Mar 19, 2007Does anyone know if I can't put Access 2003 and SQL 2005 on the same server together? I've got an old, well not that old, application that was farmed out coming back home and apparently it's backend is Access and the frontend is ASP, I think. Anyway, the power's that be would like to upgrade to SQL 2005 and would like everything on the same box together. I've heard rumors that's not possible... Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks a ton.

Web Part Deserialization Error When Trying To Change Report Viewer Web Part Programmatically.

I have SSRS 2005 SP2 configured to work in Sharepoint integration. Everything works fine except that I am not able to programmatically change any property of report viewer web part (instance) that I have added on on home page of my sharepoint site.
I can do same thing via sharepoint UI but not through program. When my programs runs it fetches all web parts been added on home page, then I need to iterate through each one and find report viewer web part.
While iterating, as soon as I arrive to report viewer web part it is named as "Error web part" with error message as
"Windows SharePoint Services cannot deserialize the Web Part. Check the format of the properties and try again"
If someone has a solution, please respond at your earlist.

Split A Decimal Number Into The Integer Part And The Fraction Part
Dec 7, 2007I have a table with a column named measurement decimal(18,1). If the value is 2.0, I want the stored proc to return 2 but if the value is 2.5 I want the stored proc to return 2.5. So if the value after the decimal point is 0, I only want the stored proc to return the integer portion. Is there a sql function that I can use to determine what the fraction part of the decimal value is? In c#, I can use
dr["measurement "].ToString().Split(".".ToCharArray())[1] to see what the value after the decimal is.
SQL 2012 :: Function With 2nd Part Working On Results 1st Part

What it does is convert numbers to times
E.g.: 81230 gets divided by 10 (times in seconds: 8123). This 1 1 full minute, and the remainder = 2123 making it 1.21.23 mins)
So far so good (function works perfectly)
My question: sometimes times are in 1/100 (like above sample), sometimes in 1/10.
This means that, e.g. with a time like 3.23.40 the last zero must be deleted.
My thoughts are to use the results from the Return Case part, and as the code = 4: leave it as it is,
is the code 2 the use LEFT(... result Return Case ..., Len(..result Return Case.. - 1))
There are 5 codes: 0 1 2 3 and 4
Migrating To Different Server Part II
Jun 28, 2001I have another question regarding migration process to diffrent SQL Server.
Last time when I did migration I didn't restore system databases (master in particular).
I only restored user databases and of course I've got login errors such
Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000) Error 15023: User or role '%s' already exists in the current database.
I just used sp_change_users_login to fix those orphans.
I've read articles in MS knowledge base and not quite sure is this a good idea to restore master database prior to restoring all user databases on the new server in order to keep all logins?
I'll try to use recommended article for transfering logins with password instead of restoring master database from backup

May 11, 2015Here is a sample order # we used for one of our shipments: BL-53151-24954-1-0001-33934
I need to extract the "24954" portion of that order # while within an INNER JOIN, but not sure how.
My problem is we have 2 order tables: OrderTable1 contains a field with the full order #. OrderTable2 contains a field with only the "24954" portion. I need to JOIN on these 2 fields somehow.
So an example would be the following:
OrderTable1.Full_Order_No: BL-53151-24954-1-0001-33934
OrderTable2.Order_No: 24954
SELECT
ot1.Full_Order_No
, ot2.Order_No

Few notes:

-The portion I need (24954) can be more or less than the 5 current digits.
-There will always be 6 portions to the order number, split up between 5 dashes.

Access To SQL Server Via WCF Works Only Part Time
May 16, 2007We have 2 databases ( Guider and Talker ) and we have a WCF service that is logged in with a domain identity.
In our SQL Server we have the service ID added to the Data Server Logins and both Guider and Talker are given access to the user.
When we access Guider we have no problems getting data.
When we access Talker we have a login failure:
Cannot open database 'Talker' requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'AcornCommunicationServices'.
The thing that gets me is that the user is created at the Server level, in both Databases, and at the server level both databases are checked for the user. master has been set as the default database for the user.
Basically, as far as I can see Talker and Guider are configured identically! So I cannot figure out why I cannot login to the second database!
Is there a specific setting I'm missing somewhere to grant login access to the user? I'm using
Management Studio Express to manage the database.

I'm currently running this query, it says it is altering 30,000 rows, but it doesn't look like it's doing anything at all..

I use IBM WebSphere Portal and am desperately trying to move data from the default Cloudspace Database to MS SQL Server 2005, of course following the official guidelines.
What happens is that WebSphere's Configuration Wizard fails because of an error caused by the SQL Script. Trouble is, I can't bring it to work not even in the SQL Server Management Studio.
What follows is the code generated by the script. The error is caused by the last "check"-constraint (colored in red).

