Recovery :: AlwaysOn Cluster Reboot Due To File Share Witness Unavailability

Apr 23, 2015

Came across this scenario in AlwaysOn Availability Group (two node), file share witness times out and RHS terminate and cause the cluster node to reboot. File share witness is for continuous failover and if the resource is unavailable my expectation was that it should go offline and should not impact Server or Sql Server. But its rebooting the cluster node to rectify the issue.

Configuration
Windows Server 2012 R2 (VMs)
Sql Server 2012 SP2
Errors

A component on the server did not respond in a timely fashion. This caused the cluster resource 'File Share Witness' (resource type 'File Share Witness', DLL 'clusres2.dll') to exceed its time-out threshold. As part of cluster health detection, recovery actions will be taken. The cluster will try to automatically recover by terminating and restarting the Resource Hosting Subsystem (RHS) process that is running this resource. Verify that the underlying infrastructure (such as storage, networking, or services) that are associated with the resource are functioning correctly.

The cluster Resource Hosting Subsystem (RHS) process was terminated and will be restarted. This is typically associated with cluster health detection and recovery of a resource. Refer to the System event log to determine which resource and resource DLL is causing the issue.

Change The Default Service Unavailable Error Message

Feb 22, 2008

Hi All -

There are times when I need to disable Reporting Services, which I do by stopping the ReportServer application pool service in IIS, temporarily. During these times if a user attempts to access reporting services they get the default Sevice Unavailable error message. I would like to create a custom Service Unavailabile message. Does anyone know how I can do this?

Show Message If No Data

Jan 21, 2008

I'm hoping this is fairly simple to do.

I have a report with many matrices. Basically what I want to do is display a message such as "No History within Date Range Selected" if there is no data on the report (all of the matrices return no data).

Is there a way to determine if the report is returning no data and show a textbox message in that case?

Typed Data Set Error Message

Feb 14, 2008

I am using typed data sets. When a certain line of C# code is reached, I get the following error message:
Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints.
Here is my source code. I altered the table to remove all contraints and primary keys, but I still get the error message. The erroroccurs when the last line of code is reached. (_DeltaTable = myAdaptor.GetData();) The code is listed below. Does anyone know whatis going on?

Tempdb Data Has 8Mb And Log Has 1Mb - But I“m Getting Message That Log Is Full - How To Fix

Dec 21, 1998

Hello,

I have the following situation.

tempdb data file has 8Mb and log file has 1Mb - but I“m getting message that log is full.

Once tempdb is shrinked and expanded by the system (we even don“t see it at database folder!!), what can be done, (except reinstall from scrach and restore DBs) to make tempdb not vulnerable to very frequent expanding/shrinking (I guess this can be one of the root of the problem) ?

SMS Text Message Data Unreadable

Sep 23, 2014

Our company sends out sms text mesgs from our MSSQL Database and stores the responses in a table when a reply is received. My problem is now that some mesgs are showing as blank(even when I copy the raw data field out of the query return window) yet when I check the length of the field, it contains data. I set the field to a Temp Variable and converted the contents to ascii and definitely found that it shows data.

We use this reply as a rating system and I have queries and functions that extract the info I need, the problem is that I need to convert this field into a readable field first before I can extract the info.

SQL example:

Select T2.ReceivedData , Datalength(T2.ReceivedData) Length
FROM DMZWEB01.[SMS_SERVICE].[dbo].[Sent] T1
LEFT JOIN DMZWEB01.[SMS_SERVICE].[dbo].[Reply] T2 ON T1.ID = T2.ID
INNER JOIN Clm_ClaimsRegister T3 ON T1.PolicyNumber = T3.Claim_No
Where T1.id = 1158008

This returns a blank field and a datalength of 6.

To prove that the field contains data, a query that can run is:

DECLARE @Temp VarChar(8) =
(Select T2.ReceivedData
FROM DMZWEB01.[SMS_SERVICE].[dbo].[Sent] T1
LEFT JOIN DMZWEB01.[SMS_SERVICE].[dbo].[Reply] T2 ON T1.ID = T2.ID
INNER JOIN Clm_ClaimsRegister T3 ON T1.PolicyNumber = T3.Claim_No
Where T1.id = 1158008

[Code] ...

This returns < Line numbers >

1>
2>1
3>
4>0
5>&
6>:
7>

the actual field is pasted between these two comment '' signs below
''
see? nothing

Can't Find Or Load Message DLL. Message DLL Must Be In Path Or In Current Directory.

