Delete Matching Rows From Target

Apr 27, 2008

Hi

I am very new to SSIS and currently was reading through various manuals but couldnt find a way to do a simple delete.

STAGE_ORDERS looks something like

order_id order_value
100 50000
300 70000
.....

Orders table looks like
order_id order_value
100 9000
200 1000
300 8000

now i want to use SSIS to delete the orders 100,300 which are present in staging table from the orders table .

How do i accomplish this task since i dont see a delete transformation.

How about updates if i want to update the order values from the staging table to the orders table what transformation can accomplish this

regards
Hrishy

Delete Rows From A Table Matching A Calculated Date

Apr 15, 2008

Hello I am new to SSIS and learning as I go. Any guidance to my questions would be appreciated.

I wrote a script that takes the current date and subtracts a number of days/months from this date. I then attempted to use an SQL Task as a select with a parameter using the calculated date from the script. I was not successful in doing this. While performing searches on the WEB with the hopes of finding a solution I came upon the following text in the Microsoft forum under EXECUTE SQL TASK.

When you use an OLE DB Connection Manager, you cannot use parameterized subqueries because the Execute SQL task cannot derive parameter information through the OLE DB provider. However, you can use an expression to concatenate the parameter values into the query string and to set the SqlStatementSource property of the task.

Having come upon this statement I moved on to putting together an OLE DB SOURCE with a Flat File Destination. The SQL that I wrote is:

SELECT BP_ID, INVC_NBR, INVC_DT, BUS_ADD_DT
FROM DW.CUST_SALE_ADDR
WHERE (BUS_ADD_DT = ?)

The flat file destination was mainly used to confirm the select.

Having confirmed my select, I changed the select in the OLE DB SOURCE as follows:

DELETE FROM DW.CUST_SALE_ADDR
WHERE (BUS_ADD_DT = ?)

I also removed the Flat File Destination. Needless to say when I tried to run the package I did not get very far as a package validation error was encountered since there were no output columns.

Can you share how I should go about peforming the delete as described from the table based on a calculated date? And am I not understanding the comment regarding the SQL Statement and the use of parameters?

Thank you and God Bless.

Delete Syntax To Delete A Record From One Table If A Matching Value Isn't Found In Another

Nov 17, 2006

I'm trying to clean up a database design and I'm in a situation to where two tables need a FK but since it didn't exist before there are orphaned records.

Tables are:

Brokers and it's PK is BID

The 2nd table is Broker_Rates which also has a BID table.

I'm trying to figure out a t-sql statement that will parse through all the recrods in the Broker_Rates table and delete the record if there isn't a match for the BID record in the brokers table.

I know this isn't correct syntax but should hopefully clear up what I'm asking

DELETE FROM Broker_Rates

WHERE (Broker_Rates.BID <> Broker.BID)

Thanks

SQL Server 2008 :: MERGE And Delete From Target

Mar 12, 2015

I'm not even sure this is possible but I'm using MERGE in a process that has 3 source tables (the process steps through each source table sequentially) and I need to delete from the Target database occasionally.

My current code is

sqlMerge = "MERGE " + TableName + " AS target USING @CData AS source" +
" ON target.TotRsp = source.TotRsp AND target.ClientRef = source.ClientRef AND target.dbPatID = source.dbPatID" +
" WHEN MATCHED THEN" +
" UPDATE SET dbPatFirstName = source.dbPatFirstName, dbPatLastName = source.dbPatLastName,

[Code] ....

The Target db data is made up from several different clients and when the MERGE runs it uses TotRsp, ClientRef and dbPatID to uniquely match a source row to the target row and if no match it inserts the source row.

My problem is that when this runs with Source A first, it will delete all merged data from Source B & C. Then when Source B runs it will insert all Source B data but delete all from A & C and so on.

Is there way that that I can include additional clauses into NOT MATCHED BY SOURCE THEN so it knows only to delete when data has come from say Source A. Once the data is in the target table there is no reference to which source table it came from tho.

If there isn't a solution I suppose I could always add an extra column to the target db to indicate which source it came from and then have something like

NOT MATCHED BY SOURCE AND t.Source = 'SourceA'.

That's quite a bit of work my end to do that tho so I'd like to be sure it works.

