Disappearing Data Elements In The Header

Apr 4, 2007

I have created a number of reports where I need to display database elements in the Header record. I have been using the reportitems feature to get them to display there. When I preview the report the header looks fine; however, when the report is exported to pdf or printed out the header information completly disappears.

Any suggestions would be great.

Disappearing Data

Dec 18, 2006

I am not sure where to put this but correct me if i'm in the wrong forum.

I've been working on this database for some time now. It's an Access 2003 database with a SQL backend. Everything was going well until one of the users noticed her data was disappearing after she send an email. The database has a memo field that gets pasted in the body of an email when it is created. Sometimes, when the user sends an email and goes back into the record, the memo field is blank. I know the field has data in it at the time of the email because it will give you an error if the field is null and you won't be able to send it. And, it goes into a history table with everything the user does with each record. I've checked this history table and it shows that all records in question, an email was sent. I have no idea why the data would disappear in this field. It does not happen all the time. I've performed the same steps and I can't duplicate the problem. There's no code associated with the memo field that deletes it after sending the email. Can anyone think of anything that would cause this?

SSIS - Handling Recursive XML Elements In Data Flow Task

May 22, 2008

Hi All,
I have a requirement here to import data from XML file to SQL Database. The XML schema contains of various elements and one of the element is recursive ie. Parameter node contains parameter node within it and it can have n number of iterations. I have given the sample schema below:

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Parameter">

<xs:complexType>

<xs: sequence>

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="ID" type="xs: string" />

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Description" type="xs: string" />

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Type" type="xs: string" />

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Parameter">
<xs:complexType>

<xs: sequence>

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="ID" type="xs: string" />

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Description" type="xs: string" />

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Type" type="xs: string" />

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Parameter">
<xs:complexType>

<xs: sequence>

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="ID" type="xs: string" />

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Description" type="xs: string" />

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Type" type="xs: string" />

</xs: sequence>

</xs:complexType>

</xs:element>

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Parameter">
...............

</xs: sequence>

</xs:complexType>

</xs:element>

</xs: sequence>

</xs:complexType>

</xs:element>

But all the nodes contain the data which has to be imported to a single table dbo.Parameters. I cannot use Union ALL since i dont know how many iterations I will have in the file. Is there any way to do this operation in Data Flow Task using XML Source? Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks,
Dhileep

Transact SQL :: FOR XML To Write Data With Carriage Return / Line Feed At End Of Elements?

Sep 30, 2015

I am trying to use FOR XML under SQL Server 2014 to write out a large XML data set. I want it to look like

<CVS_Member_Add_Change>
    <RecordType>3</RecordType>
    <Carrier>1266</Carrier>
    <MultiBirthCode>0000000</MultiBirthCode>
    <MemberType></MemberType>

[Code] ....

That's how it looks when you click on the results of a small subset of the query.  Just what I want.  Unfortunately when you try to right click and save it you get

<dataroot><CVS_Member_Add_Change><RecordType>3</RecordType><Carrier>1266</Carrier<MultiBirthCode>0000000</MultiBirthCode><MemberType></MemberType<LanguageCode>1</LanguageCode><DURFlag></DURFlag><DURKey></DURKey><SocialSecurityNumber>000000000</SocialSecurityNumber</CVS_Member_Add_Change>

Everything being on one line blows up the translator application that reads the data.

The FOR XML statement copied out of the query is below.

FOR XML RAW ('CVS_Member_Add_Change'), ROOT('dataroot'), ELEMENTS
GO

Is there a way in the T-SQL to force it to break lines neatly?

Is there a way to force it to a specific file name or directory?

SSRS 2005: Report Header Does Not Export To Excel As Page Header

Mar 13, 2008

I need some help. I am writing a report in SSRS 2005 that I then need to export to Excel. When I put a report header I would expect the header to not display in the Excel spreadsheet until the Print Preview or the Print. The report footer works just fine I put some text in the footer, and it shows up in the footer. The header though, shows up as a row in the Excel spreadsheet that then causes columns to merge. How do I get the report header to act like a page header?

Page Header And Table Header Display But Groups And Rows Do Not

Nov 6, 2007

I have a report that I created and the report was working until I added some fields to a group footer row in a table.

My table has 5 group levels. I had information displaying in the 5th level header group and detail. It was working fine. Then I added some fields to the 4th level group footer. Now it displays only the Page header, Table header, and the 4th level group footer data.

What happened to the rest of the data?

All the cells and rows I want to display have the Visibility Hidden set to false. I tried removing the objects I added (to the 4th level group footer) and it still does not work. Is this a bug or did I set something that is hiding the data.

