Duplicate Query Results

May 15, 2001

I have duplicate results in from my query. I am using the distinct clause but this does not seem to be working. In the example below, I do not want the 79.15 to repeat multiple times eventhough the first column has all distinct values. I am using distinct in my select but this is not stopping the duplicates on the second row. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Looping Query Results - Show All Duplicate Records

Feb 4, 2015

Query should only return less than 3000 records but its returning over 4M. It needs to show all duplicates records.... All the info are on the same table VENDFIl, so I used a self join but it seems to be looping..

SELECT A.FEDTID, B.VENDOR, C.NPI_NUMBER
FROM VENDFIL A, VENDFIL B, VENDFIL C
GROUP BY A.FEDTID, B.VENDOR

Transact SQL :: Transform Duplicate Rows From Query Results To One Row

Jun 16, 2015

I have three tables, Accounts, AccountCustomer and Customers, and the data-relationshiop between are defined according to the image below:

I created also a query (the sql-query below), displaying the customers for every account that is on the table "Accounts", and I got the results, as we can see in the image below:

SELECT A.AccountID,
c.CustomerNo,
c.Surname,
c.Name,
c.TaxNum
FROM Accounts A
left join AccountCustomer ac on ac.AccountID = A.AccountID
left join Customers c on c.CustomerNo = ac.CustomerNo
order by A.AccountID;

As we understand, an "AccountID" have multiple customers, so I want to transform tha multiple results to one row, grouping by AccountID (one account belongs to one or many Customers), like the image below:

I tried to use row_number()-expression to get this, but I didn't make it. So my question is, how can I alter my sql-query to get the final result like image above?

Duplicate Results

Mar 22, 2007

Hello,

I'm new to SQL and tried to develop a simple query on multiple tables of a database. The query works but returns duplicate records even though there aren't duplicate records in the database.

Here is the script:

SELECT LelyDevice.iAddress, LelyDeviceVisit.tEndVisitDateTime, LelyCow.dBirthDate, LelyCow.iUserNumber, LelyAstronautVisit.lRefusal,
LelyAstronautVisit.lFailedMilking, LelyMilkVisitData.nMilkYield, LelyLactationProduction.dCalvingDate
FROM LelyDevice INNER JOIN LelyDeviceVisit ON LelyDevice.PK_LelyDevice = LelyDeviceVisit.FK_LelyDevice
INNER JOIN LelyCow ON LelyDeviceVisit.FK_LelyCow = LelyCow.PK_LelyCow
INNER JOIN LelyAstronautVisit ON LelyDeviceVisit.PK_LelyDeviceVisit = LelyAstronautVisit.FK_LelyDeviceVisit
INNER JOIN LelyMilkVisitData ON LelyDeviceVisit.PK_LelyDeviceVisit = LelyMilkVisitData.FK_LelyDeviceVisit
INNER JOIN LelyLactationProduction ON LelyCow.PK_LelyCow = LelyLactationProduction.FK_LelyCow

WHERE LelyDeviceVisit.tEndVisitDateTime BETWEEN '2006-07-29 03:20:00.000' AND '2006-08-03 08:58:59.000' AND LelyAstronautVisit.lFailedMilking = 1
ORDER BY LelyDeviceVisit.tEndVisitDateTime DESC

and here is the result:

Removing Duplicate Results With One Column Different?

Aug 9, 2012

I am trying to get people from my table that have closed accounts. However, in my table many people have more than one account. They will have multiple closed accounts and some active accounts. I need to get the people with only closed accounts.

Values in the table

Code:
name surname status Closed Number
----------- --------- ----------- ------------- ----------------------------
Jeff Burns closed 2012/01/01 142
Tina Drewmor closed 2008/05/20 546
Jeff Burns active 1900/01/01 354
Kyle Higgin active 1900/01/01 851
Tina Drewmor closed 2009/04/14 154

The query I am using so far is:

Code:
select
d.name,
d.surname,
s.status,
s.closed,
s.number
from
d d inner join s s on d.number = s.number
where
s.status = 'closed'

What I need to see in the results

Code:
name surname status Closed Number
----------- --------- ----------- ------------ -----------------------------
Tina Drewmor closed 2008/05/20 546
Tina Drewmor closed 2009/04/14 154

Duplicate Results In 2 Columns But Reversed

Feb 17, 2004

I have to write a query which extracts everyone from a table who has the same surname and forenames as someone else but different id's.

