Displaying Html Formatted Text In Text Object In Visual Studio 2005 Crystal Report
Apr 29, 2008
Hello,
I know this question has been asked here before, but it was ridiculously answered : http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=98764&SiteID=1
I have a text object on my crystal report, to which I programmatically want to assign text in CS. It all works fine, except that if I have html tags in there, the text doesn't get formatted, it just displays the html tags as text as well.
Now in thread linked above, the answer was: right click the text object, and format the text object, hit paragraph text and select text interpretation to HTML. The only problem is, that for a text object, it doesn't have the text interpretation option. It's only an option for a formula field. It says so in the tech support link posted inside the post itself!!!
So if you have any idea how I can do this, please someone help me out. I am new to crystal, and there's not much helpful info on it online. I've searched for this for hours, and no solution.
Hi,I have setup a report model and am ready to deploy it for the first time. I have had no issues deploying my report definitions so presumably this should be alright. However, trying to deploy it gives this error:

I'd greatly appreciate any insight you could give me into fixing this problem.ThanksJohn
Hello, I have a database that has Full Text Search it works great under Management Studio Express. I can use the CONTAINS expression no problem. Now when I try using the same database in Visual Studio 2005 the CONTAINS statement it doesn't return any values and I don't get any error messages. The way I call my database from my web.config file is as follows: <add name="MyDB" connectionString="Data Source=.FULLTEXTSEARCH;Integrated Security=True;AttachDBFilename='D:My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005WebSitesApp_DataMyDataBase.mdf';User Instance=false" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> Why doesn't Full Text Search work when I use it from my web application and it does work under SQL Server Management Studio Express? Please help, Louis
Hi, I have visual studio 2005 with the sql server express edition that is installed by default when installing vs2005. I am used to work from within vs when I want to create and work with databases for my web sites (I dont have visual manager installed). I would like to enable full text search on a table's column.
Is there an easy way to do that from within vs or is it necessary to install another copy of sql server express with advanced services as well as sql server managment studio express? How can I know if full text search is enabled?
I want to display a varbinary field in the reports. the field contains value "<B> example </B>. When viewed in report viewer, it displays the value as such.
Hello there! I installed and configured SQL Server 2005 reporting services. When I try to connect to it using SQL Server Management Studio, I get the following error: Client found response content type of "text/html", but expected "text/xml". What should be done to overcome this? Does anyone have any idea about this? Thanks in advance Hemant
Hi, In my VB .Net application , when I am trying to fire a SSRS report on my local machine . Its giving the error ".Client found response content type of 'text/html', but expected 'text/xml'." The request failed with the error message: -- <html><head><title>Error</title></head><body>The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted </body></html> --. the error is being thrown at the code line...
I am getting these errors from Report Manager. It seems that every time after the server has been idling for about 15 minutes, I would get this error message. I can click on other links and I am able to continue to use Report Manager.
Is there a timeout setting to help me resolve this or is this a bug with Report Manager? I just insitalled SP2 on the SQL Server and the Reporting Service.
Error message on browser:

Hi, In my report, I have a table that displays all the data from query. I need to take the value of the 3rd row,2nd column of the table and display in a text box. I tried to do like:
=ReportItems("TextBox2").Value., where TextBox2 is the 3rd row,2nd column of the table. This returns just the first row value of the seleted data. But, I need the 3rd row value.
I have a VS 2005 Web Appplication solution that uses SQL Server Reporting Services 2005. One of the projects is a Report Server Project. In this project I have an RDL file that has: 1.)a non-shared XML DataSource (no credentials), 2.)a DataSet with a Command Type of Text and a Query String that is as follows: <Query> <XmlData> <Root> <LOAD LOAD_ID_PREFIX="" LOAD_ID="" TRUCK="" DIAGRAM=""/> </Root> </XmlData> </Query>
3.)a field that comes from the Database that is of VarBinary(Max) that is a JPEG Image
What happens is, is that by doing #2 above, at design time I can create tables and hook into my datasets and get the report all designed out the way I want. Then at runtime, I have a Stored Procedure that uses the "FOR XML AUTO" option so that I can represent my results from the database in an XML fashion which will allow me to replace the XML Schema in between the Root tags above (in #2) with my actual data (which still has the same schema). I then save the modified RDL to a database table field and move on to happily ever after......in this case, not. In this case, since an VarBinary is involved, unless I want to get a pointer back for the Diagram Column, I have to use the "FOR XML AUTO, BINARY BASE64" option. This returns an Encoded string to represent the Binary value that was in the Database....and this is the partial source of my angst....read on.
