I have just migrated an Access database to the SQL Server. All of a sudden, some of the append queries no longer work. The reason why, is because some of the values in the source table fields, are a series of spaces. When a Trim(TheseFields) is applied, the data will append. Why is that? The datatype of these fields on the SQL Server is set as Varchar(50) and to accept nulls. How can I get these fields to accept spaces? Thanks - I hope.
I've got a csv that I am trying to import into a SQL Server (2000)table through an adp (Access 2000). The form used gives the user theability to browse for a file, then will import the file into a temptable for processing using this vba code:DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, , "tmpPaTimeClock2", Me!TimeFileName,FalseWhen I run the import through the code, the import is dropping anyvalues less than one (apparently). I've got a couple of columns thathave .5 for the value, but these are brought in as 0. Decimal placesare being imported (ex. 532.28 comes in correctly as 523.28)I've tried changing the datatype in the temp table, but that doesn'tseem to make a difference.I've tried letting the import create a new table, but that doesn't fixthe problem either. If I import the file directly through the adp (right click - import)all of the values are brought in correctly.Anyone know how to fix this, or an alternative? I did some reading onbcp and Bulk Copy, but I couldn't see an easy way to allow for thevariable path name to the file.
Does anyone know what datatype I could use to store a large amount of text? I just started using sql two days ago and still trying to become familar with it. Took me a whole day to set up a damn trusted connection.....newbie
can someone point me to the differences in the datatypes between accessand sqlserver?I've writen a program that creates a table in access using an sql createquery. However, if I point to a sqlserver odbc datasource the querybombs
I have to do a lot of inporting from Access files. Is there a place where I can change the default datatype conversion for Access Text from nvarchar to varchar?
My app uses .net 1.1 and MS SQL 2005 as backend. How to add a SqlParamter that is varchar(MAX)?SqlParameter myParameter = new SqlParameter("@Description",SqlDbType.VarChar,whatToPutHere?,ParameterDirection.Input, true,0,0,"Whatever",DataRowVersion.Current,"Whatever");
which is to parse a create table script using Microsoft.SqlServer.TransactSql.ScriptDom namespace..I get a list of statements : StatementList SQLStatement = parser.ParseStatementList(StreamReader, out errors);then I cast a relevant statement to the CreateTableStatement type which gives me access to the ColumnDefinition class.
foreach (TSqlStatement T in SQLStatement.Statements) { if (T is CreateTableStatement) { CreateTableStatement TC= (CreateTableStatement)T}} with foreach (ColumnDefinition CD in TC.Definition.ColumnDefinitions)
I am ready to loop through the columns so far so good. I can get to the column name using CD.ColumnIdetifier.Value, to the data type using CD.DataType.Name.BaseIdentifier.Value, but can't seem to get to the length definition. Meaning, I can get column1 , varchar; but I need column1, varchar(40). where do I get (40) from?I tried using ScriptTokenStream under C.DataType, but it seems to iterate through all tokens not just ones relevant to that fragment.
Hi, on a migration from access 97 to SQL Server 7.0 columns in access like 'hyperlink' are converted to datatype 'text' on the SQL Server 7.0. Now I miss the function in the access application I had before with fields like 'hyperlink'. Now I can't start e.g. a word document with a click and I have to type in the hyperlink manualy. Does anyone had the same problem an possibly have a resolve? Thanks.
Dear All, in one of my systems, the OS is windows Professional. will the system accepts to install sql server 2005 client tools?(any edition) please give me the info
The query fails to execute and returns an error: String[1]: the Size property has an invalid size of 0. If I change the SqlDbType.Text parameter type to SqlDBType.Varchar, 100 (or any other fixed varchar length), it works but limits the length my unlimited field text. Any suggestions on how I can use db type text or varchar(max)? The field I need to retrieve is string characters of unlimited length and hence the datatype varchar(max).
I am installing a new instance of SQL 2005 including reporting services and have a serious problem. All looks fine from the Reporting Services Configurations system, however, when attempting to browse to http://servername/reports I get an authentication challenge. All forms of credentials are rejected. The server is a Member server in the domain and SQL Server and the reporting services are installed on this server.
Any help would be appreciated as this is holding up the server installation and I have conducted exhaustive searches for a solution.
This problem is also reported in this thread, although, no solutions have been provided for a long time, so I am re-posting: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=560169&SiteID=1

Whose purpose is to perform an insert into a table and return me the identity value of the inserted record, which I'll then use throughout the rest of my package. The identity column in the inserted table is numeric(18,0).
I execute the stored proc with the following sql with an OLE DB connection manager:
exec sp_newTransaction ?, ?
The first parameter is a string variable from earlier in the package, and the second is the output parameter. I have the following parameter mappings to the execute sql task:
The proc is correctly called, and the row insesrted, however I get a type conversion error when SSIS attempts to map the return parameter to my package variable... I've tried all sorts of combonations, and can't seem to get it to execute.
At one point I wasn't returning a numeric, but rather an int from the stored proc, and all was well until I went to use the variable in a derived column later in the package, and the type was converted quite incorrectly (a 1 was 77799789080 or some such), indicating a type conversion error likely related to the encoding of the number.
I'd like to keep the datatypes as numeric and make ssis use those - any pointers are greatly appreciated as to what type my package variable should be to allow proper assignment of a sql server numeric type to it.
I have my stored procedure set to Territory_code IN (@Territory)

I have a USERS database table with a column called IsValidated. It identifies if a user has been validated. I'd like to know which datatype would be the most efficient for this column. Our DBA made it a varchar(1) column. Would using int be better? Please advice.
I have a message box or multiline textbox on my form and I am storing into an SQL DB. I currently have it as a VARCHAR, but that doesn't seem to store the carriage returns. Do I have to store them as a nvarchar, text, ntext or something else to make the returns show? I am pulling them out of the DB and showing them in a label where I replace the with a <br>.

Over the years I have always used the decimal(18,0) as the datatype forprimary keys. Aside from the number of significant numbers involved, would BigInt type be better for performance or is decimal(18,0) still okay.--Don VaillancourtDirector of Software DevelopmentWEB IMPACT INC.phone: 416-815-2000 ext. 245fax: 416-815-2001email: Join Bytes! <mailto:donv@webimpact.com>web: http://www.web-impact.comWeb Impact Inc. <http://www.web-impact.com>This email message is intended only for the addressee(s) and containsinformation that may be confidential and/or copyright. If you are not the intended recipient please notify the sender by replyemail and immediately delete this email.Use, disclosure or reproduction of this email by anyone other than theintended recipient(s) is strictly prohibited.
