Transact SQL :: Prevent Stored Procedure From Getting Deleted

How could I prevent a stored procedure from getting deleted?

Code Thinks Deleted Stored Procedure Still Exists?

Feb 13, 2013

I'm writing some code to create stored procedures in a database. In order to test it out, I deleted a stored procedure (right clicking in SQL Server 2008 and clicking on delete) and then ran my code to see if it would create it.

My code looks like this:

Code:
SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand();
SqlConnection conn = database.TypeLibraryDatabaseConnection;
command.Connection = conn;
// create the command to create the stored procedure
command.CommandText = database.GetProcedure(node.Name);
// create the stored proc in the database
try
{
command.ExecuteNonQuery();
}
catch
{
}
command.Dispose();

database.GetProcedure(node.name) basically gets a string containing the SQL script to create the stored procedure.

command.ExecuteNonQuery() throws an SqlException that says: "There is already an object named 'SecuritySession_DeleteSessionById' in the

database." But I deleted it! Why does it think it's still there?

DR Watson Caused By NT Not Finding A Backup Device?

Feb 23, 1999

Hello:

We have, on a devlopment server, running a long_running transaction for
almost two days. It was still running. This morning I decided to look at
three of two backup devices under EM to see if any backups were made to
these devices during the last couple of days on a de,mand basis by anyone.
The first one had a backup and the second and third device did not.
Somehow, and for some unexplained reason, the following message was put
into the MSSQL error log (and pretty much the same message went into the NT
event viewer).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
99/02/23 10:05:45.81 kernel dbsvolopen: Backup device
'E:MSSQLBACKUPEaglePro2_run02.DAT' failed to open, operating system
error = 2(The system cannot find the file specified.)
99/02/23 10:05:48.48 kernel dbsvolopen: Backup device
'E:MSSQLBACKUPEaglePro2_run02.DAT' failed to open, operating system
error = 2(The system cannot find the file specified.)
99/02/23 10:05:49.17 kernel dbsvolopen: Backup device
'E:MSSQLBACKUPEaglePro2_run03.DAT' failed to open, operating system
error = 2(The system cannot find the file specified.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

This error, I beleive, caused DR watson to kick off and we could only sopt
it and revive the long running transaction by rebooting the machine, of
course thus requiring us to restart the lon_running transaction.

It look like NT couldn't find the backup device and therefore activated the
drwatson executible or so it seems to me.

Has anyone experienced this error before? IS it caused by NT? Or that
perhaps a certain threshhold was reacched on NT and drwatson kicked in?Any
other ideas?

Any information that can be provided would be GREATLY appreciated. THanks.

Execution Of CLR Stored Procedure Failed

Hi,

I created the an assembly and stored procedure using the following steps:

alter database TEST set trustworthy on

CREATE ASSEMBLY ClrWebServices
FROM 'D:Dataclr_4.dll'
WITH PERMISSION_SET = UNSAFE;

CREATE ASSEMBLY [ClrWebServices.XmlSerializers]

GO

CREATE PROCEDURE InsertLocation(@city nvarchar(200),
@state nvarchar(200), @country nvarchar(200))
AS
EXTERNAL NAME ClrWebServices.StoredProcedures.clr_4

After this when i am trying to execute the procedure InsertLocation

EXEC InsertLocation 'Sarasota','Florida','USA'

I am getting the following exception..

Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Procedure InsertLocation, Line 0

I searched in the google and found one answer in http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=76222&SiteID=1 suggesting use

ALTER ASSEMBLY ClrWebServices WITH PERMISSION_SET=EXTERNAL_ACCESS

when i executed i got the exception

Can any body help on this?

Stored Procedure - Passing Date Parameters Failed

Aug 4, 2015

I am working on an Excel VBA report which is linked to an SQL Server database. The front end is Excel VBA routine, the backend is SQL Server stored procedure.

The VBA routine passes 2 dates to the stored procedure but it seems that it doesn't accept them.

The 2 date parameters in the stored procedure are @OrderDateRangeStart and @OrderDateRangeEnd.

Here is a portion of the stored procedure:

alter proc uspSalesCommission
...
...
@IncludeOrderDateAsCriterion int,
@OrderDateRangeStart date,
@OrderDateRangeEnd date
as
BEGIN
...
...
WHERE (@IncludeSalesPersonsAsCriterion=0 or Staff.name in (@Salespersons)) and
(@IncludeOrderDateAsCriterion=0 or SALESORD_HDR.ORDERDATE between @OrderDateRangeStart and @OrderDateRangeEnd)

In Excel VBA, the code passing the parameters are:

cmd1.parameters("@OrderDateRangeStart").value = cdate(me.startDate)
cmd1.parameters("@OrderDateRangeEnd").value = cdate(me.EndDate)

where cmd1 is a command object, me.startdate is start date field in Excel me.enddate is the end date field in Excel.

The Excel VBA routine works only when the day and month are both 1,(e.g. 1/1/2015), when they are other values (e.g. 31/5/2014) , it failed.

