Date Query With An Access Database
Jan 2, 2008
I have written a small app in VB2005 for a friend of mine and now I am trying to extract records for an access database with a specific month in the date field. What I am trying to get is all the entries for a month like July. I have this as my query:
SELECT ID, ShopDate, ShopText FROM Cost
WHERE DATEPART([month], ShopDate) = ?
When I run the preview, it is asking me to pass along an AnsiString as a parameter. I have tryed numbers, spelling out the month, numbers in single and double quotes, spelled out month in single and double quotes but it will not take anything that I type as a parameter for the query
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Denis

Example:Date | ItemCode | Stock_In_qty | Stock_Out_qty | Bal_qty------------------------------------------------------------------12/09/2003 | A100 | 20 | 0 | 2025/10/2003 | A100 | 0 | 10 | *10I need to query an Access database that will take field 3 (Stock_In_qty)plus any bal fromthe above row in the calculated field (Bal_qty) minus field 4(Stock_Out_qty) that will show methe latest Bal_qty, note that Bal_qty = (Stock_In_Qty - Stock_Out_Qty)AS Bal_Qty.As an Example in the above scenario,the Bal_qty in the second row on 25/10/2003 is (0 + 20(Row 1) - 10) =*10.Stock out not necessary comes fromStock In, it could simply be taken out from the Bal_qty balance fromprevious month, any clues?can anyone help? I am new to SQL server, and am learning as I move an Access db to MSDE2000A. With Access db I run several different queries from a VB6 application in the basic format:
SELECT testdb.*
FROM testdb
WHERE testdb.datefield = #1/01/2004#
When working with the MDSE version of the db, problem is with the "#" delimiter of dates. MSDE is giving a bad query error. If I change the format to: datefield = '1/01/2004' , the query works on MSDE
However, using SQL builder in VB Design Environment I can run the query in either format and get a result.
Any suggests what I am missing? Thanks.

First I have to apologize about posting the problem here , since it not actually relate to SQL Server
I am really new to database programming.
I use ADO (the ActiveX one , Not ADO.NET) In an MFC Application to access MS ACCESS Database
I can insert date in to table using statement like this
insert into tableXXX (date_field) values ('1/2/2007')
but when i tried to query it using this statement
select * from tableXXX where date_field = #1/2/2007#
Nothing return
I also tried to use #1-2-2007# , #01-02-2007# but it all the same
Can someone tell me how to successfuly use date as a query condition ?
Thank in Advance

I work for an organisation that uses a bespoke document imaging system, thedatabase of which is an MS sql server.We have MS Access and already use it for some querying of the database.The database comprises a large number of distinct cases, which aredifferentiated by case reference numbers, in one field (table?) of thedatabase. Each of these cases may have many documents associated with it,denoted by the reference number, and these documents may be "new", "pending"or "complete" shown in another data field.We need to know how many cases have work outstanding on them.Our problem is that our bespoke software will only count the number ofdocuments of each status, and not the cases.Is it possible to design an MS Access query which will count the number ofdifferent reference numbers which have any "new" documents associated, butwont count each case more than once?I am reasonably computer-savvy, I just don't know Access or SQL..If I know it is possible, I don't mind putting in the effort to find outhow. I just don't want to waste time barking up the wrong tree ;-)Of course any advice about how this would be achieved, such as pointers tothe right parts of the MS Access helpfiles, or to relevant websites would begreatly appreciated. Some quick code would be even better...Also, if there is any 3rd-party software which could easily do this, I needhelp discovering it...I have looked long and hard, but don't know enoughabout what I am looking for.Yours in hope..--anthonyberetPlease reply in the groups, as my Usenet email address is not working at themoment.

Hi, I've just started using SQL Server Express with VWDE 2005 and I have a database with one table called EVENTS which has a datetime column called DATE. I want to select records where the DATE value is in the next two months.First I tried selecting records where the DATE value is >= today. I used the query builder to produce... SELECT [Date], [Title] FROM [Events] WHERE [Date] >= GETDATE()but got the error "Undefined function 'GETDATE' in expression".Am I missing something obvious?

Ok, to start I will say I am a novice so detailed solutions are much appreciated. I believe I am on the right track. Here is what I am trying to accomplish. I have a page that uses an xml driven google map. When you click on the map marker, the info bubble displays brief information about a community and a link specified from the xml file. I have specified the links in the xml file to pass a query string variable ex: /community.aspx?name=uniqueCommunityNameHere. I tested this by simply placing a label on the community.aspx page that restated the "name" value - works fine (first commented out line of Page_Load). Now I need to complete my VB function that pulls the data record from the database - based on the parameter input from the query string - when the page loads. So if the user clicks the link on the marker for community1, it will populate community.aspx with info about community1 from the database... if they click community7 it will display that community info etc.
Data Table: "Community" Data Fields: ID, Name, Description, Address, City, State, Phone, SalesRep.
ASPX Page Design Elements: lblID, lblName, lblDesc, lblAddress.... etc.
Here is my start... I will need help with the sql statement for sure - how do I create a where clause from the query string parameter passed in?
Thanks so much for your help!
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load'My initial test to see that the query string is working lblName.Text = Request("name").ToString()
' Get the community info when loading community.aspx for the user selected communityIf Not IsPostBack ThenLoadCommunityInfo(Request("name").ToString())End IfEnd SubPrivate Sub LoadCommunityInfo(ByVal community)' Define data objectsDim conn As SqlConnectionDim comm As SqlCommandDim reader As SqlDataReader
' Read the connection string from Web.configDim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("CONHTConnectionString").ConnectionString' Initialize connectionconn = New SqlConnection(connectionString)' Create commandcomm = New SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM Community WHERE Name = " & community, conn)' Enclose database code in Try-Catch-FinallyTry' Open the connectionconn.Open()' Execute the commandreader = comm.ExecuteReader()' Populate the list of community information -> Make the labels.text = the database fields --> lblName.text = table-Community field-"Name"lblName.Text = "Name"lblDesc.Text = "Description"....' Hi all,
I am trying to create a report against an Access 2003 database using the provider as follows: "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;"
Simple reports with no parameters are fine (e.g. using a text query of 'Select * from BERs'
But how do I pass in a report parameter to limit the results coming back ? I have only used stored procs in the past which work fine but how to achieved this using Access has me stumped.
An example query I need would be 'Select * from BERs WHERE Year = [Year?]'
Anyone got any pointers ?
Thanks in advance

