Different Edition Of SSIS
Apr 30, 2007
We have an application that needs SSIS on the application server to upload data to our SQL database server which runs enterprise edition. Do I need to install the same editon of SSIS on the application server? Can SQL 2005 Standard editon SSIS communicate with the Enterprise Edition? Thanks.

I found so many websites wrote that fuzzy grouping ,fuzzy lookup, term extraction, term lookup,Dimension processing destination adapter and Data mining model training destination adapter only available at Enterprise Edition.
Anyway i still can use these components at Standard Edition.
Is that any features different between these two edition for these components? Thanks

We've been trying to convert an application from MSDE to SQLServer 2005 Express Edition.
That application transfers some data form a SQLServer database to an Access database and the other way around. We have been using DTS, created/configured at run time by the application, to create the destination tables and to copy data from a db to another. In order to use DTS we distributed all components we needed, which are free.
Now, SQLServer 2005 Express Edition has SSIS intead of DTS. But the Express' installation does not provide them and also they are no longer free.
Is this correct?
Is there another way to create and run SSIS on SQLServer 2005 Express Edition?

Hello,
If I have an instance of SQL Server 2005 Workgroup, am I able to run simple ETL packages against it? By simple I mean:
1. Extract data from a comma separated flat file.
2. Load the flat file data to an Access (2002/2003) database.
3. Load the flat file data to a SQL 2005 table.
4. Execution of .dtsx package.
5. Ways to execute a package (i.e. can schedule a package to be run with the SQL Server Agent)?
6. Notification (i.e. SMTP email) on events from package (i.e. on error).
I have been using the Developer Edition, which I know has all/most of the features of Enterprise. How do the SSIS features change between Developer and Workgroup editions?
TIA!!!

I am a SQL 2005 newbie, but well-acquainted with SQL 2000. I am building a Data Mart ETL process that is going to be fairly small and fairly simple.
I surveyed SSIS and see that SSIS has much more capability than SQL 2000 Data Transformation Services (DTS) and is Microsoft€™s attempt at a full-featured ETL tool. It appeared I could possibly use SSIS to completely design, implement, and manage my ETL process.
We have SQL 2005 Standard Edition with Service Pack 1 applied. To further investigate SSIS capabilities, I used SSIS to design a process to populate a simple dimension table. When I use this process to populate a text file, it works fine. However, when I use the process to populate a dimension table, I get this error:
Error: 0xC113000A at Data Flow Task, Dimension Processing [772]: Errors related to feature availability and configuration: The 'Data Push' feature is not included in the 'Standard Edition' SKU.
This error seems to indicate that Standard Edition does not support populating the dimension table. However, I can find no documentation on the Internet nor any Microsoft site that further explains the specific error message above. Also, I can find little documentation about the specific SSIS restrictions that Standard Edition has in comparison to Enterprise Edition.
This experience leads me to the following questions:
1. To build an ETL process using only SSIS constructs (the €śpure-SSIS approach€?), are we going to need SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition? In other words, do you know if we will likely hit more restrictions if we continue with Standard Edition and attempt a pure-SSIS approach?
2. Does the lack of documentation about this specific error and the lack of documentation about Standard Edition SSIS specific restrictions imply SSIS is not (yet) adopted widely? (I realize it is fairly new). If we pursue the pure-SSIS approach, is it a risk that we would be somewhat on the €śbleeding edge€? and may encounter problems with little or no documentation?
3. Do you have any general thoughts on these two ETL approaches?
a. Pure-SSIS
b. Limited-SSIS plus custom non-SSIS processes
I would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks!

Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to use SQL Server Developer Edition to produce SSIS packages that will operate on a remote SQL Server Express Edition database?
The situation is such that it is easiest to install a SQL Server Express Edition database on a remote server (for use within a company intranet) due to server availability and licensing restrictions. It would be great to be able to do Excel round trips with the data though - would it be possible to use SQL Server Developer Edition to do this on another computer, and have it update the data in the Express database?
Thank you for your time.
Kind Regards,
Ray Muirhead

I understand there is no Import/Export data feature within SQL Server 2005 Express Edition but i was wondering if there is a way to use SSIS/DTS with SQL 2005 Express?
I have used the DTSWizard tool to create a number of DTS packages. I was hoping to be able to execute them from some C# code.
However, a lot of examples i have seen indicate that i need to add a reference to Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS.dll in order to do this. The problem is, i cannot find this .dll file anywhere. I'm told it should be in C/Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/90/SDK/Assemblies, but it isn't.
Is this because i only have the Express Edition installed and not the ful version of 2005?
Another .dll file i have found is Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPkg80. Is that in anyway useful? I'm not too familiar with the DTS and SSIS tools/processes.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Jon

Hi,
I am receiving the following error in Sql Job agent when I try to run an SSIS package : The task "Create Excel File" cannot run on this edition of Integration Services. It requires a higher level edition. It then goes on to tell me : The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (2) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. I have tried reseting the error count to allow for the "errors" , but it stills fails. The job suceeds in Visual Studio, but not when scheduled in Sql Management Studio. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
J.

Should I be able to use a SQL Server Compact Edition sdf file as the data source for the SSIS Import and Export Wizard?
When I select the .net Framework Provider for compact Edition from the data source drop down, I get a message box with "An error occured which the SSIS Wizard was not prepared to handle. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib) Specified method is not supported. (System.Data.SqlServerCe)"
We have a user with a sdf file that will no longer sync, so we wanted to get her data from sdf file tables into SQL Server tables quickly and easily. Since the SSIS wizard wouldn't work with the sdf data source, we copied SQL Server Mgmt Studio query results into an Excel spreadsheet via the Clipboard, them imported those records with SSIS. But we need a repeatable process in case this happens in the future.
We tried to reinitialize her merge replication subscription with SQL Server Mgmt studio, and with C# code, but none of that would work.
How many MS data provider options are available for SQL Server compact edition? I see ".Net Framework Data Provider for Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition" in the SSIS data source drop down, but shouldn't I also see an OLE-DB Provider for SQL Server Compact Edition?
This is all on my XP workstation where I can successfully write C# code for SQL Server Compact data access with Assembly = System.Data.SqlServerCe = C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDEPublicAssembliesSystem.Data.SqlServerCe.dll. So I think I have the proper tools installed.
Thanks.

Hi,
I€™ve developed a BI system using the SQL Server 2005 Developer€™s Edition.
SSAS, SSIS and SSRS have been added to a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server in preparation for delivering the developed database to this live environment.
So I am able to connect directly to the Database Engine, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS successfully from the actual SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition box which is sat on a Windows 2003 Server operating system.
However when I launch SQL Server Management Studio from a desk top PC which is connected to the SQL Server Standard Edition box I can€™t connect to either SSIS or SSRS, however I can connect to the Database Engine and it also seems that I can connect to SSAS OK.
I am using Windows Authentication where the I used a SQL Server account which exists with €śsysadmin€? permissions and this SQL Server account has the same login name as the Windows Server 2003 desktop login.
What do I do next please?

I am attempting to use the SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition (Management Studio) to create/manage a Compact Edition 3.5 database. My problem is that I cannot even create/open the compact database in Management Studio. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. TIA
Problem Creating the Compact Database:
Open 2008 Management Studio
From menu choose File | Connect Object Explorer...
Choose SQL Server Compact Edition as the Server type.
Choose <New Database...> as the Database file.
Browse to folder where file will be created (C:MyDatabase#1.sdf was used in my example)
Leave all other field as default selections OR make changes, either way it does not work.
Click OK.
At this point the OK button just becomes disabled and nothing happens.
Problem Opening An Existing Compact Database:
Open 2008 Management Studio
From menu choose File | Connect Object Explorer...
Choose SQL Server Compact Edition as the Server type.
Choose <Browse for more...> as the Database file and locate a ".sdf" file that I created using VS2008.
Enter password, if any.
Click OK.