Jul 23, 2007

In my SQL Server, I see the below message in the Application Event Viewer

"18265 :

Log backed up: Database: HSD, creation date(time): 2007/01/06(05:05:05), first LSN: 1439:495055:1, last LSN: 1439:496675:1, number of dump devices: 1, device information: (FILE=1, TYPE=DISK: {'D:MSSQLBACKUPHSDHSD_tlog_200707141300.TRN'})."

When I save the application event viewer and open it in another server, I do not see the above message, instead I get the following message:

" Can't find or load message DLL. Message DLL must be in path or in current directory."

Any thoughts to overcome this problem is appreciated.

Mail Message Body With Data From Two Tables

Oct 27, 2013

I need to set a trigger so that an email is generated when a row is inserted into the ABC_DB_OnlineFormsConfirm table. The message will include data not only from that table, but from a related table called ABC_DB_OnlineForms. The common field between the two is FormID. This is related to an online account application process where the user has the option of completing it in one session, or saving it and coming back at a later time. Once the user has completed the first screen and clicks continue, a record is written to ABC_DB_OnlineForms. At the very end, when he clicks ā€œSave and Completeā€, a row is written to the ABC_DB_OnlineForms table. I would like the body of the email to include three separate lines, as follows. The first two pieces of data come from the OnlineForms table and the third from OnlineFormsConfirm. The field names are userid, IRSBackup and ConfirmationCode.

UserID:
Subject to IRS Backup Withholding?:
Confirmation Code:

What I have below results in an email body that contains the confirmation code all by itself. If I switch @body=@MessageBody to @body=@UserID or @body=@Backup, it will report the correct single piece of data, but I have no idea how to get all three pieces at once as separate lines including the leading descriptor (UserID:, Confirmation Code, etc.).

CREATE TRIGGER SendEmail
ON [ABC].[dbo].[ABC_DB_OnlineFormsConfirm]
AFTER INSERT
AS
Begin
Declare @MessageBody varchar(100)

String Or Binary Data Would Be Truncated Error Message

Aug 9, 2006

I am getting the message ("string or binary data would be truncated") when trying to update a field in a table in my database, but am unclear as to why. I understand that the error usually occurs when the length of a string exceeds the limit allowed for a field in the database, but in this situation, that constraint should not apply. The length of the field for which I am trying to make the update is a varchar field of length 100. The value for which I am attempting to update is an e-mail address of length 42 of the format xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@yahoo.com. The initial insertion of the value (via my website) succeeded in inserting the first 40 characters of the address, but cut off the "om" at the end. It doesn't seem to matter how large I make the field in the database as it always gives me this error when I try to make the update. I have tried to change the value in both Query Analyzer and Enterprise Manager, but I invariably receive the same error.Any ideas?

Error Message: Data Mining Query Builder Cannot....

Mar 12, 2007

Hello,

I wrote a data mining plug-in algorithm in SSAS and now I am trying to view the lift chart in Management Studio. The studio gives the following error:

"The Data Mining Query builder control cannot be initialized due to the following problem:
Deserialization failed: Multiple definition of element 'Column12' causes the content model to become ambigious. A content model must be formed such that during validation of an element information item sequence, the particle contained directly, indirectly or implicitly therein with which to attempt to validate each item in the sequence in turn can be uniquely determined without examining the content or attributes of that item, and without any information about the items in the remainder of the sequence."

I really do not understand what i did wrong. Can anybody help me?

Default Data Types In SQl Server

Feb 2, 2006

Is there a way to change the default data type in SQL Server? If I import a database into SQL Server it makes every non-numeric field a nvarchar field. Is there a way to change this so that these fields would be varchar or char by default? I cannot find any way to redo these as a batch/group update and have to modify every single field manually. Any insights greatly appreciated.

((0)) Set As Default Value Or Binding For An Int Data Type

Jun 5, 2007

Hi there,

I'm trying to set an int type attribute to 0 for its Default Value, but it keeps reverting to ((0)). What is causing this?

Every int type attribute on that table does the same. There is one bit type attribute and a bunch of other type of attributes, but non of them are giving me a problem. The table is a copy from another database and I did check all the constraints and properties to make sure they're the same.

Thank you,

Excel Data Mining Add-In Query Wizard Error Message

May 1, 2007

Hello Experts,

I have an error message I was wondering if anyone else has seen and resolved. When I open excel and click on the query wizard on the Data Mining Ribbon, I get an error message that says "Input String not in Correct Format"

After I close this dialog box the 'Welcome to Query .... ' wizard will open, but when I select the Advance button my process aborts due to the input string error.

