Jan 16, 2003What data type in SQL server can be used in place of a double data type?? I don't even know what a double data type is but got a request to create a column with a data type of double.

Converting A Data Type Double To A Type Float Using A Data Adapter && SSCE 3.5

I can populate a dataTable with type double (C#) of say '1055.01' however when I save these to the CE3.5 database using a float(CE3.5) I lose the decimal portion. The 'offending' code is:

This did not happen with VS2005/CE3.01.
I have tried changing all references to decimal (or money in CE3.5) without luck.
I'm beginning to think that string may be the way to go!!!!!!!

It's necessary to update the datatable adapter as the 3.01 and 3.5 CE are not compatible.

SQL Server 2008 :: DOUBLE Precision For Calculations / Convert To Double?
May 19, 2011I am performing a series of calculations where accuracy is very important, so have a quick question about single vs double precision variables in SQL 2008.
I'm assuming that there is an easy way to cast a variable that is currently stored as a FLOAT as a DOUBLE prior to these calculations for reduced rounding errors, but I can't seem to find it.
I've tried CAST and CONVERT, but get errors when I try to convert to DOUBLE.
For example...
SELECT CAST(1.0/7.0 AS FLOAT)
SELECT CONVERT(FLOAT, 1.0/7.0)
both give the same 6 decimal place approximation, and the 6 decimals make me think this is single precision.
But I get errors if I try to change the word FLOAT to DOUBLE in either one of those commands...
SELECT CAST(1.0/7.0 AS DOUBLE)
gives "Incorrect syntax near )"
SELECT CONVERT(DOUBLE, 1.0/7.0)
gives "Incorrect syntax near ,"
DB Engine :: Double Row Added From A Source Table That Did Not Have Double Record
Aug 28, 2014Every night we connect to a remote server using Linked Server and copy details from that database to a loading table, then load it into the 'real' table in our own environment. The remove database we load it from has indexes/primary keys that match the 'real', however the 'loading' table itself does not have any indexes or primary keys, both are SQL Server 2005 machines.
In the loading table we first of all truncate it then do a select insert statement from the remote server, then we then truncate the 'real' table and load iit from the 'loading' table.
The issue is when we attempted to load it into our 'real' table from our loading table there was a duplicate row, and our process failed with a Primary Key violation.
I checked the source with does have the same primary key's in, it did not contain a duplicate row and I checked the loading table and that did contain a duplicate row.
My question this is in what circumstances this could happen ?

Dec 14, 2005After testing out the application i write on the local pc. I deploy it to the webserver to test it out. I get this error.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The conversion of a char data type to a
datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.
Notes: all pages that have this error either has a repeater or datagrid which load data when page loading.
At first I thought the problem is with the date, but then I can see
that some other pages that has datagrid ( that has a date field) work
just fine.
anyone having this problem before?? hopefully you guys can help.

COnverting Numeric Data Type (Oracle) To Date Data Type Using SSIS
Mar 7, 2007We have some columns in a table where the date is stored as 19980101 (YYYYMMDD). The data type for this column is NUMBER(8) in Oracle.
I need to copy rows from Oracle to SQL Server using SSIS. I used the Data Conversion transformation editor to change it to DT_DATE, but the rows are not being inserted to the destination.
On Error, If I fail the component, then the error is :
There was an error with input column "ORDER_DATE_CONV" (1191) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (29). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".

Convert Text Data Type To Smalldatetime Data Type
Oct 9, 2007I have a field that is currently stored as the data type nvarchar(10), and all of the data in this field is in the format mm/dd/yyyy or NULL. I want to convert this field to the smalldatetime data type. Is this possible?
I've tried to use cast in the following way, (rsbirthday is the field name, panelists is the table), but to no avail.
SELECT rsbirthday CAST(rsbirthday AS smalldatetime)
FROM panelists
the error returned is "incorrect syntax near 'rsbirthday'.
I'm rather new to all things SQL, so I only have the vaguest idea of what I'm actually doing.

Asp.net 2, Sql2005, Double Data Rows
Sep 28, 2006I'm stumped. When using the classic asp page, the table produced on the web has 4 rows. But, when using the asp.net 2.0 side against the same stored proc, I get double the rows - 8. However, when I pull from the sql table directly there are only 4 rows. Any ideas? Trouble Importing Data With Double Quotes
Jul 23, 2007I have to import a flat file with commas and double quotes as the text qualifier in a SSIS package. However, when I try to import the data into a table, the data moves the information to right, therefore, the last field will capture mulitple fields worth of data. When I create the Connection Manager for the flat file, I have the format as [Delimited] and Text qualifier as ["]. I do not check the unicode button, but under Advanced, make each field a Unicode string [DT-WSTR]. I have included a sample of my data below.
"Internal Sales Document ",9/23/2005 0:00,0.58,"STORES ISSUES","TAPE, PACKING, 2" X 55 YD, CLE ","EP0079771","US363800","2065431980"

Bulk Insert Task Failing On Data Type Conversion For A Destination Column Of Type Bit
Jul 6, 2006I am trying to use the Bulk Insert Task to load from a csv file. My final column is a bit that is nullable. My file is an ID column that is int, a date column that is mm/dd/yyy, then 20 columns that are real, and a final column that is bit. I've tried various combinations of codepage and datafiletype on my task component. When I have RAW with Char, I get the error included below. If I change to RAW/Native or codepage 1252, I don't have an issue with the bit; however, errors start generating on the ID and date columns.
I have tried various data type settings on my flat file connection, too. I have tried DT_BOOL and the integer datatypes. Nothing seems to work.
I hope someone can help me work through this.

This code works fine on my local machine and local SQL server. However at the client side this code results in the error as mentioned in the subject of this thread. I first used 'datetime.now' instead of 'getdate()', but that caused the same error. Then I changed the code to 'getdate()', but the error still remains.
The server at the client is running Windows Server 2000 UK . My local machiine is running WIndows XP Dutch.
Maybe the conversion from Dutch to UK has something to do with it. But this should be solved by using the 'Getdate()' function..... ?
Storing A Money Data Item (in SQL Server) In A Double SSIS Variable

I have a table in SQL Server with following spec

I have a SSIS variable called grosstot of type double and use following sql in Execute SQL task in SSIS
Select Sum(Grossamount) from Table1
I then assign the result of above sql stmt to the SSIS variable grosstot within the same Execute SQL task.
it gives me the error :
[Execute SQL Task] Error: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "grosstot ": "The type of the value being assigned to variable "User::grosstot " differs from the current variable type. Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object. ".
I tried the following sql to no avail

Can anyone tell me why the SELECT ... FOR XML PATH... seems only to work with ADO.NET connections?

I am stuck with a SSIS package and I can€™t work out. Let me know what steps are the correct in order to solve this.
At first I have just a Flat File Source and then Script Component, nothing else.
