Deploying Rdl Files In Prodcution Server
Nov 20, 2007
Hi All,
I generated and transfered reports using RSscripter. I created those reports in my local machine. Then I transfered to prodcution machine. But the problem is there is no Visual Studio in prodcution machine. So I'm wondering how to deploy those reports now. Can any one tell me how to do this please?
Thanks

I have developed ETL for our datawarehouse in SSIS 2005. It has to be moved to production which our team do not have access to and is contolled by another department. While deploying in production OLEDB Connection manager needs to be edited and tied to production servers. Production server team says they won't edit and neither allow me to touch production servers. They want me to create a script which will change the connections.
I have no idea what to do. Please help.

I'm working on a web application that uses SQL Server 2000. Once I'm ready to upload my website to a production server, I need to know how to upload my SQL Server database files to the server. Are there actual files that can be uploaded? I've only deployed a website that works with MySQL to a production server, and there were no files to upload... the database had to be created on the server, and then the data itself had to be exported to text files (on my computer), then imported/uploaded to the production server using SQL statements...
How do I do this?
Thanks~

I am deploying SSIS packages using the deployment utility. We are starting to use configuration files for storing connection information. I have the configuration files in a directory on the server I am deploying the packages to, I want all new packages deployed to use these files. When I deploy a new package it wants to overwrite the config files on the server with the ones in the package. I have tried to remove the .dtsconfig file from the package deployment folder but then the package will not use the config files on the server. How do you deploy a package and get it to use the .dtsconfig files that are already on the server?

Hi
I am working on on SQL Server Integration Services and facing few problems in it.
Actually am supposed to create a package that would automatically pick excel spreadsheets with a specific format and import it onto the SQL server.
(Lets say , there is a company named AB and they have got various products named CD,EF and GH and each product has its own spreadsheet in which its monthly sales(JAN, FEB,...NOV, DEC) is given. So i have to build a generic package for each product (lets say CD) so that i don't have to import every spreadsheet seperately for each month.
To summarize i just have to build a package where i can deploy the various spreadshhets again and agian instead of building a package for each and every month spreadsheet seperately.
I have tried and used lots of combinations like Loop
conatiners etc. but still am not able to find a solution to it.
Please help me out on this.

I am hoping someone with more experiencing deploying packages from dev to other environments can help me out here. When developing in BIDS everything works fine. When I deploy I want to use a configuration file. This does seem to work fine by specifying the configuration file on the DTEXEC command. However, if it is specified incorrectly the package STILL executes using the information it was created with. I am attempting to control things like connection strings and passwords via configuration files so that I can take the same package and deploy to different locations and have it run against different sources and destinations. What I am afraid of is that things could easily get screwed up if the configuration file gets moved or renamed, or if the dba that is scheduling the job (outside of sql agent using a different job scheduler on a machine that only has the SSIS service) messes up typing the config file name. Shouldn't it fail if you specify an invalid parameter. Isn't there a way to make it do that? Any help or insight is appreciated. BTW I have used environment variables as well and the issue is the same. If it cannot locate it, it still will execute.

I've written a ClickOnce app that deploys a Sql Server Express data file (.mdf) and log file (.ldf) along with the other application files. SQL Express SP2 is a prerequisite for this app. After the applicaiton installs and starts up it copies these files to a specific folder and attaches them by calling the AttachDatabase() method of a Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server object.
This method works fine using Windows XP, however when I run it on Windows Vista I get the following exception:
Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.FailedOperationException: Attach database failed for Server 'localhostSQLEXPRESS'. ---> Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ExecutionFailureException: An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Unable to open the physical file "C:WashMasterDatabasewasshmaster.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".
This exception occurs when I try to programmatically attach the database.
I've searched through the MSDN forums for a solution and I've only found two suggestions:
1.) Create all database connections using a User Instance.
2.) Create the database (using SQL) in the target folder, rather than copying it over from the deployment folder.
I don't like the idea of using User Instances because my entire data access layer is currently written using Ole and I would rather not rewrite it if I don't have to. I cannot find any way to use User Instances with Ole.
I also don't like the idea of creating the database using SQL because it is fairly large.
Here are my questions:
1.) Can User Instances be used with Ole?
2.) Can I somehow programmatically set the permissions of the copied data and log files so that SQL Express can access them without error?
3.) Is there a better method for doing what I'm trying to do or am I destined to have to either rewrite in data access layer so I can use User Instances or create my large database rather than copy it to the target directory?
Thanks.

