similar problems and does anyone have any ideas? I'm currently at a loss :(

I am trying to do incremental extract using Datasource reader.
I need to send a variable in where condition to extract the data base on the max date from other table.
To implement this i have created two variables
1)to get the max date from the table.
2)to store the sql query and send the mad date from other variable to extract the data.
i have give this sql variable in data flow expression.but its not working.
can any one tell me where i am going wrong.

I have a SSIS package that pulls fact data from Progress 10.1B database. Midway through the pull (around 10,000 records), it bombs out with the following error. I have'nt a clue as to what it means. Could someone help me out? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
maybe you can help me with a little SSIS task. I want to fetch some wmi infos from serveral servers with the wmi reader. to read something is no problem, but whats the best way to bring them to a table or the control flow? Read from the generated file cant be a way. I also tried the variable. How do I get them to data flow. I tried a script task but i cant read the resultset. What format has the variable? ado.net, ado?
Whats the best way to get the results into a table?

As you see in the images the connection is closing. During the read it counts 5 columns which is correct. When I step through the code it closes the connection when it hits dt.Load(reader) and nothing is loaded into the datatable.

Is there a way to check for System.BDNull when I use the column name instead of column index? The column Photographer (in the excample below) sometimes contains the value null, and then it throws an error. I am working on an OLAP modeled database.
I have a Lookup Transformation that matches the natural key of a dimension member and returns the dimension key for that member (surrogate key pipeline stuff).
I am using an OLE DB Command as the Error flow of the Lookup Transformation to insert an "Inferred Member" (new row) into a dimension table if the Lookup fails.
The OLE DB Command calls a stored procedure (dbo.InsertNewDimensionMember) that inserts the new member and returns the key of the new member (using scope_identity) as an output.
What is the syntax in the SQL Command line of the OLE DB Command Transformation to set the output of the stored procedure as an Output Column?
I know that I can 1) add a second Lookup with "Enable memory restriction" on (no caching) in the Success data flow after the OLE DB Command, 2) find the newly inserted member, and 3) Union both Lookup results together, but this is a large dimension table (several million rows) and searching for the newly inserted dimension member seems excessive, especially since I have the ID I want returned as output from the stored procedure that inserted it.

I have the SQL code for one of the select list columns as shown below in the SSRS Data set query level.
 Example : Select IsNUll(max(ET.[# Utilizations by Utilization Method]),0) as [Employee Period Total]
SQL Result Set Output :
0
0
0
The above code when run in SQL displays correctly with zeroes if NULL values are available from the Source tables.Now at the SSRS Report level design I have grouped with more than one values.Even at the expression  I have given  =Fields!Employee_YTD_Total.Value but report output displays blank In order to evaluate 0 from the SQL result set I even tried equating the values to 0 like = Iif(Fields!Employee_YTD_Total.Value = 0 ,0,Fields!Employee_YTD_Total.Value) but still the report outputs is blank.
Issue/Query : Why it displays blank and I should have this as 0 in the report output to eliminate blank as this would be not appropriate to the end users to validate. What has to be changed either at the SSRS level or at the SQL level.

Hi All,
I put a blank or ‘0’ in one of column of a text file and then I used BCP to load this file to a table of SQL server 6.5. The field in SQL server table is char type with size 1. After I run this process, all rows with this column received ‘0’ and no blank or null at a black value place. Could you please help me to fix this problem and make some of rows in the column get a blank or null value.

i have the following problem:
I have a matrix with a right subtotal column and this matrix was in a list (because in the end i will have more than one matrix). The list fits perfectly the matrix in design mode. But if i render the report in the viewer or to pdf, an additional blank area (like a blank copy of the subtotal column) was inserted after the right subtotal column of the matrix and increases the list too. You can see this easy by set the backgroundcolor of a list to a color. Without the subtotal column the list fits perfect after rendering. The problem is that this additional blank "column" creates empty pages in .pdf rendering, if the width of the matrix is near the page width. The same behaviour happens if i put the matrix with subtotal in a rectangle.
I must use a list in the end because the the final report contains some matrixes and a subreport.
So is this a bug?
Someone must have this problem too?

I'm having some issues getting OLE DB Data Sources to work w stored procs in SSIS. Here's the situation.
I have an OLE DB Data Source set up to call a stored proc w no parameters. The stored procedure loops through a set of databases and inserts data from each database into a results table. I'm attempting to return the results table to SSIS, but the Available External Columns are not populating. However, previewing the query in SSIS does show results. The insert in to the results table is done by a call to sp_executesql.
I've tried setting the results table up as a temp table, table variable, and static table. I have NOCOUNT set ON and am only returning one recordset. I've seen the other threads in here about similar problems, but none of their solutions seem to work for me.
Any help would be much appreciated....

