Hi ,
I am using Visual studio 2005 with sql server 2005. I want to debug my stored procedure, which is situated on the server on the network(accessible through network share). I followed the following URL:

I have used Direct database debugging : When I right click my stored procedure and click 'step into stored procedure', I get the following error:
"Unable to start T-SQL debugging. could not attach
to SQL server process on 'sql_server_name'. The remote procedure call failed and did not
execute"
I am using windows authentication to login to sql server
Any help?

Hello,
we have a SQL server 2005 with Visual studio Prof. 2005 in the
employment.
The debuggers function only in Visual studio correctly, as long as no
code on the SQL server must be implemented.
If a BREAK POINT in a Stored Procedure is set, this is not activated,
since this cannot be bound.
Does someone know, what it lies and can like one it eliminate?

Hi all,
I am trying to debug stored procedure using visual studio. I right click on connection and checked 'Allow SQL/CLR debugging' .. the store procedure is not local and is on sql server.
Whenever I tried to right click stored procedure and select step into store procedure> i get following error
"User 'Unknown user' could not execute stored procedure 'master.dbo.sp_enable_sql_debug' on SQL server XXXXX. Click Help for more information"
I am not sure what needs to be done on sql server side
We tried to search for sp_enable_sql_debug but I could not find this stored procedure under master.
Some web page I came accross says that "I must have an administratorial rights to debug" but I am not sure what does that mean?
Please advise..

I've followed the steps in http://www.sqlteam.com/article/debugging-stored-procedures-in-visual-studio-2005 & in the MSDN for configuring and setting up debugging SQL 2005 stored procedures in VS 2008 (seems to be the same as in VS 2005). Everything works fine until I Step Into the Stored Procedure. Everything says that a yellow arrow will appear on the left and I can start going line by line. I never get the yellow arrow.
If I set a breakpoint, it is automatically disabled. The pop-up warning says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. Unable to bind SQL breakpoint at this time. Object containing the breakpoint not loaded." I can't find anything about this message or problem on Microsoft's site or on the web. Any assistance is appreciated.

I'm running VS 2008 Professional Edition Version 9.0.2.1022.8 RTM

Hi, I used to be able to debug stored procedures via Visual Studio.net 2003. However, this has stopped working. It does not produce an error just simply doesn't work anymore i.e. the breakpoints are by-passed.
I have the correct settings in the Debug configuration section. If any-one knows how to rectify this your help would be appreciated.
I have thought about re-installing the remote debugging functionality on the server. However, our Visual Studio.net discs are with a developer who is away at present.

I am unable to debug code from a SQL Database Project using the CLR. After VS 2005 does the auto-attaching to the SQL server, VS hangs until I tell it to stop debugging. Many others have reported this as a similar problem, however this only seems to affect me when I€™m connecting to specific servers. Specifically it seems to be remote connections. When I attempt to connect to my SQL 2005 Developer Edition €œlocally€? I get right through and can debug.
From my VS output window:

When I attempt to connect to a remote server running Enterprise Edition, it hangs after a successful attach.
Auto-attach to process '[1856] [SQL] virtual2003eric' on machine 'virtual2003eric' succeeded.
Sometimes after countless attempts, I am able to get this to work, but lately I have had no success. As far as the SQL Server side, enabling and disabling the CLR through the Surface Area Configuration seems to be the only place to do anything relative to the CLR inside SQL server.
I have firewalls disabled. All SQL Servers presently have both SQL 2005 SP2 and Visual Studio 2005 SP1 installed.
I€™ve tried restarting servers and services, checking and un-checking €œAllow SQL/CLR Debugging€? and those steps did not work for me.
Does anyone have any insight on this one? Any ideas on how I can further debug this one?

Hello all. I've been trying to find answers for my problem in this forum (and others) but with no sucess so far.
My problem is that Visual Studio crashes when I start debugging a specific package. This package will call most of the other packages in the project (around 200) and it seems that Visual Studio is unable to handle that number of packages, or if it is, then something else is flawed somewhere.
All the packages run as they should when I debug them by themselves. Running without debug works fine but I need it to run in debug mode.
I read some topics where the problem was about validation when opening SSIS but that's not my case. Everything runs smoothly and even the first minutes of debugging run ok, but after that the process keeps running, and I know that because some process tasks still popup, but visual studio doesn't respond at all.
Any input is apreciated.

Hello,I want to debug a Stored Procedure in the VIsual Studio. Actually I managed to do that, but only from Step into SP and Execute. I want to put a breakpoint in the procedure and when it is hit to stop, but if I Run(With Debug) my Site it doesn't stop at the breakpoint in the SP. I put a mark in the project options to debug SQL. What can be wrong?

Basically I've been using Visual Studio 2005 for a few weeks now moving a Pocket PC project from 2003 to 2005. When I hit the Start Debugging Button every time until today the project would rebuild and deploy to my pocket PC allowing me to debug etc but now I get
The remote connection to the device has been lost.
Please verify the device conection and restart debugging.
I used to get this problem in VS2003 sometimes and just like the numerous posts on different sites that I've looked at the problem eventually goes away and I'm none the wiser. One guy said that he found that if he went to bed the problem was resolved when he came back!
My PDA running Windows 2003 2nd Edition is directly connected to my PC via a USB port. I've rebooted my PC and done a soft reset on the PDA but it didn't help. I'm using ActiveSync 4.1.
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

I am not sure if this thread needs to go into this forum or there is one for C# stored procedures/CLR Database Objects.
To All:
Is this a known issue that when debugging CLR stored procedures the VS 2005 freezes even before reaching into the stored procedure? I can restart my computer and debugging works for a while and then it starts to take forever when I step into (F10) during debugging. I am running only one instance of sql server, and even that of my local machine as I have never been able to debug on a remote server.
This random and unstable behavior of the debugger is proving very unproductive and costly. Is there a microsoft update/fix/patch to make debugging CLR stored procedures a smooth process?

