Hi
Can anyone advise me as to how I can add the date and time to 2 columns in the sql server database for each record that is added. I'd prefer not to use the webform. Can sql server add the date automatically to the row?
thanks
Hi! could you please check my code on adding record on my DB.. Im using SQL Server included on VWD.Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim con As String = "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Request.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" Dim sqlcon As New Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(con) Dim sqlcmd As New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("Insert into uRequest (eticket, ename, edept, edetails, ejobpend, edate) values (@eticket,@ename,@edept,@edetails,@jobpend,@edate)") sqlcon.Open() sqlcmd.Parameters.Add("@eticket", Data.SqlDbType.Char, 10).Value = "11-0010-06" sqlcmd.Parameters.Add("@ename", Data.SqlDbType.Char, 100).Value = User.Identity.Name sqlcmd.Parameters.Add("@edept", Data.SqlDbType.Char, 50).Value = DropDownList1.Text sqlcmd.Parameters.Add("@edate", Data.SqlDbType.DateTime).Value = Date. Now sqlcmd.Parameters.Add("@edetails", Data.SqlDbType.Text).Value = TextBox1.Text sqlcmd.Parameters.Add("@ejobpend", Data.SqlDbType.Text).Value = TextBox2.Text sqlcon.Close() End Sub I've check the Data on my DB but nothing has been added. nwy, how can u create a confirmation message if the record has been successfully added. Thanks and sorry for the trouble.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to retreive the identity field value of a record that was just added to the table.
In other words, I have a form and on submission, if it is a new record, I would like to know the identity value that the SQL Server has assigned it.
This may be overkill, but here is my code to process the form:
Protected Sub processForm(ByVal thisID As String, ByVal myAction As String)
Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("connectionString"))
sqlConn.Open()
Dim sql As String
Select Case myAction
Case "save"
If thisID > 0 Then
sql = "update INCIDENT set " & _
"RegionID = @RegionID, " & _
"DistrictID = @DistrictID, " & _
"DateReported = @DateReported, " & _
..CODE...
"WHERE IncidentID = " & myIncidentID
Else
sql = "insert into INCIDENT(" & _
"RegionID, " & _
"DistrictID, " & _
"DateReported, " & _
...CODE...
") " & _
"values(" & _
"@RegionID, " & _
"@DistrictID, " & _
"@DateReported, " & _
...CODE...
")"
End If
Case "delete"
sql = "delete from INCIDENT where IncidentID = " & myIncidentID
Case Else
End Select
Dim sqlComm As New SqlCommand(sql, sqlConn)
sqlComm.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@RegionID", SqlDbType.NVarChar))
sqlComm.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@DistrictID", SqlDbType.NVarChar))
sqlComm.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@DateReported", SqlDbType.NVarChar))
...CODE...
sqlComm.Parameters.Item("@RegionID").Value = ddRegionID.SelectedValue
sqlComm.Parameters.Item("@DistrictID").Value = ddDistrictID.SelectedValue
sqlComm.Parameters.Item("@DateReported").Value = db.handleDate(txtDateReported.SelectedDate)
...CODE...
Dim myError As Int16 = sqlComm.ExecuteNonQuery
'Response.Redirect("incident.aspx?id=" & )
End Sub
The response.redirect at the end of the sub is where I would like to put the identity field value.
Hi,
Is there a built in capability with sql server 2005 which sends emails to users upon a record insertion.
Thanks
I'm hoping one of you will be able to help me because I haven't had very good luck finding any information on this.
I'm kind of new to SQL, but I'm learning as much as I can.
I created a web form that sends a new record to a SQL 2005 table I setup.
This all works exactly as it should, but I would like to have an email sent out every time a record is added to this table.
I have SQL Mail setup and I ran a test and it worked, but I can't seem to find any info on how to create a trigger that will send an email to me when a new record is added to the table.
My Database is called Engineering
The table is called ESSPartNumLog
And I have the following Columns that I would like to send in my email..
ESSSequence (PK,int, not null)
MaterialType (nvarchar(255, null)
ESSPrefix (nvarchar(255, null)
PartDescription (nvarchar(255, null)
Project (nvarchar(255, null)
PM (nvarchar(255, null)
Any ideas, or can you point me in the right direction?
Please help me somebody solve my problem with my first :o trigger: ALTER TRIGGER partner_update ON dbo.partner FOR UPDATE AS INSERT INTO partner (name) SELECT name FROM deleted UPDATE invoice SET id_partner= *** WHERE id_partner = (SELECT id_partner FROM deleted) *** - here I want to add a "reference" to the newly added record's automatically generated primary key (not to the updated!) Is it possible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHello.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but I was hoping to get an answer
here. I'm creating a Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone program which
uses SqlCeResultSets as its data objects.
I was wondering if there is
anyway to easily tell if there are records which have been inserted
into the local DB but have not been sync'd up to the publisher yet.
I use merge replication to sync the device with the host and I know
that the merge replicator obviously can tell the difference. Is there
any special field or flag that I can check to see if the record is
only local, on the subscriber side??
Thanks!