The query should have a surname column, a forenames column, and two id columns (from the person column of the table).

I need to avoid duplicates i.e. the first table id should only be returned in the first id column and not in the second - which is what i am getting at the mo.

This is what i have done

select first.surname, first.forenames, first.person, second.person
from shared.people first, shared.people second
where first.surname= second.surname
and first.forenames = second.forenames
and not first.person = second.person
order by first.surname, first.forenames

and i get results like this

Porter Sarah Victoria 9518823 9869770
Porter Sarah Victoria 9869770 9518823 - i.e. duplicates

cheers

Need To Display Results Of A Query, Then Use A Drop Down List To Filter The Results.

Feb 12, 2008

Hello. I currently have a website that has a table on one webpage. When a record is clicked, the primary key of that record is transfered in the query string to another page and fed into an sql statement. In this case its selecting a project on the first page, and displaying all the scripts for that project on another page. I also have an additional dropdownlist on the second page that i use to filter the scripts by an attribute called 'testdomain'. At present this works to an extent. When i click a project, i am navigated to the scripts page which is empty except for the dropdownlist. i then select a 'testdomain' from the dropdownlist and the page populates with scripts (formview) for the particular test domain. what i would like is for all the scripts to be displayed using the formview in the first instance when the user arrives at the second page. from there, they can then filter the scripts using the dropdownlist.
My current SQL statement is as follows.
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [TestScript] WHERE (([ProjectID] = @ProjectID) AND ([TestDomain] = @TestDomain))"
So what is happening is when testdomain = a null value, it does not select any scripts. Is there a way i can achieve the behaivour of the page as i outlined above? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
James.

Dynamiclly Remove Duplicate Rows From Results Table Based On Column Data?

Nov 30, 2007

I have a results table that was created from many different sources in SSIS. I have done calculations and created derived columns in it. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to remove duplicate rows from this table without first writing it to a temp sql table and then parsing through it to remove them.

each row has a like key in a column - I would like to remove like rows keeping specific columns in the resulting row based on the data in this key field.

Ideas?
Thanks,
Ad.

Query Fails With Invalid Column Name But Succeed As Sub-query With Unexpected Results

Sep 22, 2015

-- The 3rd query uses an incorrect column name in a sub-query and succeeds but rows are incorrectly qualified. This is very DANGEROUS!!!
-- The issue exists is in 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014 and is "By Design"

set nocount on
go
if object_id('tempdb.dbo.#t1') IS NOT NULL drop table #t1
if object_id('tempdb.dbo

[code]....

This succeeds when the invalid column name is a valid column name in the outer query. So in this situation the sub-query would fail when run by itself but succeed with an incorrectly applied filter when run as a sub-query. The danger here is that if a SQL Server user runs DML in a production database with such a sub-query which then the results are likely not the expected results with potentially unintended actions applied against the data. how many SQL Server users have had incorrectly applied DML or incorrect query results and don't even know it....?

Transact SQL :: Use Query Results As Select Criteria For Another Query

Jul 10, 2015

I have a query that performs a comparison between 2 different databases and returns the results of the comparison. It returns 2 columns. The 1st column is the value of the object being compared, and the 2nd column is a number representing any discrepancies. What I would like to do is use the results from this 1st query in the where clause of another separate query so that this 2nd query will only run for any primary values from the 1st query where a secondary value in the 1st query is not equal to zero.I was thinking of using an "IN" function in the 2nd query to pull data from the 1st column in the 1st query where the 2nd column in the 1st query != 0, but I'm having trouble ironing out the correct syntax, and conceptualizing this optimally.

While I would prefer to only return values from the 1st query where the comparison value != 0 in order to have a concise list to work with, I am having difficulty in that the comparison value is a mathematical calculation of 2 different tables in 2 different databases, and so far I've been forced to include it in the select criteria because the where clause does not accept it.Also, I am not a DBA by trade. I am a system administrator writing SQL code for reporting data from an application I support.

