BCP On Other Platforms Than Windows

Jun 8, 2001

Hi,

We use 4 SGBDRs : MSSQL7, Oracle 8 (soon 9), Sybase 7, IBM DB2.

I used DTS on MSSQL and with Oracle, we used SQL Loader

Since yseterday, we are very happy : we note than the BCP utility can be used on the 4 SGBDR on window. It's really nice

But we use also Unix, Solaris, Sun... as platforms.

And we don't really know if BCP is so nice on thse others platforms

If somebody can give me informations about it, it would be really nice

Thanks for your answers

Package Execution Fails In Windows Service But Runs Fine As A Windows Application.

Jun 23, 2006

I am attempting to write a Windows service that watches a database for uploaded files to import. When a new file is found, the corresponding SSIS package is run from the file system with variables passed through. I started development as a Windows app and copied the functionality to a service.

The app runs fine. The service does not. I get a "Failure" each time a package is executed. Everything is identical behind the scenes with the obvious exceptions that OnStart and OnStop handlers are buttons in the app. I added a script task at the beginning of one of the SSIS packages to notify me that it is even running at all. It doesn't even hit that initial task.

Again, the app will run all packages just fine. The data is imported and the results return as "Success."

The following is the code executing the package. Any help is appreciated. I've been banging my head on this one for a few days now. (Is there a tag to format a code sample?)

Dim pkgLocation As String
Dim pkg As New Package
Dim app As New Application
Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult

pkgLocation = sPackageFolder & PackageName & ".dtsx"

pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, Nothing)

Dim vars As Variables = pkg.Variables

vars("ImportId").Value = ImportId
vars("ProductionServer").Value = ProductionServer
vars("ProductionDatabase").Value = ProductionDatabase
vars("SourceFileName").Value = FileName
vars("SourceFilePath").Value = FilePath

pkgResults = pkg.Execute()

A Procedure Runs Slow As A Job But Runs Fast Executed In A Query Window

Apr 23, 2008

Performance issue.

I have a very complex Stored Procedure called by a Job that is Scheduled to run every night.
It's execution takes sometimes 1 or 2 hours and sometimes 7 hours or more.

So, if it is running for more than 4 hours I stop the Job and I run the procedure from a Query Window and it never takes more than 2 hours.

Can anyone help me identify the problem ? I want to run from the Job and not to worry about it.

Some more information:
- It is SQL 2000 Enterprise with SP4 in a Cluster (It happens the same way in any node).
- The SQL Server and SQL Agent services run using a Domain Account that have full Administrative access.
- When I connect to a Query Window I also use a Windows Account.

- There is no locks or process bloking or being blocked while the job is running.
- Using the Task Manager the processor activity is ok, no more than 30 % in any processor.

Export Data To Access DB Via ManagedDTS From 64 Bit Platforms

Oct 2, 2007

Hi everybody.

I've seen a lot of stuff regarding 64 bit and Jet drivers. Apparently the only way to overcome this situation is using the command line 32 version of DTEXEC found in C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90DTSBinn. Is that trick what SSIS is using under the cover when it successfully executes my export package? Or is there a mean of building the managed application so it uses the traditional 32 bit libraries of Jet/Access?

I (obviously) prefer using managed code approach when loading and executing SSIS from my end user application. Any suggestion would appreciated.

Thx.

SQL 2012 :: SSDT Installation On Multi-server Platforms

Jun 25, 2014

We have a BI-Stack configuration for server SQL 2012 that includes a gateway server that houses the app, a second server which houses SQL Server DB and SSIS, and a third server that houses SSAS and SSRS. Where should SSDT tools be installed? I assume on the gateway? This is a production environment, so should VS and/or SSDT not be here at all?

Stored Procedure Just Runs And Runs

Oct 9, 2001

I have a stored proceedure (which I will tag on at the end for those interested) which is taking at least 15 minutes to run when executed, but completes in 1 minute when the tsql statement is run in Query Analyser. Why is this?

I suspect that it may be connected to table indexing, but why then is this bypassed when QA is used?

Any advice appreciated.

Derek

Stored Procedure Runs Diffrently In 2000 And 2005

Apr 19, 2007

Hi there everybody,

I am writing a sales managing software using C# in .NET 2005.
The program was used to work properly with sql server 2000.
I decided to write a "FILE Version" of sofware using sql server express 2005 , and detached db from 2000 , attaching it to 2005 using AttachDBFileName clause in connection string.

But the problem is when program executes something like this:
EXEC [AddOrder] ...
two rows inserted instead of one.and when I use server explorer of VS2005 to launch SP, it works fine.
I should mention again that same code works correctly when I change connection string and force it to use sqlserver 2000.

Any ideas?