I'm having some problems debugging SQL Server stored procedures on a SQL Server 2005 server. I have installed Visual Studio 2005 on a workstation running Windows XP, now I'm trying to debug a ASP.Net web application that has some code that executes the stored procedures on a Windows 2003 Server running SQL Server 2005.
I opened VS2005 ... created a connection to the SQL Server 2005 instance ... open the Stored procedure ... right click the stored procedure name and selected Step into Stored Procedure and the following message is displayed:

Hello,
What permissions do I need to set on our new SQL Server 2005 test server so that I can see the stored procedures, views and tables from Visual Studio development environment.
Example, I can see my older SQL Server 7 tables, edit them, write stored procedures, and so on. But while I can see the SQL Server 2005 and its databases, the folder underneath are empty and I cannot right-click to create New stored procedure or table.
My guess is that there is security involved, if so, what do I set on the new server?
If I'm wrong, and it's something else entirely, please advise.

I recently installed the Evaluation Edition of SQL Server 2005 x64 and it appears that MS Visual Studio 2005 is installed in stead of SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. When I choose new project the only template available is "Blank Solution". How do I get all the templates (i.e. Analysis Server Project, Integration Services Project, Report Model Project, Report Server Wizard project, etc.)?
Or would it be better to uninstall MS Visual Studio 2005 and attempt to reinstall BIDS?

I guess this must be because it is not included with Visual studio 2005 standard. Is it included with VS 2005 professional?
I want to add pictures of products to my shopping site using an SQL database and I’ve been told that SQL Server Management studio is required as it is a graphical tool.
How would I go about obtaining the SQL server management studio. There seems to be different versions of SQL server that it is confusing to know which one to purchase.
Will the SQL server 2005 version that comes with Visual studio standard be sufficient for me now right? I want to create a shopping site with hundreds, perhaps even thousands of products. I want to use an SQL server 2005 database. The database will include ‘dynamically generated’ product images if that is the correct terminology.

I just created a stored procedure in SQL Server 2005 management studio. I went to my db and expanded the programmability folder then right clicked the stored procedures folder and created a stored procedure. I saved the procedure as sp_getDistance in the default folder SQL managment studio picked. Now when I went back to that stored procedure folder I did not see my stored procedure sp_getDistance, all that was there was the system stored procedure folder. Did I save the stored procedure in the wrong place, or what did I do wrong. I can't find the procedure anywhere, its just sitting in my My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioProjectssp_getDistance.sql folder. Thanks,Kyle Spitzer

I've got a stored procedure which does a database search for me. It is working fine, but for some reason it isn't finding what I expect. I think the problem is that the vairables are not being passed as I expect but I cannot work out how to see the intermediate SQL in the stored proc... in oracle there used to be some sort of set feedback on option which meant that all SQL which was being run was shown... is there some way of doing this in SQL Server 2005?

There's plenty of instructions online on how to debug stored procedure in the other versions of SQL Server 2005. Do any of you know how to do it?

I have just had to reinstall Visual Studio on my laptop after months of merry developing.
To debug the sprocs I have written I made use of Visual Studio's "Step into Procedure" facility that lets you run your code line by line. Its a great feature.
With the new installation in place if I right click on a sproc of interest I no longer get "Step into Procedure" on the pop-up menu.
I remember we had a bit of trouble making it appear when we installed Visual Studio last year. My boss was around that time and fixed it for me. Today he's not around.
Anyone know how to make "Step into Procedure" appear? Is there some option in Tools or something?

I dont know if I am posting this to the right area but here goes: I know there is a way you can step into a stored procedure from VS.net, but I dind't know how. I searched google and found this MS KB Article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316549
However, on step two, "Under the Servers node in Server Explorer, expand the SQL Server Machine name, expand the SQL Servers Node, ..."
The first and only item I have in the tree is my local machine name. If I expand that I do not have a SQL Servers node, all I have are: Crystal Reports Services, Event Logs Management Classes, Management Events, Message Queues, Performance Counters and Services.
The instance of SQL Server I am using is on my local machine and I am able to communicate with it. I am using TCP/IP
I figured to check the SQL Server Config Manager and see what protocols the db was using. The client protocols are Shared Memory, TCP/IP and Named Pipes (these are enabled)
I then looked at the SQL Server 2005 Services. The following are running: SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server FullText, SQL Server, SQL Server Analysis Services, SQL Server Reporting and SQL Server Agent (This was stopped but I started it) SQL Server Browser is NOT running and I can't start it. I dont know if that has anything to do with it.
Am I missing somethign?

I am trying to import Access reports using Visual Studio 2005 and Access 2007. SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services is also installed. I select Reports in the Solution Explorer and then Import Reports... Microsoft Access and browse to my Access database. After I select the database I see it open briefly as if it is trying to import the reports but then Access quickly closes and a error pops up: "You already have the database open." I have checked and double checked and the database is not open. I have even tried several different databases and the same errror occurs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I see a file under disc:vswcuSSESQLEXPR.exe I am wondering if changing that file with the new one from Microsoft Download Center will do it...
There's another file under that folder named sqlexpr32.exe I am wondering what it's for?
