Hi,
We are having performance issue (too slow) compiling cubes utilizing Cognos over SqlServer database. The driver used is Microsoft Sql Server (OLE DB). Is that the right driver to be used?
Any idea what could be the problem?
Thanks

Hi,
I'm getting an error when I make two calls to a stored procedure (which I didn't use to).
This is an example:
import java.sql.CallableStatement;
import java.sql.Connection;
import java.sql.DriverManager;
import java.sql.ResultSet;
import java.sql.SQLException;
public class Main {
public Main() {
Connection sproc_con;
try {
sproc_con = getConnection();
CallableStatement sproc_stmt = sproc_con.prepareCall("{call getID(?)}");
for (int i = 0; i < 2; i++) {
int id = getID("Test", sproc_stmt);
System.out.println(id);
}
sproc_stmt.close();
sproc_con.close();
} catch (ClassNotFoundException ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
} catch (SQLException ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
}
}
private int getID(String tableName, CallableStatement sproc_stmt) {
ResultSet rs = null;
int ID = 0;
try {
sproc_stmt.setString(1, tableName);
rs = sproc_stmt.executeQuery();
if (rs.next())
ID = rs.getInt(1);
} catch (SQLException sqle) {
sqle.printStackTrace();
System.exit(1);
} finally {
try {
if (rs != null)
rs.close();
} catch (SQLException sqle) {
sqle.printStackTrace();
}
return ID;
}
}
private Connection getConnection() throws ClassNotFoundException, SQLException {
Class.forName("com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver");
return DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:sqlserver://myserver:1433;DatabaseName=TestDB", "sa", "");
}
public static void main(String[] args) {
new Main();
}
}
The first call is ok, but the second throws an exception at sproc_stmt.executeQuery(); which says:

Hi,
Does anybody have a working Java code sample that connects to an SQLServer 2005 database on a remote host, via the default named pipe, from a client using the SQLServer 2005 JDBC driver? Could you post it, or a pointer to it?
I've gotten java.sql DriverManager.getConnection() to work fine with TCP/IP connections before. But I'm a newbie with named pipes, and unclear on how the connection string/properties are different. I've tried to piece it together from multiple docs and threads, but haven't found sample code that quite fits my situation. I think a simple working example would best clarify the syntax.
The server is not using SQL Express. Most SQLServer configuration options are defaults; the named pipes protocol is enabled.
Thanks

Hi all,
We are using SQL Server 2005, on Windows server 2003 R2.
We Have Two Database Servers say DBServer1 and DBServer2, Now I wants to do Replication between these to servers, such that
1. The Changes at DBServer1 should be reflected at DBServer2
2. The Changes at DBServer2 should be reflected at DBServer1
3. Changes includes Data changes and Schema Changes
4. After every Synchronization Both Databases should be Identical
I tried doing so, what i did was
I cofigured Distribution at DBServer1, also Publisher and Publication at DBServer1
and Made a Subscription at DBServer2.
What I successfully done is
If Publisher means DBServer1 do some changes then it gets updated at DBServer2.
But New Rows added at DBServer2 doesn't gets added at DBServer1

Hi,
We are trying to move our application from SQL2005 to SQL2005, we are using 2005 jdbc driver 1.1.
The problem we have is, when a date is retrieved from the database, only the year part got correctly, but the date is automatically set to January 1 of that year. The interesting thing is this problem doesn't occur on local development environment (developer's windows platform), it only happens when we deploy the application to production server (unix).
Does anyone know what is going on, how to fix it?
Thanks.

Hello,I'm looking for a tutorial or some sample code to save a file in sql server with c#. So far I have not been able to find a anything I could use as most tutorials are in VB. I'm using the varbinary max type to store the file. The part I need help with is selecting the file and converting it using the Stream object, not the SQL insert statements. Thanks,Arnold

I have developed a windows service. Before its installation some sql scripts are to be run.. ( some alter tables, create tables and some new stored procs).Now right I am planning to make a batch file (.cmd file) which will contain commands like these..------------------------------------------------------------- osql -E -n -S %1 -d %2 -i ".New DevelopmentCreateTable_FollowupAlertsArchive.sql" -w 132 >> .New Development.out ------------------------------------------------------------- for each sql script a command like this would be there. Now before installing the windows service this batch file would have to be run.I was thinking..is this the right way for deployment?.. is it possible that somehow the msi installer (deployment project) can itself run all the sql scripts andthen proceed to install the windows service. thanks.

