Delivering A Large Nu Of Reports Together
Nov 2, 2007
Hi,
I have created bunch of reports using SSRS. Now I want to deliver all of these reports together. I can use data driven subscription in Report Manager. But that feature allows to deliver one report at a time. Can anyone tell me how to deliver all reports together?
Requirement is reports should be delivered to dirrent departments. These reports have been parameterized.
Thanks
P/S ;
I found this one on MSDN. But I'm not sure whether I can change this and use for multiple reports subscription. I dont hv a good knowledge on C# or VB.

I have a report that need to be delivered to two different persons.
It has 10 columns. But one of them is not supposed to be seen by one person. Can I do this without creating another report and delivering two different reports although they are almost the same?
Thanks

sql 2005 sp2
exchange 2003 sp2
i've got the report server setup to relay through the exchange server for delivering reports. all reports are exported to excel and emailed successfully with the exception of the largest report at about 16mb. the smtp logs on the exchange server show the report server starting a session but no "DATA" is every sent for this report and emails do not arrive. i am assuming due to the size of the report there is some timeout out issue between the smtp client and server. any ideas on how to resolve this issue? maybe a timeout setting on the exchange smtp server? i'm trying to avoid installing a local smtp server on the report server.
thanks in advance

I have a very simple report model with two tables in it but having millions of rows.
I have developed a report on this report model, which will return atleast half million rows.
I have published this report to report server and trying to access the report through the report manager. It never returns the result. Fails with tme out expired error. I have 64 bit machine and 2 GB RAM. The report is expected to return atleast 500 MB data. As per the SSRS documentation it the memory should be three times to process the report. It does not work.
If I develop the same report using the report designer, I get the results returnd within a minute.
If I use the above mentioned Report Model as my data source, again I get the results within less than minute.
So what is it the report builder report is doing additional? It is strange that the same report model when used as data source returns the same number of rows within less than minute and the report developed and uploaded to report manager using report builder fails with time out expired error?
What is that the Report builder doing internally? Can I change some configuration for report builder report to work for large reports? I have already changed the memory settings in the report config and machine config files.
Your early response is appreciated.

Hi all - please help!
I'm running SSRS 2005 (9.00.3027.00) in Sharepoint integrated mode on a Win2003 SP1 box. This works fine for most reports, including matrix reports sourcing data from SSAS 2005.
However, I have a couple of large matrix reports (7 columns per group, 12 column groups, 150 rows, 1 row per group, data from SSAS) that run fine when I run them in VS2005, but as soon as I try and run them from within Sharepoint/Report Server I get "An unexpected error has occurred.". Sometimes this happens after 60 seconds, sometimes more (up to 3 minutes)
If I filter them down to 7 column groups they work perfectly (altbeit slowly,1-2 mins), 8 groups works sometimes, 9 never works. I've checked that the report execution timeout is set to 10 minutes.
The SSRS log shows the errors as WrapperReportRenderingException and JobCanceledException. I'm not sure whether the the rendering error causes the cancelled error or vice versa. does anyone know what I can do about this?
By the way, from looking at the CPU usage of the server, it seems as though SSRS does carry on rendering the report long after Sharepoint has given up and returned with the helpful error.
Many thanks in advance
Alex

Env: SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services - 8.00.1042.00 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 - Microsoft Windows NT 5.2.3790.0
I configured a report subscription to send an email out, but I did not realize that the mail send was tied to my account. When someone removed my windows login from the local admin group, the report delivery errored with:
"Failure sending mail: The permissions granted to user '<Domain><user>' are insufficient for performing this operation."
My login has been reinstated, but how do I configure the send mail to use a different account? Note that he report server is running under the "NT AuthorityNetworkService" account (unfortunately). I'm hoping I don't have to deal with the unattended execution account because the docs on that are awkward.
TIA,
-Peter

I am trying to figure out some scalability-related requirements for the project I'm working on, and unfortunately I cannot find out an answer to one of the questions by test-running, so I have to ask it in hope that someone has a definitive answer.
When two - or, more - different (distinct) users/subscribers
running the Report Manager from two different machines
[independently of each other] create their two subscriptions
with almost exactly the same parameters (same report name, same report rendering format, to be delivered via email at 6:00 AM every day, etc.),
and the only difference between those subscriptions is in email addresses (to whom the report shall be delivered)...
... when those subscriptions get executed at 6:00 AM,
are they executed only once (because those 2 subscriptions are the same except by whom they were created and to whom they should be delivered),
OR
is each of them executed separately?
In other words, if multiple users create absolutely the same subscriptions (except for a parameter to whom they should be delivered), how many times does the Report Server run that report?
Thank you very much.