FULL JOIN Threads th ON t.topicid=th.topicid
GROUP BY t.topicid,f.forumid,t.name,th.author,th.lastpostdate
ORDER BY t.topicid ASC,th.lastpostdate DESC
Whose result set is as below:-

Need To Get Rid Of Duplicate Rows In A Query

Dec 12, 2007

Hello I am fairly new to SQL and having spent much time over the manual I decided to ask for help. So here's my deal.

I've got a query with 5 tables that I join together

Code:

SELECT * FROM Map
INNER JOIN ThreatCategory
INNER JOIN Threat ON
ThreatCategory.threatCategoryID = Threat.threatCategoryID
INNER JOIN Threat_Map
ON Threat.threatID = Threat_Map.threatID
ON Map.mapID = Threat_Map.mapID
LEFT JOIN person on map.contentPersonID = person.personID
WHERE (((DATEDIFF(dd, Map.dataAcquisitionDate, GETDATE()) > map.goodForDays) and (map.expired = '1'))
or (map.expired = '3'))

The problem is the table Threat_Map is a many to many mapping between the Map table and the Threat table. Eg) A map can have more than one threat and a threat can have more than one map. I know this is not the best way to have a database set up but its out of my hands as to changing the database. What I need help with is this.

My application checks as to whether a certain field in the Map table is expired or out of date (as in the query). If so it gets some required information from the other tables using those joins. However, I don't want to get information for the same Map.mapID that's expired twice. I don't really care which ThreatID I get from the Threat_Map table I just need to get one of them to meet the objects standards. However, so far this seemingly simple task has eluded me. I'd like to do this in SQL. Is there perhaps a way to do this. If not I guess I'll just take care of it in the application.

Query To Merge Duplicate Records

Jun 6, 2007

Hello,
I have the following Query:
1    declare @StartDate char(8)2    declare @EndDate char(8)3    set @StartDate = '20070601'4    set @EndDate = '20070630'5    SELECT Initials, [Position],  DATEDIFF(mi,[TimeOn],[TimeOff]) AS ProTime6    FROM LogTable WHERE 7    [TimeOn] BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate AND8    [TimeOff] BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate9    ORDER BY [Position],[Initials] ASC
The query returns the following data:
Position                                           Initials ProTime     -------------------------------------------------- -------- ----------- ACAD                                               JJ       127         ACAD                                               JJ       62          ACAD                                               KK       230         ACAD                                               KK       83          ACAD                                               KK       127         ACAD                                               TD       122         ACAD                                               TJ       127

What I'm having trouble with is the fact that I need to return a results that has the totals for each set of initials for each position.  For Example, the final output that I'm looking to get is the following:
Postition                       Initials                 ProTime
ACAD                           JJ                       189ACAD                          KK                       440ACAD                          TD                        122ACAD                          TJ                         127
 Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Optimizing This Duplicate Finding Query

Sep 11, 2005

Hi everyone!

I am parsing a database structed like the following for duplicates.

Code:

keywordnegativeexactbroadphrase
Alpha0.120.36
Alpha0.120.37
Alpha0.120.37
Alpha0.220.37
Alpha0.120.37
Alpha0.120.37
Alpha0.120.37

Vamprie0.120.1315
Wilco0.210.21
X-Ray00.220
Yeti020.20
Zebra1310

The duplicates that this thread relates to are the kind with duplicate "keyword" entries AND dissimilar field entries; i.e. :

Code:

keyword negative exact broad Phrase
Polo 0 122 4
Polo 0 122 5

I've come up with an SQL query that seems to return all of these duplicates (save one of each type- the 'real', unique entry). However I think I made the query very inefficient. My SQL is very bad; this query will be running over tens of thousands of rows, so if it can be at all optimized I would greatly appreciate your help!