Find Matching Sets Of Rows

Apr 11, 2006

Given an ID (column B), I need to find which IDs have identical data. That is, given '200', I want the desired result to be:100The idea is that the system sees that id=200 has 5 records with theindicated data in cols C and D.It should then find any other ids with the exact same data for thosecolumns.Note, in this case, both 200 and 100 have (30:1, 30:2, 30:3, 40:4,40:5) so they match. 300 and 400 should NOT be returned.Any bright ideas out there? Sp_helprotect Error If No Matching Rows

Aug 28, 2006

Why does sp_helprotect throw an error if there are no special security permissions for a specified @username?  Why not simply return a blank resultset?  This makes the procedure a hassle to use when trying to capture results into a table as part of another stored procedure (use it for auditing).

[Edited]The same problem occurs when I execute xp_logininfo to get the list of members for a group that has no members.  Instead of just passing back some sort of status, the procedure blows up and keeps me from scripting the procedure.

Am I just missing something?

Need A Query To Return Rows Containing ALL Matching Fields

Sep 9, 2004

I have three tables X,Y,Z. Table 'Y' is having foreign key constraints on tables 'X' and 'Z' (which happen to be primary key tables).
I would like to run a query in which I can retrieve rows from Table 'X' only if the matching rows in Table 'Y' have "ALL" their matching rows available in a simple query being run on Table "Z".
The "All" part is very important.

For more clarification, let me give you an example. Table "X" is equivalent to a mathematical "Equation" table which consists of an equation made up of several "Fields". These fields are stored in Table "Z". Table "Y" contains the primary keys from Tables "X" and "Z". i.e. Table "Y" determines what fields are required for an equation to be complete.

I am having a query "Q" on Table "Z" (Fields table) which returns me a bunch of Fields. Now, on the basis of these fields, I want to retrieve only those Equations (Table "X") which have "ALL" their required Fields present in the bunch retrieved by the Query "Q".

I hope I am clear enough.
Does anyone have any solutions???

Transact SQL :: Get Rows Not Matching Prior Year

Apr 25, 2015

We were asked to fix a query to get rows from a prior year history table that did not match to rows in the current year to show a variance from one year to the next. Rows must match on [corpnbr],[plincd],[pgrpcd] and [pitmcd].  If the combination has rows in the current and prior year ([hstyr]) then everything is fine. However, if they have rows in the prior year (e.g. [hstyr]='2014') but not in the current year (e.g. [hstyr]='2015') then they do not show in the result.  Below is how they designed the table and below that is the stored procedure to pull the records.

SQL Server 2008 :: MERGE Statement - Cannot Filter Set Of Rows In Target Table

Feb 10, 2015

I have a table:

declare tableName table
(
uniqueid int identity(1,1),
id int,
starttime datetime2(0),
endtime datetime2(0),
parameter int
)

A stored procedure has new set of values for a given id. Sometimes the startime and endtime are the same, in which case I update the value of parameter. Sometimes I add a new time range (insert statement), and sometimes I delete a time range (delete statement).

I had a question on merge, with insert, delete and update and I got that resolved. However I have a different question regarding performance of the merge statement.

If my target table has hundreds of millions of records and I want to delete/update/insert a handful of records, will SQL server scan the entire target table? I can't have:

merge ( select * from tableName where id = 10 ) as target
using ...

and I can't have:

merge tableName as target
using [my query] as source on
source.id = target.id and
source.starttime = target.startime and
source.endtime = target.endtime
where target.id = 10
...

This means I cannot filter the set of rows in the target table to a handful of records where id = 10.

Transact SQL :: String Function To Extract Matching Rows

4       4
5       1,2,3,4,5,CAN
6       10

I'd like to write a script to return only those rows WHERE ProductID = CAN along with other values in the same column. In this example, I'd like to return rows 5 & 8. How can I write this in T-SQL? So, say, check if ProductID has a comma ',' value plus the 'CAN' string. If yes, then return that row. If I use the LIKE operator, it'll return rows 1,5,7, and 8.

Reporting Services :: Lookup Matching Fields In Rows Of Data

Jul 16, 2015

Our division has approximately 300 employees.  We have an annual shift bid where seniority is calculated using Date of Hire.  If 2 or more employees share the same Date of Hire then we fall back to Date of Application.  Currently the SSRS report does a very simple query and shows all the employees in order of their Date of Hire.  If they match then it sorts the matching Date of Hire entries alphabetically by the employee name.  It then becomes the task of the scheduler to locatethe entries with the same Date of Hire and manually look up the employees' dates of applications then sort them accordingly and re-write the report.