First off I understand that it is a horrible idea to run extremely large/long running reports, but sometimes it ends up being the best possible solution due to external forces.
I've got a 25,000 page report that we recently converted from crystal reports to SSRS. The SSRS server is a 64bit 2003 server with 32 gigs of ram running SSRS 2005. When running the report through the report manager web application, it renders in the browser/viewer after about 12 minutes. Exporting to pdf through the browser/viewer in the report manager takes an additional 55 minutes. It does work and it produces a whopping 1.03gb pdf.
Unfortunately, I've run into a problem when trying to do this from a console application using the SSRS client API. After about 30-35 minutes I get an exception on the client with the following error:
Exception Message: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.
InnerException = Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
Here is the api call:
Code Snippet
byte[] m_data = reportingService.Render(this.ReportPath, this.ExportFormat, null,
deviceInfo, selectedParameters, null, null, out encoding, out m_mimeType,
out usedParameters, out warnings, out streamIds);
Here are some things I've tried so far:
set the HttpRuntime ExecutionTimeout value to 3 hours on the report server
disabled http keep alives on the report server
increased the script timeout on the report server
set the report to never time out on the server
set the report timeout to several hours on the client call
Disabled antivirus on the client side, and verified there was no antivirus running on the reporting server.
Tried using default credentials in the ReportingService object as opposed to supplying credentailsAny ideas would be appreciated. I understand the best solution is to split the report up into smaller reports, which is the backup option, but being able to keep it as one report is the goal.

Hello SQL Server Experts, Data Analysts, and Report Writers et al:
re: Reporting Options with SQL Server
I wanted to propose an offshoot to the pryor thread:
Would anyone take a stab at comparing Access Reports, Crystal Reports,
Cognos or other options to all the Reporting Services and its components offered as part ofSQL Server, especially as to extracting data from SQL Server into a report format?
I guess this is a far as capabilites, ease of use, limitations, and especially formatting
or presentation of the end report product?
Thank you to all, and I hope this is a beneficial discussion to others.

I have an already published application running several MS SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services report.
I need a way to find from either the reporting services log or the application server (IIS) logs or windows log
to know the frequency of each report being used.
Based on this info, the business needs to know which reports are being used and to what extend?
How can I acheive this?
I have already got the IIS logs and it did not give the required info.
I have looked into the Reporting Services logs but it does not provide the info either.
Any help is appreciated

My issue is with converting multi-value parameters:
In Crystal Reports, you can set a parameter to accept multiple vales (Discrete, Range or Discrete and Range).
As an example:
I have a database table with a column called ID.
I can create a parameter called param_id and set the options of the parameter to "Allow multiple range values".
With this setup, I can limit the result set of the report by comparing the param_id parameter to the ID column in the database. Because param_id is a multi-value range parameter, I can pass it the following data:
1 - 50
60 - 80
150 - 127
This will only return results within those ranges.
Does anyone know if SSRS provides this kind of functionality?
Thanks,
Patrick Conway

Is there a way to copy reports from other users "My reports" folder? I am logging onto the management studio reporting services using an administrative account and I am able to view the reports from all users' "My Reports" folder. But I am not able to export them as an rdl file. I am able to export reports from other common folders, but not from the "My Reports" folder.
The reason I need to do this is some of the users have created some reports in one environment and the reports are available in their respective "My Reports" folder. I need to move these reports to their corresponding "My Reports" folder in another environment.
Is there a way to do this?
Thanks for your help.

Hi all,
I have two problems.
1. I downloaded ChartFXRSTrial and created one chart, and able to deploy it in ReportServer, but the problem is the reports are not showing there, i checked the configuration of .dll files in the help provided by chartFX, but couldn't get anything, so could help me on this.
2. How to give Tooltip for the X- axis or Y- axis values in the ReportServer , i tried using chartproperties of .rdl file, but didnt understand it. can help me on this, and one more i tried with Dundas too, If im giving tooltip as #valy then, it is showing samething in reportserver instead the values of 'Y-axis'.

