DateTime Updating Problem in sql?

below is the query that is a part of a sproc .All table
fields and values are ok. When the mentioned Sproc. is
called in query analyzer it executes well and update all
fields of the table used in UPDATE statement
.
UPDATE Emp_Schedule
SET IOS = 0, HoursWorked = @WorkTime, COA =getdate()
WHERE (Emp_Id = @EmpID) AND (S_Id = @ShiftId) AND (DT =@DayTime)

PROBLEM arises when i call this procedure from C# code all
fields are updated Except the COA(DateTime) field.Whats the
problem. SProc runs well both in debug mode and normal mode
in query analyzer and do updates the values. But when i
call in C# only datetime field COA is not Updated? Plz solve this.
THNX IN Advance.

VarChar Auto Updating DateTime

Apr 12, 2005

I have a textbox that is receiving a date in the format  mm/dd/yyyy.  The field in the database is VarChar size 10.  I purposely don't want to use the DateTime data type for various reasons.  When I extract the text from that textbox:
Example:4/11/2005
I do my INSERT.  When I look in the database at that field, it shows up like:April 11, 2005 12
The database's field is VarChar! How/why is it doing automatic DateTime formatting?

Error Updating A DateTime Field

Oct 11, 2005

Hi, I'm having trouble updating a DateTime field in my SQL database.  Here is what I'm trying to do....I retrieve the existing value in the DateTime field (usually a bum date like 1/1/1900 00:00:00:00), then put it in a variable.  Later, depending on some conditions, I'll either update the DateTime field to today's date (which works great) or set it back equal to the existing value from the variable (this one messes up and says "SqlDateTime overflow. Must be between 1/1/1753 12:00:00 AM and 12/31/9999 11:59:59 PM. ").  There is a ton more than this but here are the relevant snippets:<code>Dim CompDate As DateTimeDim aComm As SQLCommand Dim aReader As SQLDataReader Dim bSQL,bConn As String bSQL= "SELECT CompleteDate,StatusOfMarkout FROM Tickets WHERE TicketName=" _ & CHR(39) & Trim(Ticket.Text) & CHR(39) bConn = serverStuff aConn = New SQLConnection(bConn) aComm = New SQLCommand(bSQL,aConn) aConn.Open() result = aComm.ExecuteReader() 'fills controls with data While result.Read()    CompDate = result("CompleteDate")    PreviousMarkoutStatus.Text = result("StatusOfMarkout") End While result.Close() aConn.Close()sSqlCmd ="Update OneCallTickets CompleteDate=@CompleteDate, StatusOfMarkout=@StatusOfMarkout WHERE TicketFileName=@TicketFileName" dim SqlCon as New SqlConnection(serverStuff) dim SqlCmd as new SqlCommand(sSqlCmd, SqlCon) If Flag1List.SelectedItem.Value = "No Change" Then    SqlCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Flag1", SqlDbType.NVarChar,35))    SqlCmd.Parameters("@Flag1").Value = PreviousMarkoutStatus.Text    SqlCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@CompleteDate", SqlDbType.DateTime, 8))    SqlCmd.Parameters("@CompleteDate").Value = CompDateElse   SqlCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Flag1", SqlDbType.NVarChar,35))    SqlCmd.Parameters("@Flag1").Value = CurrentStatus.Text    SqlCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@CompleteDate", SqlDbType.DateTime, 8))    SqlCmd.Parameters("@CompleteDate").Value = Today()End IfSqlCon.Open() SqlCmd.ExecuteNonQuery() SqlCon.Close()</code>Can anybody help me with this?  Thanks a bunch

Automatic Updating Of Datetime Field

Jun 15, 2004

I need to automatically update a datetime field for a record to the current time whenever the record is updated.

create table t (
id bigint identity(1,1) not null primary key,
name varchar(50),
value varchar(50),
ts datetime not null default getutcdate()
)
go
insert t (name, value) values ('fred', 'bob')
go
update t set value='robert' where id=1 and name='fred'
go

One option would be to use an instead of update trigger.

create trigger update_t on t
instead of update as
update t set ts=getutcdate(),name=inserted.name, value=inserted.value from t inner join inserted on t.id=inserted.id
go

update t set value='dick' where id=1 and name='fred'
go

Sounds like I've solved my own problem, heh? Well, here's the catch ... you can't know the names of the other columns at the time you write the trigger. I.e. you only know that there is a ts field that needs to be updated internally, otherwise you want the update to do the same thing it would normally do.

