Mar 11, 2015I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:
We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.
Download Database To Local And Use
May 7, 2006I have SQL database hosted by my ISP. Every now and again we log on and create new tables using user XXX1. After getting a backup of the database, I have restored it on my local machine. When running the application on local, I get an error because there is a new user in database called XXX1.
I would like to change the user from XXX1 to dbo on my local machine for all tables, stored procedures and views. How do I do this easily?

Everything is working fine on my local computer but when i published the web site on a remote computer i get the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed" (only in pages that try to access the database)

How Can Users Download Cubes To Their Local Machines?

I read in oneof the articles somewhere that users can also download cubes to their local machines for off-line browsing/analysis. This can be very useful if the user is suppose away from the office or not connected to the LAN.
I wanted to request if someone can explain the process of how users can do this i.e. download/save a copy of the cube to their local machines?

SQL Server 2012 :: Local SSIS Package Run And Export Data Except In Job
Jun 23, 2014Using server 2012 on local machine, I created an SSIS package that will execute in integrated services and Visual Studio solution but will not work when creating a job. Other solutions work well except when exporting data. The program pulls data from query and exports into .csv file. The messages I get are -
Data flow task 1:error:destination- Stage.csv failed the pre-execute phase and returned code 0xC020200E
and
Data flow task 1:error:Cannot open the datafile "pathStage.csv".

Mar 1, 2008I am trying to use a new Excel microsoft add-in using SQL server 2005. I installed the 180 day trial version of SQL Server 2005 on my local machine and according to the instructions it was suppose to be very easy to connect the excel add in to SQL. I am receiving an error message which I cannot find a resolution to using the readme file and wonder if you can help.
ERROR MESSAGE
Unable to connect to server 'localhost'. Please make sure user 'ARTIMUS' has at least read permission to some database on the server.

Connecting To Local SQL Server With Third Party Software (EMS Data Export)

I'm currently running a SQL Server 2005 setup (or so I believe) to use Windows Authentication. When I load Management Studio, the following popup box appears:
Server Type (greyed out): Database Engine
Server Name: Thor
Authentication: Wndows Authentication
U/N and P/W: greyed out
I can connect to my databases using PHP by specifying 'Thor' as my DB host, the DB name and then the username and password of a user I created.
The problem is that I cannot connect to my local server using EMS Data Export 2005 for SQL Server. I can use it to connect to a remote SQL DB on our web server but if I try to connect locally, it generates an error saying that the 'SQL Server does not exist or access denied'.
Does anyone have any experience with connecting to a local SQL server? I'm assuming that I need to setup my server to allow for external connections or something but I'm in the dark on the matter.
Any help would be very appreciated!

Local SQL Server Instances Not Showing Up On Local Servers Tab Of Management Studio Logon Screen
Oct 2, 2007We have a 64-bit VM server running SQL Server 2005. The SQL Server on this particular VM server has 6 local instances installed. On the Management Studio logon screen I can type the full name of the local instance and connect to it, however if I press the drop down in the Server name field, choose Browse and select the Local Servers tab there is nothing listed under Database Engines.
Any idea why the 6 local instances don't show up under Database Engines? This is preventing me from installing a vendor application because their installer looks for local SQL Server instances on this server, but if SQL Server won't even show the local instances then the installer doesn't see them either.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mar 28, 2008I just upgraded my Sql Server to 2008 and I was hoping that the link found in this page would provide the download to SSMSE for Sql Server 2008, but it redirects me to 2005 version. I don't any instances running with Sql Server 2005 that I could access through SSMSE 2005, so I can't use it. Does anyone have the link for download to SSMSE 2008? Or should I downgrade? And if, how can I downgrade?

Jul 10, 2007I have created and deployed my first report. It renders fine for me and the other database admin. When others attempt to view it, we get the error
Query execution failed for data set 'periods'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand), For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
Initially, We created a local group on the machine that hosts both the database and webserver and added the individuals to that group. Then, within SRS Report manager, we added that group to the Browswer role of the report.
The error message was slightly different, in that it couldn't even open the Datasource.
We then added an individual to the database as dbreader, and got the above message. It apprently is starting to render, and when it encounters the first query (dataset "periods", which populates a drop down list for a parameter), it chokes. BTW, the Periods dataset executes a stored procedure dbo.Period_List that has no parameters. It returns a list of reporting periods.
I could not figure out how to "enable remote errors" or find an error log on the server. The C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesLogFiles Log files did not appear to record any errors.
Please advise!

Do you know how can do for downloading a file stored in a database?. I'm using a table with a FILE field for storing the file.
I know i have to create a special aspx page for downloading, that receives parameters to locate the proper record in the table and then retrieve the file in memory to start downloading.
I have done this with file located at specific folders but not a database's field.
Another thing... the file may be big.
Dou you have any idea about retrieving from sql and sending the file back to the final user?

I am confused ...downloaded Microsoft SQL server 2005 (for reporting services) to my Windows 2002 (32-bit systems), but it asks me to install the service packs as well...
So Windows XP Service Pack 2 is already installed.
And I need to download Windows server 2000 or 2003 R2, but where could I find a free trial version?
Do I also need Asp.net and IIS?
I would be very grateful for some help... to clarify which components needed.

Jul 17, 2007We are needing to apply the Sql Server 2000 Service Pack 1 to a computer that will replace the current server. The SP 1 listed in the technet sql server 2000 service packs page, is unavailable on the download center.
Where can I download the SP 1?
PS. We can't apply a superior patch, since we can't afford any risks related to the upgrade during the limited time window allowed for the migration.