I'm all mixed up on this one. Please comment on either of the following two remarks.
1. When I create a new SSIS package under BIDS I gather it is intended for development purposes. .I can test the package and run it but I need to"deploy" it (possibly to another server) to make it available for others to use.
2. Is "deploying" essentially copying my package (.ldtsx) to a new server or does it involve a lot more?
3. I read that I can create an SSIS package without actually needing to have sql 2005 installed on my box. Suppose I create a package that makes no reference to any databases. To *run* this package will I need sql2005 installed or can BIDS do this?
TIA,

I have the newest 'Everywhere' Compact Edition installed, and have created a new desktop database using VS 2005 after installing the VS 2005 SP1 Beta, all successfully. I have no need to use the Mobile components and no need to syncronize to a mobile device. I can connect to the database programatically in VB.NET no problem.
Instead, I want to connect to the desktop database using MS Access. So far, I can't connect using the standard (old) SQLServer ODBC driver, and haven't found any new driver, either. Am I just premature and need to be patient? Does anyone know if there's one in the works? Or am I the only one to have thought of it?
Any help would be appreciated.

Dear All,
I have this VB application calling MSSQL through the ODBC connection. It was running fine in Win 2K, but there is following error in Win XP Prof:
[microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] The statement has been terminated.
I notice the version of ODBC MSSQL driver in Win 2K is 2000.81.8053.00, while in Win XP is 2000.85.1117.00. Could it be the cause of the issue? How to resolve it? Can I replace the SQLSRV32.dll in the WINDOWSsystem32 folder directly?
Thanks for any hint!

Hi,On one side, I have a Sybase 12.5 32 bits Server running on AIX 5.1(maintenance level 3). On the other, I've got W2000 5.00.2195 (SP2)with SQL Server Standard Edition, Product Version 8.00.534 (SP2),having installed MDAC 2.6.I connect to the Sybase 12.5 database using Merant ASE ODBC driver forSybase 12.5, and using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Serverthat comes with this SQLServer version.I try to pump over data from Sybase to SQLServer to one table at aSQLServer user database, using a package containing a select statementon a View on the Sybase Server side, using an ODBC 12.5 System DSNpointing to the Sybase server. All privileges are set correctly oneither side and the ODBC datasource test gives an 'OK' on trying toreach the Sybase Server.When I do PREVIEW, I get a resultset alright, however, when I actuallyrun the package as a scheduled job, its keeps on running infinitelyuntil manually killed. No data at all is inserted in the the SQLServertable.Strange thing is, the same processes is running without anycomplications on a W2000 5.00.2195 (SP3), MDAC 2.7 system, with thesame SQLServer connecting to the same Sybase Server but using MerantASE ODBC 12.0 instead of ODBC 12.5.How come?Any help will be greatly appreciated.Martijn Rutte

I have two SSIS packages in the same project with, for each one, a (XML) configuration file.
I have created a Deployment Utility file (.SSISDeploymentManifest).
My problem is that, when I execute that utility file, I can't deploy more than one configuration file, the UI only ask for one.
Is anyone can help me ?
Thanks a lot.

I went through other threads and links on this subject. Still one thing which concerns me is the config files.
My current folder path is C:Karunakaranfolder1folder2
Under folder2 I have the following files
4 dtsx files
1 .database file
1 .dtproj file
1 .dtproj.user file
1 .sln file
1 .suo file
Config folder ( C:Karunakaranfolder1folder2Config)
common.dtsConfig
oracle.dtsConfig
Based on some of the threads, when I enabled package configuration, I changed the path from
C:Karunakaranfolder1folder2Configcommon.dtsconfig -> common.dtsconfig
Once I did this, when I open the project I get a dozen of warning similar to the one below
Warning loading <package1>.dtsx: Failed to load at least one of the configuration entries for the package. Check configurations entries and previous warnings to see descriptions of which configuration failed.
What am I doing wrong here? If I have to deploy this to another box, what should I do to ensure that nothing breaks once its copied / installed?
Thanks

Hello,
I'm wondering how to use the dtUtil command to deploy an ssis package but also include any of the miscellaneous files, such as some dtsconfig files. I'd like to be able to use the dtUtil command to specify where to put any "dependencies" that I have. If I create a deployment utility from BI Studio, I have the option on the third screen to choose the folder for dependencies, how come I don't see any parameters for that on the dtUtil command? Is it possible, or do I HAVE to deploy using the deployment utility created for me by BI Studio?
Thanks in advance,
Andy

I save the project, close it and open the project and the file is there under the Miscellaneous folder. I successfully deployed the project to the server. When I retrieve the project using the Integration Services Import Project Wizard, all of my package modifications are there and the packages up to date but the txt file I added to the Miscellaneous folder is not there.

