I have created reports using SSRS 2005 and deployed in ReportServer.
I calling these reports form my web application.Users have different roles based on their login into web application.I need check these user roles and display the reports based on their roles. There could be 10 reports in total, but for this user i should display only 4 out of them. Its pretty urgent. Can somebhelp on this?
I'm using Reporting Services 2000 and I have a situation where I need to specify the file formats available to export. I know I can change the RSReportServer.config file to change these at a global level, but what I really need is to be able to configure these differently for different user groups. For example:
group 1 - has all available export formats available
group 2 - only has the ability to export to excel
group 3 - has no option to export to any format.
Is there a way for this to be done? If so, can anybody give me any pointers on how it can be done?
In the role-based security model that is implemented for Reporting Services, users who are assigned to the Content Manager role can create and edit reports in Report Builder. Local administrators are automatically assigned to this role.
If you want other users to be able to work with a Report Builder report, you must create a role assignment for them that includes the default role "Report Consumer." Alternatively, you can create a custom role definition. As long as the customized role includes the "Consume reports" task, users who are assigned to that role will have sufficient permission to create and modify reports using Report Builder

However, when I try to give a contact those rights, the "Report Builder" link still does not show up for my users. Is there any other place where I can examine the security rights to see why the Report Builder permission is not granted to my users?
I have a web form which has 5 check boxes and i storing the values 1 - 5 for each check box the user clicks . I want to design part of a report in this fashion,
if the user clicks on the first checkBox i want A to appear in the report, and if the user clicks on the second i want B and so forth.
If the user clicks on A& B i want the data to be displayed as A,B. This is my sproc i am using.

I have a report parameter named "Schools" which display a list of schools. For example, Alo elementary school, Balo middle school and Calo high school.
When "Alo elementary" is selected the report only display students from that school along with other assessments data fields. same goes for other schools too. But I want to display different data fields for "Calo high school" when it is selected. It is not currently possilbe becasue I am using the same template for all types of schools. There some fields only should be displayed for "Calo high school" but not for any other type of schools.
I can accomplish this by creating two separate report, one for "Calo high school" and the other for other schools. But I want to accomplish this just by creating one report. So when "Alo elementary school" is selected it displays report with certain fields and when "Calo high school" is selected then it displays same fields as "Alo elementary school" but as well as some other fields too in the report. Is this possible? Need help.
I'm looking for a new way to publish reports based on OLAP data and was very disappointed to find that Reporting Services does not natively support displaying MDX query results in a matrix. While it is possible to assign an MDX query to the matrix control in Reporting Services, the two main problems are that the columns of the query must be measures (not dimensions), and it does not support display of server based formatting (fore color, back color, and font flags).
Does anyone know of any custom control that properly deals with Analysis Services data?
Hi, I am new to SSRS. Is there a way to show part of a report based on User. Say we have a report consisting data for all department. When a department director view it, the report only display data for his/her department. Can this be achieved in SSRS? Thank you in advance for your help.
I am trying to develop a data model that will filter data based on the user logged in. SUSER_SNAME() I have a list of User Id's in a look up table, a where clause in a view that filters the data based on who is logged in. This works fine and the data even seems to be filtered when I explore the data in the Data Source View. How ever when I publish the data model to the reporting services site and use report builder the user logged in is no longer recognized. All I am really trying to do is set up report builder so that users can generate reports and only have access to thier data via a customer number. I just can't allow users to see other users data and I don't want to set up a different datasource view for each user. Does any one have any experience with this?