Hi gurus,
I've created a linked server (and set up the corresponding schema.ini file) in order to perform bulk-inserts from some CSV text files into SQL tables (from my standpoint the text files are just for reading purposes). The linked server works fine (I can select the data in the files without a problem).
Now the question: is possible to automatically detect when one or more of those files change in order to start the import process automatically? Something like having a trigger created on the CSV files Or there's no easy way to do that so I have, to say something, to create a Job that periodically checks if the files have changed programatically (say, recording each file's timestamp everytime is imported and comparing the recorded value with the current one, or whatever)?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi Well this is my first post on this forum, in fact I have not even used SQL Server yet!
My question is.... I have been asked to produce an application which will be a VB6 application with an SQL Server database behind it. I would like to be able to put the application along with the database on to a CD and run them directly from the CD once it is distributed. So the question I guess is can this be done with SQL Server i.e. can a table be exported in a format which will allow it to be queried in a standalone fashion? Maybe I have not explained myself properly but I welcome any questions which will help clarify my problem.
Thanks Red

They work in Sql Ex. what must I change? The connection string, to what format? and what else? I attached the dB to Sql 2005 and browsed the content in the Sql manager. But can’t get the aspx pages to work on the server.

Guys,
Let me first give you a little bit of background...
One of my goals for this year is to migrate all DTS packages to SSIS, those DTS packages are used across the company by different groups/users.
Since I'm still not that familiar with SSIS and like many here, was well used to the enterprise manager view (all DTS packages on 1 single place), I'm unsure on how to structure my SSIS packages in a way that I could break it down by group let's say.
The way that I'm doing right now is: I'm creating a solution for each group and creating the SSIS packages (.dtsx) relative to that group inside each solution, that's pretty easy. Now, the next thing that I'll have to figure out (and hope you guys can help) is how to deploy them structured this way and how to handle these packages to my end users. Basically, how do I handle "Group A" all of their SSIS packages? Will they have to open the package in debug mode on VS every time they need to execute a package?
Thoughts on this?

I proposed on a new server that we separate Data Files, Log Files, tempDB, Backups, etc. onto separate LUNS on a SAN with High Speed Solid State Drives.I was told that with the new technology with solid state SAN's that it would decrease performance and that it did not work the same way as it did when you had RAID 5's etc.I thought that if things were cared out correctly by a SAN Administrator they would know how to configure for optimal performance.

I have the need to delete old backup files via TSQL job. Found this solution online:
PushD "
emoteservershareDIFF" &&(
forfiles -m *DIFF*.sqb -d -1 -c "cmd /c del /q @path"
) & PopD
It works remotely if I run it via command prompt. But when I add this to a TSQL job on my remote SQL instance, it runs without deleting anything. What I'm missing?

"the problem is we cannot install visual studio on the server to open the project and use the deploy option from it" i tried using the script - PublishSampleReports.rss
but everytime i run i need to go and manully configure the report to map the shared datasource to it. any way to pass the information in the script itself, or is there any smart way to deploy on production.

Hello, I am trying to deploy a SSIS package (using deployment utility create at build time) to a different server and ran into problem wonder if someone and direct me to the right path.
development environment: WIN XP, SQL 2005. package is built using server buisiness intelligence. Package content: connect to a "target"SQL2005server using OLE DB using SQL Login authentication to process data. The SQL 2005 DB is on a Win 2003 server (R2) as OS platform.
The package was built, install ( SQL not file system)and ran fine on the development environement; when attempt to deploy the package to the SQL 2005 server where data reside and should be processed (also install to SQL), I receive error " 0x80004005 ...description TCP Provider: No connection could be made because the target machine activily refuse it". which is an odd error since the package is on the server that it try to connect to the data base on it.
If anyone can give me some hint at what cause this problem, appreciate the help.