Kind Regards: Ali

Stored Procedure Runs In 2000, Hangs In 2005

Nov 8, 2006

I have a rather complex sp that runs for 4 minutes in SQL2000. It computes some messy oil and gas revenue/cost transactions. It involves lots of calls to functions that return single values of all types and also returns recordsets. There are all kinds of joins with temp and memory tables, etc. Just a mess, but it works. However, in SQL2005, it runs and apparently hangs, as it never ends.

I have run the Upgrade Advisor and otherwise, have not found any information that tells me that there are issues with functions or SQL-specific functions, tables, etc. that might cause this. Does anyone on this forum have some pointers on where I might look for assistance on this matter? Surely someone knows something about things working differently in 2005.

Thanks,

Jim

Visual Studio 2005 Runs Out Of Memory When Trying To Use SSIS Package

Jul 12, 2006

Visual Studio runs out of memory when trying to use SSIS package. I am trying to create and run a SSIS package that validates and imports some large xml files >200MB. Validation fails because Visual studio cannot open large files without running out of memory.

The SSIS package throws this error when I run the package..at the validation task.

Error: 0xC002F304 at Validate bio_fixed, XML Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.".

How do I increase the amount of RAM that VIsual Studio can use...I have plenty of RAM on my workstation >3GB, but VS chokes maybe around 100MB files?

Thanks,

Forrest

I hope that someone could help me.

I have a problem when i start sincronyzing with the emulator of MSVS2005 to SQL2005 in Windows Vista. I have the same program in the emulator, but sincronyzing with windows XP Pro and no problem...

I configure the connection to use the IUSR.

The source code that i use:

repl.InternetUrl = @"http://laptop/SQLMobileIIS/sqlcesa30.dll";

repl.Publisher = @"laptop";

repl.PublisherDatabase = @"database";

repl.PublisherSecurityMode = SecurityType.NTAuthentication;

repl.Publication = @"Pubdatabase";

repl.Subscriber = @"SQLMobile";

repl.SubscriberConnectionString = @"Data Source='" + nomeFicheiroBD + "';Password='3409'";

The error that returns is:

"Failure to connect to SQLServer with provided connection information. SQL Server does not exist, access is denied because the IIS user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect"

Does anybody knows what i can do?

RS 2005: Stored Procedure With Parameter It Runs In The Data Tab But The Report Parameter Is Not Passed To It

Feb 19, 2007

Hello,
since a couple of days I'm fighting with RS 2005 and the Stored Procedure.

I have to display the result of a parameterized query and I created a SP that based in the parameter does something:

SET ANSI_NULLS ON
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
CREATE PROCEDURE [schema].[spCreateReportTest]
@Name nvarchar(20)= ''

AS
BEGIN

declare @slqSelectQuery nvarchar(MAX);

SET NOCOUNT ON
set @slqSelectQuery = N'SELECT field1,field2,field3 from table'
if (@Name <> '')
begin
set @slqSelectQuery = @slqSelectQuery + ' where field2=''' + @Name + ''''
end
EXEC sp_executesql @slqSelectQuery
end

Inside my business Intelligence Project I created:
-the shared data source with the connection String
- a data set :
CommandType = Stored Procedure
Query String = schema.spCreateReportTest
When I run the Query by mean of the "!" icon, the parameter is Prompted and based on the value I provide the proper result set is displayed.

Now I move to "Layout" and my undertanding is that I have to create a report Paramater which values is passed to the SP's parameter...
So inside"Layout" tab, I added the parameter: Name
allow blank value is checked and is non-queried

the problem is that when I move to Preview -> I set the value into the parameter field automatically created but when I click on "View Report" nothing has been generated!!

What is wrong? What I forgot??

Thankx for any help!
Marina B.

Vista SQL 2005 SP2 Client To Windows XP SQL 2005 (non-sp2) Workstation.

Apr 26, 2007

I'm trying to use SQL Management Studio to connect from a Vista SQL 2005 client w/ SP2 over to a Windows XP workstation running SQL server developer edition (non-sp2) using windows authentication.

I'm already preauthenticated by network shares to the xp workstation. This worked just fine in windows xp but stop working in vista.

After searching around, i found out that vista handles trusted authentication differently than windows xp due to changes in the SSPI. Logging in as sql authentication works fine. Logging in as windows authentication does not.

UPDATE: I found out that two workstations running vista and sql 2005 sp2 cannot connect to each other using windows trusted authentication!!!

What the heck?

UPDATE: I found out that my IIS 7.0 using ASP.NET and connecting to SQL 2005 (non sp2) on a Windows 2003 server (SP1) WILL connect to the database using trusted authentication... apparently IIS can access the credentials and pass them to the sql 2005 box just fine. My Sql 2K5 SP2 tools cannot. I'm forced to use SQL authentication to the box.

Same thing applies with a Windows XP SP2 box running SQL 2005 (non sp2).

Here is my sql server error log off of the windows xp workstation:

Windows Backup And SQL 2005

Feb 8, 2007

I know I've been posting a lot about another problem but you all have been most helpful so I thought I'd throw this one at you too.