Goal:
Convert the manual process into an automatic process by modifying the current SSRS report.
Data:
The dataset is "DivDir" which contains the following fields:  "EmpName", "DofHire", & "AppDate".

EmpName    DofHire         AppDate
Adam ......   12/2/1996      11/15/1996
Bob ..... .... 1/16/1997       12/27/1996
Charlie ....... 1/16/1997      12/12/1996
Dan ......   ... 4/11/2001     3/22/2001

In the above example I want the SSRS report to list the employees in this order:  Adam, Charlie, Bob, Dan.How do I do this programmatically using SSRS?

Delete Doesn't Delete Rows, But @@ROWCOUNT Says It Did

Aug 20, 2007

I ran the following query in Query Analyzer on a machine running SQL Server 2000. I'm attempting to delete from a linked server running SQL Server 2005:

DELETE FROM sql2005.production.dbo.products
WHERE vendor='Foo'
AND productId NOT IN
(
SELECT productId FROM sql2000.staging.dbo.fooProductList
)

The status message (and @@ROWCOUNT) told me 8 rows were affected, but nothing was actually deleted; when I ran a SELECT with the same criteria as the DELETE, all 8 rows are still there. So, once more I tried the DELETE command. This time it told me 7 rows were affected; when I ran the SELECT again, 5 of the rows were still there. Finally, after running this exact same DELETE query 5 times, I was able to remove all 8 rows. Each time it would tell me that a different number of rows had been deleted, and in no case was that number accurate.

I've never seen anything like this before. Neither of the tables involved were undergoing any other changes. There's no replication going on, or anything else that should introduce any delays. And I run queries like this all day, involving every thinkable combination of 2000 and 2005 servers, that don't give me any trouble.

Does anyone have suggestions on what might cause this sort of behavior?

Returning Matching/Non Matching Records

Feb 4, 2007

Hi All

I have a strange request that might not be possible based on the laws of relational databases but I thought I'd give it a try.

I have three tables which for simplicity I will call A, B and C. Table A contains my master records, Table B contains user details and the final table contains some extra data

In my initial search when joining A and B, I return 100 records. I then need to search in table C for these 100 records based on a criteria. the expected result should return all 100 rows for the ones that match and also the ones that do not match. The problem is that in Table C, not all the 100 IDs exist, so there will not be a corresponding record. Unfortunately, our users still want to see all 100 records in the output. Is this possible

As always any help or direction would be appreciated.

Delete Many Rows

Mar 17, 2006

Hi All,I am designing a purge process for a db that has grown to almost 200GB.My purge process will remove about 1/3 of the 500 million rows spreadover seven tables. Currently there are about 35 indexes defined onthose seven tables. My question is will there be a performance gain bydropping those indexes, doing my purge, and re-creating the indexes. Iam afraid that leaving those indexes in place will create a lot ofextra overhead in my delete statements by having to maintain theindexes. I know that it could take many hours to rebuild the indexesafterward, but I am planning on doing that anyway. The reason that Iwant to know whether I should drop the indexes ahead of time, is I maynot be able to do the entire purge at once and the tables may need tobe accessed between purges. If this occurs, I will need to have thoseindexes in place. So do I drop the indexes before the purge and re-create them later ordo I leave them in place and re-index them afterward? Thanks In Advancep.h.

SQL Query - Delete All Rows Bar The Last 10? Help Please!

Jan 6, 2008

Hi,
I'm really not very good at SQL sadly, so would really appreciate any help.
I'm basically working on a website that has a chatroom. I want it so the chatroom table only holds, say 15 lines of chat, then once a new line of chat is entered the last line in the table is deleted, so the table always has a maximum of just 15 rows.
The fields are:
MessageID
Poster
Message
DateTime
I've tried my best, but just don't know how to do it.
I suppose it's something like:
SELECT TOP 15 * FROM Chatroom ORDER BY MessageID DESC - this gives me the last 15 rows.
Then I need a delete statement to delete the rest?! Sorry, I am very bad at SQL, so any help would be great. This is written in a stored procedure.
Can the stored procedure pick up whether there are 15 or more rows in the table, and if so then delete all bar the newest 15 rows of chat?
To summarise: I want a stored procedure that checks if 15 or more rows exist, if they do then delete all bar the newest 15 rows.
Thanks,
Ricky