Backup/Restore Stored Procedure

Oct 5, 2006

Hi there

I just want to create Stored Procedure which will do following thing

i) Create a text file, which will have a Schema Script(including all the constraint & others, for a database(by passing Parameter)

ii) the same file must also have, all the data from the selected database tables,in again plain text format (could be CSV, or Tab SV, etc...)

I mean to say, the file should be act as the full backup of database, in plain text.

The same need to be done in the reverse order,this SP will do following things

i)Open the file created by first SP, create new database, with same name as backup in SP one

ii) create the tables, by reading the Schema script.

iii) Insert all the data in corrsponding tables.

For EX:

--creating backup

sp_CreateDatbaseBackup('DatabaseName')

--Restoring

sp_RestoreDatabaseBackup('FileName')

I know abou the Backup & restore in SQL Server 2005, but they gives me backup as .bkp file which is not editable. I too cant use the SSIS(just only SPs)

I want an editable full Backup and Restore.

Please help me in creating these SPs or any other idea, solution ?

OR

any other FREE third party tool which will make the Full database backup & restore in one go & in plain text file.

Regards,

Thanks.

SQL Server 2008 :: Backup Of Distribution Database Hangs On Stored Procedure

Nov 29, 2014

Have a server running 14 production databases, 12 of which are replicated (transactional replication) to a second server for reporting. Distributor on same machine as publishers. All set to 'SyncWithBackup' = true, distribution set to Full recovery mode, log backups every 30 minutes, full backup nightly. This generally runs just fine.

Occasionally, the process 'hangs' indefinitely (has gone 12 hours or more before being caught) and I need to stop the backup job, stop one or more of the log reader agents, and restart everything, and it proceeds just fine. Annoying, but not fatal, and not very often.

This time, no matter what, the backup job hangs when it runs. This is true whether it is the FULL backup or just a Transaction Log backup. It hangs on the stored procedure sp_msrepl_backup_start, at the point where it is attempting to update the table 'MSrepl_backup_lsns'. When it is hung like this, all of the log reader agent jobs are also hung, blocked by this stored proc. I've tried stopping ALL of the log reader agents prior to starting the backup, but the backup process still hangs up at the same spot and never ends.

I can run the select statement in that SP that gathers the data for the databases 'manually' in a query window and it finishes in about 10 seconds. It actually seems to be hung up on the 'UPDATE' statement. When it is hung, I cannot SELECT from MSrepl_backup_lsns unless I append WITH (NOLOCK) to the statement. Nothing else I can find indicates that there is anything else locking that table. DBCC OPENTRAN shows that there is a lock on that table held by that stored proc -- but I can't see any reason why it won't update the table (17 total records) and move on.

As I said, normally this runs just fine. Totally baffled by what may be causing this at this time.

Unable To Access VM Network Drive In SQL During Backup Generated By Stored Procedure

osql -E -n -d %1 -i %2kaman_full_sqldb_backup.sql -h-1 -o %3\%Computername%_kaman_full_sqldb_backup.log

In the stored procedure I try to use the x: drive and that does not work. I have tried obtaining the \192.168.x.x address and that only works on some of my servers. All are running SQL 2000, some are using Win2K and Win2003. It does not seem to matter. One of them that is using Win2003 only fails occationally.

I notice when I do a

exec master..xp_cmdshell 'x:'

The system cannot find the drive specified.

Yet, when I go to the server there is an x drive.

I am using the sqlserv user to run the job and that use is an administrator on the local machine. This is a virtual machine. We add the X before the osql and drop it after the command finishes.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, dbmsql

"I/O is frozen on database <database name>. No user action is required. However, if I/O is not resumed promptly, you could cancel the backup."

"I/O was resumed on database <database name>. No user action is required."

"Database backed up. After the 3 messages the following error message is shown for every database:

"BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP LOG <database name>. Check the backup application log for detailed messages."

I have added a Maintenance Plan but these jobs run after 02:00:00 at night.

Where can I find the command or setup which will backup all databases and log files at 22:00:00 in the evening?

MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, strErrorCaption, MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error)

End Try

Else

SetStatus("Operation cancelled")

End If

End Sub
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I executed the code successfully and I got a box which asked for "Enter the query string".
I typed in the following: EXEC dbo.SalesByCategory @Seafood. I got the following box: Query attempt failed. Must declare the scalar variable "@Seafood". I am learning how to enter the string for the "SQL query programed in the subQuery_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles btnQuery.Click" (see the code statements listed above). Please help and tell me what I missed and what I should put into the query string to get the information of the "Seafood" category out.

Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang

How Do I Track When A Stored Proc. Was Deleted ?

Oct 12, 2007

Does SQL Server logs track such a thing ?
Where do I look to see when the last time a stored procedure was modified or deleted....or the same goes for a table created ?

Thank you

Where Are Error Transactions Stored? Can They Be Edited Or Deleted?

Apr 2, 2007

Greetings,

We are using peer-to-peer transactional replication. When using the default agent profile, the replicator stops processing commands when it encounters an error. It appears to keep trying to apply the command that caused the error and essentially hangs on that command. We have changed our agent profiles to "Continue on data consistency errors" - not the kind of option to give you a warm fuzzy feeling but we just don't know what else to do.

