I have written an application in VB through which I can convert DBASE
IV database to MS SQL Server database. Also, the application provides
database manipulation features to the user like addition, deletion etc
of records.
I am using OPENROWSET for conversion purposes. Also the server is MS
SQL Server 2000.
Now this application workks fine when I have installed the instance of
MS SQL Server on my local machine. It converts the database and stores
it on the server perfectly and there are no isues.
However, when I try to use the application to connect with MS SQL
Server on another machine, there are a few problems. I connect to the
other MS SQL Server on other machine through named pipes. My
application successfully accesses the database and allows user to
modify it according to his needs.
For this I created the user account of that user on the machine.
But when I try to convert the database, I get the following error
message:

Here is the line in VB code which is causing all the trouble:

I gave the user full rights but i am still getting this error message.
Now, what am I doing wrong here?
I am actually following exactly the example given in Karl Moore€™s €˜The Ultimate VB.net and ASP.net Code Book€™, ISBN 1-59059-106-2, Chapter 4, pp 141€¦
I am using VB.Net 2002 and create a Web Form, placing on it a Data Adapter, Connector and Dataset and link this to a Data Grid. The database is a quite large (150 Mb) Access 97 db that is shared over a network and the Provider is a Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 connection. While in designer mode I can create the Dataset and even preview the data itself from the menu. When I run the project, the Web Form displays, connects to the Site (via IIS 5.1) but then the following error text is thrown all over the form:

I have read and implemented the articles in the KB about setting up System TEMP variables and changing their rights and also setting up the ODBC key in the registry but these make no difference however I change them. I have also tried copying the database to the local machine, again to no avail.

I have no idea why what should be a very simple thing just fails so catastrophically. I am tempted to move to VB 2005 but if anyone can shed light on the problem I should be most grateful.

We have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server serving a site through IIS. It connects to a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server running SQL 2000 SP3a.

We've configured the server network utility to only allow TCP/IP connections. The connection string for the site is as follows:
Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.
The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.
Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.
Hi While running a DTS, many times the error message: "[DBNETLIB][ConnetionWrite (WrapperWrite()).]General network error. Check your network documentation." appears. Does somebody knows why?
I am running the DTS from a computer (not the server where the DTS is stored) and it is connected without any problem when this happens.

I am trying to setup a test cluster and am having an issue. When I try to create the resource of a physical disk it takes both the drive e: and drive q: and doesn't seperate them into two physical disks as resources. This means when I try to associate the quorum disk it links the to physcial disk resource of drive e and q. Then when I try to install SQL2k5 I get the warning about installing SQL on the quorum disk. Am I missing something? Is there a way to seperate e and q onto two physical disk resources so I can specifically associate the quorum to q and the sql to e or should I be setting the quorum disk to a majority node set? I have 2003 server installed on my machine along with MS SQL Server Management Studio and I am able to connect fine to SQL 2000 Instances. On my laptop running Vista Enterprise, I can not connect to these exact same instances via MS SQL Server Management Studio as I am getting the above error. Does anyone else have this problem? First-time poster (and very new to ASP.NET, so please be patient) - I am using VS 2005. I have an ASP.Net 2.0 app that is using Forms Authentication and a Login server control with AspNetSqlMembershipProvider. I have an instance of ASPNETDB.MDF in the App_Data directory on my local machine and all works well (or at least as expected). I used the Copy Web Site function to port the app (including the ASPNETDB.MDF files) to my production platform, where I encounter the error mentioned in the subject line. I have found posts (both here and other forums) that mention enabling TCP/IP using Surface Area Configuartion Utility, SQL Server Browser are exempt from firewall, and a few other things. My production machine does not have SQL SVR 2005 installed nor SQL SVR Express. Do I have to install SQL Server Express onto my production platform in order to resolve this, or is there another means (something in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio on my local machine) that will enable me to do this on the production machine?Also, I have been told that it is possible to use a database on another machine as the data store for authentication. Does anyone know how to do that? This would make the first question moot.Thanks in advance!

Ok can somebody please explain to me why only 1/2 my project is getting this error. I am working with SQLExpress on a remote windows 2003 box. The sql server has its service running and the browser is also running. The server has been set to allow remote connections and to accept TCP/IP and Named Pipes. Now, the website uses asp.net membership and roles to allow the users to login, which actually works. So I know that there are no errors in that connection string. However, all the data acess code is compliled as a sepeate class library thats referenced in the bin directory. When calling those methods to beind to a control in code, is where i run into this error. The class library connection string in the app.config file is exactly the same as the connection string in the web.config...i have checked permissions as well, im at a loss to the reason why this is not working....its probably something simple, but im not finding it.
On a seperate note - How do i get the remote database to show up in the server explorer on vs2008, i have tried putting in the ip addressinstance name, and a combo of there items, it will not connect. I have a feeling the two issues are connected. Also fyi, on the remote box, I am able to login with the sql studio express, so im not really sure exactly wuts gong on. Hello, I have deployed myWebApp on the IIS. All went well now, but the site does not have any connection with the database. I've already done a search on the error 26, which gave me alot of hints about solving the problem.Still I'm gettting this error. I already enabled the remote connections through the sql surface area configuration.Could it have something to do with the fact that I use LINQ? I made a simple ASP.NET 2.0 Website that uses memberships, roles, and access to MS SQL Server 2005 database. Everything works fine on my development computer (WinXP Pro). When I deployed this Website on another computer (WinXP Pro) and tried to access the main page from the same computer, I get the error below. Same files are workign fine in my office with SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition and ASp.net 2.0. on Windows server 2003. I do not get this error. But at home I am facing this problem again and again.
This problem happens on this particular machine and doesn't happen on other machines that I have. And I think this problem belongs to this forum. Because the problem is triggered by a special setting in the connection string. I followed the steps of threads including Xinwei Hong's instruction for fixing this error(26) but has no luck.

Whenever I change Asynchronous Processing=true into Asynchronous Processing=false, the problem is gone.
This problem also occurs when I use Visual Studio - Server Explorer - Add Connection dialog - Advanced button - Advanced Properties window where you can set Asynchronous Processing property to true.
I'm having an issue when moving my site from my laptop that's running VWD Express and SQL 2005 Express to my production Windows 2003 server running SQL 2005 Standard. The site is a portal site that authenticates to my Active Directory, and uses roles bases in SQL. I can open the site on the laptop and everything works fine and I have no problems. Once I copy the site to the production server and try to access the site, I get the login page fine and try to login. The default page never opens so I'm thinking this must be some type of roles issue. Do I need to do anything with my ASPNETDB.MDF file to make it work with SQL 2005 Standard instead of Express version? I've already made sure that the SQL server is accepting remote connections...what other things do I need to do to my SQL server to ensure proper functioning? Report has been running fine up until now. No changes that I'm aware of. Report runs fine on my laptop connecting to the server.
Update: This is happening with other reports as well. (i.e. Performance Dashboard)
I'am running SQL Server 2005 Express Advanced Services on a Windows 2003 Server in a hosted Environment. Some times SQL Server is beginning writing entries into C:ProgrammeMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLLOGERRORLOG until the disk is full.. After that, I have to delete the error log file (some GB of size), restart the server and everything is running fine until the log file runs amok again.
I have installed SQL Server Management Studio.
With SQL server 2005 Standard I can configure or disable Error logging in the Management Studio. But with the Express Edition it seems that is not possible.
What I want to do is (maybe with system stored procedures)
limit number of error log files by cycling it, e.g. 5 files and delete the old ones limit the size of one log file. e.g. 100 MB
Is there an option to configure this in the Express edition of SQL Server 2005?