What I have so far is:

Code:

string query1 = "SELECT * FROM TableName" +
" WHERE EXISTS (SELECT NULL FROM TableName" + " b" +
" WHERE b.[keyword]= " + "TableName"+ ".[keyword]" +
" AND b.[negative]<> " + "TableName"+ ".[negative]" +
" ORb.[keyword]= " + "TableName"+ ".[keyword]" +
" ANDb.[exact]<> " + "TableName"+ ".[exact]" +
" ORb.[keyword] = " + "TableName"+ ".[keyword]" +
" ANDb.[broad]<> " + "TableName"+ ".[broad]" +
" ORb.[keyword]= " +"TableName"+ ".[keyword]" +
" ANDb.[phrase]<> "+"TableName"+ ".[phrase]" +
" GROUP BY b.[keyword], b.[broad], b.[exact]" +
" HAVING Count(b.[keyword]) BETWEEN 2 AND 50000)" ;

the algoritm seems to check every column of every row in order to determine a duplicate. Seems straightforward to me, but alas slow...

Is there a better/faster way I can do this? Thanks for you help!

Query Returning Duplicate Rows

Oct 6, 2004

I'm trying to write a query that will return rows within a specified range and print to a Crystal Report. When I run the query, it produces 2 row of everything. I would use the SELECT DISTINCT clause, but Crystal Reports will not let me edit the Select statement. But I can edit the FROM, WHERE and ORDER BY clauses. I think the problem is in my INNER JOINS but I'm having a problem figuring it out. Can someone please guide me in the right direction.

SELECT
DrawingVouchers."PlayerID",
DrawingVoucherNumbers."PromoID", DrawingVoucherNumbers."VoucherNumber", DrawingVoucherNumbers."IssueDate", DrawingVoucherNumbers."UserID",
CDS_PLAYER."LastName", CDS_PLAYER."FirstName",
CDS_ACCOUNT."Address1A", CDS_ACCOUNT."City1", CDS_ACCOUNT."State1", CDS_ACCOUNT."Zip1"
FROM
{ oj (("WinOasis"."dbo"."DrawingVouchers" DrawingVouchers INNER JOIN "WinOasis"."dbo"."DrawingVoucherNumbers" DrawingVoucherNumbers ON
DrawingVouchers."PlayerID" = DrawingVoucherNumbers."PlayerID")
INNER JOIN "WinOasis"."dbo"."CDS_PLAYER" CDS_PLAYER ON
DrawingVoucherNumbers."PlayerID" = CDS_PLAYER."Player_ID")
INNER JOIN "WinOasis"."dbo"."CDS_ACCOUNT" CDS_ACCOUNT ON
CDS_PLAYER."Player_ID" = CDS_ACCOUNT."Primary_ID"}
WHERE
DrawingVoucherNumbers."VoucherNumber" >= 37806 AND
DrawingVoucherNumbers."VoucherNumber" <= 37813

How Can I Remove Duplicate Entries In A Sql Query?

Mar 2, 2006

I have a database being populated by hits to a program on a server. The problem is each client connection may require a few hits in a 1-2second time frame. This is resulting in multiple database entries -all exactly the same, except the event_id field, which isauto-numbered.I need a way to query the record w/out duplicates. That is, anyrecords exactly the same except event_id should only return one record. Is this possible??Thank you,Barry

Group By Query To Find Duplicate Field Value

Jul 23, 2001

Hello,

Not sure how to do this. I think I need to use a Group By query. I have a "Products" table with the following fields:

Program#
Number
UPC
Item
Item#
Size
Dept

Everything is specific to the Program#. In other words, for every instance of a Program# there can be more than one Product, which is specified by the "Number" field. So: SELECT * FROM Product WHERE [Program#] = '12345' should return this:

12345 | 1 | 000012345678 | Cookies | 98765 | 12ct | Retail |
12345 | 2 | 000012345678 | Cake | 98765 | 12ct | Retail |
12345 | 3 | 000012345678 | Ice Cream | 98765 | 12ct | Retail |

However, some recordsets are returning like this:

12345 | 1 | 000012345678 | Cookies | 98765 | 12ct | Retail
12345 | 1 | 000012345678 | Cake | 98765 | 12ct | Retail
12345 | 2 | 000012345678 | Ice Cream | 98765 | 12ct | Retail

In which case I have to fix them (the "Number" field) with an update query sp they are numbered sequentially. Luckily, this doesn't happen very often.

Can someone help me with a query that will return only those records with duplicate values in the "Number" field? I am not sure how to construct this query which I will use as a stored procedure.

TIA,
