Detect Missing Records In Flat File

I am importing records from a flat file to a database table. If a record is in the table but NOT in the flat file, I need to update a date column in the table.

Any ideas?

Flat File Import, Ignore Missing Columns?

I'm new to SSIS, and trying to automate data imports from text files. The text files I'm importing always contain a fixed set of columns, or a subset of those columns. If I include a subset of columns in the import file (and exclude others), the data doesn't import...I assume because the actual file doesn't include every column defined in the flat file source object?

Is it possible to accomplish this without dynamically selecting the columns, as indicated here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms136020.aspx

Hi,

How I set the Transform Data Task Property in SSIS package????

As I designed SSIS.. where I mapped my text file columns to database table columns but if I selected wrong input text file having less columns than database table then how I will come to know that it is wrong input file????
or in the correct file suppose if i have three columns input then at in table i am getting worng values i.e. 1st column of 2nd row is placed in fourth column of previous row in DB table......that is very weird situation

suppose my DB table contain 4 columns and my (wrong) text file contain 2 columns then i should get error message that column003 is not found???? like that happened in DTS 2000

my SSIS mapping is like

Table Column-------------->Text file
ID------------------------------->ID
Name------------------------->Name
City---------------------------->City
Country---------------------->Country

Now suppose my text file contain only these records with CSV
1;Jhon
2;Paul

Then in DB table I am getting
1 Jhon 2 Paul

Please help me out...

Flat File Source Option Missing In The Sql Server Import && Export Wizard.

I want to import a txt file data to a sql server database table, to do this i used sql server import and export wizard. In this when we choose a Data Source, the option Flat file source is not coming up in the combo box in the wizard.



I am using sql server 2005, Management Studio to do this.



steps 1. right click on the database --> all tasks --> import data --> sql server import export wizard --> choose data source dialog box....

Flat File Destination - Don't Create File If 0 Records

Hello friends,

I have the following (simplified):

1. Flat File Source
2. Conditional Split, Case Good = !ISNULL(KEY) Case Error = ISNULL(KEY)
3. Case Good -> Writes to Good Flat File (with timestamp in the title)
4. Case Error -> Writes to Error Flat File (with timestamp in the title)

Most job runs have no errors but the error file is created as a zero byte file anyway. If there are no error records I don't want the error file created. How might I accomplish this?

DTS Text File Export Missing Records

Hello,We have a query which returns ~2.8 million rows. This same query isused in a DTS package, which exports to a text file. The number ofrows in this text file, however, is ~2.7 million rows (I'm rounding ofcourse.) Not Able To Extract All Records From A Flat File

I have a flat file that has over 50,000 records. When I import that file into my table I'm only able to extract 26,612 rows.

I'm using a Flat File connection manager
The format for this connection is Ragged Right
There are about 25 columns, or so
My Data Flow Source is a Flat File (Imagine that!)

I appreciate any ideas that you may have.

Reading Records In A Flat File

Hello,

I am making my first attempt at creating a script for a Script Task. The script needs to do the following;

1. find the length of each record in a single fixed width flat file
-file location; C:LearningSettlementDataTestSC15_CopiesSingleFile
-file name; CDNSC.CDNSC.SC0015.111062006 (no file extension)
2. if a record is found that is longer than 384 characters;
a. copy the record out to a text file
-location;C:LearningSettlementDataTestSC15_CopiesErrantRecords
-file name; ErrantRecords.txt
b. delete record from the flat file where the record length is > 384.

If I can get this to work on a single file, I want to implement it with multiple files. I would imagine that using a ForEachLoop container with the script task 'inside' would be the way to go for multiple files. I have a connection manager set up for the single file and a MultiFlatFile connection manager set up for the whole collection of files. All of the files have the same schema. I don't know if the connection managers are going to be useful to me with what I'm trying to do, but I have them set up.

If you have some input on where I can find resources on how to do this, or have some code to pass along, please share.

How To Dump Records From The Table To The Flat File?

I'm using sqlserver 2000 enterprise edition. I am an oracle dba and we have some tables in sqlserver 2000 that we need to write out to the flat file. I have a procedure in oracle to do this for oracle tables. But, how would I do this in sqlserver 2000. I have 10 columns on this table and I only want 3 columns data to be dumped on the flat file. We are on NT sever 4.0.

Flat File Records Dropped During Import

Hello,
I am attempting to import a fixed width flat file into a SQL Server table. When I import the file, 704 records don't make it into the table. I know this because if I do the import with MS Access 2003 into an Access table, all of the records from the flat file make it into the table. The flat files have a .txt extension.