Thanks,

Fred

Get Header Data Of Flat File

Jul 4, 2007

hi everyone!

i am currently creating a package which involves getting data from CSV files. i can successfully get the data from the files, my problem is, i need to get data from the header of the CSV files. i am currently skipping the header rows. the format of the CSV files is as follows:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date, 20070704
Store Code, storeCode1

data row.....
data row.....
data row.....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

technically, i also need the date from the header row, but since it is also indicated in the data rows, i have no problem with that. what i need is the Store Code, which is not indicated on the data rows. i need to store the data in a database in the following format:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
StoreCode Date column1 column2 column3 ......
storeCode1 20070704 ...
storeCode2 20070704 ...
storeCode3 20070704 ...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

any idea how SSIS can handle this? thanks a lot!

Extra Line Between Header And Data In Query?

Mar 24, 2015

I need to have an automated process to generate and send out csv data on a set schedule. Using the sp_send_dbmail routine is working great except for one small problem I am having trouble getting around.

I am specifying a query to be run and including the results as a file attachment. The customer wants a csv file with column names.

The attachment always includes a 'separator line' of dashes between the column header and the actual data. Is there any way to eliminate this line of dashes? When I use @query_result_header = 0 flag, it removes the line of dashes, but the column names are also removed as well.

I want to keep the column names, but just remove the line of dashes.

Different Format In Flat File For Header And Data

Apr 12, 2007

Hello all,

Is it possible to have two different formats for the header and the data in a flat file connection?

An example text file would look like this:

Col1,Col2,Col3

abcdefghi12345testtesttesttest

abcdeeeee12333setsetsetsetsets

where the header is delimited and the data is ragged right.

It looks like you should be able to accomplish this from the Flat File Connection Manager Editor interface, but perhaps having different delimiter dropdown boxes for the header and columns can only be used if you are using the Delimited format?

Thanks for any info you can provide!

Missing Data In Page Header When Exporting To Excel

Mar 12, 2008

Hello all,

I have a report that I need to reference data in my Page Header. I am referencing 2 data fields in my report body to do this. The report will render fine and the data is present in my Pager Header; however, when I export to Excel, the data is missing; only my labels are present. What's even stranger is that it works just fine if I export to a PDF file.

Below is the expression code from one of the fields in my Page Header :

="From: " & ReportItems!dtBegDate.Value

Again, the report will render fine and my data is present. It only comes up blank when I export to Excel. The only part of the data that makes it over is the text (i.e. "From:")

I'm at a loss on this. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Karl

SQL Commands Disappearing!?!?!?!

Nov 7, 2001

I am experiencing a situation where I issue a lengthy SQL command to MS SQL Server 7.0 through MTS and it "disappears" - no errors or recordsets are returned. The command is "SELECT * FROM CUSTOMERS WHERE LASTNAME LIKE 'SMITH%'". When I issue this command from SQL Query Analyzer it takes 27 seconds to return 87 rows. When I issue this exact same command through MTS it does not return at all.

I've used the SQL Profiler to analyze the requests. It shows the commands from MTS starting but they never stop (or at least the profiler never reports them as stopping). The same commands coming from Query Analyzer are reported as starting and stopping without fail.

Here's a twist: I can issue less demanding commands (ie, one that doesn't take so long to process) through MTS and they come back fine. For example, when a user logs into my application, I use an SQL statement to verify the user name and password and status the user as logged in. This is routed through MTS and it comes back fine in less than a second. Same application, same PC, same MTS and SQL server, same SQL database. The only difference is that the CUSTOMERS table has over 800,000 records and the USERS table has only 5 records.

PLEASE HELP!

Databases Disappearing!!

Jun 16, 2004

Ok, I'm new here and I REALLY need some help here.

In my organisation, we have a Server with MSSQL 7 running with some databases. Some of the databases are published for replication.

Now, since Monday, we've been losing databases that are in use! :confused:

The files are disappearing and being marked as suspect in SQL. The physical file has been deleted from the machine even when SQL is running and on some databases are replicating. In one instance, we were making permission changes on a user and it just said that the file is no longer there. And when we checked, the msdb system database had disappeared as well. So now the server is showing up as having no databases. We were able to recover some of them through backups and a handy recovery tool. But now we are helpless as to WHY this is happening. We suspect Virus but we have Norton CorporateEdition running and Liveupdate updating every day.

I've searched the web for any one that had the same problem, but nothing came up. Only some stuff saying that space was an issue, but not on a drive with 21GB remaining and the biggest database is 3GB...

Any help, insight or resolution will be greatly appreciated.

