The Description field in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services just defaults to "Send e-mail to email@domain.com" (obviously a dummy e-mail address) when you create an e-mail subscription. You cannot edit the Description when you select "Edit" beside a subscription.
The Description may be edited directly in the Subscriptions table under the ReportServer database but this is not end-user friendly.
I thought of using an add/update trigger to set the Description to the "Subject" out of the Extension Settings field. The Extension Settings field is XML so you would have to parse the Subject out of there first. The "Subject" is the e-mail Subject for the e-mail that is sent to the subscriber and it much more adequately describes the report.
My boss understood what I wanted to do but wanted to make sure in the industry literature that the product was not that lacking. Hard to believe that you cannot directly edit the Subscription Description through the web browser interface - would love for someone to prove me wrong.
Getting an error on the following SQL. The field in question is the Description field which has * in the description. Not sure how I should have the SQL to solve this

On the Design Table screen for SQL 2000 there is a Description field along with the Default, Identity, etc. options. Once I put a description in there, is there a way to retrieve it through T-SQL?

I'm selectively migrating a load of data from one database to another and would like to be able to get & set a table fields Description property (as seen on the Design window under Column Properties) programmatically. I'm having a spot of bother in actually finding how to do it - anyone know?
Ta,
Rob
P.S. Just thought I'd mention - I do know about sp_addextendedproperty, and while I will use that if I have to, it would be nice to be able to use the existing column property Description so that when editing, the user can see the value.
I need to find out if a Transaction ID exists in Table A that does not exist in Table B. If that is the case, then I need to insert into Table B all of the Transaction IDs and Descriptions that are not already in. Seems to me this would involve If Not Exists and then an insert into Table B. This would work easily if there were only one row. What is the best way to handle it if there are a bunch of rows? Should there be some type of looping?
I doubt this is possible, but can someone think of a way to change the email address used for sending report subscriptions based on the report or subscription?
It's a need that I've heard from a number of different clients. Scenario: a company has one reporting services server with reports running from numerous departments. Report subscriptions are sent to internal and external email addresses and there's a business need to use different "from" addresses based on the report (or audience).
Hi All,In SQL Server how can I get the descriptions of tables in adatabase? From MSDN help I could find a way to get the description of columnsusing the following extended propertySELECT *FROM ::fn_listextendedproperty (NULL, 'user', 'dbo', 'table','Reports', 'column', default)ThanksRegardsSobhan
In oracle there is a describe command: describe table_name This command will tell you the columns names, datatypes, and length of the columns for that particular table. Does anyone know if there is a simliar command in SQL server that would do that? The only way that I have found so far is to do a join of the syscolumns with sysobject by table name.
I'm using SQL 2005. I want to add a description for each table on my database. How do I do that? I know I can add a description to each field, but how do I add a description to each TABLE? I tried going to Properties but don't see anything.
Newby question but can't find it myself. How can I get a file-description from a file / table ?eg. the decription must deliver the following info:Record nr.Field nr.FieldnameField descriptionData typeLenghtDecimalsetc....Can somebody please tell me what to do?ThanxMF
Any SQL/T-SQL command inside MsSQL Server 2000 can show the description of {all table columns or specified table columns} of specified table inside specified database?

How am i going to store in the Products table ? But not all products have these descriptions, other products may have no description at all.... If I store them in a text/memo DESCRIPTION field, then , I do not know how to format them into bullet form...
I would appreciate anyone knows the solution for me... Thanks in advance !
I am trying to get the schema of database using the getschema method. However, the schema that is being returned does not include the description. I have added in table and column descriptions for some of my tables and columns but the dataset returned does not include the description column.
Any idea on how to get the description to be output?