HOW CAN I USE Case statement to calculate days for given start date and end date. I have to include all three totals, 1 for Job dates, 2, subjobs dates, 3 cal of days for a requested period.
We have been working on an application that will be using a forms-authenticated report server (RS2005) as a reporting back-end. Using the reporting services web service I have been able to assign permissions to objects in reporting services no problem. The issue is that each user needs to be added to the System User role to be able to use the report builder properly. I can't seem to find a way to do this programmatically. Any idea?
I try to add a db_role or a user to all my databases with one script. Although parsing doesn't report any problem I get a Syntax error during execution. I first select the database names into a #temp table which has two columns, ID and dbname. After that I use the following code:
I am attempting to set up a new user that has only the ability to run reports in the report manager.
I have created a new ActiveDirectory entry for DOMAINReportUser. I have a created a new folder with the reports, and have set this user as a Browser role on this directory, and all reports in the directory.
I have made it throught the security maze to gain access to these reports as this user, but I cannot dynamically run the reports. As the BUILTINAdministrator (content manager), I get a grayed background on the parameters and can run the reports. As this DOMAINReportUser, I get what looks like HTML parameter items, and cannot run a dynamic report. Even if I change the role of this user to Content Manager, I still cannot run a dynamic report.
How do you properly set up a user to be able to dynamically run, and only run, a report in Report Manager, and have this user only see reports in a single folder?
I have been fighting the security issues of creating a RS site and properly setting up access, and have yet to find a single site or person explaining the entire process in any coherant method.
There is a STIG Check that does not allow grant "Connect SQL" directly to any logins except SQL System and the SA account. My way of resolving this is to do the following:
Step One: We create a Server Role called SQL_APPLICATIONS – for the application accounts We create a Server Role called SQL_DBA – for the DBA accounts and give them direct “Connect SQL’ server permissions. MAKE THE ROLE OWNER = sysadmin (group)
Note: I think that creating a Server Role is only available starting with SQL Server 2012, but not sure. I am using SQL 2012
Step two: I add the members (Logins - SQL & Windows) – in this case any application accounts and DBA accounts to the new roles respectively
Step three: I remove the “Connect SQL” Permission from each Login
The first problem i noticed is that the maintenance plans failed with "The owner domainusername of job db_backup does not have server access.I am currently using a test system and wondered If you think I will have trouble with the application connecting when I try and implement on the production systems.
I have a report running and I am attempting to assign role based security. I added a group to the site level security. The group I added contains child groups. It doesn't seem that report server is looking into the child groups to see if the logged in user is a member of the child group. Is there anyway to get this to work instead of adding all the groups directly? I suspect that report server is using cominterop and cominterop is not traversing the directory tree?
I have number of users which are under 6 Groups. We have 4 drill through actions. Now I would like to restrict 2 drill through actions for only some groups.
I have an issue related to SSAS security. We have an SSAS multidimensional cube which needs 3 types of security:
- Access to the entire cube => OK, based upon a role - Restricted access to one department (= dimension) => OK, based upon a role - Access to the entire cube, but with dynamic security on 2 measures.
Let's say, we have 2 departments (food and non-food). Users within food are allowed to see sales and pieces from the food department, but not from the non-food department.
It is not an option to restrict access to the non-food department because there are other measure which they have access to. I tried cell security, but this is very slow and generates multiple empty rows on my selections.
I have a business requirement to build a tabular data model, where I need to mask information of other Agents from a given Agent but I still need to show the overall sales of the given product.
For eg: IF an Agent is in APAC region he should see APAC region sales and also should be able see the sales of the same product in other region without knowing region specific break down.
For Agent "Tom" in APAC region, the numbers will look like this APAC_Sales = 100,000 Other_Sales = 500,000
And if "John" is in NA region, then the number will look like this for him
NA_Sales = 200,000 Other_Sales = 400,000
I wanted to create "Roles" based on the Region, so all the agents belong to "APAC" region will have same view as Tom and "NA" region agents will have John's view.
The end users are using VB Applications, there they will be entering datas. Those datas will be stored in the SMS Database.
My Problem is through which Roles (Fixed Server Roles or Database Roles) I should attach these end users. If it is a Fixed Server Roles, Other than sysadmin role in which role I should attach this end user. Like that other than DB_Owner in which role I should attach these end users to the Database Roles.
I have a user with DBCREATOR Server role only. That user is able to create database but create table permission denied. how would I set permission on this user, so that this user can create databases and automatically becomes the DBOWNER of that database and can do any action on that database.
NOTE: I am talking about roles in my sql server - NOT in asp.net. I need to create a stored procedure that retrieves the roles that the currently logged in sql user has for a different database. I have the code that gets the roles for the user, but it only works if the user is in the database. I want to be in one database, and get the roles for a different database. I have tried using USE DATABASE, but this is not allowed in a store procedure.
Hi, I have got a problem. When I try to access my database table Users, I get the following error:
SELECT permission denied on object 'Users', database 'Users', owner 'dbo'.
So I tried to grand this select command in MS Web Data Administration, but it doesnt work. When I try to grand db_datareader role to dbo, I get the following error
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot use the reserved user or role name 'db_datareader'.
Does someone have an idea where could be a problem?
I'm rather new to the MS SQL Server development in general and especially to its data security architecture and features - I'd like to know if it is possible for end-user to retrieve/update(!?) the data using a SP which executes on a table for which she/he doesn't have any privileges.
Is there a System stored procedure that gives me the Role in which a user is in. For example I execute this procedure, give the user as parameter an that gives me back the Role the user is in. It has to be said that this is a user defined role, I got three of them, HR, Employee, Approver.

I wish to create a user that can backup any or all databases in our SQLServer 2000 Instance. I thought there would be a server role for thisfunction, however I can only find that after I grant access of adatabase to the user, then I can choose ds_backupoperator.I want to create a user that will have the ability to backup all thedatabases. I have a user in SQL Server 2000 with public, datareader and datawriter roles on several databases. I need to select all those databases, how can I do that. I have tried sp_databases but I get ALL databases. I also tried sp_MShasdbaccess but I still get all databases.
I am trying to export all of the user and role permissions out of several databases for auditing purposes. I see the Users and Roles listed under the Security tree view when I log into the database, but I do not see an option to export or query the permissions. In addition, we do not have any tables that reference user permissions in our databases. So, how would one go about exporting or querying this information?
I've seen similar topics where they recommend querying sys tables to gather the info, but I don't see those tables either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an HTMP form and for some reason, when I use a regular TextBox to display a field, Via an ASP conneciton to the database, it cuts it off when it gets to a " (A quote)
Example:
Field: Title Data: Where do "rabbits" come from?
If I try to pull that field into a regular html textbox it dispays,

Then if I change the textbox to a textarea it displays the entire field
Where do "rabbits" come from?
Is this a setting that causes this in SQL Server on the table.

Then, i hv created a user in SQL Server 2000 which is User1. What should i put for the database role? db_owner or just db_datareader and db_datawriter?
