View 11 RepliesI'm trying to clean up a database design and I'm in a situation to where two tables need a FK but since it didn't exist before there are orphaned records.
Tables are:
Brokers and it's PK is BID
The 2nd table is Broker_Rates which also has a BID table.
I'm trying to figure out a t-sql statement that will parse through all the recrods in the Broker_Rates table and delete the record if there isn't a match for the BID record in the brokers table.
I know this isn't correct syntax but should hopefully clear up what I'm asking
DELETE FROM Broker_Rates
WHERE (Broker_Rates.BID <> Broker.BID)
Thanks
Hi All,I have a table in SQL Server 2000 that contains several million memberids. Some of these member ids are duplicated in the table, and eachrecord is tagged with a 1 or a 2 in [recsrc] to indicate where theycame from.I want to remove all member ids records from the table that have arecsrc of 1 where the same member id also exists in the table with arecsrc of 2.So, if the member id has a recsrc of 1, and no other record exists inthe table with the same member id and a recsrc of 2, I want it leftuntouched. So, in a theortetical dataset of member id and recsrc:0001, 10002, 20001, 20003, 10004, 2I am looking to only delete the first record, because it has a recsrcof 1 and there is another record in the table with the same member idand a recsrc of 2.I'd very much appreciate it if someone could help me achieve this!Much warmth,Murray
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to find out how to capture record count for a table in oracle using SSIS and then writing that value in a SQL Server table.
I understand that I can use a variable to accomplish this task. Well first issue I run into is that what import statement do I need to use in the design script section of Script Task. I see that in many examples following statement is used for SQL Server databases:
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Which Import statement I need to use to for Oracle database. I am using a OLE DB Connection.
any idea?

Please tell me the 4 ways to know the record count of a table?
View 14 Replies View RelatedHi.
My boss would like a list of all the tables in a specific database and their record counts. There are over 80 tables in this database, so doing one by one is not something I have time for.
Does anyone know of a system table that stores this information or an easy way of doing this?
Please help.
Thanks,

Here's a little sql 2005 script I wrote:
1. Start by running this script....
declare @x int
select @x = 1
while ( @x < 75000)
begin
insert into myTesttable values (@x)
Select @x = @x + 1
end
2. While the script is still running, I want to know how many records are in the table. From the same query window as the script, I have run both of the following statements.
select count(*) from mytesttable
witn (nolock)
select count(*) from mytesttable
witn (tablock)
Instead of getting the answer immediately, they run only after the original script has completed. They seem to be "blocked". How can I get a near realtime count of the number of records in this table while the script populates the table?

I will try my best to explain this, We have a shopping cart on our website, the person that was developing this has now left the company and I've been given the job to finish it off.
When I load all the items that the user has entered in to his/her cart I return the Item ID and the RowNumber (ROW_NUMBER() OVER (Order by Id) AS RowNumber)
I'm trying to delete the item from the table using the following query
DELETE FROM [dbo].[Cart.Items] WHERE UniqueID = UniqueID and ItemID = @ItemID and @RowNumber IN (
SELECT ROW_NUMBER() OVER (Order by Id) AS RowNumber)
Now the reason we are using the RowNumber is because the user can add the same Item as many times as they like so for example you buy 3 different mobile phones, and you want three screen protectors, they will click screen protector 3 times which will add 3 records in to the db with the same id. so the row number is used to find the correct one.
But the above delete is not working.
Hi All,
I have just one corrupted record on a table: I copied everything else to another table but I can't delete or rename the old one!
Is restoring the whole DB my only way out there?
Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated!
Cheers
I like to give First Name and Last Name in two different text box and then hit the delete button (command button). Then it will do a query to find the person and delete the corresponding record from the table. Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Table A
id, name
101, jones
102, smith
103, williams
104, johnson
105, brown
106, green

I need to delete records from Table A that are not in Table B. My front end is writen in .net and I am using Data Access Layer along with a Business Logic Layer for data interaction.
I have tried at least seven variations of joining, right outer join, left outer join resulting in wiping our the entire table or nothing at all; not to mention deleting the record that ought to remain and keeping the record that needs to be deleted!
In my BLL I tried to capture the rowsAffected for the deletion by using-without success.
Dim rowsAffected As Integer = Adapter.ID_Deletion(ID)
If rowsAffected = 1 Then
Exit Function
Else
Return rowsAffected = 1
End If