My nephew's company has a server with Small Business Server 2003 SP1 and they run Windows Backup for their daily backups. They also have SQL 2005 Workgroup on that machine. Prior to SQL 2005, they ran SQL 7 and had no problems with their daily backups. Once they upgraded (clean installed actually) SQL 2005 their backups fail. The event log errors with Event ID 6013 and says:

SQLlib error: OLEDB Error encountered calling IDBInitialize::Initialize. hr=0x80004005 SQLSTATE: 08001, Native Error: 17 Error state: 1, Severity: 16
Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Error Message: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen[Connect[]].]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Obviously, SQL Server does exist, so I presume it has to do with an access denial. Microsoft has been no help and Googling other sites have gotten nowhere. DLL updates have been done and hot fixes installed. But the error persists.

Any ideas of where he should look?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Mar 23, 2006

I'm running on a Windows Xp Pro system and need to install sql server 2005. I will be doing development as well as having the need to use the reporting services. What version of sql server 2005 should I install? I looked for sql server 2005 Developer edition and was unable to find it in the download section from MS.

Any pointers here would be appreciated.

thanks.

SQL 2005 Login With Windows Accounts

Dec 19, 2006

Hello,
I'm having a problem using Windows Accounts to login to a SQL 2005 Server.
Here is my setup. The SQL server and web server are separate machines. I'm also not developing directly on the web server.
SQL Server - Windows 2003 Server- SQL 2005- Set to use SQL and Windows AuthenticationWeb Server- Windows 2003 Server- IIS 6.0 - Anonymous Authentication is disabled - Integrated Windows Authentication is enabledApplication web.config:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0"><appSettings>   <add key="ETR_Environment" value="Dev"/></appSettings>
<connectionStrings>   <add connectionString="Data Source=sql-dev-server, 1179;Initial Catalog=ENV_ETR;Integrated Security=SSPI;" name="ETR_Dev"/>   <add connectionString="" name="ETR_Prod"/></connectionStrings>
<system.web>   <compilation debug="true" strict="false" explicit="true"/>   <pages>      <namespaces>         <clear/>         <add namespace="System"/>         <add namespace="System.Collections"/>         <add namespace="System.Collections.Specialized"/>         <add namespace="System.Configuration"/>         <add namespace="System.Text"/>         <add namespace="System.Text.RegularExpressions"/>         <add namespace="System.Web"/>         <add namespace="System.Web.Caching"/>         <add namespace="System.Web.SessionState"/>         <add namespace="System.Web.Security"/>         <add namespace="System.Web.Profile"/>         <add namespace="System.Web.UI"/>         <add namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls"/>         <add namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts"/>         <add namespace="System.Web.UI.HtmlControls"/>      </namespaces>   </pages>
  <authentication mode="Windows"></authentication>  <customErrors mode="Off"></customErrors>  <authorization>     <allow users="XXXWilliam.Klein"/>     <deny users="*"/>  </authorization></system.web></configuration>
The reason why I want to use the windows login to connect to the database is the application needs to keep track of who did what when entering and updating data but still keep them using there windows login accounts. So using a generic account will not work.
What keeps happening is I keep getting this error: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'. When trying to connect the database. I've tried this on two web servers on another I get something slightly different: Login failed for user 'XXXWeb-Server$'.
Anybody able to give me any suggestions on how to fix this?

4 GB Memory For SQL 2005 Std + Windows 2003 Std

Jul 31, 2007

We just upgraded the memory of our database server from 2GB to 4GB. And its OS is windows 2003 standard and sql is 2005 standard edition. According to microsoft(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143685.aspx and http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx#physical_memory_limits_windows_server_2003), this configuration should allow database use up to 4 GB memory. My question is : Do I need to do anything(such as: adjust the maximum memory in management studio) to let our server be able to consume this extra 2 GB memory?

Does this solution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/274750 apply for SQL server 2005?

SSRS 2005 On Windows Vista

Nov 19, 2007

Hello, I am deploying SSRS 2005 on Windows Vista and was wondering if there was a way to automate the following three tasks so that my end-users would not have to do them?

Add a URL to the Trusted Sites for the current computer name?

Change the Security Level setting for User Authentication for the Trusted Site added in step #1 to be automatic logon with current username and password?

Change the properties on IE7 to run with Administrative privileges?
I think, but am not sure that some of these can be done with VBScript? If these can't be automated, then end-users of my application will have to go through these 3 steps manually in order to view the SSRS reports that I have written without being prompted to log in, or encountering error messaged due to insufficient privileges.

Thanks in advance!

Tim

MS SQL 2005 + Windows Server 2003 SP2

Jul 13, 2007

At first I thought it was just me, but has anyone else noticed that SQL 2005 suffers a performance hit when you install Windows Server 2003 SP2?

Since SP2, memory and hard drive usage has gone through the roof on a number of servers I use. It may just be coincidence... but it seems unlikely.