Hi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))
Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Œ€„¢')
with 2 Unicode characters
Œ€ = 0x2300
„¢ = 0x2122
Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?„¢"
„¢ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f
When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'„¢')
and select again voila i see
"Œ€„¢"
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Thanks!!

I have a load (180,000+) of text files whose contents need to go into a SQL server database.Whats the best way of doing this? Using a c# console program and if so, using FileStream or StreamReader? Or using a feature of SQL server itself. The text files themselves are less that 1k and are literally less than 200 characters.The problem is, I've tried a WinForm and although I can detect what files are there, as soon as I attempt to open one for reading, everything stops working and won't insert anything to the database.

Hi allCould someone help me with the following problem? Hours of googlingyesterday couldn't get me the answer. I'm using SQL 2000 and DTS andtrying to import a huge fixed width text file.File is >1m rows and >200 columns and is defined by a proprietory (i.e. notbcp produced) format specification of the formName Start LengthFld1 0 20Fld2 19 5Fld3 24 53and so on.Tbe only way I've found to define the columns so that DTS can import thefile properly is to go through the wizard and click on the starts of eachcolumn. I don't want to use bcp if possible (I did enough of that onSQL7) - but surely there's a way to get DTS to read from a format file so Idon't have to click 200 times (with all the ensuing errors I could make).Any help greatly appreciated.CheersRob

I am trying to do here is to load different flat files to different tables:
For example, if the file name starts with "enrollment", then it goes to table "enrollment" table;
if the file name starts with "student", then it goes to "student" table.
For now, I created a foreach loop container for the each different files. So it ended up using several foreach loop containers. I am wondering if there is a way just to use one foreach loop containters to process the loading.
Anyone shed some light on this?? Thank you very much for your help!

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"
DB name: name of db instance
port: 1433(default)
user and pass.
My attempts so far results in
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."
and
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."

I am pretty new to SQL Server 2005 and SSIS. I am trying to develop a package that will dynamically load files into SS2005 based on the contents of a configuration table. The configuration table (see below for example) contains the path to the file, a flag indicating whether or not to process the flag, the type of file (specifies the nature of data -- financial, order, etc.) and some parameters specific to each file.
FileName
ProcessFlag
Type
ExcelTab
Param1
C:File1.xls
TRUE
1
Sheet1$
C:File2.xls
TRUE
1
Sheet1$
C:File3.xls
TRUE
1
Sheet1$
C:File4.xls
TRUE
2
Sheet1$
C:File5.xls
FALSE
2
Sheet1$
C:File6.csv
TRUE
3
C:File7.txt
TRUE
4
Right now I basically have a seperate sequence for each of the file types. The task in each sequence are virtually identical with the exception of the the data flow source in the data flow task (since the source file could be .xls, .txt, .csv). The first sequence ran fine in isolation, but when I linked a second sequence I started getting a Package Validation Error:
DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER
I use the same variables (FileName, ExcelTab) for each of the sequences, so I am not sure if that causes te error. I also tried changing the ValidateExternalMetadata setting to false, since the connection variable wont be applicable until that sequence is being processed. I am not sure where to go here ... should I rearchitect how the package all together?
Is there a better/most efficient way to to architect this package to handle the different file types (develop a package for each type which is called by a master package, create one package with a different sequence container for each type, etc).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The package I am developing is supposed to loop through this table checking for files with ProcessFlag = TRUE. For those files, it will load all of the records/columns (prefaced with the company and period keys) into a common table.
Do I have to manually create data sources for each file or is there a way to dynamically define the connection and process the connection?
Any assitance you could provide would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Hello people.
I am in the process of planning a server upgrade to sql2005 x64.
I created 2 linked servers: one to a SQL2000 sp4 server and one to a SQL7.0 SP3.
I have the following error when I query the linked servers.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "Unspecified error".
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "The stored procedure required to complete this operation could not be found on the server. Please contact your system administrator.".
Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES_INFO" for OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.
I am aware of KB 906954.

I applied the instcat.sql on the SQL2000SP4 server and my linked server issues for that one are gone.
However, I ran the instcat.sql script on the SQL7.0 sp3 server and the linked server is still giving me an issue.
Can someone help me find a solution to this?
