I have a report that is grouped based on a field. There is no way to pre-determine the number of detail lines each group will have. Is there a way to set the print condition such that if any group details do not fit onto one page then the whole group should be printed on the next page. Something like this:
If ALL Group2 details do not fit onto the same page print it on a new page. (I don't want each group on a separate page, I just want the group detail to start on a new page IF THEY DO NOT ALL fit on one page)
Can anyone tell me is it possible to put static data (a string) inside details section of a table? I've tried to find some more pieces of information in the Report Definition Language Specification, but to no avail.
When I put some strings as a detail's cells values they are displayed in the preview window in VS. But thay are invisible when I open my report using ReportViewer in my app. So does it means that the only accepted value of a cell within the details section of a table is a name of the field from DataSet (something like =Fields!FieldName.Value) ?
I'm using VS 2005 to build a SQL Server reporting Services report. The wizard works great and prompts me to build my results query and then select fields to group the report by.

Here's the problem. I also want to show my order lines as there is another linked table connected to my order table which holds all order line items. Classic order - line example.
How can I modify the details section to show my line items, as well as not show empty rows when no line items exist?

I have an SSRS 2012 table report with groups; each group is broken ie. one group for one page, and there are multiple groups in multiple pages.
'GroupName' column has multiple values - X,Y,Z,......
I need to group 'GroupName' with X,Y,Z,..... ie value X in page 1,value Y in page 2, value Z in page 3...
Now, I need to display another column (ABC) in this table report (outside the group column 'GroupName'); this outside column itself is another column header (not a group header) in the table (report) and it derives its name partly from the 'GroupName' values:
Example:
Value X for GroupName in page 1 will mean, in page 1, column Name of ABC column must be ABC-X Value Y for GroupName in page 2 will mean, in page 2, column Name of ABC column must be ABC-Y Value Z for GroupName in page 3 will mean, in page 3, column Name of ABC column must be ABC-Z
ie the column name of ABC (Clm ABC) must be dynamic as per the GroupName values (X,Y,Z....)

I have been able to use First(ReportItems!GroupName.Value) in the Page Header to get GroupNames displayed in each page; I get X in page 1, Y in page 2, Z in page 3.....
However, when I use ReportItems (that refers to a group name) in the Report Body outside the group,
I get the following error:
Report item expressions can only refer to other report items within the same grouping scope or a containing grouping scope
I need to get the X, Y, Z ... in each page for the column ABC.
I have been able to use this - First(Fields!GroupName.Value); however, I get ABC-X, ABC-X, ABC-X in each of the pages for the ABC column, instead of ABC-X in page 1, ABC-Y in page 2, ABC-Z in page 3, ...
I have reports in reporting services. I want to add an introductory page to the report that shows a logo, report name , date and a few other details. However, I want to show that page only when user prints the report. Is this possible and if yes how?
If I run the package from Visual Studio, it works; If I deploy it and execute it, it works; If I log in the server an execute it, it works; If I execute it from a Task using the SQL Server Agent it works fine until I have a DataReader Source in the Package!
Is there a way to display messages? To see more details why it is not running?
Hi, I started working with SRS from the past one month. I am breaking my head to do this. My report has a single stored procedure. I made it to work all values of a parameter like exec sp_employee 'All' (Returns data for all employees) exec sp_employee '1111' (Returns data for an employee with id 1111) exec sp_employee '1111,2222' (Returns data for an employee with id 1111 as well as 2222)
This part works perfectly. I could successfully pass the values as mentioned above using a code block.
Now my challenge is how to layout the data on the report.
I need to show the report as follows:
Employeeid Employee Name Address etc....... Skills: Skill# Skill Name 1 11111 2 22222 3 33333 4 44444 Contacts: Contact Type Contact# Main 111-1111 Emergency 222-1111 Eductation: Name University Degree UofU Masters UofU
I tried using group by employeeid. But i can only show one group of data either Skills/Contacts/Education. I do not know if I use sub-report, how to pass the parameter from the main, when I pick multiple values for Employeeid.

I know only enough SQL to be dangerous, but I'm stumped by this general task.
I need to know the method for selecting info from several fields of the records that satisfy a group function criteria on one of the fields. Example: Table contains Employees, products, amounts. If I group on Employee, and product, I can find the total amount of each product's sales for that employee.
create view prod_sales_by_emplyoee select employee product SUM(amount) as empl_prod_total from sales group by employee, product
But if I want to know which product made each employee the most money, I don't know how to do that, because the MAX function works on each field individually, not by row. From the above view, (or a table created from it) I want to know how to identify, for each employee, the product they made the most money selling, and what proportion of their total sales that product accounted for. Then, I'd like to use those results to eliminate the top tier, and find their second place product, etc.
I can do this in Access by sorting the table produced from the above view by empl_prod_total in decending order, joining that to a view that groups by employee only and provides a total, then using a grouped query on the joined data, I can use the "FIRST" function to find the values in each field of the record with the highest sales for that employee. However SQL doesn't have the FIRST function in its aggregate functions.
I suspect there's a standard way SQL does this, but it wasn't in my class. HELP!
How can I take this example Flat file and parse out each section to a new flat file? Each section starts with HD (header row)

