We've just completed a migration to SQL Server 2005, and I'm wondering what needs to be installed on our developer workstations and whether it requires a licence or not. Sorry, i know this is a dumb newbie question!
I've just reached the end of my frustration with trying to learn MSDE with no interface (in addition to simultaneously learning ASP.NET), so I'm going to install 2K Developer Edition. However, I'd like to know if it's safe install it on top of MSDE. I'm currently running XP Pro, VS.NET, IIS 5.x, so I'm afraid that if I have uninstall MSDE that I'll break a bunch things that I've painstakingly configured. ;-)
I'm trying to install a default instance of Developer edition on alaptop. I'm getting the following promblems shown in sqltp log. Thelaptop has previously had the SQL Developer installed but has sincehad OS installed.I've tested named pipes to another server (net view, net use) and itseems to be working.any ideas ?Starting Service ...Latin1_General_CI_AS-m -Q -T4022 -T3659Connecting to Server ...driver={sql server};server=J6Y741J;UID=sa;PWD=;database=master [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]Connection broken.[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionRead(GetOverLappedResult()).driver={sql server};server=J6Y741J;UID=sa;PWD=;database=master [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]Connection broken.[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionRead(GetOverLappedResult()).driver={sql server};server=J6Y741J;UID=sa;PWD=;database=master [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]Connection broken.[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionRead(GetOverLappedResult()).SQL Server configuration failed.
Developer Edition was purchased for $50, will not install, during installation process got warnings for IIS and minimum hardware requirement. My site/DB developer talked me through the steps to completely uninstall SQL on supportmiscrosoft only to get this error notice: "Setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore." I called MS only to be told it would cost $245 to talk to a tech or $99 to email one. Any suggestions? I had SQL Express for a few days and it worked fine but my developer felt I needed the Developer Edition so his company purchased that for me. I uninstalled Express before trying to install Dev Ed - my first attempt to install ended up in a flash of a blue screen then a reboot. Thanks in advance for any help.
Can I have both of them installed ? I work on applications sometimes on two different machines. One has Visual studio w/ sql 2005 developer edition, the other with express editions of both. Can I install sql express on my workstation that already has developer edition ?
OK folks... here is my deal. I have had the SQL 2005 Dev. Installed on my machine for 6 mos or so. I have had an issue with VS2003,2005 and attempting to get 2008 to use some Silverlight applications...
Long story short...Nothing is working for me and I know want to get my system back to ground zero (Prior to Silverlight desires) I have had to un-install several items. I am also trying to regain the VS2005 that came in my SQL2005 install.
Anyway - I can not un-install my SQL2005 stuff from my PC?
I have Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO) and the SS 2005 Developerthat comes with it, all of which I can install on my local XP box.1. Which one do I install first, VSTO or SS 2005 Developer??2. Regardless of which one is installed first, what's the best wayafter that to move or copy database objects like tables, queries, reports, etc. from the XP/developer box to an SS 2005 Server??Thank you, Tom
I've just installed SQL 2005 32-bit developer edition on my WinXP pro w/ SP2 machine. Previously, it had an instance of Sql 2000 with VS 2005.
I am looking to use the XML features of SQL 2005. However, a "FOR XML PATH" query gives me an error "Incorrect syntax near 'PATH'".
The properties for my local, upgraded instance show a version of 8.00.760. However, all that appears in the SQL Server Configuration Manager is Integration Services and Reporting Services - no database engine.
Finally, there does not appear to be any tables in the installed AdventureWorks2000 database.
I'm not sure if this is correct but this installs all the components properly except "Microsoft SQL Server 2005". This component failes with the below error. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event Type: Error Event Source: MsiInstaller Event Category: None Event ID: 10005 Date: 4/8/2008 Time: 3:33:03 PM User: NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM Computer: HYDTEST15 Description: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29503. The error is (1067) The process terminated unexpectedly. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually I didn''t know how to install SQL to run the services with Syatem account. I read through some forums and found that I should use domain account for this purpose. If I dont give any account details Installation will fail saying the account details for service are not specified.
I thought of running the installation with any domain account and then use a script to chage the sevice to run with system account so that user can use it.
I have the log file but its a 12 mb file. I couldn't find an option to install attach the file.
I have read the system requirement readme file and found that we can install the SQL Server 2005 on Developer mode. I Have SQL Server 2005 Enterprise but inside the setup directory i found sqlrun_DTS.msi, is this installer for developer ? Well if so then here is the problem when i try to install.
Hi: I have installed SQL 2005 Developer Edition and VS 2005. Do I need to also install SQL 2005 Express edition too?????
My version of VS2005 is proffesional. I cannot seem to find SQL 2005 Developer Edition in the Server Explorer of VS2005. So I am wondering if I need to install SQL 2005 Express. Before I had SQL 2000 and MSDE installed with VS2003 and there was no problem.
I know people have put up this question before but I wanted some updated feedback. I just bought Visual Studio Tools for MS Office and it comes with SQL Developer Edition. I am currently using VS.net 2003 and using MSDE with MS SQL Web Data Administrator to build my dbs then export the sql script. I was wondering if I should uninstall the MSDE and install the DEv Ed so I can develop all the triggers, constraints etc through Enterprise Manager, therefore having a better setup DB. I know you can do all that through code but why reinvent the wheel. One last question, with the Dev Ed you just export the schema and scripts to a machine with SQL Server installed once the DB is ready for deployment ? Is this correct? I lied one more question, does the uninstall of MSDE leave much of a mess, what is the best way to get rid of it. Thanks in advance Pete
I am trying to install SQL 2005 Developer but when I get to the setup screen for Components to Install, Reporting Services is greyed out. Does anyone know why?
How can I install SQL Server 2000 Developer edition from the CD's of Visual Studio.Net 2000 Enterprise Architect ?
When I install VS.Net Enterprise Architect I do not see any install option for SQL Server 2000 Developer, though the MSDE option does appear during the installation. However, I was not interested in MSDE.
In the past I've used MSDE with Visual Studio.NET 2003. I'm going to start studying for an MCP in SQL Server 2000 so I'll probably get SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition. Will I be able to install this on my PC if it already has MSDE installed, or will I need to remove MSDE, etc? If there are any other things I need to be aware of please let me know. Also should I stick with SQL Server 2000 while studying for the exam, or would I probably be able to use SQL Server 2005 with a book that uses SQL Server 2000? I don't know how different they are.
I successfully installed .NET framework v 3.5 and VWD 2008 on a new Vista laptop. When I want to add a Sql Server database to a website, errors tell me to install SS 2005 Express. MSDN SS 2005 Express download tells me I MUST first install .NET framework v 2.0 before SS 2005. When I try to install framework v 2.0, I'm sent to v. 3.5 and no way to download SS 2005.
How does one install a express sql server to run with Visual Web Developer 2008?
I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 (Developer edition) on my Vista Ultimate machine.
I've got the IIS 7 features turned on; I've got the SP2 patch CD; and I've run every install as administrator. I've run the SQL Server setup before and after the SP2 patch
I'm doing a named instance using the built-in system account with windows authentication mode.
Is there any COMPLETE guide as to how to work through all these installation problems?
I've gotten same results after about six attempts.
These always install:

