I have some questions regarding replication in SQL Server 2005.
1. Is it neccessary to have same schema on each side i.e on subsicriber and on publisher?
2. Do replication helps me to replicate the changed schema (of published articals) to the subscribers?
3. If a UDT is defined on publisher and one of its dependent is selected for publication do i need to define the UDT on subscriber manually or it will automatically done for me?
4. pls anyone who can give me the detail known issues and their alternative solutions in regard of maintainence of Replication.

Our Database Maintenance Plan has stopped backing up the database. I can manually backup the database but the plan does not work. We tried creating a new plan but the new plan is not backing up either. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you for your help!

Refreshing Database Before Restart

i am running a game from a dedi box .. ms sql..
and every time i restart and put it back up ,,,,it rewinds the database
the only way i can prevent this is if i restart the server
wait a phew hours then put it back up ,,"which makes it the same way it was when i logged off"
i was told that sql database servers refresh every hour.
is there a way i can make it refresh before i restart it so then i can put the server straight back up
if i restart the server back up straight away it does a rewind for some reason.

the server does a rewind because it wouldn't have saved the game so to speak - as in updated everyone's characters. So yes waiting is the only way as far as I know to save the game.

Tried reinstalling SP 2 in quiet mode using sapwd parameter.....now everything is showing the correct SP2 version but SQL Server Service won't start.......anyone????????
SQL Server 2014 :: Maintenance Plan Not Visible Under Database Engine After Import
Aug 13, 2015I have a query. Here are the steps:
1. I created a maintenance plan using Visual Studio 2013 (nothing fancy pretty basic)
2. Using ssms 2014 I imported it (the dtsx file) under the Integration Services and it appeared there successfully
3. I connected to the Database Engine again using ssms 2014 - my expectation was to see it under the Management > Maintenance Plans folder but it was not present.

Apr 13, 2007I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise, then SP1 and then SP2, Maintenance Plan worked. But if I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise and then SP2 directly (skipping SP1), the Check Database Integrity in Maintenance Plan was not working. The error message is as follows:

SQL Server 2008 :: Changed Database From Full To Simple - Maintenance Plan Failing
Mar 6, 2015One of my programmers changed their database from full to Simple recovery. Saw that my job that backs up the Full Recovery mode databases failed, so I moved that database to my Simple database backup job plan and removed it from the Full Recovery job. I am unable to remove the db from the Transaction Log task on the Full Plan because when I try to edit that job "Databases with Simple Recovery will be excluded"
My transaction log backups are still failing with the following error: "The statement BACKUP LOG is not allowed while the recovery model is SIMPLE. Use BACKUP DATABASE or change the recovery model using ALTER DATABASE. BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.Just want to remove that database so my Full Recovery backup job does not try to back it up.
SQL Server 2008 :: Failed Task In Maintenance Plan Not Being Reported By Database Mail
Apr 29, 2015I have inherited a server on which is a maintenance plan with two subplans on different schedules. In each subplan there are Execute T-SQL tasks with scripts for index rebuilds. Each task is set up with a Completion arrow to the next task and a Failure arrow to a Notify Operator Task. I was asked to add a task for index rebuilds to a specific subplan for a specific database, which is what the other tasks also do. I discovered that my task was failing but the others were fine. No notification was sent about my task failing even though the job is marked in MSDB as a failed job. I have sent a test email using the "Send Test Email..." option when right clicking Database Mail in SSMSand I receive an email so I know Database Mail works.
I set up a test job to model the index job that I can't get notifications from. I have two T-SQL tasks that just select the top row from a small table. The first task has a syntax error that I did so it would fail. I have a failure arrow to a Notify Operator Task and a Completion arrow to another T-SQL task with no syntax error which has a Success arrow to a Notify Operator task. As expected, when I execute this job I receive one failure email and one success email.
The only other troubleshooting step I know to try is to add a Notify Operator task before my failing task. That Notify Operator task will hopefully fire to tell me that the previous step was successful. I am not having problems with the other steps so I was just thinking I would try to get the subplan to send me a success email about one of the steps that has been working fine.

Intermittent Restart Of SQL Server 6.5
Apr 3, 2001I've a SQL server that intermittently restarts itself mostly during. Its a SQL Server 6.5 SP4 running NT 4.0 SP6. It really has no rhyme or reason to it happening. The are no indications in either the SQL or the Nt events logs.
Has anyone heard of this?

I have a linked server set up to a proprietarty temporal DB through an OLEDB provider. From time to time and for various reasons the OLEDB provider crashes with "Error 7302 Could not create an instance of OLE DB Provider 'IhOLEDBProvider.iHistorian.1'. OLE DB Trace [Non Interface Error: CoCreate of DSO for IhOLEDBProvider.iHistorian.1 returned 0x80070008"
Up till now, to re-initilize the connection we have just restarted the SQL Server service. However, some automated processes are now feeding data into this server and more users and have started coming online so restarting for this issue has become a big deal.
Getting the OLEDB provider sorted out isn't an option at present so my question is:
Is there a way to re-initalise a failed linked server other that restarting the SQL Service?