Any ideas?

Problem Updating A Record Based On A Datetime.

Sep 24, 2007

Hi People,
hope someone can help me out here with a little problem.
 Basically i've go a asp.net page which has a listbox on. This list box is populated from a SQL database table with the datetime of the a selected field. Thus in the list box you get a list of strings looking like this "24/09/07 12:58"
Also on the page is a submit button, and some other editing textboxes. The main issue here is the when the submit button is used i get the currently selected listbox timedate string and then pass this along with other items to update a record in the database based on the datetime in the listbox control.

Below is how i get the string from the listbox control
Dim except_time As DateTime
except_time = DropDownList1.SelectedValue
The expect_time is then passed to store procedure along with some other vars, which looks like this
-- =============================================-- Author: Lee Trueman-- Create date: 1st Sept 2007-- =============================================CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[spExcept_UpdateData]  -- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here @validated bit, @update_time datetime, @except_time datetimeASBEGIN -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from -- interfering with SELECT statements. SET NOCOUNT ON
     -- Insert statements for procedure here UPDATE exceptions SET    validated = @validated,    update_time = @update_time WHERE  (except_time = @except_time)END
So validated and update_time should be updated when except_time is equal to @except_time

My problem is that the database never updates. If i debug the asp.net page the watch var shows the datetime in US format (I.e "09/24/07 12:58"), if this is true then this would explain why when it is passed to the stored proc nothing gets updated, as there would not be a date match.
can anyone see any silly mistakes i'm doing here ????

Updating Datetime Data Types In A Table To Show Just Day, Month, Year

Apr 2, 2008

I have a table with a datetime field 'TheDate'. Currently dates are stored as 'mm-dd-yyyy 00:00:00'. Is there a way to get just the month, day and year parts, '01/01/2008' into the field without changing the field data type to varchar? I'm asking because when I do this:

declare @MyDate as datetime

set @MyDate = '04/02/2008 18:00:00'

select substring(convert(varchar,@MyDate,101),1,10)

I get '04/02/2008', but when I do this:

update TheTable
set TheDate = substring(convert(varchar,TheDate,101),1,10)

I'm still getting a date in the format 'mm-dd-yyyy 00:00:00' stored in the table. I'd like to be able to lose the time portion, but I'd like to be able to keep the datetime datatype for date math purposes. Can it be done?

Updating SQL Server 2000 From ASP.net

Jun 9, 2004

I am really lost understanding using SQL Server 2000 with ASP.net Webb apps. If you are dong windows apps, the form builder wizard will either build you a page with a grid for displaying multiple records, or a single record page with text boxes.

All well and good.

With ASP.net web apps, though, you only get the option for making the gred/multiple record page.

So I try to make a page with textboxes to use to update my table in Sequel Server. I do my data binding, and fill my adapter, and viola, the data from my first row appears in the text boxes.

Here is the problem. I have a "Next" button and a "Previous" button that I want to use to move forward or backward through the rows in the table. What code do I put behind the buttons?

I created a windows app and used the dataform wizard to make a single record form. The code it puts behind the "Next" button is

Private Sub btnNavNext_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnNavNext.Click
Me.BindingContext(objDS_SclRcd, "IMA_School").Position = (Me.BindingContext(objDS_SclRcd, "IMA_School").Position + 1)
Me.objDS_SclRcd_PositionChanged()

End Sub

I tried to incorate the logic into my ASP web page, but can't figure out how to do it.

It seems like it ought to be simple, like position = position + position, but I can't figure it out.

Also, after I enter data changes, how do I save the updated data from the screen to the data set before moving on to the last record?

