Disable TCP / IP Protocol Over Specific Network Interface
Jun 23, 2015
Scenario: Private SQL server that has a v6 public facing address. How can I disable the interface over my public address only but keep functionality over the local address?
IP1: 192.0.0.1
Active: Yes
IP2: 2600::5
Active: Yes
IP3: fc2e::5
Active: Yes
When I try to change IP1 and IP2 to Active: No it tells me file is read only.
I want to use TCP/IP network protocol on the server and have my clients using TCP/IP Net library. I have having some problems with this...The server will not register if I only have TCP/IP without Named Pipes using Standard Security in SQL Server. If I have TCP/IP and Named Pipes, the client can't register the server. Can someone explain in detail to me on using TCPIP on the server and client?
When I initially downloaded SQL Server Express the System tables were visible using SQL Server Management Studio Express. I was able to create a new database and define and populate a couple of small tables. I then attempted to set up an ODBC SQL Natvie Client connection so that I could print the table contents using Crystal Reports. That failed with the following error message: "An error occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections."
I subsequently uninstalled and reinstalled SQL Server Express. Now, I get the following error message whenever I try to connect to the database using SQL Server Management Studio Express. Additionally, the System tables are no longer visible. However, I can access my database via the Server Explorer in VS2005.
TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to STAN-DELLSQLEXPRESS. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 28 - Server doesn't support requested protocol) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1) For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=-1&LinkId=20476
I execute a pretty big sql query which joins multiple tables and I reviewed indexes on all these tables. I am happy with the result when I run the query using SSMS in the server locally i.e., where my SQL Server database is installed. It takes 4 seconds to get around 17000 records. If I run the same query in a network or from my desktop using SSMS i.e., i connect to the above mentioned SQL Server using SSMS, it takes more than 60 seconds. Not sure how to solve this. If someone could help me, it will be of great help.
I have a 3 tier app and want to build a dedicated network between the app server and it's DB server. Both machines have an interface on the main network and also an interface on the dedicated network. I want to force all the SQL traffic (or even all traffic if that is the only solution) between the app and it's SQL server onto the dedicated network......?
I have a dilema, I need to have a delete trigger enabled to track user deletes to update an external history table. However, when the posting process runs for the table for which the delete trigger runs, all the records from that table are deleted. Th end result is that instead of capturing the specific deletes, it shows all recods being deleted. I know you can disable foreign keys and triggers as a whole, can you do it for specific triggers?
I'm running dtexec with the /WarnAsErrors flag, to be sure to detect any configuration warning (configuration errors are actually throwed as warning, which is not sufficient) or any other important warning.
I only get one warning (0x80047076, optimisation warning). Is there a way to disable this specific warning ?
I found errors frequently in cluster events at  logs as below
"Cluster network interface 'Node1 - 10.X.XXX.1' for cluster node 'Node1' on network 'Cluster Network 1' failed. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges."
How to fix this issues? is it missing any patch OS or cluster side?
First-time poster (and very new to ASP.NET, so please be patient) - I am using VS 2005. I have an ASP.Net 2.0 app that is using Forms Authentication and a Login server control with AspNetSqlMembershipProvider. I have an instance of ASPNETDB.MDF in the App_Data directory on my local machine and all works well (or at least as expected). I used the Copy Web Site function to port the app (including the ASPNETDB.MDF files) to my production platform, where I encounter the error mentioned in the subject line. I have found posts (both here and other forums) that mention enabling TCP/IP using Surface Area Configuartion Utility, SQL Server Browser are exempt from firewall, and a few other things. My production machine does not have SQL SVR 2005 installed nor SQL SVR Express. Do I have to install SQL Server Express onto my production platform in order to resolve this, or is there another means (something in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio on my local machine) that will enable me to do this on the production machine? Also, I have been told that it is possible to use a database on another machine as the data store for authentication. Does anyone know how to do that? This would make the first question moot. Thanks in advance!
We have a database in SQL Server 2008 R2 with mirroring and want that replication is done by dedicated network. We stop the endpoint and when we try to run the following command, syntax error occurred:
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1 Incorrect syntax near '192.168.1.14'.
What is the correct syntax of the command line below?