Disappearing Records

Jan 17, 2007

I am running an Access 2000 MDB against a SQL 7 back end, using ODBC linkedtables over a LAN and a WAN. The system has been operational for years withrelatively few problems.Recently, WAN users have been reporting several hundred records disappearingat a time. The records are all sequential, and they're in a table thatcontains about 60,000 records. This all started last week at about the sametime (not sure if before or after) that the WAN went down for a couple ofhours for an unknown reason. Since then, every once in a while, a WAN userwill report that several hundred records in a block are just "missing."Then, an hour or two later, they reappear.Any ideas as to what's going on or what can be done to rectify this?Thanks!Neil

Combine Data And Split Into Separate Txt Files For Each Header/detail Row Groupings

Mar 16, 2006

I€™ve created with the help of some great people an SSIS 2005 package which does the follow so far:

1)       Takes an incoming txt file.  Example txt file: http://www.webfound.net/split.txt

The txt file going from top to bottom is sort of grouped like this
     Header Row (designated by €˜HD€™)
          Corresponding Detail Rows for the Header Row
           €¦..
     Next Header Row
          Corresponding Detail Rows

     €¦and so on

       http://www.webfound.net/rows.jpg

2)       Header Rows are split into one table, Maintenance Detail Rows into another, and Payment Detail Rows into a third table.  A uniqueID has been created for each header and it€™s related detail rows to form a PK/FK relationship as there was non prior to the import, only the relation was in order of header / related rows below it when we first started.  The reason I split this out is so I can massage it later with stored proc filters, whatever€¦

Now I€™m trying to somehow bring back the data in those table together like it was initially using a query so that I can cut out each of the Header / Detail Row sections into their own txt file.  So, if you look at the original txt file, each new header and it€™s related detail rows (example of a cut piece would be http://www.webfound.net/rows.jpg) need to be cut out and put into their own separate txt file.

This is where I€™m stuck.  How to create a query to combine it all back into an OLE DB Souce component, then somehow read that souce and split out the sections into their own individual txt files.

The filenames of the txt files will vary and be based on one of the column values already in the header table.

Here is a print screen of my package so far:

http://www.webfound.net/tasks.jpg

http://www.webfound.net/Import_MaintenanceFile_Task_components.jpg

http://www.webfound.net/DataFlow_Task_components.jpg

Let me know if you need more info.  Examples of the actual data in the tables are here:

http://www.webfound.net/mnt_headerRows.txt
http://www.webfound.net/mnt_MaintenanceRows.txt
http://www.webfound.net/mnt_PaymentRows.txt

Here's a print screen of the table schema:

Data Fields In Page Header - An Answer That Works ALL The Time (Not Resolved)

Jan 11, 2008

Hi

I need data fields in the page header. The report is multiple pages. I have multiple fields I need in the page header. These fields will change on each page.

I've tried everything I can find suggested on this forum. They all either don't work or work for a while. Then, as is the case today, we get a problem with a report that renders perfectly in the RS browser but when it's output to a PDF, a couple of the page headers become confused.

Why can't Microsoft provide a hack that actually works somewhere (Maybe I just can't find it)? A sticky at the top of the forum?

I'm currently using the answer supplied by NB at AeM here http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showpost.aspx?postid=638813&siteid=1&sb=0&d=1&at=7&ft=11&tf=0&pageid=1 As I said it works very nicely, thanks , except for when it doesn't export properly to a PDF which is an MS issue I presume not the solutions issue.

I really need to be able to make this work before I start throwing my toys from my pram and so my boss doesn't think I'm a complete idiot. I'm sure he doesn't believe me when I say I can't put data in a report header, after all it's only the most basic of reporting functions.

Can anyone please help with a 100% solution?

Cheers

URGENT! Rows Disappearing

Jul 4, 2006

Hello together,

strange things going on:

1. The table statistic shows for example 67 rows in a table, select count(*) only returns 63 rows.
2. Table statistic shows 50 rows, select count(*) returns 55 rows.

In both cases if you do an insert the newly inserted row sometimes can be retrieved by a select statement sometimes not. Row statistics sometimes is updated correctly, sometimes not.

Integrity check for these databases says everything is fine. DBCC CHECKDB, DBREINDEX, UPDATESTATISTICS, ... does not help or says everything is fine.

Already opened a case at HP's Microsoft support and they involved Microsoft itself but all are a little bit clueless at the moment.

As this is our main DB cluster and several databases are affected we had to stop most of our applications since last Thursday and now we are getting a little bit in trouble so any hint is very welcome.

Thanks in advance

PS: Restore is not an option - as all tools say everything is fine all of our backups from the last months include the error. Don't ask why nobody recognized the lost data earlier, seems they were stored but not required for some time.