My approach that I described above worked flawlessly in all cases where an image wasn't involved. This report is the only report in the whole system I am working on that will have an image and it is the last one being done, so that's why I didn't run into this earlier.
I have tried all kinds of things at different levels, but the thing that I have tried that seemed to me to have the most potential was to use Embedded Code to take the Encoded ASCII Value and convert into something binary that the SSRS Reporting Engine likes (so my image will show), but I have been unsuccessful thus far. The error message I keep getting now from my Embedded Function is: "Invalid length for a Base-64 char array", which I have not been able to resolve thus far....and I do know that the Binary value in the database is good becuase I can see it in pages in my application otherwise.
This aside, is there anyone out there that knows how to take the value of a VarBinary(Max) field and insert it into the Text (XML) DataSet in the markup of an RDL file....and have it appear correctly when the report is rendered in something like the standard Report Viewer Control (or even when being previewed at design time inside of Visual Studio for that matter)?
Just to be clear, the root of my problem, as I see and understand it, is that I have a VarBinary value in a database that is being converted to a string (ASCII...I am presuming) due to how I am writing my stored procedure and then needs to go back to something else binary that the SSRS Engine will accept so that I can see my Image in the report when I render it.
I am wishful that someone out there understands my problem and has run into this and has a solution......but I am wishful of winning the lottery, too, and that hasn't happened yet...............
I have database fields that contain RTF text. If I use the default Textbox in SSRS 2008 Report Designer, I get all the RTF formating characters, which makes for a VERY ugly report. Is there another control I can place on my report that will take the RTF formated text and display it properly? I can do this in Crystal Reports, but I'm converting to SSRS 2008 so I need to be able to handle RTF formated text.
Hi Everyone, Please help me on this issue. I'm a new SSIS User. I've installed Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition When I create a new SSIS Project in Business Intelligence Development Studio, I get the following message: "Microsoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document: Object reference is not set to an instance of an object". Error loading 'package.dtsx'bject reference is not set to an instance of an object When I try to debug the package, I get the below message: parameter Component(System.Design) is null. I've uninstalled and installed SS 2005 several times, yet the problem persists. Please help. This is the package.dtsx
I am retrieving a field from SQL and displaying that data on a web page. The data contains a mixture of text and html codes, like this "<b>test</b>". But rather than displaying the word test in bold, it is displaying the entire sting as text. How do I get it to treat the HTML as HTML?
Hi, I am trying to write the output of an sql query to a text file using bcp. Now the problem am facing is i have to format the text like i the following order... <DATETIMESTAMP>08:39 Thursday, March 15, 2007</DATETIMESTAMP><CATEGORY>Quarterly Sales</CATEGORY><HEADLINE>Quarterly Corporate Earnings (03/15/07)</HEADLINE><BODY> Quarterly Corporate Profits (03/15/07) PER-SHARE ($) NET EARNINGS (mil$) REV. I have some textual data that comes preformatted with some extra spaces and line feeds. I am attempting to put it in a Report using SSRS 2005.
When ever I view the report in HTML Mode all of the extra whitespace is suppressed into a single space. However when I export to PDF or Word it all comes back. I have tried using the .Replace() method to put in and <BR> tags into my code, but then it just displays the extra text and doesn't display it as HTML.
Is there anyway either replace the items with the appropriate HTML, or add the "PRE" whitespace CSS attribute to a Textbox so that the text displays the same in HTML and in a PDF?
I'm not sure if it's the setup I did wrong, but I can't seem to get my text datatype in my database to store more than 900 characters. I'm trying to setup a news database for my website, which will populate the information into a datagrid. To test, I manually added a news item in the database through the visual studio 2003 gui. I immediately noticed a problem as the I was getting an error after a long news item saying:
"The value you entered is not consistent with the data type or length of the column, or over grid buffer limit."
