Delete Fields In MS SQL 2005
Jun 15, 2008Hi experts,
I would like to ask on how to delete fields in SQL 2005 using SQL scripts?
Hi experts,
I would like to ask on how to delete fields in SQL 2005 using SQL scripts?
the table is like :
ID F1 F2 F3
--- --- --- ---
1 A 1 VR
2 B 2 VR
3 A 3 VF
4 A 2 VF
5 B 1 VF
......
the rules is:
if there are rows with same values of F3 field,then choose the top 1 row order by F1,F2 in the group,and delete other rows.
how can I delete rows with ID in (2 , 3 , 5)?
I want to select all the fields from just one table
This is what i have and i am having trouble selecting all the fields
select * from ace_users
where chdata EXISTS
(select chdata, count(chserialnum)
from ace_users
group by chdata
having count(chserialnum)> 1)
Exists and IN does not work.
How can i print or export all fields for all tables in my sql 2005 db?

I have a MS Access (MDB) file with a table with 2 date fields, i want to read from a dialog on my app (on MS Visual .NET Studio 2005), here's the code I've been using do far:
Code Snippet
hr=theApp.m_cs.Open(theApp.m_ds);
if(SUCCEEDED(hr)) {
theApp.m_cs.StartTransaction();
theApp.m_cs.Commit();
CCommand< CDynamicAccessor > cmd;
CComBSTR query(_T("SELECT NumContrato, NumClie, FechaC, FechaCob, Inversion, NoCobrador, NoVendedor, Total, Plazo, Pagos FROM Contrato"));
CString string(query.m_str);
cmd.Open(theApp.m_cs,string);
hr = cmd.MoveFirst();
query=static_cast< BSTR >(cmd.GetValue(1));
CString csres(query.m_str);
this->m_numc=(int)*(query.m_str);
query=static_cast< BSTR >(cmd.GetValue(2));
m_numcte=(int)*(query.m_str);
query=static_cast< BSTR >(cmd.GetValue(3));
//m_fecc=(int)*(query.m_str);
MessageBox(csres);
theApp.m_cs.Close();
}
FechaC, FechaCob, are the two Dates I want to retrieve, but when I debug, it reads a 0 (zero) from the date fields, is there a limitation? can they be read? is there a special way to read them?

Hi,
I have a query that uses the following fields from MSmerge_history:
MSmerge_history.start_time, MSmerge_history.runstatus and MSmerge_history.duration
Below is the query that I am using:
SELECT
MSmerge_agents.subscriber_name AS SubscriberName,
MSmerge_history.start_time AS SyncTime,
MSmerge_history.runstatus AS SyncStatusID,
MSmerge_history.comments AS Comments,
MSmerge_history.duration AS Duration
FROM distribution.dbo.MSmerge_agents MSmerge_agents INNER JOIN distribution.dbo.MSmerge_history MSmerge_history
ON MSmerge_agents.id = MSmerge_history.agent_id
WHERE MSmerge_history.runstatus IN (2, 6) AND publisher_db = DB_NAME()
AND MSmerge_agents.subscriber_name + CONVERT(nvarchar, MSmerge_history.start_time) NOT IN
(SELECT SubscriberName + CONVERT(nvarchar, SyncTime) FROM SyncActivities)
My query runs fine under SQL Server 2000 but when I run it in SQL Server 2005, it doesn't work any more. Looking at MSmerge_history table under SQL Server 2005, this fields have been removed. Does anyone know where I can access those fields? Is it in another table?
thanks

I've got an application I've written that should be able to (using a table) insert, update or delete records in SQL Server 2005. It can insert and update fine but it cannot delete any records. I'm totally stumped for how to figure out what's going on. I can remote on to the Windows 2003 Enterprise Server without any trouble so I should be able to read any log files or open the SQL Managemenent tools. How do I figure out what the issue is? It's a very strange thing and I'm stumped.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am developing an application with ASP .NET 2.0 using SQL Server 2005. I have a very detailed set of relational tables I would like to use to store my data, however I would like to use the built in Membership functionality of .NET 2.0.What I've done is created MembershipProvider that on user creation links the aspnet_Users table to my custome User table.UserFK guid aspNetId int userIdI then use my own userId to link into other data which uses their PKs to link to other tables, etc, etc like any good relational DB should.My question is when I delete a user using the ASP .NET interface I get a contraint error because my User table references the aspnet_Userts.UserId. I initially wanted to toss Cascade On Delete on my tables which would take care of my problem. I was shocked to find out Sql Server 2005 doesnt support Cascades.. and its suggested that Triggers be used instead (ill durned if im gonna make triggers for all my tables)My question is, what is the best practice in deleting from tabled linked with PK/FK relationships? There MUST be a good way to handle this.thanks

