Driving SSIS Packages From ASP.NET Web Services...is It Thread-safe?

Jun 10, 2007

Our application drives SSIS packages from ASP.NET web services. To alleviate some of the package load time overhead application caches SSIS Application object and several instances of "pre-loaded" packages in ASP.NET Application context. As needed the code uses cached SSIS Application instance to execute "pre-loaded" packages. Is this thread-safe?

Is @@rowcount And Scope_identity() Thread Safe?

Hopefully this is the right forum! Im guessing they both are since they return the values pertaining to the current scope. I don't want to use transactions when I dont have to. What do you guys think?

Thread Safe Question On Insert

Sep 5, 2007

Assume in a table, I have a table structure which contains parentID and childID.

In my procedure to insert a child for example, I begin a transaction, do a select statement see how many children for the given parentID, if is more than 10 then don't insert , otherwise insert the new child in. Then commit the transaction.

I wonder how thread safe such code would be... Quite worry about data corruption.

If 2 threads both updating this table, and the select statement both return 9 children, so both of them think they can do the insert, so the parent will end up with 11 children. Is such scenario possible to occur? If so, how to solve it and make sure the code is thread safe?

Hope someone can give me some suggestions..

Thank you

Integration Services :: Remotely Execute Packages On SSIS Server - Packages Are Deployed In File System

Apr 22, 2015

We manage some SSIS servers, which has only SSIS and SSIS tools installed on them and not the sql server DB.

SSIS packages and configuration files are deployed on a NAS. We run the SSIS packages through DTEXEC by logging in to the server.

We want to allow developers to run their packages on their own on the server, but at the same time we dont want to give them physical access on the server i.e we do not want to add them into RDP users list on server properties. We want them to allow running their packages remotely on the server.

One way We could think of is by using powershell remoting and we are working on that. But is there any other way or any tool already present for the same.

Jun 12, 2015

I am currently moving everything from SQL Server 2005 SP2 to SQL Server 2012. I have a method for getting users, logins, roles and SQL jobs. But I also have to get copy all of the SSIS packages from 2005 to 2012. I know I can go to the 2012 SQL Server and click on the MSDN folder and choose import. However, this only enables me to import one package at a time. I have 95 packages. Is there a way to get them all from the 2005 SQL Server to the 2012 SQL Server in one shot? I am not a SQL developer nor am I a DBA but I have been assigned this task.

Integration Services :: How To Run SSIS Packages From Different Projects In Sequence

May 19, 2015

I have a SSIS package that needs to run before another SSIS package.

At the moment I have deployed it to the SSISDB, and have set up parameters to enable it run on the right server.

I have not yet experimented with SQL Agent yet, but based on what I have read, it is not possible to do so.

What is the best way to schedule these 2 jobs to run one after the other on a periodic basis using the correct environment and variables set up?

I thought about importing one package into the other, but this creates a copy and any changes to the original will not be replicated.

Calling SSIS Packages From ASP.NET - Packages With File System Tasks End Abruptly

Jan 9, 2007

I've run into a problem with SSIS packages wherein tasks that write or copy files, or create or delete directories, quit execution without any hint of an error nor a failure message, when called from an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on any other machine than the one where the package was created from. By all indications it appeared to be an identity/permissions problem.

Our application involves a separate web server and database server. Both have SQL Server 2005 installed, but the application server originally only had Integration services. The packages are file system-deployed on the application server, and are called using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime methods. For all packages that involve file system tasks, the above problem occurs.

When the above packages are run using the command prompt (either DTEXEC or DTEXECUI) the packages execute just fine. This is expected since we are using an administrative account. However when a ShellExecute of the same command is called from ASP.NET, the same problem occurs.

I've tried giving administrative permissions to the ASPNET worker process user to no avail.

I have likewise attempted to use the SQL Server Agent job approach but that approach might not be acceptable for our clients since it means installing SQL Server 2005 Database services on the application server.

I have read the relevant threads in this forum, namely http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1044739&SiteID=1 and http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=927084&SiteID=1 but failed to find any solution appropriate for our set up.

Anybody got any idea on how to go about this?

Moving Files (split From An Existing Thread-SSIS Equivalent To DTS Transform Data Task Properties)

May 7, 2007

Hi JayH (or anyone). Another week...a new set of problems. I obviously need to learn .net syntax, but because of project deadlines in converting from DTS to SSIS it is hard for me to stop and do that. So, if someone could help me some easy syntax, I would really appreciate it.

In DTS, there was a VBScript that copied a set of flat files from one directory to an archive directory after modifying the file name. In SSIS, the directory and archive directory will be specified in the config file. So, I need a .net script that retrieves a file, renames it and copies it to a different directory.

