Doesn't See DB Table

May 11, 2005

I'm having a tough time understanding my current problem and why I'm having it.

I'm using an ODBC db connection to connect to my sql server and trying
to insert data into a table I've created, but I keep getting an error
saying that the table doesn't exist. This is the first time I've
ever used ODBC and DSN to connect to a db so I don't konw if there are
qerks associated with this, but I've tried everything I can think
of. I've changed the name of the table, placed it in brackets,
placed "dbo" infront of the name, and still I get the same error about
the table not existing. My "Intial Catalog" in my connection
string is the correct db, I just can't seem to get it going.

Any suggestions?

SQL Server 2008 :: Insert From Table 1 To Table 2 Only If Record Doesn't Exist In Table 2?

I'm inserting from TempAccrual to VacationAccrual . It works nicely, however if I run this script again it will insert the same values again in VacationAccrual. How do I block that? IF there is a small change in one of the column in TempAccrual then allow insert. Here is my query

INSERT INTO vacationaccrual
(empno,
accrued_vacation,
accrued_sick_effective_date,
accrued_sick,

Table Doesn't Exist

Aug 29, 2001

hi i am running this program
and its giving some problem while execution.
When the program tries to create the table expt1..its says
Msg 2714, Level 16, State 1
There is already an object named 'expt1' in the database.

and if i try to drop the table expt1 it says
Msg 3701, Level 11, State 1
Cannot drop the table 'expt1', because it doesn't exist in the system catalogs.

How should I resolve this problem...?

LOAD TABLE With UNC Doesn't Work

Mar 28, 2000

Since I have to go across the network, I'm trying to use the UNC. However, this won't even work when I'm using the UNC to point to the server on which this is run. I'm trying to restore a single table on 6.5. What is the obvious piece that I'm missing?

This works.

LOAD TABLE address

WITH source='address'

This doesn't.

LOAD TABLE address

Copying A Table From One Database To Another Last Doesn't Appear The Same

Jul 20, 2005

In enterprise manager I am copying a table from one database toanother. I am using the dts wizard to import the data. After Isuccessfully import the data, I open both tables to compare therecords to make sure they are the same. I right click on a field andclick "last" for both tables. However, the record is different forboth. If I do a query the record is still there but they do not showup in the same order. Why does'nt the import wizard import therecords in the same order? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SSIS Doesn't Drop Table?

May 4, 2007

Hi,

I am trying to have my old DTS packages working on SSIS. The first basic package I have, simply copied all tables/views and sp from one database to another one, quite like a backup/restore.

I converted this DTS package onto dtsx, tried to run it in VS2005, and it appears that the package just bcp from source to destination without dropping the dest table first.

I have checked that the parameter dropObjectsFirst was set to 'true' and ExistingData was set to 'replace'.

From the profiler, it seems that the data is appended each time in the table.

I am sure there's a small workaround to make that package working!

thank you in advance,

Transact SQL :: Table Doesn't Get Update Through Job

Sep 28, 2015

I have following T-SQL statement:-

insert into [dbo].[tbl_FG_Alert_Count_All_Report] ([Date] ,[Count] ,[Rule Type])
   SELECT TOP 10 [Date]
      ,[Count]
      ,[Rule Type]
FROM [dbo].[tbl_FG_Alert_Count_All] where Count <>'0' and DATEDIFF(dy,date,GETDATE()) = 1 order by Date desc

When I ran this T-SQL statement in SSMS; I don't get any error and as expected, I can see new data in [dbo].

[tbl_FG_Alert_Count_All_Report] table.

Now I created one job with same T-SQL Statement. Job completes successfully with out giving any error message; But unfortunately I don't see any new data in [dbo].[tbl_FG_Alert_Count_All_Report] table. What would be the reason that I don't see new data when job completes successfully but I can see new data after executing same T-SQL statement in SSMS?

ADO Table Schema Doesn't Show Primary Key

Jan 8, 2007

I'm trying to use the following code to examine table schema for SQL 2000. But when I do, the IsKey value is null or blank. I tried this on two different tables - a State table with a char(2) primary key containing the state abbreviation and a Trend table which has an identity column as the primary key. Public Shared Function GetSchema(ByVal sTable As String) As String
Dim sb As New StringBuilder

Dim oConn As SqlConnection = OpenConn()
Dim cmd As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM " & sTable, oConn)
Dim dr As SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.SchemaOnly)

Dim dt As DataTable = dr.GetSchemaTable()

dr.Close()
oConn.Close()