I couldn't find anthing to set the buffer limit and the datatype is "text" filled with simple text in the column. As a further test, I simply entered 12334567890123... up to 900 characters and still recevied the error.
I would appreciate someone leading me in the right direction on this one.
The latest similar question is almost a year old and hasn't been definitively answered. I'm designing a certificate type report where the declaration text uses static and dynamic text generated in an expression for the textbox. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be an obvious way of formating sections of the text expression with different font sizes, weights and attributes to depict the effect desired. E.g. I want one textbox to say:
This Certifies that {a field value} was blah blah blah by {another field value} etc.
Can this be done in a regular textbox? If not, are there any work-arounds to accomplish the same effect. BTW, I'm working in RS 2005 flavor with VS 2005 Report Designer.
I am basically new as far as SQl server 2005 concern. I want to try out reporting services provided by sql server 2005. That is make report using sql server 2005 and call that report from web or window application.
Please guide me in doing so or give me some useful link. Thanks
When I launch Visual Studio 2005 and choose to start a new project...I expect to see "Report Model" as an available template (at least that is what my book says).
How can I install this?
Why is it missing? Is it due to the order of my installations? I installed RS first then Visual Studio.
Has anybody ever had VS2005 sometimes crash when deploying reports? It only happens once and awhile, but it is annoying. I was hoping this would go away with service pack 1, but it didn't.
Another problem that I thought would be fixed is when you try to close VS2005 after working on reports and it states "Cannot close because an active modal is active" occasionally.
In SSRS I am trying to get a textbox value to hold text with a mixture of formatting, along the lines of "name (country)" where the "name" part is bold and the "(country)" is normally formated.
I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 to design reports. Is there any way to use one single image as background for a whole report-page? I only managed to set seperate background images for page header, body and footer, so the only 2 possibilities to solve this problem would be to either
* divide the image into 3 parts so that they fit exactly to the page parts or * not use any page header and footer.
Is there another possibility that I've missed?
Any help is highly appreciated! Thanks in advance,
I've got a SQL2008 database with 2008R2 Express loaded.
In VS2012 if I right click a table and select New Query, I get the Visual Designer.
In VS2013, same database, I get a blank page
I've tried a fresh install of 2012 and 2013 onto a fresh Win8.1, same thing. SQL2012 Express, same. If I use an LocalDB option, again no tools. I've tried Ultimate to see if it's something not in Pro.
Also the "code only" query doesn't connect me to the file properly, so even if I accept doing the query by hand, I have to paste a connection string every time.
I'm expecting it to do as per VS2012, and the VS2013 pages in [URL] My database is an attached file from an ASP.NET project App_Data folder.
on this report, am having ids separated by '^'.when I export to excel, I wrote the expression as
=Replace(Fields!Id.Value,"^",Environment.NewLine)
It is working fine, but the problem is if I have only one id in some scenario, then this case that cell is showing an error "The Number in this cell formatted as text or precedence by apostrophe" .But in other scenario,If the ids are separated by "^", then this case that cell wont show any error. So I need to display the cell wont have any error symbol if I have only one id .How can I achieve this?.
I am formating text by adding a hyperlink that looks like this:"https://IQuoteSummary.asp?vid=" & {v_L.VersionId}&"&lid=" &{Locations.LocationId}Both database fields are type numberThe url enters the address:"https://IQuoteSummary.asp?vid=1,521.00&lid=12.00"It works when I run the report in crystal but after publishing it onthe crystal publishing wizard thing, I get those weird numbers.I need these numbers as ints and without a comma. I tried changing theformatting on the database fields on the report but that doesn't work.Any idea how to get the url to print like this:"https://IQuoteSummary.asp?vid=1521&lid=12"Thanks

But where and how can I create it graphically in management Studio for 2005?
Hi all. Iv'e tryed out xp_smtp_sendmail, and I like what I can see sofar. The thing I wonder about is if the xp supports sending both htmlAND plain text in the same mail.