Linda

Here is the old VBScript Code:

Public Sub Main()

Option Explicit

Function Main()

Dim MovementDataDir

Dim MovementArchiveDataDir

Dim MovementDataFile

Dim MovementArchiveDataFile

Dim FileNameRoot

Dim FileNameExtension, DecimalLocation

Dim CurMonth, CurDay

Dim FileApplicationDate

Dim fso ' File System Object

Dim folder

Dim FileCollection

Dim MovementFile

'======================================================================

'Create text strings of today's date to be appended to the archived file.

FileApplicationDate = Now

CurMonth = Month(FileApplicationDate)

CurDay = Day(FileApplicationDate)

If Len(CurMonth) = 1 Then

CurMonth = "0" & CurMonth

End If

If Len(CurDay) = 1 Then

CurDay = "0" & CurDay

End If

FileApplicationDate = CurMonth & CurDay & Year(FileApplicationDate)

'=====================================================================

' Set the movement data directory from the global variable.

MovementDataDir = DTSGlobalVariables("gsMovementDataDir").Value

MovementArchiveDataDir = DTSGlobalVariables("gsMovementDataArchiveDir").Value

fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")

folder = fso.GetFolder(MovementDataDir)

FileCollection = folder.Files

' Loop through all files in the data directory.

For Each MovementFile In FileCollection

' Get the full path name of the current data file.

MovementDataFile = MovementDataDir & "" & MovementFile.Name

' Get the full path name of the archive data file.

MovementArchiveDataFile = MovementArchiveDataDir & "" & MovementFile.Name

DecimalLocation = InStr(1, MovementArchiveDataFile, ".")

FileNameExtension = Mid(MovementArchiveDataFile, DecimalLocation, Len(MovementArchiveDataFile) - DecimalLocation + 1)

FileNameRoot = Mid(MovementArchiveDataFile, 1, DecimalLocation - 1)

MovementArchiveDataFile = FileNameRoot & "_" & FileApplicationDate & FileNameExtension

If (fso.FileExists(MovementDataFile)) Then

fso.CopyFile(MovementDataFile, MovementArchiveDataFile)

' If the archive file was coppied, then delete the old copy.

If (fso.FileExists(MovementArchiveDataFile)) Then

fso.DeleteFile(MovementDataFile)

End If

End If

Next

fso = Nothing

folder = Nothing

FileCollection = Nothing

Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success

End Function

Xp_sendmail Driving Me Mad !

Jan 11, 2002

Has anyone else noticed that if you create a non-existing file as an attachment using xp_sendmail in SQL Server 2000, it does not create a copy of that file on the Hard Drive, nor does it format the attached file sensibly if you attach it as a .csv file ?

I am using the procedure below :-

CREATE PROCEDURE mailtest AS

declare @sql varchar (255)

SELECT PERSONID, FORENAME, SURNAME INTO ##TEMP FROM PERSON

SELECT @sql='SELECT * FROM ##TEMP'

IF @@ROWCOUNT > 0

begin

exec master.dbo.xp_sendmail
@recipients = 'itsmarkdavies@hotmail.com',
@Message = 'Test file',
@Query = @sql,
@attachments = 'C:MARKTEST.CSV',
@Attach_Results = 'True',
@Message = '',
@Subject = 'test',
@No_Header = 'True',
@Width = 500,
@Separator = ','

end
DROP TABLE ##TEMP
GO

In the example above, the file MARKTEST.CSV does not currently exist, but the procedure should create it, put it in the root of C: and e:mail it, as it did when it ran under SQL Server 6.5. However, under 2000 it now doesn`t put a copy on the Hard Drive and it formats the .csv file in a very odd manner.

SSIS Packages

Aug 24, 2006

I am writing a vb application that is supposed to let the users set the connection string for the datasources in the package. After new connection strings are entered the application is supposed to run 8 packages in a certain order, but I haven't been able to set a new connection string successfully. Is there a way to programmatically modify the connection string of a package's datasource? (the packages are moving data from a D3 database to sql server 2005)

Here is what I have tried so far:

A.
Dim pkgLocation As String
Dim app As Application = New Application()
pkgLocation = "c:Package1.dtsx"
Dim pkg As Package = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, Nothing)
Dim myConns As Connections = pkg.Connections

MessageBox.Show(myConns(0).ID.ToString)
Dim myConnMgr As ConnectionManager = myConns(0)
Dim connProperties As DtsProperties = myConnMgr.Properties

connProperties(0).SetValue(myConnMgr, "notsupposed=towork;")
MessageBox.Show(myConnMgr.ConnectionString)

B.
ConMgr = p.Connections.Add("OLEDB")

ConMgr.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Data Source=192.168.0.233; User ID=sa; Initial Catalog=Rmt_New"
ConMgr.Name = "SqlDatabase"
ConMgr.Description = "Sql Connection"

Any help would appreciated.

Can't Seem To Run SSIS Packages On The 64 Bit...

