Drop Login Issues

I'm trying to drop logins from my server and anytime, I try to drop them. system gives me Msg 15175. Login XYZ is aliased or mapped to a user in one or more databases. Drop the users or alias first. I dont want to go to database and drop the user and then come back and drop the login. Why doesnt it do that in one short?
Can anybody please help me with that?

Jun 22, 2007I've got a Windows login, which I cannot drop. I have checked about everything I can think of and can't find a connection to this user. Is there a script which anyone has which will list all object referencing this users? SQL 2005 ENT x64. It's a windows domain user.

Drop And Add A Sql Server Login Account To Each User Database

I would like to write code to delete and add a SQL Login to every User database on my development server.
Whenever I restore databases to dev using production backups the SQl Server logins are invalid and I need to delete them from the user database and add them again.
I've already hard-coded a sql server job with n steps... a step for each user database to drop and add this sql user to each database. This isn't optimal since I have to add or delete a step everytime a user database is added or deleted.
Does anyone know how to write a loop or cursor that does this dynamically?
I am doing something syntactically wrong related to the GO statement.

Unable To Drop Login Due To Existing Event Notification

I am unable to drop the above login. The error is Error:15141 The server principal owns an event notification and cannot be dropped.
I have looked in the table sys.server_event_notifications and there are rows returned that have a server_principal_id of the user I am trying to drop. No events have been created on this server, so I am assuming these notifications are either created by default or are somehow related to Database Mail?
All the event notifications belong to service name "SQL/Notifications/ProcessWMIEventProviderNotification/v1.0" and begin with SQLWEP (i.e. SQLWEP_RECHECK_SUBSCRIPTIONS, SQLWEP_B415ADB8_A604_4057_976F_600002FA5AF6). How can I find out what these are for and how they were created?
What purpose do these event notifications have? Is there some syntax to change the owner of these event notifications so I can successfully drop the login? If the only way is to directly update the system view, is this safe and what repercussions could this have?

Last time I recieved this error I had to add ASPNet, NTAuthority, and myWebSiteUsers USERS under the database properties-->permissions setting for the specific database I am trying to access with the website but this database(QuoteSystem) does not lists any of these objects so I can add them. Does anybody know what I have to do to fix this?

I was trying to drop a table (or alter it in any way) and the Managment Studio Express gave me an error of timeout. So I say something like DROP TABLE myTable, and it takes a while and gives me the error. Does anybody know how to unlock a table?

DDL Trigger And Drop Table Causes Error
Jul 24, 2007I have a DDL Trigger that writes a record into a table when any DDL event happens.
It works great except when I try dropping any object. I get an error at that point and the object is not dropped. The trigger and error are listed below.

Alter Table Drop Column Error
Apr 11, 20011. We have user defined type (Sql type = bit ) with rule setting it to 0
2. New column(isVIP) was created using this user defined type
3. sp_unbindrule was used to unbind rule from new column (isVIP)

Solution Explorer Drag/drop Error?
Feb 19, 2007I've submitted a bug report for this, but I also want to be sure it's not my own installation.
In the solution explorer, when I drag a package (usually accidentally) to another spot in the list, it disappears from the list. If I try to re-add the package, it thinks the original already exists, and names the second one with a "(1)" suffix. I can work around this by moving the original package out of the primary package folder and then re-adding it through solution explorer, but that's a touch cumbersome.
I don't really have a question here other than perhaps validation of the issue. Thanks.

I am trying to drop replication off a database, and funny enough went trough all the steps and I am still getting the error when I try to Disable publishing.
I also did an EXEC sp_removedbreplication 'databasename'
Any ideas?
SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Error - Cannot Drop Database Because It Is Currently In Use
Oct 29, 2015I have an environment with MS-SQL Server 2014 and always-on availability group configured (on 2-nodes).
I'm writing a Powershell Script which removes the database from the availability group (on the primary server) and then SHOULD drop the database on the secondary Server.
That works most of the time, but not always...
When it fails I get the error message:
Cannot drop database "Customer_2" because it is currently in use.
When i check the secondary DB-Server (sp_who2) while the script is running, i see that there is a process for the DB "Customer_2" with Status="background", Command="DB STARTUP" and LastWaitType="REDO_THREAD_PENDING WORK".
As soon as the script fails, this process for "Customer_2" disapears.
This happens always only on the second database in the availability group.
Why is the process still there, even after I removed the database from the Availability Group on the primary node.
If I remove the database from the availability group manually, the "background" process on the secondary node for that database disappears..

Jun 15, 2006I'm trying to install the Eval copy of SQL Server 2005 on a Win2k Server computer. The error message that
"The drop location is missing file(s) that allow setup to determine how a multi instance product should be installed. Setup cannot continue, please repair the drop and try again."
Has anyone seen this error? any ideas?

Dynamic Drop-down Parameters In Custom .net Web Page Error

I created one report with 5 dynamic drop down parameters. The first parameter is passed from URL and the other's parameter drop downs should get populated based on the first one. These 4 parameters default to some value which I defined.
Everything is working fine in the Report Manager but when the report is integrated in a web page I am getting some problems.
After the drop-downs are populated and the user wants to filter down by using different values in the drop down, causes the report to generate automatically and all the dropdowns are reset to default.
Have you had this problem before? Anyone can advise me how to solve this issue?