Dear All,We have a database which contains many tables which have millions ofrecords. When We attach the database with MS SQL Server 2005 StandardEdition Server and run some queries (having joins, filters etc.) thenthey take very long time to execute while when We execute same querieson Enterprise Edition then they run 10 times faster than on standardedition. Our database does not use any features which are present in EnterpriseEdition and not present in Standard Edition. We want to know what arethe differences between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition forperformance. Why should we go for Enterprise Edition when StandardEdition has all the features required. We are presently using evaluation versions of SQL Server 2005 Standardand Enterprise Editions. Thanks and regards,Nishant Sainihttp://www.simplyjava.com

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following problem: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]The certificate cannot be dropped because one or more entities are either signed or encrypted using it.. To continue, correct the problem, and then run SQL Server Setup again.
This installation does not have encryption enabled, so I do not undersand the error or how to correct it.
After rebooting the SQL instance appears to be upgraded to Enterprise, but it cannot be upgraded to SP2.

Hi all--I'm researching the cleanest downgrade path from a trial edition of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise to a licensed Standard Edition copy. It looks like downgrading will entail uninstalling the old version and installing the new version, but I'd like to save the original setup as much as possible. Detaching the old databases will preserve the non-system databases; what method would work best for restoring the system databases?
Thanks!

The enterprise edition of SQL server includes some advanced BI features, for example the fuzzy lookup feature of IS. If the IS package lives on an enterprise edition of SQL server and the database the package it is targeting lives on a standard edition of SQL server can the advanced features be used? Can you run a fuzzy look against a database on a standard edition of SQL server when th IS package lives on an enterprise edition of SQL server? THANKS!

I have just migrated a complete SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 development server from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 Server. Â I just realized that I should not have used the Data center edition Product Key as this is Development server. Â I am being asked to downgrade to Developer edition. Â I have already migrated all the logins, databases(40 databases), cubes etc. Â I really can't uninstall and reinstall Developer edition. Â How else can I upgrade/downgrade to switch from Datacenter edition to Developer edition. Â

Hi
I am interested in taking MCTS exam 70-431 for sql server 2005 implementation and maintainance.
I have been reading the hardware requirements for the instalation of sql server versions and realise that enterprise and developer editions have same minimum requirements for the operation system.
I understand that the Developer Edition includes all the functionality of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, but it is licensed for use as a development and test system, not as a production server.
Also I undestand that the developer edition supports the Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 or later but the enterprise edition does not support this operating system. The evaluation/trial version is for the enterprise edition. Can I use the developer version of sql server 2005 for my practice exercises instead of using the trial version?
I have all hardware requirements for the trial enterprise version except that I am using Microsoft windows Xp home edition version 2002 with SP2. I am trying to see if I can use the developer version of sql server 2005 as it is cheaper for me to buy this software than buying the new operating system for my computer.
According to the microsoft book for the MCTS exam 70-431 there is a section which states that before you begin you should have Microsoft Windows Server 2003 running on your computer on an NTFS file system
(NTFS) partition. Will I still be ok to use the book and be able to do all the tests in the book if i am using the developer version of sql server 2005 with my Microsoft windows Xp home edition than using the trial version which comes with the book?
Thanks

I'd like to upgrade from my current SQL Server version: 09.00.3042 (Workgroup edition that comes with SBS upgrade) to the standard edition that I've just purchased. I've attempted to run setup.exe SKUUPGRADE=1 from the command prompt and it just tells me that there's nothing new to install.
I don't really want to uninstall the current installation just to do something that shouldn't be complicated to do, upgrading software versions should not be a difficult process.
Does anybody have any experience with this?

I believe it is possible to restore databases from Enterprise edition to an enviroment with Standard edition. We have been able to do it on databases without any partitioned tables. But if a database has partitioned tables it will not start up in the Standard edition after a successful restore. The error log states that the database will not start because partitions are not allowed in Standard edition (which we knew). But we were led to believe that the databases would restore and open fine, the partitions would just not be there in Standard edition. Are we possibly doing something wrong or will this just not work?
Thanks