I have a question regarding saving hashtags in another table. I have two tables with these columns:
Table1 ItemId, Name, Description (it may contains several hashtags like this example "hey I am an #example of this #question")
Table2 HashtagId, ItemId, Hashtag
So I want to detect #example and #question and put them in Table2. I'd like to create a trigger for table1 that if there was a hashtag, it added a record in table 2.
CREATE TRIGGER [dbo].[tr_Events_ForInsert_Hashtag] ON Table1 FOR INSERT AS BEGIN DECLARE @ItemId bigint SELECT @ItemId = ItemId FROM inserted
I was wondering what the best way was to deal with subscriptions breaking due to an empty table. I have subscriptions that people have scheduled to go out daily, but on certain days the table may be empty, in this case the subscription doesn't read the parameters for the report and then the subscription breaks.
My original solution involved creating a #temp table with the same columns as the original table and inserting one row into it which I'd union with the original table, this row in the temp table had all its values set to 0. The solution worked when I ran it in SQL Server Management Studio but it seems SRS doesn't like the INSERT INTO statement, which is the error I get, but I've read on these forums that it doesn't like #temp tables either. I proceeded to use a stored procedure with all the code in it, but I might have trouble filtering on multi value parameters, because at times these parameter lists get real big, plus I have to do this for multiple reports and don't want to get into creating stored procedures for each report.
Following is what the code I used look something like that executes and does the job in Management Studio but not SRS. I'm mainly just looking for the easiest and cleanest way to do this, since it'll have to be done across multiple reports, so disregard the code if there's an easier way to do it. Thanks in advance.
create table #dummytable ( name varchar(35), country varchar(35), idnumber (int) ) GO
insert into #dummytable (name),values('0');
select name, country, idnumber from originaltable where name in (@name)
union select name = 0, country = 0, idnumber = 0 from #dummytable
I want to implement error handling my SSIS package. for this I am putting an execute SQL task for a container(which contains different interlinked tasks) in event handler.
Say my first task fails in this container.Immedaitely my sql task which inserts the error code and description should exceute in the event handler and populate my error table in OLAP database.
I'm admitedly a bit new to the world of replication, so please bear with me. I've got two SQL Server 2000 servers running in different locations. Server A does transactional replication over a push subscription to server B. If I need to make a minor change to one of the replicated tables (for example, dropping a no longer used column or changing a varchar field's length) do I need to drop the subscription, make the changes and then re-initialize the schemas and data?
For minor changes, I really hate having to knock out the site runnign off server B while the subscription is re-initialized and data is bulk copied back over. If I want to just make the changes manually on both servers will that cause problems down the line?
Hi guys, I need to get a column with the sum of the field "SUF" from table "JurnalTransMoves_1" when that field ("SUF") is ordered by the field "REFERENCE" from table "Stock", and Show the value only once.
The desired result should by something like:
Stock.REFERENCE JurnalTransMoves.SUF SUM(JurnalTransMoves.SUF) Group By Stock.REFERENCE
5752 10 60
5752 20
5752 30
5753 400 3000
5753 500
5753 600
5753 700
5753 800
5754 7 15
5754 8
Is there any chance to do that? Thanks in advance, Aldo.

I need to write the countryid of table 2 to the field countryid in table1 using the criteria of the correspoinding country name table 2 to country of table 1 if it write countryid else 0..
Hi, I have one table (PermProportionalCosting) that contains employeecode, costcentre and proportionpercentage. An employee may have two or more records in this table, indicating that their salary has been split across multiple costcentres.
Another table (Employee) contains a default costcentre for each employee.
Another table (TransActualHistoricalMaster) contains the hours paid to each employee for each pay period.
My query so far selects all employees and the total hours worked from the TransMaster table, and then selects the costcentre and proportionpercentage from the PermProportionalCosting table. Multiple lines are created for all employees in the PermProportionalCosting table, with each line indicating the proportionpercentage and associated costcentre.
This is my query so far:
SELECT TransActualHistoricalMaster.EmployeeCode, Employee.PreferredName, Employee.LastName, CostCentre.Description, PermanentProportionalCosting.CostCentreCode,PermanentProportionalCosting.PercentageSplit, TransActualHistoricalMaster.OrdHours FROM TransActualHistoricalMaster INNER JOIN Employee ON TransActualHistoricalMaster.EmployeeCode = Employee.EmployeeCode INNER JOIN CostCentre ON Employee.CostCentreCode = CostCentre.CostCentreCode FULL OUTER JOIN PermanentProportionalCosting ON TransActualHistoricalMaster.EmployeeCode = PermanentProportionalCosting.EmployeeCode GROUP BY TransActualHistoricalMaster.EmployeeCode, Employee.PreferredName, Employee.LastName, CostCentre.Description, PermanentProportionalCosting.CostCentreCode, PermanentProportionalCosting.PercentageSplit, TransActualHistoricalMaster.OrdHours
This next bit is what I am unsure of.
I would like the CostCentre field from the Employee table to go into the PermanentProportionalCosting.CostCentreCode column where the employee doesn't have a record in the PermanentProportionalCosting table. In the above query, there is a null value for each employee that doesn't have a record in the PermanentProportionalCosting table, so I would like my query to replace the null value with the costcentre from the Employee table.
Table 1: AddressBook Fields --> User Name, Address, CountryCode
Table 2: Country Fields --> Country Code, Country Name
Step 1 : I have created a Cube with these two tables using SSAS.
Step 2 : I have created a report in SSRS showing Address list.
The Column in the report are User Name, Address, Country Name
But I have no idea, how to convert this Country Code to Country name.
I am generating the report using the Layout tab. ( Data | Layout | Preview ) Report1.rdl [Design]
Anyone help me to solve this issue. Because, in our project most of the transaction tables have Code and Code description in master table. I need to convert all code into corresponding description in all my reports.
I need create a field to store tax rate. I need only 2 decimal points. I defined the field as decimal, precision=5 and scale=2. Does it mean that it can hold value from 0.00 to 999.99?
I am trying to find a reference for a client that lists the fields available to be substituted into a data driven subscription from the query, along with the expected data types. For example, the field on whether or not to include a link to the report seems to be expecting a bit data type.I have searched and can't seem to find anything. I guess I could walk through the interface and try different data types, but if a list exists, that would be better.