Last, how do I tell the dataset to go back and update the connextion server?

I really want to be able to update SQL data from a remote client usuing ASP web page, but none of my manual address how to do it.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Jim

Replication And Direct Updating In SQL 2000

May 3, 2006

I have taken over the support over a database in sql 2000 that has 10+ remote users that synchronise each day. However it also has 30+ users who are directly updating the data in the live database on the server.

One of these users is entering data directly upon the database on the server but the new rows are being placed in the conflict table somehow!!

Does anybody have any ideas about how this could be happening ?

Is it ok to have users directly updating on the server and users synchronising ?

I would appreciate any help!!

Updating Changed Row Via Trigger In SQL Server 2000?

Jul 20, 2005

Hi All,I'm a relatively newbie to SQL Server 2000, having come from a MySQLbackground.I'm creating my first Trigger statement on a table, and I'd like toknow how I go about performing an update on the row that was changedwhen the trigger was fired.To explain, I have 2 columns, one which contains a member number, theother which contains a flag that is supposed to indicate whether ornot the member number in the row has changed since the last time thetable was processed for updates.So, whenever the value in the member number field [memnum] is updated,I want to set the flag [igproc] to true.The best I've been able to do is:CREATE TRIGGER [updateignoreprocflag] ON [dbo].[dd_testtable]FOR UPDATEASdeclare @key as intIF UPDATE (memnum)select @key = recid from insertedUPDATE dd_testtable set igproc=1 where recid=@keyThis seems to work, but I'd like to know if there's a better way ofretrieving the recid value of the changed row to pass to the UPDATEstatement? Also, I read somewhere in passing that using SELECTstatements and variable assignments within triggers can cause problemswhen called from other applications; in this case it will either be aweb site using ASP.or an application developed in FOXPRO. I can't findwhere I read this originally, so it's entirely possible I imagined itor misunderstood it, but I'd very much appreciate it if someone couldconfirm whether or not this is the case?Many, many thanks in advance!Much warmth,Murray

or

select * from my_data where its_data not like '00:00:00' and its_data >= '2005-05-10' and its_data <='2005-05-12'

in such command I have all records also with (not desired) time 00:00:00 like 2005-05-11 00:00:00
Who knows the proper syntax?

DateTime Formats In Sql Server 2005 And 2000

Mar 19, 2007

Hi there
I have an application running in two development environments, one using a sql server 2005 database and the other using a 2000 database.  The application works on the 2000 database but when i try to insert values into the 2005 database the date format is incorrect (mm/dd/yyyy). I've checked the regional data settings on both machines and they are identical.  The application (which i inherited) uses inline sql and when i dump the values before the sql command is run i get dd/mm/yyyy for the app running 2005 and mm/dd/yyyy for the app on 2000.  I'm trying to determine if this is an issue with the machine itself and the .net framework installed or infact the two different versions on sql server.

SQL Server 2000 And Milliseconds (datetime Data Type)

Jan 18, 2007

I'm running into a constant issue of SQL Server modifying themillisecond part of a timestamp insert from another application. Theapplication inserts timestamp which includes a millisecond portion as astring (varchar). But when an SQL Server moves this data to anothertable (for reporting), the string is inserted in a datetime field, themillisecond field invariably changes by 1-2 milliseconds for everysingle data point inserted. Given the time critical nature of this data(to a millisecond), its almost impossible to avoid this other than toleave the data as string type. But this drives the analytical reportingfolks wild as report queries based on time criteria are getting messedup. Any ideas how to force SQL Server not to mess around with themillisecond value? Does this problem exist with SQL Server 2005 as well?