Where are the commands that cause errors stored within the replication environment? Can they be individually viewed, edited, and/or deleted? We would like some alternative to "continue on data consistency errors."

Thanks,

BCB

Calling A Stored Procedure Inside Another Stored Procedure (or Nested Stored Procedures)

Nov 1, 2007

Hi all - I'm trying to optimized my stored procedures to be a bit easier to maintain, and am sure this is possible, not am very unclear on the syntax to doing this correctly.  For example, I have a simple stored procedure that takes a string as a parameter, and returns its resolved index that corresponds to a record in my database. ie
exec dbo.DeriveStatusID 'Created'
returns an int value as 1
(performed by "SELECT statusID FROM statusList WHERE statusName= 'Created')
but I also have a second stored procedure that needs to make reference to this procedure first, in order to resolve an id - ie:
exec dbo.AddProduct_Insert 'widget1'
which currently performs:SET @statusID = (SELECT statusID FROM statusList WHERE statusName='Created')INSERT INTO Products (productname, statusID) VALUES (''widget1', @statusID)
I want to simply the insert to perform (in one sproc):
SET @statusID = EXEC deriveStatusID ('Created')INSERT INTO Products (productname, statusID) VALUES (''widget1', @statusID)
This works fine if I call this stored procedure in code first, then pass it to the second stored procedure, but NOT if it is reference in the second stored procedure directly (I end up with an empty value for @statusID in this example).
My actual "Insert" stored procedures are far more complicated, but I am working towards lightening the business logic in my application ( it shouldn't have to pre-vet the data prior to executing a valid insert).
Hopefully this makes some sense - it doesn't seem right to me that this is impossible, and am fairly sure I'm just missing some simple syntax - can anyone assist?

Calling A Stored Procedure From ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 Express: Working With SELECT Statements In The Stored Procedure-4 Errors?

Mar 3, 2008

Hi all,

I have 2 sets of sql code in my SQL Server Management Stidio Express (SSMSE):

(1) /////--spTopSixAnalytes.sql--///

USE ssmsExpressDB

GO

CREATE Procedure [dbo].[spTopSixAnalytes]

AS

SET ROWCOUNT 6

SELECT Labtests.Result AS TopSixAnalytes, LabTests.Unit, LabTests.AnalyteName

FROM LabTests

ORDER BY LabTests.Result DESC

GO

(2) /////--spTopSixAnalytesEXEC.sql--//////////////

USE ssmsExpressDB

GO
EXEC spTopSixAnalytes
GO

I executed them and got the following results in SSMSE:
TopSixAnalytes Unit AnalyteName
1 222.10 ug/Kg Acetone
2 220.30 ug/Kg Acetone
3 211.90 ug/Kg Acetone
4 140.30 ug/L Acetone
5 120.70 ug/L Acetone
6 90.70 ug/L Acetone
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Now, I try to use this Stored Procedure in my ADO.NET-VB 2005 Express programming:
//////////////////--spTopSixAnalytes.vb--///////////

Public Class Form1

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

Dim sqlConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("Data Source = .SQLEXPRESS; Integrated Security = SSPI; Initial Catalog = ssmsExpressDB;")

Dim sqlDataAdapter As SqlDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdaptor("[spTopSixAnalytes]", sqlConnection)

sqlDataAdapter.SelectCommand.Command.Type = CommandType.StoredProcedure

'Pass the name of the DataSet through the overloaded contructor

'of the DataSet class.

Dim dataSet As DataSet ("ssmsExpressDB")

sqlConnection.Open()

sqlDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet)

sqlConnection.Close()

End Sub

End Class
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I executed the above code and I got the following 4 errors:
Error #1: Type 'SqlConnection' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #2: Type 'SqlDataAdapter' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #3: Array bounds cannot appear in type specifiers (in Form1.vb)
Error #4: 'DataSet' is not a type and cannot be used as an expression (in Form1)

Please help and advise.

Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang

More Information for you to know:
I have the "ssmsExpressDB" database in the Database Expolorer of VB 2005 Express. But I do not know how to get the SqlConnection and the SqlDataAdapter into the Form1. I do not know how to get the Fill Method implemented properly.
I try to learn "Working with SELECT Statement in a Stored Procedure" for printing the 6 rows that are selected - they are not parameterized.

SQL Server 2014 :: Embed Parameter In Name Of Stored Procedure Called From Within Another Stored Procedure?

Jan 29, 2015

I have some code that I need to run every quarter. I have many that are similar to this one so I wanted to input two parameters rather than searching and replacing the values. I have another stored procedure that's executed from this one that I will also parameter-ize. The problem I'm having is in embedding a parameter in the name of the called procedure (exec statement at the end of the code). I tried it as I'm showing and it errored. I tried googling but I couldn't find anything related to this. Maybe I just don't have the right keywords. what is the syntax?

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[runDMQ3_2014LDLComplete]
@QQ_YYYY char(7),
@YYYYQQ char(8)
AS
begin
SET NOCOUNT ON;
select [provider group],provider, NPI, [01-Total Patients with DM], [02-Total DM Patients with LDL],

[Code] ....