Hi,
I simply need a trigger to delete some datasets from a view but have some trouble writing an adequate trigger. Here is my attempt:
Use myDB;
Go
CREATE TRIGGER IO_Trig_Del_myView ON myView
INSTEAD OF Delete
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON
-- Check for dataset, if present delete.
IF (EXISTS (SELECT Z.[myPk]
FROM myTable t, deleted
WHERE t.[myPk] = deleted.[myPk]))
Delete From myTable
Where myTable.[myPk] = deleted.[myPk]...
This causes the following failure:
Msg 4104, Level 16, State 1, Procedure IO_Trig_Del_myView, Line 11
The multi-part identifier "deleted.myPK" could not be bound.
Can somebody explain the reason to me? myPk is part of the View I created. Since I do have three tables in myView so I get that message three times, once per table.
I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.
I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.
For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.
When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.
Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

I'm using SQL Server 2005 (product version = 9.00.1406.00, product level = RTM, and edition = Developer Edition). I have a db with a number of tables; I created a Foreign Key in one table and added a Foreign Key w/ ON DELETE CASCADE to it -- all using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. When I delete the record in the table with the foreign key, the record in the other table does not get deleted. I tried doing this with a simple SQL script in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and in a simple .Net / ADO (C#-based) program. Only the record in the table that I'm specifically deleting is deleted.
Here's the table that is referenced by the foreign key (I told Server Management Studio to write out the script):
USE [CHNOPSDb]
GO
/****** Object: Table [dbo].[tblDeviceContainer] Script Date: 08/13/2007 16:47:03 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tblDeviceContainer](
[ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[DeviceContainerTypeID] [int] NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT [PK_tblDeviceContainer] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
[ID] ASC
)WITH (IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF) ON [PRIMARY]
) ON [PRIMARY]
Here's the table that has the foreign key to the above table (again, I told Management Studio to write out the script):
USE [CHNOPSDb]
GO
/****** Object: Table [dbo].[tblNode] Script Date: 08/13/2007 16:46:40 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
SET ANSI_PADDING ON
GO
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tblNode](
[ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[NodeName] [varchar](50) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL,
[NodeTypeID] [int] NOT NULL,
[UnitID] [int] NOT NULL,
[pDeviceContainerID] [int] NOT NULL,
[NodeIndex] [int] NULL,
CONSTRAINT [PK_Node] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
[ID] ASC
)WITH (IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF) ON [PRIMARY]
) ON [PRIMARY]
GO
SET ANSI_PADDING OFF
GO
USE [CHNOPSDb]
GO
ALTER TABLE [dbo].[tblNode] WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_tblNode_tblDeviceContainer] FOREIGN KEY([pDeviceContainerID])
REFERENCES [dbo].[tblDeviceContainer] ([ID])
ON DELETE CASCADE
I then perform a delete using the following:
Use CHNOPSDb;
delete from tblNode where ID = 1;
It deletes the tblNode record but doesn't delete the tblDeviceContainer record that is referenced by tblNode.
Any help?
Thanks,
Bill
I am using MFC ODBC classes in my VC++ application for database accesss (on a SQL Server 2005 Database).
After opening a Recordset I have to use the CRecordset::GetFieldValue( LPCTSTR lpszName, CDBVariant& varValue, short nFieldType = DEFAULT_FIELD_TYPE ) method of the CRecordset object to obtain field values. The above method works fine with ODBC drivers for Jet but when I use ODBC for SQL Server it throws the following exception.
State:S1002,Native:0,Origin:[Microsoft][
ODBC SQL Server Driver] Invalid

I don't understand why the Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver is throwing this
exception.