Inserting And Retriving Datetime Field In Database MSSQL 2000

Jan 10, 2006

Hi, Assume I have a table name "myTime". This table is simply only have 1 (one) DATETIME field "MyTestTime" (also serve as a primary number).Table MyTime- MyTestTime : SQLTYPE DATETIMETo insert a new row into this field, I simply wrote :SqlCommand sqlCommand = new SqlCommand("insert into MyTime values('2006-01-09')", sqlConnection);
I got the value of "2006-01-09" from a textbox or other relevan control.I realize when I try to use "SELECT * FROM MyTime" statement, MSSQL server 2000 automatically convert my date value from "2006-01-09" to "01/09/2006" (from YYYY-MM-DD to MM/DD/YYYY). I don't know why this one must be converted to MM/DD/YYYY automatically (I believe this behavior is depend on some "setting option" in my MSSQL server - but I don't know which one).The challenge is :In my country, the actual date format is like German Date format (DD-MM-YYY). Well I know this is only "Customization" problem. But how insert datetime value given from sql query to a datetime variable?// Connect to database, make a query, get the datareader result, and bla bla blaDateTime aDateTime = new DateTime;aDateTime = Convert.ToDateTime(myDataReader["PostDate"].ToString());// close connectionMy question isHow can I make sure that aDateTime's day is 09 not 01. How my program know that 09 is day not month. I can't use string.split() method because it's possible that my database setting will change from "mm-dd-yyyy" to "dd-mm-yyyy"thanks

DataTable dt1 = new DataTable();
dt1.Columns.Add("no",typeof(System.Int16));
dt1.Columns.Add("date_t", typeof(System.DateTime));
DataRow dr = dt1.NewRow();
dr["no"] = 1;
dr["date_t"] = DateTime.Now;
dt1.Rows.Add(dr);
for(int i=0;i<dt1.Rows.Count;i++)
{
string str=dt1.Rows["no"].ToString();
DateTime dt=(DateTime)dt1.Rows["date_t"];
string insertQuery = "insert into date_test values(" + str + ",'" + dt + "')";
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(insertQuery, connectionToDatabase);
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
MessageBox.Show("saved");
}
When I run the above code, data is inserted into the table
The value in the date_t column is 2007-07-09 22:10:11 000.The milliseconds value is always 000 only.I need the millisecond values also in date_t column.
Is there any conversion needed for millisecond values?

 Hi all, having a little problem with saving dates to sql databaseI've got the CreatedOn field in the table set to datetime type, but every time i try and run it i get an error kicked up  Error "The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.The statement has been terminated."I've tried researching it but not been able to find something similar.  Heres the code: DateTime createOn = DateTime.Now;string sSQLStatement = "INSERT INTO Index (Name, Description, Creator,CreatedOn) values ('" + name + "','" + description + "','" + userName + "','" + createOn + "')"; Any help would be much appreciated

SQL Query: Finding Records Between Datetime Inside Datetime

Mar 17, 2007

Hey :)I'm facing a lot of troubles trying to create a new pause/break-system. Right now i'm building up the query that counts how many records that is inside 2 fields. Let me first show you my table:
ID (int)     |    stamp_start (Type: DateTime)        |      stamp_end (Type: DateTime)           |      Username (varchar)0             |      17-03-07 12:00:00                      |            17-03-07 12:30:00                     |     Hovgaard
The client will enter a start time and a end time and this query should then count how many records that are inside this periode of time.
 Example: The client enter starttime: 12:05 and endtime: 12:35.The query shall then return 1 record found. The same thing if the user enters 12:20 and 12:50.My current query looks like this:SELECT COUNT(ID) AS Expr1 FROM table WHERE (start_stamp <= @pausetime_start) AND (end_stamp >= @pausetime_end)But this will only count if I enter the exact same times as the one inside the table.Any ideas how I can figure this out?Thanks for your time so far :)/Jonas Hovgaard - Denmark

Datetime Data Type Resulted In An Out-of-range Datetime Value. Please Help

May 13, 2006

Hi,
I have a column of type datetime in sqlserver 2000. Whenever I try to insert the date
 '31/08/2006 23:28:59'
 I get the error "...datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value"
I've looked everywhere and I can't solve the problem. Please note, I first got this error from an asp.net page and in order to ensure that it wasn't some problem with culture settings I decided to run the query straight in Sql Query Anaylser. The results were the same. What else could it be?
cheers,
Ernest