I've got a table with a column that contains the status of available licenses to the user, i.e. they are either in use or are available. If the server goes down, then when it is restarted I need to make sure all the rows in this column describe each license as being available.
So the question is how can I ensure data in a table is, if you like, initialized, each time the server is restarted? Is there a system defined stored proc or trigger than is executed when a server is restarted?

Sql Server Restart After Locking

i hv a database (sql server 2000) where i got locking on many tables and my application was down.
I restarted the sql server and the application was fine but after five minutes the same locking issue started happening. I did a index rebuild the next time on all indexes and everything was fine.But i cannot relate how locking occured and why it was not after index rebuild.Can anyone shed some light on this or anyone had similar experience... cos i cannot figure out a way on this.

How To Get CDatabase To Reconnect After SQL Server Restart
Jan 26, 2007I have an old application to maintain that uses CDatabase to connect to SQL Server. If SQL Server is stopped and restarted, such as in a cluster failover (i.e. move group), then the CDatabase connection needs to reconnect. It seems that it's not capable of doing this on it's own so I need to check the state some how. Various methods, such as IsOpen, seem to be useless as far as determining if I have a "good" connection.

How Do U Fix @@servername = NULL Without Restart SQL Server ?
Apr 27, 2004@@servername sometimes returns NULL depending on how you have been messing around with replication and various other settings.
The simple solution offered to fix this is to delete the entries in the system tables and sp_addserver 'servername','local' and then restart the SQL service.
This is fine but what do you do in the situation where the SQL server is a 24/7 production box ? Does anyone know of a method / hack to fix this without stopping the service ?

Failed Restore And Server Restart
Jun 6, 2008We were trying to restore our production server db backup in test server over LAN (due to space shortage on test server) . Test server hanged and did not respond for abt more than 15 hours (backup file 40 GB ) . The we restarted the server (resetting the power button) . Now it's showing the status 'Restoring' . According to me it's not doing anything (as seen in task manager workload ) . So how can I go ahead with checking the db .
Due to 'restoring' status I get following error

Indexes Need Rebuild After Restart Server???
Oct 4, 2007Hi All.
Our inhouse app used to run on a SQL2000, but we've recently moved it to 2005.
The move was done by way of backup and restore (it was on a whole new server).
After the move, an odd problem showed up: once in a while, the server seems incapable of finding/using its indexes: everything starts working slowly, until I run a maintenance plan that rebuilds its indexes etc.
In the database/server all relevant options seem to be ok (auto update statictiscs etc.), and my conclusion that it doesn't use its indexes comes from the fact that:
* it gives the results from certain select statements in a totally different order (although the set of rows is the same),
* performance is (all of a sudden) very slow (seconds turning to minutes!!)
This happens:
* at least after a reboot of the server
* sometimes just in the middle of the day
The only way I've found to solve the matter, is by running the maintenance plan to rebuild the indexes, but sometimes this only seems to work the second time.
Does anybody share this experience, or know what to do about it?

I have a common maintenance plan that runs on each of the servers. The maintenance plan runs
fine on all the servers except for one. On the one server the Database Integrity check fails with the following error:

Failed0) Alter failed for Server €˜XYZ€™
I created a test maintenance plan to just do the integrity check and selected one database only and this also failed with the same error message. I ran this test maintenance plan and configured it for each of the databases in question and it failed each time.
If I run the DBCC manually against the databases they all report fine.
I read some of the post that talked about the €œAllow Updates€? being set incorrectly but that does not apply to my problem since my configured and run values are set to 0.
Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Unable To Connect To SQL Server After Service Restart

We have been having a problem with on of our servers, applications connecting to it are experiencing poor performance, even though the server is only running at a peak of 50%.
The odd thing is that after a sql service restart we couldnt connect at all on the SQL port. We were only able to re-connect after rebooting the actuall box. Is there anything that can be done about this? Its strting to look like a network related problem instead of SQL

The sql server service is getting stopped even after the manual restart. I have checked in event viewer and I noticed a error. Here is the error...The log scan number (43:456:1) passed to log scan in database ‘model’ is not valid. This error may indicate data corruption or that the log file (.ldf) does not match the data file (.mdf). If this error occurred during replication, re-create the publication.

Feb 2, 2015Is there a way to find the max number of sessions that were on a sql server since its last restart? I know how to get how many total connections there were since last restart, and the current number of sessions, but not the max number of sessions that were running since last restart. Also, opinion on the optinum number of allowable sessions, or a good way to figure out the balance?