For ic As Integer = 0 To dt.Columns.Count - 1
sb.Append(ic & ":" & CNull(dt.Columns(ic).ColumnName) & " ")
Next
sb.Append(vbCrLf)

For ir As Integer = 0 To dt.Rows.Count - 1
For ic As Integer = 0 To dt.Columns.Count - 1
sb.Append(ic & ":" & CNull(dt.Rows(ir).Item(ic).ToString) & " ")
Next
sb.Append(vbCrLf)
Next

Return sb.ToString
End Function

Truncate Temp Table Doesn't Work In Sp

Aug 2, 2000

hi,

I have a stored procedure to calculate the balance for a group of people. Inside the sp,
I created a temp table at the beginning of the procedure, then use it to calculate the opening
balance first, then I truncated the table in the middle, reuse it to calculate the closing balance.
The sp will take the from date and the through date to do the calculation. Somehow,
when I passed a different from date and the same through date to the sp, it returned a different
closing balance. It took me a while to figure out that the temp table I was using didn't get
truncated in the middle. I did a 'select count(*) ' directly after the truncate statement.
Sometimes it returned a non-zero number, and sometimes it returned 0.

We are using SQL 7.0 Service pack 1. Does anyone know the reason?

Transferring Data From One Table Where Doesn't Exist In One

Jul 10, 2014

I have TABLE1 and TABLE2

TABLE1 (ref,RESOURCE01,RESOURCE02,RESOURCE03,RESOURCE04,R ESOURCE05)

TABLE2 (ref,RESOURCE01,RESOURCE02,RESOURCE03,RESOURCE04,R ESOURCE05)

If TABLE2 has a data in resource 01-05 that isn't in resource01-05 of TABLE1 then I want to added it to the next free slot where ref is the unique key.

Note TABLE2 doesnt have to have all of TABLE1

eg if

TABLE1

01 AAA BBB
02 CCC DDD EEE
03 AAA DDD

TABLE2

01 AAA CCC
02 CCC DDD EEE FFF
03

I would like TABLE1 to be updated to appear like

TABLE1

01 AAA BBB CCC
02 CCC DDD EEE FFF
03 AAA DDD

Where do I even start here?

Trigger Doesn't Log Into The Audit Table If The Column Of Table Has Trigger On Is Null

Jan 23, 2008

Hi,

I have a trigger set on TABLE1 so that any update to this column should set off trigger to write to the AUDIT log table, it works fine otherwise but not the very first time when table1 has null in the column. if i comment out

and i.req_fname <> d.req_fname from the where clause then it works fine the first time too. Seems like null value of the column is messing things up

Any thoughts?

Here is my t-sql

Insert into dbo.AUDIT (audit_req, audit_new_value, audit_field, audit_user)

select i.req_guid, i.req_fname, 'req_fname', IsNull(i.req_last_update_user,@default_user) as username from inserted i, deleted d

where i.req_guid = d.req_guid

and i.req_fname <> d.req_fname

Using Return X In A Stored Procedure Doesn't Work With Table Adapters

Hi,

I was trying to create a simple SP that return a single value as follows:CREATE PROCEDURE IsListingSaved@MemberID INT,@ListingID INTASIF EXISTS (SELECT [Member_ID] FROM [Member_Listing_Link] WHERE [Member_ID] = @MemberID AND [Listing_ID] = @ListingID) Return 1ELSE Return 0GOWhen I try it out in the Tableadapter's preview table, I get the correct result (1, where the entries exist). However, in the BLL, I tried to get the value as:Dim intResult as IntegerintResult = CType(Adapter.IsListingSaved(intMemberID, intListingID), Integer). However, this always returns 0 (when it should be returning 1). P.S. Curiously, breakpoints skipped the VS generated code for the adapter. What could be the problem? Thanks,Wild Thing

Temporary Table In Stored Procedure Doesn't Work From SQLDataSource

Feb 20, 2008

I have a stored procedure with the following:

CREATE TABLE #t1 (... ...);

This stored procedure works fine in Management Studio.

I then use this stored procedure in an ASP.NET page via a SQLDataSource object. The ASP.NET code compiles without error, but the result returned is empty (my bounded GridView object has zero rows). From Web Developer, if I try to Refresh Schema on the SQLDATASource object, I get an error: "Invalid object name '#t1'. The error is at the red #1 as I tried putting something else at that location to confirm it.

What does the error message mean and what have I done wrong?

SQL Server 2008 :: When Renaming A Table / It Doesn't Rename Foreign Key Constraints

Sep 21, 2015

I'm working on creating a new version of an existing table. I want to keep the old table around, only with a different name. In looking this up I found there's a system routine named sp_rename, which looks like it will work fine. However in thinking about this I realized that the foreign key constraints defined on the table (there's 3 of them) are likely to not be renamed, correct?

