Does SSRS Support Cluster?
Feb 3, 2007
SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services, Notification Services, and Integration Services are not cluster-aware; they are always installed as stand-alone components, but can use a clustered SQL Server database.
Words above come from sql 2005 help on msdn, but the guide of ms reporting manager says,
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) must already be installed and configured before you can install SCRM 2006. Although SQL Server 2005 and SSRS support a scaled-out deployment model configuration using clustered servers, SCRM 2006 does not support clustered servers.
Why they are different? which one is correct?
Thanks.

I am looking for information on using CSV storage for a windows 2012r2 Hyper-V cluster configuration.
The cluster will be used by SQL Server 2014.
Mainly, does it support filestream.I have not found much documentation for using Cluster shared volumes with SQL Server 2014.There was a session at Tech-Ed 2014 on the subject.
SQL Server 2014 is the first version to support CSV storage.

We will be implementing our first SQL cluster in December. Our current plan calls for a shared development/test database server with one physical server, but two SQL Server instances. Our production environment will be a SQL cluster. Is it necessary to create a clustered test environment for testing patches, hot-fixes, etc...?
Thanks, Dave

Hi,
I've an serious issue with SSRS 2005.
When I export Report to PDF file then it converts Japanese Char into ?????.
There is a report which is keeping Japanese as well as English characters.
Is Export of SSRS does not support Unicode Characters?
We are in last stage of Project and we found this issue,
And it is creating very problem for us.
Is there any way to resolve this issue.
Thanks in Advance

When trying to use the report editor in VS 2008, I noticed that there is no longer an option to use an XML data source (either a file-based or URL-based source). This is a major omission given that so many services nowadays are exposed via REST-style interfaces.
Please advise if I'm missing something! I'm using the February CTP.
Thanks,
Rick

I was recently told SSRS does not support the ability to underline a portion of text in a sentence. Does anyone know if this is true? Couldn't "text decoration" "underline" and "span" be used to underline the web address in the sample sentence below?
"Please visit our website at: www.abc.com"
Thanks

Is there a support of printing report with matrix that is set to RTL (LayoutDirection) which displays in ReportViewr control with property RightToLeft set to RightToLeft.Yes in DisplayMode = PrintLayout.
The report looks fine in the report viewr in DisplayMode = Normal, but when goes to PrintLayout, it seems that the left data on page is rendered first.
Example: This is the display of the report viewer, I would like to print the columns by the same order it displays here:
And this is the result when clicking Print Preview: the first page displays the data of the last columns and if i go to the last page (page 9) i will see the data of the first column as displays in the previous gif, I don't have a clue why?
Is there a property that can be set to force the print layout to render RTL. Anyway, it seem to me as a bug since the Report Viewer displays the data correctly and renders the data RTL as expected.

We need to install the webservice and the database on a failover cluster. Our plan was to install the web service on node 1 and the database would naturally be on the cluster aware sql service. We know the RS will not be cluster aware and if node1 bites the dust, reports will be out of business.
We were planning to do this tommorow on development, but then found this little tidbit - read the very last paragraph
http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/crm/using/deploy/clusteringssrs.mspx
SQL Server Reporting Services failover cluster configurations that are not supported
Do not deploy both SQL Server Report Services and the reporting services databases on each node of a multi-node cluster. Moreover, do not deploy SQL Server Reporting Services in a two-node cluster environment that consists of an active node and a passive node where the passive node becomes active during a failover.
They don't explain why not to do it - as if it will destroy your machine! This is our main dev cluster and we don't need it to go down.
We will not be installing the RS on each node, just one. But I was thinking that if the dns entry for the service points to N1, it will continue to function and make successfull DB calls to the sql server cluster name.
Could this work? I've found posts of people installing RS on both nodes and having success - but this would probably require another license...which we don't have.
Thanks so much for your help - it is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I am installing SSRS 2005 with the following scenario:
- Report Server and Report Manager will be installed on web server
- The repository databases (ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB) will be hosted in SQL2005 cluster server.
Both servers are running Win2003 SP1, SQL/SSRS 2005 SP1
When I try to browse the ReportServer virtual directory from IIS on the web server, the system keep asking username and password. After 3 times trials and it failed eventhough the username and password is correct.
The error message is:
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
Internet Information Services (IIS)
I've been searching on the web and found couple of articles talking about this issue. I've tried some of them like: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887993 or even this one: http://groups.google.ca/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.reportingsvcs/browse_frm/thread/991c9178ceab8f58/8f1a447aa60ad837?lnk=st&q=reporting+services+the+server+is+not+responding&rnum=3&hl=en#8f1a447aa60ad837
But this doesn't work.
I've checked both event viewer both web server and SQL server, but I can't see any information that tell me what had happened.
I also look at BOL, but doesn't help much.
Is there anyone can help me or point me to the right direction? Is there any guide document that explains step-by-step how to install SSRS in my scenario or similiar?
Many Thanks,
Usman Tjiudri

I've just started hosting my newly created Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition web site. Unfortunately the Login group membership functions will not function correctly. Having contacted the web service hosting provider, They replied: "We do not support SQL express2005. The only way to use the extra functions of ASP.NET2 such as group membership is if it is using an SQL 2000 database to connect to. "
Is it possible to design web sites with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition that store membership details on an SQL 2000 database?
I've just paid £88 approx. $140 for a years subscription, have I chosen the wrong web service hosting provider?
Should I have designed the web site with a better web site design software tool that also makes designing membership login functionality easy, just as Microsoft Visual Web developer 2005 express edition?
Look forward to all comments?