Also, I'll need to grab a certain value in each header row (certain position in the 100 byte header row) to use that as part of the filename that's outputed. I assume it would be better to insert these rows into a temp table then somehow do a search on a specific position in the row...but that's impossible? The other route is to insert each row into a temp table separated out by fields but that is going to be too combursome because we have several formats to determine separation of fields based on the row type so I'd have to create many temp tables and many components in SSIS when all we want to do is again:
1) output each group (broken by each header row) into it's own txt file
2) use a field in the header row as part of the name of the output txt file (e.g. look at the first row, whcih is a header row in flat_file_example. txt. I want to grab the text 'AR10' and use that as part of the filename that I create
Any suggestions on how to approach this whole process in SSIS...the simplest approach that will work ?
hi i have a database that has multiple records under the same id (each time a record is updated, it's assigned a date_value), i'm wanting one row to be generated using the data from the most recent date_value field. a sample of the database looks something like this: ID date_value data1 24 march info11 25 march info2 my statement looks like this:select max(date_value), data from table_name where data is not null group by id this seems to bring up the following error for all the fields not in the group by part of the code:Column 'COLUMN_NAME' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause. what am i doing wrong? I've got a report linking to a SSAS cube. It has 2 row groups Region and Country. The Country group is a subset of the Region group and works fine, it collapses and expands ok.
Now, due to a boss who doesn't like the way this looks, I have to find another way to display it. I was wondering if it is possible to have a report parameter that could be selected and the appropriate column grouping be displayed depending on the value.
i.e. User selects Report Parameter value 'Region' and the Region row group becomes visible, the Country group becomes invisible. The exact opposite happening if the user selects Country.
I can't find any obvious way to do this. Any ideas?

The following is a simplified version of my SQL statement. I am attempting to do a simple count(*) with two groupings and a where clause. This is Select command for a GridView. However, I am unable to display zeros. The rows are completely missing and I would greatly appreciate someone's help. I have already tried Group By All, but that, unfortunately, does not work. Here is my SQL statement:

In the report I hide the detail rows. I have a fixed/known number of statuses (in this case 4) and need to show all 4 in the report. eg

(group1)status2 0 $0
(group1) status3 5 $90,000
(detail) .

ie in this case I need to show status 2 (that doesn't exist in the data set) with zero totals.
Does anyone know if this is possible to get SSRS to display each of the status groups (in a known fixed list) and then match them to the records in the dataset.
As an alternative, if I were using SQL Server I could add rows to the dataset using a union statement. Is there similar functionality using mdx? My mdx skills are very basic.

For that i have add one count column in query itself but as we know we can't use field value in header and footer portion and also we can't use global variables in data portion.

We are trying to create a report that will display sales data based on group membership from Active Directory.
For example, if USER1 logs in and looks at a Year to Date Sales report, it will only show data that pertains to his group. If USER2 logs in and accesses the same report, it will display different Year to Date information because he is in a different group.
Background Information: We are running SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2 with Analysis and Reporting Services. We are delivering the reports through a Sharepoint site.
Please let me know if anyone has a good way to tackle this.
Trying to track the users who are logged in and making changes to my database. I have granted permission through the Windows Groups and the log displays the group names and not the user names. Is there something to set to display the user and the group?
I need to keep a section of a report the same size. I have now a table with a detail and group section. The table header must print on every page and the table footer must print on every page. The detail section can only be 16 rows. When I have more than 16 rows the report page breaks perfectly and puts the remaining rows on the next page along with repeating the header and footer. The problem is when there are fewer than 16 rows the table does not take up the full page and looks horrible. All my displayed data is in the data set. I have looked at padding the dataset with bogus rows that would show up at the end and just not display but would rather take care of this on the report end. Any ideas? Thanks, Chad
I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to add text up in the parameter section of a report. I wanted to add something like: "Please use this option when you want a full result set" or something of the sort.
Ok-I'm new at this, but just found out that to get data off a form and insert into SQL I can scrape it off the form and insert it in the <insertParameter> section by using <asp:ControlParameter Name="text2" Type="String" ControlID="TextBox2" PropertyName="Text"> (Thanks CSharpSean) Now I ALSO need to set the user name in the same insert statement. I put in a UserName control that is populated when a signed in user shows up on the page. But in my code I've tried: <asp:ControlParameter Name="UserName" Type="String" ControlID="LoginName1" DefaultValue="Daniel" PropertyName="Text"/> and I get teh errorDataBinding: 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.LoginName' does not contain a property with the name 'Text'. So I take PropertyName="Text" out, and get the error:PropertyName must be set to a valid property name of the control named 'LoginName1' in ControlParameter 'UserName'. what is the proper property value? SO.....BIG question...Is there a clean way to pass UserName to the insert parameters? Or ANY value for that matter? Hi, I am trying to create a XML out of sql 2005 database using FOR XML. I need to create XML for tables which may contain data having non-printable ascii characters (1-32 ascii character). I found FOR XML AUTO failes to genrate this XML, but i can genrate XML using CDATA section in FOR XML EXPLICIT. As following querie works fine for me.