I have a little question. I have an application which interfaces with a SQL Express Database. On a form, I want to bind a control which is made of several Radio buttons to a table column which is in fact a varchar(1). This is the picture:
Table column: OptVisualRpt varchar(1)
Screen control: 2 radio buttons
rb_VisRPTbImp_O for "yes"
rb_VisRPTbImp_N for "no"
I'm really scratching my head as how I can bind a single table column to my radio buttons controls. I think that I just can't this way but rather have to use an intermediate variable or control.
Solution 1?
I thought of using a local variable that I would set to "y" or "n" following "CheckedChanged" events fired from radio buttons but I don't know how to bind this variable to my table column.
Solution 2?
I thought of placing a hidden text control into my form, which one would be binded to my table column, that I would also set to "y" or "n" following "CheckedChanged" events fired from radio buttons.
Any of these solutions which would be feasible or any more neat way to do it?

I am dealing with what I believe is Oracle that is the source of a SQL View.
I am seeing a data type of Integer in the View, but I am not able to see what makes up that View. When I query the View, I can see that an Integer data type column is storing a blank space. I use ISNUMERIC(ColumnName) = 0 and there are a lot of rows that show as a zero length blank space, or text, or something. I just know that it is not an Integer.
I have attempted to CAST and Convert this value, but it will not. I have changed the data type on the table that is being inserted in too, and it still fails with a Conversion error. I have tried REPLACE(), but still the same conversion error.

We are importing Flat file data from our Mainframe system. We have a lot of money amounts coming in, but the mainframe does not store the decimals in the flat file. So for example a row in the file might look like this:
+0000007894-0000000563
Where the first value is $78.94 and the second value is -$5.63
Is there anyway to have the Flat file connection manager put in the decimal place for me, or do i have to create derived columns for each column and divide it by 100? There like 50-100 columns per file, so i'm looking for a better, quicker way.

I receive blanks for a column called value and i need to represent it as a blank or NA into a colum whose datatype is float in the datawarehouse.
how is this possible because in current schenario a blank is being converted to 0
which is not the right thing.
i would like to retain the blank in conversion from char to float ,
please explain me if it can be done or how to overcome this issue.

I have my first SSIS package almost working, but I'm having an odd problem and can't find any information to help resolve it.
I'm importing from a flat file (csv) to an existing table (append). I've got a Derived Column transformation in the middle to do some data cleanup. It's all working except for one little problem...
One of the transformations is 'REPLACE([Column 3],"^","; ")', output to a new column. (The input file has a field that uses carets as delimiters between an unknown number of items; I'm changing that to semicolons for easier reading.) Not all rows have data in this column, some will have one item, some will have multiple items.
The REPLACE works except that it fills in repeated data for all the blank rows.
Example:
Incoming data is:
1 Smith,Jane^Jones,Jane
2 Brown,John
3
4 Adams,James^Adams,Jim
5
6 White,Debra
Data inserted into the table is:
1 Smith,Jane; Jones,Jane
2 Brown,John
3 Brown,John
4 Adams,James; Adams,Jim
5 Adams,James; Adams,Jim
6 White,Debra
I've tried to use a Conditional to skip the empty rows, but I can't get that working at all (get syntax errors no matter what I put in).
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be most appreciated!

I would like to get the actual name of the column that has the error. Using the ErrorColumn (int value) I thought there would be some type of lookup collection based on the input (like column names)- if there is, can someone tell me how to get to it?
I have my error output writing to a stored proc, but instead of "32226" as the column name, I need to have the actual name of the column. I am going from Flat File to OLE DB Destination. I have a Script Component getting the output to write to my sproc, and I just need to get the column name.

Hi,
I am dumping varchar(40) column from a OLE DB Source to Excel file but it is failing due this error
[Excel Destination [239]] Error: Column "ItemDescription" cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types.
How can I resolve this issue?

I have a Data Flow Task that extracts some data using a DataReader Source and loads it to a Raw File Destination. I am getting the following error message:
[DataReader Source [2357]] Error: The value was too large to fit in the output column "LASTCOL" (2558).
I thought that using a Raw File Destination would avoid this type of problem. How can I resolve this issue?

using sql database, i have a smallmoney column. when i enter an amount, 50.00 for example, i have 50.0000 displayed. is there a way to only have 50.00 displayed?
same with the smalldatetime, is there a way to limit the display to "mm/dd/yyyy" without the "hh:mms am"