Hi,
I am experiencing a problem with deployment of a VB .Net application which carries out merge replication, and would greatly appreciate any assistance. I am currently struggling to find stuff about my problem on the net, which probably means either (a) I'm missing something really simple or (b) I shouldn't be trying to do this in the first place. :)
The story so far:
1. I added the SQLMergXLib.dll COM to my Visual Studio project, allowing me access to SQL Server merge replication functionality from my code, and wrote a procedure for synchronising a given pull subscription. This worked beautifully and with minimal fuss.
2. I tried to deploy the project to a different machine. I received an error to the effect of, "Couldn't create object, it's a COM object and it's not registered correctly." I have encountered this problem a few times before when trying to use Interop, so I called myself a few names, went back to the deployment project, and specified that the object should be registered. Still no joy. I tried this a couple of different ways round but then...
3. ...found an article on MSDN suggesting that I should consider using the managed Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication, Microsoft.SqlServer.Management, Microsoft.SqlServer.RMO interfaces instead. I reasoned that this would eliminate the registry issue altogether as everything would become native to the .Net framework, and this seemed infinitely preferable anyway, so I promptly substituted the SQLMergX DLL for these, rehashing my code to match. Again, this built and ran OK on my development machine.
4. I tried to deploy the project to a different machine. I received the following error: "Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication, Version=9.0.242.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect."
Now it's worth pointing out that I think I know what the problem might be here: No SQL Server of any kind is installed on the target machine. However, SQL Server is not required to deploy standard database solutions in .Net, and I am hoping this is also true with the Microsoft.SqlServer... namespaces, as it is a requirement that the subscription database can be located anywhere (not necessarily the target machine), and therefore that SQL Server need not be present on the target machine. However, if this is simply impossible, please let me know so that I can look at other alternatives.
Other than that, I don't mind what method I use to get the synchronisation working as long as it works (I've been at this a good few days now...), so if anyone has done this before and can offer any assistance (any registering/files I need to include etc, I am hoping it is something that simple), it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve.

Hi Everybody,
I have made one simple application in asp.net 2.0 using VS 2005. I got following error
Server Error in '/[applicationname]' Application. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
- When i got on my local machine i solved it by deleting sqlexpress directory from user's account and it was due to that I have installed VS 2005 on machine and by default it installs sql express with it.
- But I could not solved this error on my Development Server wherein there is no VS 2005. Only .Net framework 2.0 & 1.1 are there. My all other applications are running well.
So if any one have idea regarding the solution for this error then please reply me soon. It is very urgent.
Thanks to all of you.

Hi there. I've created a windows forms app that connects to a sql server express database. now that it's working on my box, i need to install the entire solution on the end user's machine.
what's the best way to move the database? I found this article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165716.aspx
but i'm wondering if anyone can give me some insights based on your own experience.
I'm using ms visual studio 2005 and sql server express 2005.
I'm hoping that all i'll really have to do is copy everything over to the new machine and then edit my connection string in the .exe.config file for my app.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I am a little bit confused about making an installer/deployer.
I have an application using SQL Server 2005 CE (I have just updated to the most recent version Jan 2007). It will run on a new desktop PC (windows XP) if I install the SQL CE runtime and then copy the .EXE and the .SDF database file. This is great but my client wants the whole thing to install as one operation. I thought click once could do this but it seems that is only for Pocket PC targets? Can anyone point me to a method to make an appropriate installer please?
Pete
I am using the following:
SQLServerCE31-EN.msi - installer for SQL CE server runtime
SSCE31VSTools-ENU.exe - installed over VS 2005 SP1.