I'm trying to determine which user has locked a given record from VB6.I know I can use sp_lock and sp_who, and match up the data to determinewhich users have locked records in my database, however I haven't seen a wayto match the specific user to the specific record. What am I missing here? Thanks!*David*

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery night we connect to a remote server using Linked Server and copy details from that database to a loading table, then load it into the 'real' table in our own environment. The remove database we load it from has indexes/primary keys that match the 'real', however the 'loading' table itself does not have any indexes or primary keys, both are SQL Server 2005 machines.
In the loading table we first of all truncate it then do a select insert statement from the remote server, then we then truncate the 'real' table and load iit from the 'loading' table.
The issue is when we attempted to load it into our 'real' table from our loading table there was a duplicate row, and our process failed with a Primary Key violation.
I checked the source with does have the same primary key's in, it did not contain a duplicate row and I checked the loading table and that did contain a duplicate row.
My question this is in what circumstances this could happen ?
,I am creating a database where each record is required to have a twin record in the database. These is a type a value and a type b value and both must be present for the record to be valid.
Customer_ID, Order_Type, Product_Code
54, a, 00345
54, b, 00356
Is this something that would have to be done programmatically, or is it possible to create a constraint of some sort to ensure this?
Dear All,
i dont know the exact reson why, but i'm guessing the reason for each table had a new guid column is because of transactional replication with update subscribers. actually i dont need this.
can i change this to transactional replication? or i need to drop the column in each table? please guide me

What is the most reliable way to determine the last LSN of a database? I've looked in sys.database_files to no avail. I've also looked in msdb.dbo.backupset which is accurate but only based on backups already performed not the current state of the database.

Problem: I can add 4 items to a SQL 7.0 database but I need to redirect the user if all 4 items exist in the same Record elsewhere in the Database.
Clearly I need some kind of statement like "if category1 = var1 AND category2 = var 2 AND..." but don't know where to put it.
Code:
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM tblUserQuarter"
Set objRS = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
objRS.Open strSQL, objConn,adOpenStatic , adLockOptimistic
'Insert choices from report.asp into tblUserQuarter
objRS.AddNew
objRS("cboFY") = Request.Form("cboFY")
objRS("Quarter") = Request.Form("Quarter")
objRS("ID") = Request.Form("ID")
objRS("Report") = Request.Form("Report")
objRS.Update
objRS.Close
Set objRS = Nothing
objConn.Close

Hi There
I am trying to establish the date a database was last used.
At first i checked out sp_helpfile and sysfiles to see if there was a date last modified, i also tried using xp_cmdshell to check the date on the actual .mdf or .ldf on the o/s but if the file has not grown the date will be the create date.
I need to establish the date a database was last used, either the last time someone logged into it or the last time any sort of command was run against the database, i cannot use sysprocesses as there are no connections to the database, so i need to determine the last time there actually were any processes run against this database.
And i need to use tsql, checking audit logs etc is not viable, can anyone help ?
Thanx
Does anybody know of a way to determine the last date/time a table has been accessed (query/update)? I've done enough research to know that this isn't easy. However, perhaps somebody has figured out a way through some of the stats that SQL Server keeps to determine the last access of a table. I have recently been put on a team that had no DBA and has a number of databases out there. They would like to determine which databases are inactive and get rid of them. I am a developer and haven't had much SQL Server Administration experience. Any info will help greatly! Thanks!

Is it possible to determine the data flow within a database? e.g. I start by adding/inserting a record in MainTable1, then through a trigger SubTable1, SubTable2 have records inserted into, SubTable3 has a record updated into, then a StoredProcedure1 is run which updates first SubTable4, then a StoredProcedure2 is run which adds a record in SubTable5. So by simply adding a record in MainTable1, I affect 5 other tables.
Imagine a more complex process than this one now (which I'm currently facing and I want to win time and precision; I will still investigate it myself (if I will find an answer first - I will post it here)) Is there a way I could "extract" this flow by using T-SQL?