Hi thanks for looking at my question
Using sqlServer management studio 2005
My Tables are something like this:
--Table 1 "Employee"
CREATE TABLE [MyCompany].[Employee](
[EmployeeGID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[BranchFID] [int] NOT NULL,
[FirstName] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[MiddleName] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[LastName] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT [PK_Employee] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
[EmployeeGID]
)
GO
ALTER TABLE [MyCompany].[Employee]
WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_Employee_BranchFID]
FOREIGN KEY([BranchFID])
REFERENCES [myCompany].[Branch] ([BranchGID])
GO
ALTER TABLE [MyCompany].[Employee] CHECK CONSTRAINT [FK_Employee_BranchFID]
-- Table 2 "Branch"
CREATE TABLE [Mycompany].[Branch](
[BranchGID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[BranchName] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[City] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[ManagerFID] [int] NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT [PK_Branch] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
[BranchGID]
)
GO
ALTER TABLE [MyCompany].[Branch]
WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_Branch_ManagerFID]
FOREIGN KEY([ManagerFID])
REFERENCES [MyCompany].[Employee] ([EmployeeGID])
GO
ALTER TABLE [MyCompany].[Branch]
CHECK CONSTRAINT [FK_Branch_ManagerFID]
--Foreign IDs = FID
--generated IDs = GID
Then I try a simple single row DELETE
DELETE FROM MyCompany.Employee
WHERE EmployeeGID= 39
Well this might look like a very basic error:
I get this Error after trying to delete something from Table €œEmployee€?
The DELETE statement conflicted with the
REFERENCE constraint "FK_Branch_ManagerFID".
The conflict occurred in database "MyDatabase",
table "myCompany.Branch", column 'ManagerFID'.
Yes what I€™ve been doing is to deactivate the foreign key constraint, in both tables when performing these kinds of operations, same thing if I try to delete a €œBranch€? entry, basically each entry in €œbranch€? and €œEmployee€? is child of each other which makes things more complicated.
My question is, is there a simple way to overcome this obstacle without having to deactivate the foreign key constraints every time or a good way to prevent this from happening in the first place? Is this when I have to use €œON DELETE CASCADE€? or something?
Thanks
I've been looking for examples online to write a SPROC to get some data. Here are the tables.
Album_Category
AlbumCategoryID (PK, int, not null)
Caption (nvarchar(max), not null)
IsPublic (bit, not null)
Albums
AlbumID (PK, int, not null)
AlbumCategoryID (int, null)

I need to return:

I hope I was fairly clear in what I'm trying to do. Any tips or help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I've got an INSERT that's selecting data from a linked server and attempting to push 10 million rows into the blank table. More or less, it looks like this:

The instance of the SQL Server Database Engine cannot obtain a LOCK resource at this time. Rerun your statement when there are fewer active users. Ask the database administrator to check the lock and memory configuration for this instance, or to check for long-running transactions. There are no other active users. I ran it again and monitored the following DMO to watch the growth of locks for that spid:
SELECT request_session_id, COUNT (*) num_locks
-- select *
FROM sys.dm_tran_locks
--where request_session_id = 77
GROUP BY request_session_id
ORDER BY count (*) DESC
The number of locks started small and held for a while around 4-7 locks, but at about 5 minutes in the number of locks held by that spid grew dramatically to more than 8 million before finally erroring again with the same message. Researching, I can't figure out why it's not escalating from row locks to table locks at the appropriate threshold. The threshold in was set to 0 at first (Server Properties > Advanced > Parallelism > Locks). I set it to 5000, and it still didn't seem to work. Rewriting the INSERT to include a WITH (TABLOCK) allows it to finish successfully in testing. My problem is that it's coming out of an ETL with source code that I can't edit. I need to figure out how to force it to escalate to locking the entire table via table or server level settings.
A colleague suggested that installing service packs may take care of it (the client is running SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM)), but I haven't found anything online to support that theory.
Hi seniors
there are two tables involve in replication let say table1 and replicated table is also rep.table1.
we are not deleting records physically in table1 so only a bit in table1 has true when u want to delete a record but the strange thing is that replication agaent report that this is hard delete operation on table1 so download and report hard delete operation and delete the record in replicated table which is very crucial.
plz let me know where am i wrong and how i put it into right way.
there is no triggers on published tables and noother trigger is created on published table.

I have a dts package that export data from a database to a text file. I could like to create a validation script to coun the data in the database that should be exported to file and then re-count again after the data is in the text file. Also count the number of columns that is exported.
Is there a way to do that within a dts package?

Hello all
How to stop a report from being displayed if the record count is 0 in Reporting services.

I would like to count rows by grouping of companys. So for one company when the report display the company employee they are associated a number. Example:
Company: Xrite
User: Tom Smith
User # 1
User: Jane Doe
User # 2
Company: Xwrong
User: George Green
User # 1
User: Mary Jane
User #2
I found the function RowNumber(). This function used as follows RowNumber(Nothing) Returns a row number for each record of the table instead of by company name (which is the group by).
Is there a way to use this function RowNumber() or any way in SRS to get the results I'm looking for?
Thanks,

Hello.
I am trying to limit the number of records to start in a position and show me "n" records. Here is an example query:
SELECT TOP 60 * FROM Entries WHERE Id NOT IN ( SELECT TOP 45 Id FROM Entries ORDER BY Id DESC ) AND Static = False AND Authorized = False ORDER BY Id DESC
It's not working correctlly. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
I have been assigned to fix a script which i did not write and that is not in SQL, but calls to SQL to get it's results.
It reads from a payroll table in SQL with 943 total records (of which about 280 are active employees).
When i run the script, i receive a series of errors listing the field that the error is in (ie: Badge or PayRule) and the record # causing the error.
My problem is that the 1st record # that returns an error is #946. I get a total of 45 records that generate errors of this sort. (ie: #946-957 Badge, 1154-1159 Badge, 1482-1497 PayRule, 1562-1568 Badge, 2083-2086 PayRule).
IF i can figure out which employee those records belong to I will have a much better chance of finding the cause of the errors and correcting them.
When it gives a record #, i always thought it was the row in the table that was referred to, but since the record #'s i am receiving are larger than the number of rows in the table, i am utterly confused!
So...i guess my question is, how do I count the records if not by row?
thanks in advance, and i hope this makes sense!
