A report runs well in Visual Studio environment. Once it is deployed to the local report server, got an #Error indication without an actual message. The report has an embedded code with a database connection in it. Any idea what the problem is?

Deployment Utility Error

Dec 19, 2005

I am getting the following error when trying to run a deployment
utility. The server only has .net framework 2.0 and sql server 2005

If it's any help, this server was recently upgraded from the june ctp to rtm.

This is a production server, so a solution involving as little disturbance to it's current state would be preferrable.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Report Deployment Connection Error

Aug 31, 2007

Hi,

I'm using the reports designer in Visual Studio 2005 Professional and have successfully been deploying reports to my client's server for several months. Now I can't deploy any reports, when I try Visual Studio almost hangs, tries for about 5 minutes to deploy a single report and then fails with an error message:

TITLE: Microsoft Report Designer
------------------------------
A connection could not be made to the report server http://winserver/ReportServer.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The operation has timed out (System.Web.Services)
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------

It used to ask me for username/password for the server (credentials), now it doesn't do that. I can go to the reports server and reports interface pages in my browser OK. The reports build without any errors.

Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on how to get it working again?

Greg

Analysis Service Deployment Error

Mar 15, 2007

Hi,

I created a SQL Server 2005 Analysis Service project. When I tried to deploy a standard Decision Tree model, it gave me errors (see below). Clearly, I can't use ntext data type with DISTINCT, but how can I change the SQL command since it was automatically created? What was the final impact of removing the DISTINCT word from the SQL command?

SQL queries 1
SELECT DISTINCT [dbo_Training_x0020_Data].[Hellos] AS [dbo_Training_x0020_DataHellos0_0]

FROM [dbo].[Training Data] AS [dbo_Training_x0020_Data]

Report Viewer Error After Deployment

Mar 27, 2007

I have created a report on my local machine and deployed it on a server. As I am the administrator of the server, I can access the reports with servernameReports. The report has got three data sets. Out of these three one is a Stored procedure and other two data sets have sql queries. The user selects the 'Business year' and 'sales type' from list box. This report works perfect from my local machine as well as from teh server when I am running it

I have some other users who wish to access these reports. I did the following steps:

Created a new role and assigned it at the Data Source Folder and Reports Folder
I also made the user a Database user on the server.

After doing these steps, the user can access the Reports site by servernameReports.

The user then can go into the Reports folder. But when the user tries to run the report, he gets an error with:

An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)

Query execution failed for data set 'BusinessYear'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)

For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors

Can anyone help me with this? Is htere something to do with setting up of the datasource?

I have tried to search, but could not find relevant info.

Any help/Pointers will be really appreciated.

Deployment And File System Error - Access Denied

May 16, 2008

We are setting up a new box and when we deploy the cube we are getting the error "File system error: The following error occured during a file operation: Access is denied. ."

We are part of an AD group that is a member of the administrators group on the box, and it looks like we have rights to the data directory where AS deploys cube data to. The account that AS service runs as is also an administrator on the box. It is a domain account. The cube does have one assembly - might that be the problem? We have set up a few boxes in the past without problems - we didn't have control over how this box was setup, so obviously we are missing a permission. If anyone has any insights / ideas, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Product Level Is Insufficient Error Message On Deployment Machine

Oct 10, 2006

Hi,

I have a SSIS package which I had created on my machine, running Windows XP with SQL2K5 Development Edition. If I run the package through the BI studio or by clicking the dtsx file, it runs without any issues.

When the same package is deployed onto another machine (SBS 2003 with SQL2K5 Workgroup Edition), the package errors with the above message when the dtsx file is clicked and run. However, if the source files are opened up and ran from within the BI studio, it all runs OK.

I've ran through the SQL setup file (through Add/Remove Programs) and Integration Services is installed, however the SSIS service is not on the machine. I've read however that the service is not required to run the package, so what gives? Plus, this doesn't explain why running it through BI studio is fine but not when run by itself.

The data flow task that the package fails on contains 2 SQL sources, 1 SQL destination, 3 sorts, 1 multicast and a couple of merge joins. Are some of these pieces not available in the Workgroup Edition? This would still not explain why it can run in the BI studio on that machine...

Any information provided would be great.

Regards

Alex

Error Connection Could Not Be Made To The Report Server When Attempting Deployment

Apr 5, 2006

I'm working through the SQL2005 Reporting Services Tutorial. When I try to deploy, I get the error "Connection could not be made to the report server." It appears that I do not have permissions to get to localhost/reportserver (I get a permissions error when just trying to get there directly from "run"). In another forum I saw several people having the same issue. One contributor said that the problem was solved for him by uninstalling SQL2005 and reinstalling using the local system account rather than a windows domain account. I tried that, but am getting the same error. Anyone know how to fix this?

Deployment - So Near And Yet So Far....

Apr 23, 2008

I tried to deploy a package to production and failed miserably. The error is pretty simple "Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification". Trouble is, I opened my source on the production machine, generated a new connection string from a new connection manager and guess what, the string comes out EXACTLY the same as the one my package is set to point to at runtime. so, where do I start?

some general stuff.
There are ADO and OLEDB connection in the package.
Each gets its connection string from a variable.
the variable is set in a script task which pulls the data out of an encryped sql server column.
when the connection string is displayed via a simple message box, it is exactly what I want i to be, e.g.
Data Source=a.b.c.d;User ID=A_USER;password=password;Initial Catalog=a_database;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Auto Translate=False;

I am guessing that it must be a setting or option on the SQL Servers themselfs, something in its configuration as otherwise the strings are identical so there must be something in the way that one SQl server is not set up to allow connections from another?

CLR Deployment

Feb 23, 2007

I'm attempting to deploy CLR Stored Procedures from Visual Studio 2005.

I have a VS Database project with stored procedures for all of the tables in our database. (I would really like to keep everything together in 1 DLL), everything seems fine except...

I keep receiving the following error when attempting to deploy to SQL Server:

Error 1 Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of
the operation or the server is not responding.

After some experimentation I have determined that its because the DLL is too
large: 1.8 mb. (I also have a larger one).

I have looked through various documentation sources but have found none
concerning this problem other than specifing something aboug a 100ms
execution timeout (not sure if this is the same).

Deployment works if I trim down the size of the DLL (i.e., remove procedures from the solution)

Is there anyway to deploy large DLLs to SQL Server without having to break
them up? If so, where is the setting to allow a longer timeout period for
deployment?

Mar 11, 2008

Scenario:

I have a dev machine with VS2005Pro, WinXPSP2. I create a web site with
authentication built with the ASP.Net Configuration Tool in VS2005.

The site, login and all other functionality are fine when tested on the dev
machine.

I use copy web site to 'deploy' the site to a W2003R2 server. The
authentication process doesn't recognize the password. All other web
functionality is fine. With SSMSE I can see that the request is actually
being processed by SS2005E.

Is this likely to be an encryption problem due to differing machine keys or
something similar? What is the recommended approach to moving ASPNETDB from
the dev machine to a server?