Philip

During the installation of Adding node to a SQL Server failover cluster(On passive node) getting error like.. The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server. This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such as the failure of the WMI server to start. We run the below commands but didn’t get any resolution & got the same above error .
1st Method…
1. Open console command (Run->CMD with administrator privileges).
2. net stop winmgmt
3. Rename folder %windir%System32WbemRepository to other one, for backup purposes (for example _Repository).
4. net start winmgmt
2nd Method..
1. Disable and stop the WMI service.
a) Command : - sc config winmgmt start= disabled
b. Command : - net stop winmgmt
2. Run the following commands.
a). Command: Winmgmt /salvagerepository %windir%System32wbem
b). Command: Winmgmt /resetrepository %windir%System32wbem
3. Re-enable the WMI service
Command: sc config winmgmt start= auto
Last command to run after above steps
4. Command: mofcomp "%programfiles(x86)%Microsoft SQL Server100Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof"
File not found Error for above command.

Hi
We are planning to upgrade the SQL Server in our production environment from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. This is a 4 Node cluster environment with 3 Databases on 3 Virtual instances. The main requirement is to achieve this with no/minimal downtime.
Could you please suggest or direct me to any documentation for the best practices used to upgrade such an environment?

We have (had) an active/active cluster. 2 physical machines,
each running their own instance, clustered together. Node1/Ins1 and Node2/Ins2.
Node2 failed and Ins2 failed over to Node1 as it should. Node2 required that we
rebuild the server (rebuild = reinstall O/S). Now we need to get Node2 back
into the cluster and get Ins2 failed back over to Node2.
Does anyone know, for certain, the correct steps to accomplish this? Obviously,
we could backup everything and completely destroy Ins2 and recreate it on Node2
then rejoin the cluster. But I'm looking for something less destructive.
Is it possible to reinstall SQL, then rejoin the cluster, and then fail Node2
over? Or will there be registry conflictions?
Any help would be appreciated. Also, if you have any links to some official
documentation, that would be great too.
Thanks

We're upgrading a SQL Server 2000 cluster (Active/Passive) running on Windows 2000 Server to a SQL Server 2005 Cluster running on Windows Server 2003. We can't purchase new hardware and we have no spare hardware. We also need to move from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server at the same time. We want to keep downtime to a bare minimum.
What we were thinking was the following steps... Anyone try this?
1. Break the link between the servers.
2. Install a fresh copy of windows 2003 server on one side along with SQL Server 2005. While this step is running, the active node would still be live on Windows 2000 Server and SQL Server 2000 serving our customers.
3. Restore a copy of a backup from the active production side to the node we're upgrading and at that point we would bring the active node down, switching the active node to be the newly upgraded server.
4. As a final step, the old active node would now have the link to it broken, we would install a fresh copy of windows 2003 server on it and sql server 2005. At this point we would bring it back into the cluster and the cluster would be complete again.
Thoughts?

Is it possible to write SSRS 2008 reports to run on an existing SSRS 2005 server?
If yes, what do I need to do to be able to write SSRS 2008 reports on my developer PC that will run on the SQL 2005 Server (which also has SSRS 2005 installed on it)?
I installed Visual Studio 2008 beta on the development PC and it appears that it needs SSRS installed on it too. So I installed SQL 2008 SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) and SQL 2008 Workstation Components onto the developer PC. Next I run the SQL 2008 "Reporting Services Configuration" tool. When I click on the "Web Service URL" section it hangs indefinitely and I have to force it closed.
The developer PC is Windows Vista Business.
Any suggestions on making this work, or any other information that you can think of that would allow me to use Visual Studio 2008 and the SQL 2008 "Report Designer Preview" tool to develop SSRS reports that will run on the SQL 2005 SSRS server?
Thanks!

I have two Windows 2000 servers (Advance Edition) to form a Windows Cluster. I also install MS SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition on the cluster to form a MS SQL cluster. Now, I want to upgrade the hardware and OS (but keep on using SQL 2000), so I install Windows 2003 server Enterprise Edition on two new servers to form a new Windows Cluster. I am planing to install MS SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition on the new cluster, so the old SQL cluster and new SQL cluster are side by side. I would like to know how to setup a new SQL cluster (I know it has problem to rename SQL Cluster name, so how to fix this problem)? And how to transfer everything (such as system databases, users database, sql user account, password and maintenance plan jobs etc) from old SQL cluster to new SQL cluster? And how to switch over from old SQL cluster to new SQL cluster?
Thanks a lot !

According to microsoft, we can cluster SSIS service but it is NOT RECOMMENDED.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345193.aspx
Now this is the situation that I have where I need to understand how SSIS works?
Enviornment: Active Active cluster enviornment for SQL server with SSIS server installed as stand alone as default on both node.
Name: Node 1 Node 2
--------- -------------- ---------------------
Server name: Nd1 Nd2
SQL server name: cs-nd1in01 cs-nd2in02
SSIS server name: Nd1 Nd2
BTW, this is cosolidated enviornment so there are more than one application expected and resides on each instance of SQL server.
The question is around SSIS, what would be the best practice to develop SSIS package that can work with above envoinrment.
Secnario: What if my Nd1 fails. SQL server cs-nd1IN01 will be failover to Nd2 and it will be available. But How about SSIS packages? How that understands
to use Nd2 SSIS as Nd1 SSIS is not available. Is anyone has similar experience to setup SSIS in cluster envionrment but as non-cluster service?
Please help. Thanks in adavance.