We have a secuiry review and they have recommended dropping several xp_ stored procedures. I have tried the drop procedure with no luck, Error 3701, or right click delete in Man Studio, same error. I have granted the user alter permission to the master database and when I try to delete get Error 4606. I try to grant CONTROL permission of the stored proc to the user and get another 4606 error.
Do I just have to control the permissions of these procedures tightly?

Hi,
I have been working around with SQL Server Express 2005 on VISTA. I created a small C++2008 application which interface with SSE 2005. When running my application, it automatically created a user instance which I would like to get rid of. I just forgot from start to set "User Instance = False" in my connectionstring. (oups...)
I'm aware, from readings I did, that a couple of tables as well as log files, etc. are created under directory "utilisateurs...AppDataLocalMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server DataSQLEXPRESS". SQLEXPRESS is the instance name chosen during install of SSE2005.
Also using following SQL Statement:
select owning_principal_name, instance_pipe_name, heart_beat
from sys.dm_os_child_instances
I got following result:
owning_principal_name: PC-DE-STEPHANEStéphane
instance_pipe_name: \.pipe6172F4E8-622E-4A sqlquery
heart_beat: dead (at this moment...)
==> How can I make a good cleanup of all this as well as get rid of the user instance itself?
Thanks in advance for any help.

We had one of the major issues where one of the table on a heavily used OLTP database seems to have updated the records which were not expected.
Scenario:
We got around more than 12K contracts updated to status expired even though the expiry date is not set to be so:
for E.G : Below table has a column contract status which overnight seems to have updated the values to expired.
Even though the start and expiry date does not follow the logic for above.
We had the above working for past 3 years via a SP scheduled via SQL agent Job which Expire active contracts whose expiration date is less than today's 12:00AM.There has been no change in SP.
How can i track how it happened and what caused it?
I used the toolbox to select maintenance cleanup task to create the job to do this. In reading similar notes regarding this problem, some people mentioned that there was a choice to include subfolders. I do not have this choice. When I execute select @@version I get Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3042.00 (X64) Feb 10 2007 00:59:02 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) . I am using Master Data Service for couple of months now. I can load, update, merge and soft delete data in MDS. Occasionally we even have to hard delete data from MDS. If we keep on soft deleting records in a MDS table eventually there will be huge number of soft deleted records. Is there an easy way to hard delete all the soft deleted records from all MDS tables in a specific Model.
View 18 Replies View RelatedHello:
Need some serious help with this one...
Background:
Am working on completing an ORM that can not only handles CRUD actions -- but that can also updates the structure of a table transparently when the class defs change. Reason for this is that I can't get the SQL scripts that would work for updating a software on SqlServer to be portable to other DBMS systems. Doing it by code, rather than SQL batch has a chance of making cross-platform, updateable, software...
Anyway, because it needs to be cross-DBMS capable, the constraints are that the system used must work for the lowest common denominator....ie, a 'recipe' of steps that will work on all DBMS's.
The Problem:
There might be simpler ways to do this with SqlServer (all ears :-) - just in case I can't make it cross platform right now) but, with simplistic DBMS's (SqlLite, etc) there is no way to ALTER table once formed: one has to COPY the Table to a new TMP name, adding a Column in the process, then delete the original, then rename the TMP to the original name.
This appears possible in SqlServer too --...as long as there are no CASCADE operations.
Truncate table doesn't seem to be the solution, nor drop, as they all seem to trigger a Cascade delete in the Foreign Table.
So -- please correct me if I am wrong here -- it appears that the operations would be
along the lines of:
a) Remove the Foreign Key references
b) Copy the table structure, and make a new temp table, adding the column
c) Copy the data over
d) Add the FK relations, that used to be in the first table, to the new table
e) Delete the original
f) Done?
The questions are:
a) How does one alter a table to REMOVE the Foreign Key References part, if it has no 'name'.
b) Anyone know of a good clean way to get, and save these constraints to reapply them to the new table. Hopefully with some cross platform ADO.NET solution? GetSchema etc appears to me to be very dbms dependant?
c) ANY and all tips on things I might run into later that I have not mentioned, are also greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Sky