I am having trouble trying to filter my sql database using the query string against a date column in my database. I set a date variable = "dd/mm/yyy" format but when I apply that in the sql query as:
StartPeriod = CDate("01/" & Today.Month.ToString & "/" & Today.Year.ToString)
EndPeriod = CDate(Today.Day.ToString & "/" & Today.Month.ToString & "/" & Today.Year.ToString)
At this point StartPeriod = #04/01/2015# and EndPeriod is #04/27/2015#
sql = "SELECT * FROM Transactions WHERE ((PaidOutDate IS Null) OR (TransDate >= '" & StartPeriod & "' AND TransDate <= '" & EndPeriod & "')
When I execute the Sql command I get this error:
"Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string"
My Current Culture is {en-AU}

The source database has "invalid" dates such as "6/4/199" and "12/23/1899". I am unable to change the data in the source database and have been instructed to load the values as nulls in the SQL destination tables. I tried to do a conditional split using a "ISDATE()" function but that is not a valid function for conditional splits.
What are my options for validating the incoming dates are correct or nulling the dates out that aren't
Thank you in advance,

We have been asked to look into using stored procedures with SQL Server 7.0 as a way to speed up a clients site. 99% of all the articles I have read along with all the books all say Stored Procedure should be used whenever possible as opposed to putting the SQL in your ASP script. However one of my colleagues has been speaking to Microsoft and they said that that they were surprised that our client wanted to use Stored Procedures as this was the old method of database access and that now he should really consider using COM objects for data access as itis much faster. Has anyone got any views on this or know of any good aticles regarding this matter ?

I have an SSIS package that moves data from SQL Server to an legacy Access database. In SQL Server, there is a date/time column that I need to split into a separate date column and time column in the access database. Initially I just created a derrived column for the time and set the expression equal to the source date/time column from SQL Server. Unfortunately, that just makes the date column and time column the same having the full date/time.
What expression can I use during a derrived column transformation to assign just the date to a derrived column and just the time to another derrived column?
Thanks,
Steve

I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.
But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013. The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.
I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.

I asked this question below, but the answer was that the conversion will take place automatically, but I can't get that to happen. I have a flat file with an 8 position field that I identify as string (and I also tried date) that is yyyymmdd and it needs to go into the database field that is datetime format. IS there something I am doing wrong with the definition of it, or do I need to add some kind of conversion, and if so, what and how would that be done. I'm a dts Sql2000 expert, but the SSIS thing is driving me crazy. I have a ton of dts' to convert and the migration tool doesn't work because there are a lot of active X scripts in them. thanks for your help. Boston Rose

Brand new to this, so please bear with me.I'm using the following code fragment to update a datetime field on a SQL Server 2005 database table:cmd.CommandText = "Update Projects Set EntryDate = " & Convert.ToDateTime(txtEntryDate.Text)cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()The result of the update operation is the the database field contains the value "1900-01-01 00:00:00:000". This probably means that I passed nulls to SQL; however, I see a valid date in the txtEntryDate field on my web form (i.e., "06/18/2007"). I also did a "Response.write" to display the txtEntryDate and it looks Okay.Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?Thanks!Using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express.

Now I cannot go in and make any changes to any of the tables, queries and forms. All of this started when a new Ghost image was installed on my pc.
The message I get when I try to open my database is "You do not have permission to run "tblSwitchboard." I get the same error message when I try to do anything at all on the database.
I am at a loss as to what to do. Please help.

CString string(query.m_str);
cmd.Open(theApp.m_cs,string);
hr = cmd.MoveFirst();
query=static_cast< BSTR >(cmd.GetValue(1));
CString csres(query.m_str);
this->m_numc=(int)*(query.m_str);
query=static_cast< BSTR >(cmd.GetValue(2));

query=static_cast< BSTR >(cmd.GetValue(3));
//m_fecc=(int)*(query.m_str);
MessageBox(csres);
theApp.m_cs.Close();
}
FechaC, FechaCob, are the two Dates I want to retrieve, but when I debug, it reads a 0 (zero) from the date fields, is there a limitation? can they be read? is there a special way to read them?

Hello,
I have a package variable called LatestTableFileDate that is typed to DateTime. I have an Execute SQL Task that executes the following SQL statement against an MS Access 2000 database table through the OLEDB Jet provider;
SELECT MAX(FileDate) AS MaxFileDate
FROM CollectionData_Access
The statement parses fine. At the moment, the returned value is NULL. I have 'Result Set' set to 'Single Row'. The FileDate column in the Access table is 'Date/Time', and the Format is 'Short Date'.
In the result set properties, I attempt to set the result to the LatestTableFileDate user variable. When I run the task, the task fails, and the following appears on the 'Progress' tab;
[Execute SQL Task] Error: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "LatestTableFileDate": "Unsupported data type on result set binding 0.".
I searched the forum for this problem, and didn't find anything. Do I need to convert the date in MS Access to a string and set the package variable to a string type, or is there some other way to handle this?
Thank you for your help!