Feb 28, 2006

I am connecting to a DB2 mainframe to pull data into SQL 2005. Very simple import. SSIS package works fine on 32 bit. However, once deployed to the 64 bit machine, I get "invalid product license" on the Acquire Connection method.

I've worked with IBM support. I have the correct version of the DB2 Connect client installed. The license is there and in the right place. I can connect to the mainframe from the 64 bit server using the DB2 client tools. I just can't seem to execute the package from Integration Services or run a job in SQL Server that executes the package.

According to BOL, the package should automatically detect the 64 client I installed. It and the 32 bit client I developed with share the same name/id.

Am I missing something? Any hints?

DTS Packages In SSIS

Sep 15, 2006

I read in Kirk Haselden's book "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Integration Services" that if SQL Serfver 2005 and 2000 are installed on the same machine as seperate instances then you can view the SQL Server 2000 DTS packages in 2005 Management Studio under the Management tree, Legacy, Data Transformation Services node.

But in my case, I am not able to see DTS packages in Management Studio. Is there a property or a setting that we need to configure for that?

Thanks.

CURSOR Is Driving Me Insane!!

Jan 13, 2007

We have a tree structure containing section names.  Each node is a
section name and each section can have subsections.  I have to copy the
tree structure but need to maintain the parent-child relationship
established within the id / parent_id fields.  How do i acheive this?For example i have the treeSection 1   |-Section 1.1Section 2   |-Section 2.1The
"Section" table contains 3 fields: id, parent_id, and caption.  ID is
the identity of the section record and parent_id contains NULL or the
ID of this record's parent to create a child.  So "Section 1" (id=1,
parent_id=null), "Section 2" (id=2, parent_id=null), "Section 1.1"
(id=3, parent_id=1), "Section 2.1" (id=4,parent_id=2).I would
like to copy this sucture to create 4 new sections but they need to
maintain their id/parent_id relationships BUT with new IDs.  For this i
created the following stored procedure:----------------CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[CopySection] AS     -- Declare a temporary variable table for storing the sections     DECLARE @tblSection TABLE     (          id int,          parent_id int,          caption varchar(max),     )     DECLARE @newAgendaID int, @newSectionID int;     DECLARE     @tid int, @tparent_id int, @tcaption varchar(max);BEGIN     -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from     -- interfering with SELECT statements.     SET NOCOUNT ON;     -- Copy the desired sections into the local temp variable table     INSERT INTO @tblSection SELECT id, parent_id, caption FROM tblSection ORDER BY parent_id;     -- Using a cursor, step through all temp sections and add them to the tblSection but note its new ID     DECLARE c1 CURSOR FOR SELECT * FROM @tblSection ORDER BY parent_id FOR UPDATE OF parent_id;     OPEN c1;     FETCH NEXT FROM c1 INTO @tid, @tparent_id, @tcaption;     WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0     BEGIN                   -- Insert the new Section and record the identity          INSERT INTO tblSection (agenda_id, parent_id, caption) VALUES (@tparent_id, @tcaption);           SET @newSectionID = SCOPE_IDENTITY();          -- Update the temp variable table with the new identity from the newly created real section in tblSection                -- Update all temp variable records to point to the new parent_id          UPDATE @tblSection SET parent_id = @newSectionID WHERE parent_id = @tid;          FETCH NEXT FROM c1 INTO @tid, @tparent_id, @tcaption;     END     CLOSE c1     DEALLOCATE c1     END----------------The
critical "UPDATE @tblSection" part doesnt seem to update the temp
variable table with the @newSectionID (the actual section identity
obtained after inserting a real record into the tblSection table).  So
in the end the inserted records into tblSection still point to the
incorrect parent_id instead of the copied record's parent_id.Maybe I'm using CURSOR incorrectly or not setting a parameter so that it refreshes its recordset?  I've tried using both table variables and temp tables but no luck.

Sp_processmail - Driving Me Nuts!

Apr 2, 2004

I have two different SQL server installations (7 and 2000) that I have configured for using the SP_processmail procedure. Both servers can properly execute xp_startmail, xp_stopmail, xp_readmail, and xp_findnextmsg. HOWEVER, both have different problems with SP_processmail.

Using this command (and a host of many other variations):
sp_processmail @filetype = 'CSV', @separator = ',', @dbuse = 'ryantest', @set_user = 'guest'

SQL 7.0 says: Server: Msg 18007, Level 16, State 1, Line 0
Supplied datatype for @set_user is not allowed, expecting 'varchar'

I have tried every variation possible, including not specifying the yser which should result in it defaulting to the "guest" account. The message is always the same.

SQL 2000 says: Server: Msg 18025, Level 16, State 1, Line 0
xp_sendmail: failed with mail error 0x80004005
Queries processed: 0.

I have checked all my configurations and read every KB article - I can't find anything wrong.

Can someone PLEASE respond if you have any experience with SP_PROCESSMAIL on your servers.

Thanks in advance.