If I'm correct, then I suppose I could rename the table, then drop the 3 foreign key constraints, and create them new using different names for those foreign key constraints.

Slowly Changing Dimension Wizard Doesn't Display Destination Table Primary Key Column

Feb 22, 2006

I have added a Slowly Changing Dimension transformation to an SSIS package and have launched the Wizard to edit it. After selecting the source (a SQL Server 2005 instance), if I select a very large table (9+ million rows), I'm encountering two strange behaviors:
1. The wizard hangs for several minutes before displaying the columns from that table.
2. The wizard does not display the primary key column. This, of course, is the column I want to designate as the "business key", but can't because it's not displayed.
I know this is more like a fact table than a dimension, but this is not a data warehouse. This is just a very large table, and I need to update a field in certain records based on the contents of a source text file. Is there another transformation I should use to perform updates?

Sorry! I forgot that Recurring schedules do not work until the start-time is reached. If you change the start-time the schedule becomes inactive. So I created a second schedule to cover the hole!

IIF Doesn't Work

Nov 10, 2004

This is probably very simple, but I can't get passed this problem.

I have a report in MS Access that uses info generated by a query. One of the text fields in the query contains either the word 'Select' or the name of a course.
The report should display a space if the value is 'Select', or the actual value of the field in any other case. The field can never contain a null value.

I've used:
=IIf([optVoc1]="Select","",[optVoc1])
in the text box on the report, but this only returns #error regardless of the actual content of the field.

What am I doing wrong?

Sql Job Doesn't Work

Aug 27, 2004

Hi all,

I create and schedule a SQL job to run every minute to update a table base on certain condition but it doesn't work. Job history says successful every time but the table doesn't get updated.

However if I move it to Query Analyzer and run it under dba, it will work. Thinking that it may have to do with the user the job run as, I then change run as user from self to dba. But still SQL job won't update my table.

Anything about user permission or security that I can check? Or it there any other possibility?

TIA

ADO Doesn't Retrieve Value From This Sp..why?

May 12, 2004

Hi, all.
I tried to get result of sp.
Dim rst As Recordset
Set rst = New ADODB.Recordset
rst.Open sp, cnn

doesn't get result.
when i call rst.EOF, it thows error: Can do this since rst is closed...

I found it's problem of sp which is little complex.
But, still I think it should work!
My question is how can I get the returned value from following sp in VB?

--- return list of tables that needed to update
--- list is one string separated by '&' delimeter
--- @listOfUpdateTime: [TableName=UpdateTime]&[...] eg) tblDeptList=12/25/2004&tblHoliday=12/24/2004&...
CREATE procedure spGetListOfTableToDownLoad
@listOfUpdateTime varchar(500)
as
SET NOCOUNT ON
Declare @listOfTable varchar(300), @item varchar(300)
Declare @tbl varchar(50), @uptime datetime
Declare @list varchar(500)
Declare @sep varchar(1)
SET @list = ''
SET @sep = '&'
DECLARE cur CURSOR FAST_FORWARD FOR
SELECT * FROM fnSplit(@listOfUpdateTime, @sep)

OPEN cur

FETCH NEXT
FROM cur
INTO @item

Declare @re bit, @tp varchar(50)
WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
BEGIN

-- get tablename, update time
Declare cur2 CURSOR FAST_FORWARD FOR
SELECT * FROM fnSplit(@item, '=')
OPEN cur2
FETCH NEXT FROM cur2 INTO @tbl
Print @tbl
FETCH NEXT FROM cur2 INTO @tp
print 'tp:' + @tp
SET @uptime = CAST(@tp as datetime)
print @uptime
-- @re =1: true, 0: false
EXEC spIsUpdate @tbl, @uptime, @re output
IF @re = 1
SET @list = @list + @tbl + @sep
CLOSE cur2
DEALLOCATE cur2

FETCH NEXT
FROM cur
INTO @item
END
if LEN(@list) > 0
SET @list = LEFT(@list, Len(@list)-Len(@sep))
CLOSE cur
DEALLOCATE cur

SELECT @list as Result

SET NOCOUNT OFF

GO

This problem is on SQL Server development box.
SS 2K standard edition
SP3
3071 MB

SQL job doesn't start nor write on the view history. I have comfirm this by creating a new job with query and run it manually or schedule automatic run.

select * from sysdatabases

It points to database master and using the same account sql server agent uses it to start. This account has sys admi rights. I have check for blocking but thre is not.