The only possible problem that I can see is that some of the rows in the flat file do not contain the full set of characters. When I do the import into SQL Server and create a table on the fly, I still end up 704 records short. There are no error messages during or after the import.

I suppose I could isolate some of the missing records, put them into a different file and try to import them to see what would happen. Other than that, how do I begin to troubleshoot this problem? Are there known issues where records can be dropped from a fixed width file?

Using SQL To Append Records To A Table From A Flat File Using DTS

What I would LIKE to do is noted in the subject line. What I'm findingis that "edit SQL" appears to only be an option if I am creating atable. If I select "append to" the option to edit SQL shades itself asunavailable.The reason I'd like this is that there is a datum in the flat file thatindicates whether that record should be appended to that table notedabove. There are other ways of dealing with this "problem" but it wouldbe nice to be able to control it using SQL, in the DTS import/exportwizard.If the source of my data is an SQL table, I can generate an SQL queryto specify what fields to import in an append, to check for existingvalues, etc...Is there a way around this? I can reserve a table for data transfers,regularly overwrite it with new data from text file inputs, and use SQLto insert select fields from that transfer table to other databasetables. (From this "transfer" table, data needs to be inserted intofour separate tables in our database).I hope this is clear. If it CAN'T be done this way, it's okay...just alittle ugly with the need to re-create the transfer table.

SQL Server 2014 :: Send CSV File With DB Sendmail - Missing Records

I am trying to send a csv file with 15000 records via the database mail in SQL Server 2014. The problem is that when I open my email the csv only contains 209 records. I have tried the same thing in SQL Server 2012 and it works as expected - it sends the 15000 records in the csv.

I have tested this on several sql servers with 2014 edition on them, and I have the same issue on all of them. The query breaks off at different points on each sever - for example one of them breaks off at 209 records as i said above, another one at 307. The last record always gets truncated at the same place. The csv attachment size it's about 64 kb - which is well below the 4MB limit i've configured the database Maximum File Size bytes parameter.

What i am doing basically is creating a job that is meant to execute a stored procedure and send the results in a csv in an email. The stored procedure is something like:

select col1, col2, col3
from table A1

where col1 > 1000 order by col1

Writing Parent/Child Records To Flat File

I have a set of parent/child records that need to be exported to a space delimited Flat File. Each parent record must be followed by 3 child records, each on their own line with different format.

I have a prototype using the Derived Column component that concatinates the various fields of each record into one "wide" text column. This fools SSIS to think that each row has the same format. Then I merge them together using an artificial sort id. But this seems overly tedious and very brittle.

What would be the best approach to writing these records out? I'm hoping there is a better more maintainable method.

Records From Internal Table Not Output In Order To Flat File

Hi -

I have a SSIS package that dumps data from an internal table to a flat file output using standard data flow tasks. The entire table is output - no special SQL. Most of the time the records are placed in the output file in the same order as the internal DB table, but occasionally the order appears to be more random. When that happens, the record order in the internal table is correct - it is just the output.

I can find no properties that seem to affect this. I would appreciate any hints and advice that anyone can give me. Has anyone else encountered this same problem?

Unable To Edit Pre-defined Flat File Connection Manager Properties In The Flat File Destination Editor

Hi,

I am testing SSIS and have created a Flat File Destination. I defined the Flat File Connection as New for the first time and it worked fine. Now, I would like to go back and modify the Flat File Connection in the Flat File Destination Editor, but it allows only to create a New connection rather allowing me to edit the existing one. For testing, I can go back and create a new connection, but if my connection had 50-100 columns then it would be an issue to re-create it from scratch.

Did someone else faced this issue?

Flat File Connection Manager Throws Error When A Column Gets Added To The Flat File

Hi,

I have a situation where a tab limited text file is used to populate a sql server table.

The tab limited text file comes from a third party vendor. There are fixed number of columns we need to export to the sql server table. However the third party may add colums in the text file. Whenenver the text file has an added column (which we dont need to import) the build fails since the flat file connection manager does not create the metadata for it again. The problem goes away  where I press the button "Reset Columns" since it builds the metadata then. Since we need to build the tables everyday we cannot automate it using SSIS because the metadata does not change automatically. Is there a way out in SSIS?

Output Column Width Not Refected In The Flat File That Is Created Using A Flat File Destination?

I am transferring data from an OLEDB source to a Flat File Destination and I want the column width for all of the output columns to 30 (max width amongst the columns selected), but that is not refected in the Fixed Width Flat File that got created. The outputcolumnwidth seems to be the same as the inputcolumnwidth. Is there any other setting that I am possibly missing or is this a possible defect?