We currently have a data warehouse running on SQL 7.0, SP2. One of our primary fact tables is now well over 155 million rows in it. The table is not very wide, as it only contains 17 columns, most of which are defined as integers. The entire database is only 20 GB.
The issue is that the loads from the staging table to this fact table have significantly deteriorated over the last month or so, dropping from over 400 transactions per second to around 85. We drop all the indexes on the fact table before we load the data into it.
Are there issues with a manageable table size in SQL 7.0 that we need to be concerned about? And should we consider partitioning the table into several smaller tables and join them with a "union all" view?
I really need to get this performance issue resolved, as our IT support vendor is pushing us to port the data warehouse to UDB because they tell us that SQL server is not scalable enough to handle this volume of data.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi, anyone who administering the pretty big database not less than 30 Gb with the average number of rows in a table about 2M and more, please share you experience with maintenace of such a db. Esspecially i'm interesting in:
1) Indexes maintenance (When and how - just regular dbcc, maint. plan or some script to split the job twice and so on.)
2) Remove unused space from db. (not major)
The serever works 24*7, and it's transactional environment. SQL 7 sp3 on claster.
I run the sp. to rebuild all the indexes it takes about 2-3 hrs to determin the objects withfragmentation less than 80% and actually rebuilding, during this process the users experience the performance (specially for update/insert) problem. It looks like I need to change the plan or strategy to do this. Any thoughts appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

OS - Window 2003 Standard
SQL - 2000 Standard SP4
2 CPU 4 GB Memory
We have a table this is approximate 155 GB with 450 million rows. 90 days worth of data and normalized pretty tight. Obviously this beast is too much to handle (reporting, maintenance) so we are partitioning the data off into weekly tables. I will never need to store more than 90 days worth of data so at the end of each week, we will truncate the oldest week's table and change the constraint on it to handle the next week. Anyway, We have done this and it is working well in 2 testing environment with a lot less data.
I need to migrate the data from the 1 table 450 million rows to the 13 weekly tables that will approximately make up the 90 days worth of data. I hoped to BCP out the data and Bulk Insert (fast mode). Even 1 weeks (Approximate 35 million rows) goes forever and and don't even see it start to output. I have changed the batch to be larger. Is there a better/faster way to do this or am I just going to have to wait. I'm open to any suggestions.
Note: Hardware is all Raid 1+0, reading from 1 array and writing to a different array. Performance just seems to slow but I'm not sure what to expect from something this big.
Ideas.

In a particular table in the large database there are 9700 rows taking 380MB, the same table in a normal db has 162000 rows and takes 6.MB. The tables are identical and the indexes are the same.

I have this large DB around 250GB. In which 70% of the space is occupied by one single table. This is not a high transaction DB, it has only a few users.
Backup is taking 2:30 hours!
Is there a way I can reduce this time?
In desperation, I am thinking of doing,
1. detach the DB (off peak hours)
2. copy .mdf and .ldf files (backup)
3. attach the DB
Any suggestion ?

I often in my job come across the following scenario:
Client rings up and says Run out of server space due to SQL 2000 Transaction log has consumed all the space or has consumed a very large portion of it.
what is the correct procedure in resolving this ASAP working with Full mode SQl 2000 Databases. as i have other
guys within my company that all do different things with good result and sometimes bad results.
The procedure i use is the following:
METHOD 1
1.backup both database and transaction log
2.Right click the database and select Detach, which from my understanding is a clean detach method which ensures that uncommited transactions are commited to the database.
3. Rename the old transaction log to .ldfOLD
4. REATTACH Database which creates a new transaction log.
METHOD 2
1. I dont use this method but im pretty sure its risky and if possible
can someone provide me with the reasons why:
1.Change database method from full to simple mode, shrink logs
and then change back to full mode.
basically what i am asking is what is the fastest way to sort out the above issue most effectively and with the abilty to Roleback succesfully.
PLEASE dont comment on why is the transaction log so big as i dont want to look into that now all i am sking is what is the most effective method to shrink the log down and save space.