Installing SQL Server 2005 Express As Part Of My Application
Jul 16, 2006I have found a lot of info on MS site regarding installing SQL Server 2005 Express as part of an application. I have found these articles to be extremely inaccurate or at best incomplete.
1. The documentation says all I need is the setup.exe from SQLEXP but this is not true.
2. When I do launch setup.exe during my app's install, it fails because setup.exe trys to run the support.msi. Of course this causes failure because my install is also an msi.
So, does anyone know how to install SQLEXPRESS as part of my app's install?

If I write a distributed query from SQL to DB2 I get mt data returned.
ie:

If I write a Query from SQL to DB2 using the 4-part naming convention linkserver.catalog.schema.object
then I also get my data returned.
ie:
select *
from MOVEX_EXTRANET.RCHASE5C.MVXADTA.OOLINE
My problem is with the Query Designer in SQL2007.
When I right click the first lot of code and select "Design query in editor"
The Designer GUI opens up and displays my table in graphical form with all columns selected - Great.
But When I repeat this for the code that uses the 4 part naming
The Designer opens up and displays the table but with no columns viewable or available for me to select ??
Anyone know what might be causing this to happen.
Is it a bug in SQL 2007 ??
I have tried linking the server using 2 types of providers ( One from Microsoft & one from IBM) but each time I still cannot see or choose columns in the designer using the 4part naming convention.
The 2 providers I tried where.
Microsoft OLE DB for ODBC Drivers.
IBM DB2 UDB for Iseries IBMDA400 OLE DB Provider
Any help greatly appretiated as I would really love to use the designer using 4part naming convention.

Trouble Installing SQL Server Express As Part Of Click Once Deployment

I've developed a desktop application for a company. It uses click once deployment and has a few prereqs: .NET Framework 2.0, j# .NET redistributable, windows installer 3.1 and SQL Server 2005 express edition.
Most of the time the application downloads and installs fine. However, one user has a problem. I'm fairly certain it's machine / OS related and I wonder if there is a way to get around it.
The user has a Windows 2000 machine, Pentium III, with 512 MB of RAM.
On their first try, they received an error while installing SQL Server 2005 Express. The error code the user found in the install log was 70095. Apparently the user found some information directing them to install the current MDAC 2.8 SP 1. After rebooting and trying the install again, it errored out. The new error code is 1706. Below is the install log.
As I said, I'm faily certain it's an OS issue, but I do hope there is a way around the issue other than trying to get the user to upgrade. If you need any other information, please let me know and I'll try to get it from the user.

Sep 30, 2005Hi all, How to package sql server database as part of our custom application (VB application) using install shield or any software. That setup should detect the presence of sql server. If sql server is not present in the client machine, then our set up should install the sql server and deploy our database. Aug 25, 2015There are 3 columns in the result set - part num, Qty and MO num. Each MO num has part numbers.So there might be same part numbers in MO's. Each part num has qty. So, if I group by part num, I get Qty.
1.There are duplicates of part.num and I want to remove duplicates and add quantities of those duplicates into one single quantity. For example, xxxx is a part num, then xxxx=1,xxxx=3,xxxx=5. I want xxxx=9. I want to sum those. Another question is, each MO has a user. I want to join user and MO num in MO.
Heres the code,

Select From Linked Server Using Join, The Multi-part Identifier Could Not Be Bound.

i am facing a bizarre problem, accessing data from a remote server which has been linked to my sql.
My SQL server is 2005 and the remote server is SQL 2000.
i have linked the remote server (called LinkedServer) so that when i run this query:
SELECT * FROM LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable
executes successfully! However, when i run a similar query like this:
SELECT Column1 AS Col1,
LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column2 as Col2,
Alias.Column3 as Col3
FROM LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable
INNER JOIN LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeOtherTable1 ON LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column3 = LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeOtherTable1.Column3
INNER JOIN LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeOtherTable2 AS Alias
ON LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column3 = Alias.Column3
It gives me this error:
The multi-part identifier "LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column2" could not be bound.
The multi-part identifier "LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column3" could not be bound.
I have noticed that this error is generated only for the selected columns whose path has either been repeated (e.g. "LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column2" as opposed to "Column2") or for columns which are from aliased tables.
What is going on?!?!?!??!?!?!

How do I achieve this in a CASE Statement?
The following two case statements return the correct results, but I some how need to combine them into a single Statement?