ALTER ENDPOINT Endpoint_Mirroring AS TCP (LISTENER_IP = '192.168.1.14')
In a stored procedure I have, I need to make a call out to a DR server, I believe the named pipes protocol is causing errors for long running sql. Is there anyway I can change the call
exec svr_dr.msdb.go
to ensure that it uses the tcp protocol rather than named pipes?
Has anyone ever seen TCP/IP become a disabled protocol without manual intervention from a user?
My websites just stopped talking to my MSSQL db and when I went into sql client config utility on the web boxes, tcp/ip was disabled. Any clues? Can't find anything to support this in the event or web logs.
If using sql server authentication between two SQL Server instances (firewalled and on different networks),how are the connection details transported, specifically, is the IP addess, username and password sent in clear or is their some internal obsfuscation/de-obsfuscation mechanism native to SQL Server in operation under the covers?
I am connection to a SQL server that has force protocol encryption checked. From my ASP.net application, specifically in my connection string, what parameter do I need to use to take advantage of this encryption?
I dont know if this is the right place to put in this question.
The problem is
I have an application developed using VB 6.0 and SQl Server 2000. It was working fine on my machine. I had MS XP installed on my system alongwith SP1. But when i installed MS XP SP2, i got the error while saving the record. the error is "Protocol Error in TDS Stream". I went to microsoft site searcing for the resolution of this error. They gave the solution of installing MDAC 2.8 SP1. But when i install MDAC 2.8, it gives me this error "MDAC 2.8 RTM is incompatible with this version of Windows. All of its features are currently part of Windows." And since MDAC 2.8 is not installed so i can not install MDAC 2.8 SP1 also.
I have MDAC 2.5 installed on the system.
How can i resolve it. Please give a solution as soon as possible. I am in great need of it.
I am using SQL Server 6.5. By default TCP/IP protocol is not enabled (1433 port is not opened by the server). How can I enable this so that I can use a JDBC driver to connect to it.
In SQL Server 2000, the "SQL Server Network Utility" helps us to enable the TCP/IP protocol. But not able to figure our how/where this can be done in 6.5.
Can anyone point to a reference which documents the pros and cons of the various connection protocols, such as Shared Memory vs. TCP/IP? I thought I saw something indicating that shared memory is fastest, which would explain why this protocol is tried first, but now I can't find it. This resource has information on creating connection strings, but not the advantages and disadvantages.
I cannot connect to a SQL Server that is in domain "x" from my client which is in domain "y" using Multi-Protocol. There is no trust between domains x and y. The SQL Server has Multi-Protocol installed and is working correctly ie. I can connect to it from other clients in the same domin via Multi-Protocol.
I have tried multiple things to make this work. Adding the SQL Server to my LMHOST file. Adding advanced settings for the SQL Server in my "SQL Client Configuration Utility".......All with no avail. I have received different error messages which I have found little about. "ConnectionOpen (RPC open())", "OS ERROR 1703", "OS ERROR 11".......
Has anyone had similar problems? If so, is there a fix or something that I could be missing?
Our client is trying to access the report builder from there machine via a proxy and it does not work, What would be all the ports and protocol (http, https, ftp) needed to be open for the report builder application to work normally behind a proxy? or does anyone know what are the ports and protocol used by report builder ? because we need to provide this information to our client so they can access our report server.
I have a 2 node SQL Server 2005 cluster with 2 named instances. Both appear to be working properly with no issues but I have the following warning message in the event viewer and I would like to know if it is something I should be worried about.
Source: SQL Browser Type: Warning Category: None User: N/A Description: The configuration of the AdminConnectionTCP protocol in the SQL instance XX is not valid.
The servers in the cluster are running with Windows Server 2003 X64 Enterprise Edition, SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition SP2 X64.
I have failed the cluster over and I continue to get the message when I start the instances in the cluster admin, but I don't appear to have any other symptons. Client machines can connect without any problem and transactional replication works no matter what node I bring the instance up on.
I changed default TCP/IP port and disable/enable Named pipes, but no luck so far. I see lots of postings about this message but it seems to be related to SQLExpress and I am not using that here.
We have a "main" SQL 2014 server who imports XML files using SSIS in a datacenter. In remote sites (which are warehouses), there is an instance of SQL 2014 Express. A merge replication is setup, as every operations done on each site must be "forwared" to the main database, as some XML files are generated as output for an ERP system.