In my simplist scenario, I'm transactionally replicating a single table from database A to database B and then from database B to database C. All databases are on the same XP server (in this simplist version of the problem). This is SQL 2005 RTM. Publication A to B replicates fine. Publication B to C can't even get the snapshot to work because I get the error:

I have a simple example script where I've renamed real names to fake names, that is exactly what I run to simulate the problem. Obviously the script is wrong, but where? I used the wizard to create the whole script (I know that is my first mistake ;-) ). After I start the snapshot jobs, I get the error above.
I presume that the sp_addarticle option @pre_creation_cmd = N'drop' is part of the problem. I don't have row filters. Also, I want to be able to replicate schema modifications when necessary (like add a column or drop a column)
Perhaps the sp_addpublication @repl_freq = N'continuous' option in the AtoB publication prevents the BtoC publication from ever getting a chance to do anything, if it never lets go of the table.
If it helps, here is my script with hopefully helpfully renamed objects. My real world scenario has many articles, but this is a simple version - 2 publications each having 1 article (the same table).

Transact SQL :: Compiler Error Of Unable To Drop Table
May 29, 2015I have a procedure where an id is passed into the procedure. It will either be a numeric value or it will be the word "ALL." All that is taking place is a select statement for the specified user id. However, if All is passed in then I 1st need to get a list of all possible user id's and produce the results for all of the associated user ids. This is my syntax, but it keeps producing a compile error of:

Cannot drop the table '#tbl_temp', because it does not exist or you do not have permission.And I placed a comment above the line that is throwing this error.

SQL Server 2012 :: How To Drop And Create Synonym Without Client Error
Apr 23, 2015A heavily-selected database will be in an inconsistent state for several hours during a batch process. For that time, a database snapshot is created and accessed instead. To allow constant client read access to the database, a database that only contains synonyms exists. Those synonyms point to the main database except during the batch process, at which time they point to the database snapshot.
To switch the synonyms, each synonym is dropped and then created pointing to the database snapshot (after its creation, of course). The drop/create occurs inside a transaction. Roughly, the SQL looks like this:

CREATE SYNONYM [dbo].[some_proc] FOR [snapshot_db].[dbo].[some_proc];

When the batch update is completed, the process is reversed with "snapshot_db" replaced with "regular_db". The SQL snippet above is dynamic SQL. What I've pasted is the dynamic SQL that is executed as a single batch.
While this switch is happening, clients are accessing the procedures through the synonyms, potentially at a high request rate. Testing reveals that clients can get the error:

Description=[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.some_proc'.
This error only occurs once. If the same SPID retries its request and the transaction has not completed (for testing, a delay was added), then it blocks until the transaction completes.
Any way to prevent it besides a client-side retry?

May 4, 2015Since a couple days, we are getting this message the errorlog of one of our SQL2012 server
LogEntry: Error [36, 17, 145] occurred while attempting to drop allocation unit ID 451879652360192 belonging to worktable with partition ID 451879652360192.
(version Microsoft SQL Server 2012 - 11.0.5058.0 (X64))
I am wondering what is the best way trying to troubleshoot this issues? I do not know from which of out database this is coming.

Jul 27, 2005Been looking through the forums for a solution to this problem.I already tried granting access through statements such as:exec sp_grantloginaccess N1'machineNameASPNET'But they don't seem to work.. i vaguely remember seeing somewhere a DOS command line statement that grants access to the ASPNET_WP and that fixed my problem before on another computer.. but this is a new computer and i forgot to write down the command.Can anyone help explain and propose a solution to my problem. Xp_cmdshell Error In 6.5 For Non SA Login - Error 1326
Mar 17, 2000I have a stored proc that attempts to execute xp_cmdshell using a login other than 'sa'. The permissions have been given to the login to execute xp_cmdshell and the stored procedure executes perfectly within the query analyzer in EM. However, when attempting to execute the same stored proc in ISQL_W under a login with permissions for everything as dbo (other than Master) I get error 1326 for LogonUser on line 359. This is with the "xp_cmdshell - Use SQLExecutiveCmdExec Account for Non SAs" disabled (as described as a "workaround" on the technet). Microsoft acknowledged this as being a 'bug' to 'fix' and put a 'fix' in Service Pack 5a. The server that is experiencing this problem is running service pack 5. Is there any difference between the service packs and if so, will installing service pack 5a help me? And if not, what can be done to alleviate this problem?

i'm using the Enterpirse library logger to write logs into a database.
When choosing connection string i choose the database i want in the "connection properties" dialog box and
push 'Test connection' button.
everything goes well.
then i open the SQL Server Management studio express and connect to the databse to check some things,
from that point on , when i push the 'Test Connection' button in the Enterprise library i get the error:
"cannot open user default database. Login failed. login failed for user My'server/MyuserName'"
even when i close the sql server manager , it is still stuck - the connection test doesn't work anymore....
it only work when i restart the computer.
why ?