I have only ran association models on the computer.

The Manage Models and Browse buttons work fine.

The error came up on Friday, but it wasn't there on Thursday. There were no changes done to the machine (no installation of new software).

I have tried reinstalling the add-in.

Thank you all for your help,

Davy

I have pasted the SQL syntax below that I get from the error dialog box after the query wizard closes.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Push Merge Snapshot Fails With Data Is Null Message.

Mar 10, 2006

Hi,

I'm converting a replication script from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005.

I am getting an error with push merge with no way to figure out what is wrong.

I've configured replication on a single XP server in SQL 2005 RTM version.

I have a push merge set up between A and B and between B and C. All 3 databases are 9.0 compatibility.

The snapshot and merge jobs for the A to B run fine with no errors, and merge replicates ok.

The snapshot for B to C fails with this message:

Love that exception message: "Data is Null" - very helpful to someone who is clairvoyant perhaps.
I checked the snapshot bcp files. The tables being merged all have data.

A sample add article command is:

exec sp_addmergearticle @publication = N'MyMerge', @article = N'Phone', @processing_order = 4, @source_owner = N'dbo', @source_object = N'Phone', @type = N'table', @description = null, @column_tracking = N'true', @pre_creation_cmd = N'drop', @creation_script = null, @schema_option = 0x000000004C42CDDF, @article_resolver = null, @subset_filterclause = null, @vertical_partition = N'false', @destination_owner = N'dbo', @verify_resolver_signature = 0, @allow_interactive_resolver = N'false', @fast_multicol_updateproc = N'true', @check_permissions = 0, @identityrangemanagementoption = N'none' ,@force_invalidate_snapshot = 1,@force_reinit_subscription = 1

If you have any ideas on how to fix this, I'd be most grateful. As it is after 6pm I probably won't read this again until morning. Thanks for any suggestions.

SQL Data Source Default Timedate Format.

Sep 27, 2007

Hello Everybody,
I have a problem that when I insert a date 06.04.2007 on my
computer it is interpreted in European style (meaning: dd/MM/yyyy)
and the same code on another computer is interpreted in American
style (MM/dd/yyyy). So on one computer 06.04 means 6th on April, and
on others 4th of June. The question is how can I programatically set
that all the SQLDataSources (or en every one of them separately) take
the date from the text box in one or the other way ā€“ not depending
on local settings (it does not matter for me too much which one -
just so that it always works the same way. It would be better for me
to use European style though). All the best,Joseph

And furthermore, is there asystem stored procedure I can use to move existing data and log files(master, msdb, AdventureWorks, etc.)? I seem to remember doing justthis with SQL 2000 some time back. Thanks,Eric

Default Data Directory And Access Upsizing

Apr 15, 2006

I've created a number of very large databases in Ms Access that I would like to upsize to SQL Server Express. I changed the default data directory location to point to a separate drive with over 400GB of free space on my home pc. However, everytime I try to upsize or link databases using the MS Access Upsizing Wizard the data is saved in the Data directory on my current hard drive and is not saved in the default location I specified. If I create a new database in SQL Express it is saved to the new location. Any ideas on how to force upsizing or uplinked data to go to the new default data location?

The Data Flow's Default Destination Component

Dec 10, 2007

Is there a default destination component used when a new data flow is created? The reason I ask is simply curiosity. I have an xml file with 2 pieces of data: item A and item B. A should simply get copied out of the file. B should undergo a quick transform. I set up an XML source such that two columns are mapped correctly to the XML source data of A and B. I set up my data transform task as well. So, if I leave those two components on the .dtsx page with no other components, then will there be a default data flow destination already created? ...OR, do you always have to have a destination component?

Thanks for the input. I am just curious.

New Data Source Showing Only Default Instance

Dec 27, 2006

I have two instances in SQL on my machine. When creating a New Data Source in BIDS, I can only see the default instance. I have checked the SAC manager to make sure the second instance allows remote connections and the setting are exactly the same as the default. Any ideas? Thanks.

Default Values For SQL Server Data Types

Jul 12, 2007

Hi,

I need to populate some SqlParameter but I temporarily need to populate with a default value for the data type in question. Of course I can work them out, but I was wondering if there is already a way of doing this, from the .Net Classes or from SQL Server but without making a trip to the DB.

Thanks

John
