Disk Dump To Another Machine
May 12, 2000
We are trying to set up a disk dump to another machine (our backup SQL machine). I mapped a drive to the other machine
but it only sees the local drives when I try to create the dump device. I typed in the path, but I
get error messages stating that it can't open the file when I try to do a dump. From what I have read, I thought I could
do a disk backup to another machine. Am I trying to do something impossible? Any help would
be appreciated. Thanks.

If I return the Average, Minimum, and Maximum values for the counter Physical Disk: Avg. Disk Queue Length, and those values are 10, 0, 87 respectively, which value do I use to compute the Avg. Disk Queue Length for a 4 disk array(RAID 10): Average, Minimum, or Maximum? The disk(lun) is on a SAN.

Hello,
I am trying to setup a test cluster and am having an issue. When I try to create the resource of a physical disk it takes both the drive e: and drive q: and doesn't seperate them into two physical disks as resources. This means when I try to associate the quorum disk it links the to physcial disk resource of drive e and q. Then when I try to install SQL2k5 I get the warning about installing SQL on the quorum disk. Am I missing something? Is there a way to seperate e and q onto two physical disk resources so I can specifically associate the quorum to q and the sql to e or should I be setting the quorum disk to a majority node set? Thanks in advance.

Hello,
this is my configuration :
1) 3 disks in RAID5 that hold the SQL data
2) 1 disk in RAID0 that holds the only paging file.
What will happen to the SQL data (DB) when the disk that holds the paging file crashes?
Kindest regards,
Luc.

Hi all,
Ok here goes,
I have a three tier system using SQL server 2000, we are currently experiencing IO bottle necks on our SCSI Raid 10 array, which holds the Data and the logs in separate partitions.
So my options as I understand it are:
Get Enterprise edition
or
Get another physical raid 10 array and separate the logs and data i.e. data on one array and logs on the other array.
I would like to try the latter but I am totally unsure how much difference this will make or whether it will make any difference at all.
Does anyone know how much performance increase I will get from using two arrays as opposed to one?
Any other advice on this scenario would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Help!
I am using Script Transformation to output a new column as image[DT_IMAGE]
field to store serialized object. In the VB script, the sample code as
Row.serializedobject.AddBlobData ( binaryArrayReturnedFromC#dll )
The package always runs fine on my developing machine and will halt on other
machine at AddBlobData after certain number row records were processed. I am
stuck here. Anyone has any suggestion?
What I need is reading data from mutiple tables in one database and writing
into a single table in another datable. In order preserve all the columns
data, I use input column fields to construct a new object and then serialize
it, and store the serialize data into detination db table. (The object and
serialization function is coming from c# dll.)
Dim b As BusinessLicense = New BusinessLicense()
b.ApprovalDate = Row.approvaldate
b.BusinessId = Row.busid
b.BusinessName = Row.busname
b.NaicsCode = Row.naicscode
b.NaicsDescription = Row.naicsdescr
b.OwnerName = Row.ownername
b.Phone = Row.phone
b.Pkey = Row.pkey
b.RenewalDate = Row.renewaldate
b.StartDate = Row.startdate
b.Suite = Row.suite
Row.serializedobject.AddBlobData(Serializer.Serialize(b)) '''----This is blocking line
Row.infoType = BusinessLicense.TYPE
Both machine is xp with sp2. and standard SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06
Thanks!

Hi to everyone,
I'm facing a problem that drives me crazy. I've a web application that has the following problem. When I test the application on my developement machine all runs fine, but when I put into production server there is a problem in connection pooling. Look at the following image, the blue line is the number of connection in the pool and the violet line is the number of connection reclaimed. From the image it is clear that connection are returned on the pool only in block, maybe when the garbage collection pass and reclaim the object. The strange thing is that on my developement machine all is good, and also I'm using Enterprise Library and the connection are managed internally.- Thanks to everyone for any help.

Hullo all
I have two machines,
One is a standalone machine and the other is on a domain network. How can I run a stored procedure/job on the standalone machine from the domain machine ?
running the procedure as a Domain user results in a failed job/stored proc.
also creating an sql login and attempting to run it as that user also fails. How can I solve this problem ?
please e-mail me at wayde@sunnygrp.com if you have any thoughts...

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there was any white papers on the migration part from microsoft?
Apparently the situation is like this
Currently installed MOSS 2007 in a testing pc as application server. This application server will refer another testing database server which running SQL Server 2005.
Now, wanted to move this 2 temporary server into another 2 new servers.
Correct me if I'm wrong, it cannot be done by using image like Norton Ghost due to difference hardware spec.
So, if I install another fresh copy of MOSS2007 & SQL server 2005 in that 2 new servers, how can I migrate the contents, documents, etc from the testing database server?
It would be great if someone can show me the links to kb article. Thanks

I am trying to dump my mssql DB so I can upload it to my web server.
I am using SQLDump v3.0b1 from sourceforge.net.
My problem is, when generating the dump file, any value greater than 1000 in a money column is set to 1.0000 in the dump file.
Does anyone know of a better program I should be using or a way for me to correct this?
My DB is huge and it would take far too much time to go through the dump file and correct the changed values.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanx

Hi all,
When I use "DUMP DATABASE", it will help me to backup both database and
transaction log. However, it will not help me to clean up the transaction log.
Therefore, I am worry that will the following happen?
1. DUMP DATABASE
Start backup database
( there are transactions during the backup process )
Finish backup database
Start backup transaction
Finish backup transaction
2. DUMP TRANSACTION
Start backup transaction and clean up the transaction log
So, will the transactions been backuped twice? If yes, will it cause those
transaction do twice when I restore the database then restore the transaction?
Thanks

After Dumping a database device, I still find the xxx.DAT files inthe /Data directory. Can these be 'safely' removed/backed up ?
They are taking up WAY too much space.
Question 2: After installation and after creating devices & databases, is there any way to reassign the /Data directory on another drive?
Either for future devices/databases or existing?
Thank you much,

I understand from the beta sql 7 newsgroups that 7 can't restore a 6.5 dump. This is extremely frustrating that MS wouldn't put this type of backword compatibility into 7.
Has anyone found another way to accomplish this? I can't use transfer manager as the 2 servers are on seperate, non-connected boxes. I ftp'd the dump from 6.5 server to a middle-man machine, then copied it to the 7.0 server.
Am I looking at bcp'ing out all 203 tables in my 1GB db then bcp'ing them back in?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Andre

Is there a way to dump sql in Access like in Transact SQL or mysqldump?
I've gotta convert an Access Database into a MySQL database, it is a small database, but I'd not want to put it in by hand .
If not, I'll just make a PHP script to rip it from a textfile.

I am trying to import a database from a dump file.
The dump file is from a sql server db.
I have created the db on another server and want to import the data from the
dump file.
I use the bcp like this :
bcp nnfdb.sa.users in x -Usa -P
nnfdb is the name of the database
users is the name of a table
x is the name of the dump file.
But I get this error :
SQLState = S0002, NativeError = 208
Error = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name
'nnfdb.sa.users'.
also I am sure if I have to run the bcp for each table or if I can import
all tables in one bcp run.