I'm at a complete loss, but I am sure the error is something about the configuration with this computer. I have fond a couple of posts on other web sites where people have similar errors, but no feedback on the error or even ideas on what to look at.
I am working on a automated install (simulated with a batch file first) and I am having issues when I trying to install SQL2005dev, then SP1 and then the hotfixes. The main issue is SP1 returns to the batch file while it is still running.
Does anyone know how to silently run SP1 and make it wait until after it is installed to continue (on to the hotfixes)?
Example batch file:
"SQLDEVSELSQL Server x86Serverssetup.exe" LOGNAME=C:setupsetup.cab /settings %temp%sqldevsel_1.ini /qb

Hi, I'm having a problem installing SQL2005 Developer on Windows Vista.
At the System Configuration check page, I'm getting the IIS Feature Requirement item telling me IIS is not installed or disabled. This is not the case.
I have read article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920201 and switched on the IIS components as specified.
I've tried installing with Firewall, virus checker etc switched off. Every time I get the same problem. This is an issue, as I specifically need Reporting Services installed.
I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition installed on XP Pro sp2 and have not been able to get OLE DB Provider for DB2 Version 1.0 with Service Pack 1 to install. After getting a notice that the install has failed, I get these log files:

Does anyone have an idea as to why the installation is failing?
TIA, Steve
P.S. Those aren't really smileys, they're actually semicolon Ds but I can't seem to get rid of the cartoon translation, even after checking the "This post contains a code sample" checkbox.
I have tried several times to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (most recently from MSDN Disk 3097.1) I have tried to complete an uninstall before each attempt.
I do get the warning about Minimum Hardware Requirement, but can find nothing in the detail requirements to exclude my PCs configuration.
I have installed: IIS and .NET Framework 2.0
I have also used ..aspnet_regiis -r to register ASP.NET
I am, successfully, running Visual Studio 2005.
Why does the installation process stop there and what can I do next?

I have installed:

Currently I am just trying to completely remove all Vista Ultimate's knowledge of installed instances of SQLServer 2005 Developer edition.
I cannot do this for some reason. This all began when I tried to install SQLServer 2005 and it installed but I could not connect to it. Now I have two installed instances that I cannot access, after removing all SQL programs from the Programs and Features icon in the control panel.
I tried running "WIndows Installer CleanUp Utility" as I read in a thread on this forum. This did not help. After going thru and removing all SQLServer programs using the "programs and features" icon in control panel... The installation process shows two installed instances of SQLServer 2005.
1) How can I completely erase all Vista Ultimate's knowledge of any SQLServer 2005 install and start over?
I have downloaded SQLServer 2005 SP 2, and run it, but clearly what I should do, and what Microsoft has asked me to do are not working...
2) What should I be doing to install SQLServer 2005 Developer Edition successfully?
I have been a strong supporter of Microsoft, but this is getting me very frustrated.
I want to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a computer with Vista Business. It looks like a lot of issues. (1) Can I do this? (2) Does anyone have any instrucions?
"Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online."
So, I went to the following and did everything documented about installing IIS 7.0.
I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!