Now, the merge replication replicate all the data to the server on each sites. But a specific site don't need the data of every other sites, only the data relevant to itself (which is the warehouse code). Is there a way to replicate only the data relevant to each individual sites to the subscribers? Or is there a better way than replication to accomplish this?
I want to ship 500,000 aged transactions each night to an archive table and delete them from their source table in one or more logical units of work (LUW). Each row is approx 60 bytes and there is only one non clustered index on the source table presently.
I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of 3 alternatives. One of them would basically insert the non-aged rows into tempdb, ship the aged records, truncate the table and then insert the tempdb records back into their source all in the same LUW.
For this alternative, I'd at least like to turn off logging when the records get inserted into tempdb as I dont see any value in logging that part of the activity. Is this possible?
Could you guys please help me with printing reports invoked thru command line/ URL access to print automatically to specific printers and specific trays and also is it possible to set the specific printer and tray as parameters.
We have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server serving a site through IIS. It connects to a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server running SQL 2000 SP3a.
This site receives the following error as seen in the topic: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.
We've configured the server network utility to only allow TCP/IP connections. The connection string for the site is as follows:
Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.
The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.
Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.
Hi While running a DTS, many times the error message: "[DBNETLIB][ConnetionWrite (WrapperWrite()).]General network error. Check your network documentation." appears. Does somebody knows why?
I am running the DTS from a computer (not the server where the DTS is stored) and it is connected without any problem when this happens.
I am loading data from one server to another server using SSIS,After loading some rows i am getting the below mentioned Error. Each time i run i am getting the error in different Dataflow tasks in the package.

The PrimeOutput method on OLE DB Source returned error code 0xC0202009. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.".IS this SSIS package Error or Network related?
I have a green light on my Report Services Confuration, and can configure the server within sharepoint integrated mode. I have also assign the appropriate permission for aspnet etc..etc.
From within Business Intelligent studio when I tried to publish my reports I get the below error:
The server commited a protocol violation
Here is a copy of the report server services log file.

I am getting the following warning in the Application Event Log:
The configuration of the AdminConnectionTCP protocol in the SQL instance SQLEXPRESS is not valid.
The warning is logged by the SQLBrowser service.
This is happening on Windows 2003 server with SQL Server Express 2005. On the same machine SQL Server 2000 is installed.
I am currently unable to connect from remote clients to the instance of SQL Express and I believe it has to do with this warning (I've tried all the usual remote connection troubleshooting without success - enabled protocols, SQL Browser Service running, there is no firewall on the server, I disabled firewall on the client when trying to connect).
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
If you need additional information please let me know.
I don't know whether anyone has this problem, but I am definitely not using the right keywords to search for a thread.
My situation is this...
I have a dataset that has values to fill cells to multiple tables in a report. However, I only want to select specific data from the dataset to fill textboxes and others. I cannot change the stored procedure, but the sample of the data is shown below:-
I know it looks weird, but the row really represents which "row" or textbox is it to fill with the Val. The Stat Column is just a way to make sure that I am filling the right values.
so my new report would have multiple tables to denote different categories. In my first table, I tried putting the cells as follows:- (expressions are highlighted in italics and bold)
I tried putting it into the headerrows instead of DetailRows, and it ended up printing the last value. Is there anyway to do this ? print all the values out in one table ? I tried using textboxes, but I think I got my expression wrong.
and it give me an error The value expression for the textbox €˜textbox5€™ contains an error: [BC30455] Argument not specified for parameter 'FalsePart' of 'Public Function IIf(Expression As Boolean, TruePart As Object, FalsePart As Object) As Object'.
Appreciate any advice or suggestion for this scenario !
My application is running fine, as i can login to it and also able to view pages. But when i open Order management(having 3K records) its give me error,
General Network Error. Check your network documentation
I have also searched many articles and tried following solutions but nothing working
- connectiontimeout = 0, max pool size = 7500/100, pooling = false
- SSL disabling enforce security false as mentioned in microsoft kb article.
And there's nothing any issue with hardware/firewall as my application's login and other forms are working fine(which use same database with same connection string)