Converting Flat File To SQL2005 Table (Flat File From H***)

First, a couple of important bits of information. Until last week, I had never touched SISS, and therefore, I know very little about it. I just never had the need to use it...until now. I was able to convert my first 3 flat files to SQL2005 tables by right clicking on "SISS Package" and choosing "SISS Import and Export Wizard". That is the extent of my knowledge! So please, please, please be patient with me and be as descriptive as possible.

I thought I could attach some sample files to this post, but it doesn't look like I can. I'll just paste the information below in two separate code boxes. The first code box is the flat file specifications and the second one is a sample single line flat file similar to what I'm dealing with (the real flat file is over 2 gigs).

As you can see, each entry could have any number of records and multiples of some of the record types, with one exception, every entry must have a "01" record and can only have one "01" record. Oh, and each record has a length of 400.

I need to get this information into a SQL 2005 database so I can create a front end for accessing the data. Originally, I wanted one line for each account and have null values listed for entries that don't have a specific record. Now that I've looked at the data again, that doesn't look like a good idea. I think a better way to do it would be to create 5 different tables, one for each record type. However, records 2 through 5 don't have anything I can make a primary key. So here are my questions...


Is it possible to make 5 tables from this one file, one table for each of the record types?

If so, can I copy the Account number in record 01, position 13-19 in each of the subsequent record types (that way I could link the tables as needed)?

Can this be done using the SISS Import and Export Wizard to create the package? If not, I'm going to need some very basic step by step instructions on how to create the package.

Is SISS the best way to do this conversion or is there another program that would be better to use?
I know this is a huge question and I appreciate the help of anyone who boldly decides to help me! Thank you in advance and I welcome anyone's suggestions!

How can I take this example Flat file and parse out each section to a new flat file?  Each section starts with HD (header row)

e.g. an example output file based on above (cutting out the first section) would be:

Also, I'll need to grab a certain value in each header row (certain position in the 100 byte header row) to use that as part of the filename that's outputed.  I assume it would be better to insert these rows into a temp table then somehow do a search on a specific position in the row...but that's impossible?  The other route is to insert each row into a temp table separated out by fields but that is going to be too combursome because we have several formats to determine separation of fields based on the row type so I'd have to create many temp tables and many components in SSIS when all we want to do is again:

1) output each group (broken by each header row) into it's own txt file

2) use a field in  the  header row as part of the name of the output txt file (e.g. look at the first row, whcih is a header row in flat_file_example. txt.  I want to grab the text 'AR10' and use that as part of the filename that I create

Any suggestions on how to approach this whole process in SSIS...the simplest approach that will work ?

I want to find all the records that are in t2 but are not in t1.
(NOTE: table print outs at bottom of post)

I could write this:

BUT it takes to long.

So I thought of this:

BUT it doesn't work.

WHY NOT?
Is there anything similar that i can write???

Automatically Add Missing Records With SQL

I have a table that contains 2 columns. The first column has the datetime, and the second has a value (see the "Before" table). In my SELECT query I want to select all records like 0:00:00 <= Date <= 0:40:00. However the missing 10-minutes value 0:30:00 should be automatically inserted with value = NULL.

Missing Records In The Replication Destination DB

Hi Gurus,

We have a SQL 2000 DB1 ( publisher) which is replicated using transactional replcation onto the secondary server DB2 ( subscriber). we have identity columns on the DB1 and we created those tables with 'not for replication' clause. we skipped the following errors in the replication profile '2601:2627:8102:20598'. on DB2 ( the subscriber ) some records are missing in some tables . ( I verified this with record count differences for some tables in both the servers DB1 & DB2.

How to find out what are all the records missing & the cause.

I have listed the msrepl_errors table on DB1 , distribution databases all I'm seeing there are error code 8102 , unable to update identity column.

Any Idea is appreciated.

Missing Records After COMMIT TRAN

Can you think about any reason for why when using a transaction after the COMMIT TRAN the inserted new record is not in the table and there is a gap in the identity????

I'm using SQL 2000 SP3, there are no triggers are on the table and it happanes only under heavy load.

Find Missing/deleted Records?

I have 2 tables say table1 and table2 with the same structure. Each recordis identified by a field 'SerialNo'. Now there should be a total of 500000records in both tables with serialno from 1 to 500000. Either a record is intable1 or table2. I want to find records (or SerialNo's) that are inneither table (if deleted by accident etc). What would be the sql query?I'm using SQL 6.5thx
